Emmett's Public House

If you like Irish food this a great option. The walleye bites and the dill pickles app were great. The big mick was an excellent choice. The max & cheese was really good with the peppers and onions in it. I got the bacon too which really made it pop. The fish and chips are a solid choice. Nice big chunks of cod. The hunters chicken was good, but note the gnocchi had a curry sauce on it. Lots of other options too, like nice salads. Good tap list and lots of good cocktails. The Pen Pal was very tasty. Also there are great N/A options with non-alc mocktails and wines, etc The staff was very good, and the server was generally good, though we had a bit of a wait (longer than usual) between our apps and the main dishes. Just a tad longer than expected is all. Solid option for Irish fare!

Quick and friendly service. My son LOVED his burger. Their take on a Big Mac. I got the fish and chips. They were decent, not great. Any part of the breading that touched the plate was soggy before I was able to eat it. We all enjoyed the malted fries. Would come back for burgers for sure.

This place is alright, but it isn't a restaurant I think I need to come to again. Maybe it is fabulous if you get drinks, but we didn't. Service was good, seating was fast. Outdoor patio is fun, but loud. The cheesecurds were so dark it made me wonder when the last time the oil has been changed - or maybe that is just how they are. They came out hot. Not sure why they have pretzel in name- seemed to be basic breading. Flavor was ok. Burger was underwhelming, a bit dry, with a distinct taste. Either that distinct taste is a purposeful attempt at imparting a grilled flavor, or it was cooked on a surface that hasn't been cleaned for quite some time. Food seemed to be delivered promptly and fries were hot. Overall, food didn't suit my preferences, especially for the price.

Solid dining experience. Didn't feel much like an "Irish Pub" though. Space is very large and could really take on any theme it wanted with little difficulty. Not much interaction with staff although our hostess was an absolute rock star when we were late for our reservation. Our server was also good, but the whole experience lacked that personal, familial feel you look for in a traditional Irish Pub. That being said, food was good, drinks were very well put together, although a deeper whiskey list could help with the Pub vibes. You won't be disappointed visiting, but you won't be wowed either.

This BLT was delicious. I was skeptical at first but they really knocked it out of the park. The wait staff was friendly and the vibes were great. I'll have to try this again.

Went there for dinner last night. Everything was great- attentive host and service, great food, super diligent about checking food allergy concerns…. The restaurant was pretty full the whole time as well and everyone around us seems to be having a good experience as well.

The food was alright - the reason I give 3 is we waited for a little over an hour for some just alright food on a Friday where the restaurant wasn't even that packed. It couldve just been an off day as well. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the servers/hosts were super nice. I'll be back again to try some more of the stuff they offer as it is a fun spot and I want to like it more.

Irish pub with a contemporary vibe. The fish and chips are good. Maybe pass on the egg rolls. The Whisky Wednesday tasting menu was a good value. I also liked the authenticity of the place. Emmett was a real person whose picture is on the wall. I’ll probably come again.

Food is fabulous. Staff is great. I had a cocktail and Still Sticker Gyoza. Delicious can't wait to go back to try many more of their menu items.

Went back after they reopened, since I saw that they have an "Irish Breakfast" on weekends. I love a good fry-up, and can only think of two other places in town that have them (Eagan Arms and Morrissey's on Lake Street). Like other stuff on their menu, it's their own spin on the dish. No rashers (streaky bacon instead), no black or white pudding, no grilled mushrooms or tomatoes. The beans were not Heinz, though they were tasty. Lotsa flavor. Bangers were the same. The one standout was the croquettes. A regular fry-up will have potato cakes, but these were colcannon cakes! Delicious! I don't think I'll go back for food, but the new spot is very comfortable and attractive, and would make a great stop for happy hour!

A little under-whelming menu selection. I had omelette with side of beans, wife had one of the Benedict selections. Server / service was great. Overall venue was ok - everything is shiny and new. Not a bad experience by any means - just not an unforgettably amazing experience to warrant returning anytime soon.

Great food, both times I went it was a nice quiet spot with great food and fabulous service.

So I went there yesterday about 430 seated immediately and had a couple drinks in hand within about two minutes.Staff was very friendly and the Scottish egg was out of this world in Creamy white sauce and thanks for the toast to dunk in the sauce.The drinks where good too.Nice decor and quiet there which I like over load bars.Great neighborhood bar with specials too.

I get that St. Patrick's Day can be busy but if you don't turn off Doordash, you should honor the orders you get. I am a more regular customer than the people that just come for the holiday. Cancelling an order at the time it is due to be delivered is just rude.

Not a huge selection on the menu. Cocktails were good. Location was on Grand Ave which is always hopping.

Disappointed in the ambiance at the newly renovated Emmett's Public House. Gone is the cozy Irish Pub atmosphere- more like a bright cafeteria. Food was good but pricey, along with a $3.00 charge for mustard!

If you know anything about traditional Irish pubs, they're usually cozy, compartmental, with snugs throughout. Emmett's is no different, but not ideal for following current COVID regulations. So while Emmett's is unable to seat guests inside, they've made the menu available in tandem with Dixies on their expanded patio. I can't ever resist one of my favorite menu items; Beer Pretzel Cheese Curds-- Wisconsin Cheese Curds, Beer Battered & Hand Rolled in Pretzels, Served with Ale Honey Mustard. What makes them Irish you ask?...er, well there's beer in the batter and ale in the dipping sauce...yeah we'll go with that! Regardless they're in my top 5 curds in the twin cities! Sláinte!

It's a decent little Irish pub. Nice irish pub atmosphere, and the shepherd's pie I had were very good. The beer selection is fairly limited, to a few well known Irish beers (Guinness, Harp, Smithwick) and a couple of others. The barman wasn't very talkative or personable, even as the place was pretty empty. Service was a tad slow, even when the place was mostly empty. Also, the cost of a pint of tap beer was pretty dang high, even for something common like Harp. It's apparently a part of the cajun restaurant next door, as they share the same menu. Overall, it was decent and okay, not particularly special or exceptional.

Came by for dinner and drinks on a Friday night. We were able to sit at the bar and loved being able to talk to our bar tender. Just like everywhere else these days, Emmets was short staffed and people were working really hard. But somehow, they still made time to chat with people. The staff worked together to get orders in, food and drinks out, and collect the tabs. I really appreciated seeing the teamwork. Our bartender helped Lead us in the right direction for dinner. We decided on the blackened cat fish, Brussels sprouts, and corn bread. The cat fish can either come blackened or deep friend - the bar tender recommended blackened and we absolutely loved our meal! I think if we had gone deep fried, a lot of the flavor of the catfish would've gotten lost. Overall our dinner was good and filling. We had a great date night here and will be back for more! There is a parking lot in front along with street parking - just pay attention to signs!

Went to "Emmett's" last night, actually Dixie's, but had food from Emmetts menu. EXCELLENT service, WONDERFUL food! Comfortable atmosphere, reasonable pricing, overall best experience I have had in ages. Will be going back often!

This place is great for a happy hour. They have good drink deals and decent deals on food. Their fries are super crispy and delicious (order them). Also their cheese curds are uniquely battered and homemade. I'd come here again for their happy hour and probably a more casual dinner. Bonus: they have a parking lot which is convenient for being on Grand Ave. They share with other restaurants though, but still nice.

A comprehensive selection of Irish Whiskey to choose from. Obvious Irish beer on tap. Friendly staff, and a fireplace smell coming from somewhere (connected to the Dixie Cafe, so might have some bbq going on there). I had the Claddagh Fries and the portion is large enough to split. Full of flavor and probably not great for your arteries, but perfect for Saturday lunch after a late Friday night.

Didn't actually eat here. Walked in and it was quite busy. WaiteD for a table, no where to sit to wait, just stood in the entry-way being gawked at by the customers. There was a table for eight open (2-tables pushed together) but they would not seat our family of four because there was a larger group ahead of us (nowhere to be seen). Stood there for awhile. No one bussed the table or sat any larger party. Went to find a bathroom and saw the Dixies was connected to them. Asked for a table there and went and sat dowN. The waiter from Emmets asked us to come back and we said our daughter would likely prefer the food here. She said the children's menus are the same/same kitchen. Hmm. Odd experience, perhaps we'll try again, perhaps not. Seemed the wait staff didn't want us until we were going to give our tip to someone else.

A cozy Irish pub that shares space with Dixie's and Saji-Ya. Recently ate here with several others before heading over to Stogie's for cigars. For starters, we shared orders of Claddagh fries (Irish poutine?), Scotch eggs (good but not of the same caliber as those served at the Red Cow) and Bear Pretzel cheese curds. All very filling and a relative bargain at happy hour prices. For entrees, two of us ordered the fish & chips. The fish was moist and flaky, The batter light and crunchy. Add a few dashes of malt vinegar and this was a quite good rendition of this traditional fare (if not quite at the same level as Merlin's Rest or George and the Dragon). Rounding out our orders were a smallish but tasty and filling Shepherd's Pie, a 695 Brick Pressed Sandwich ( Braised Corned Beef, Sauerkraut & Pepperoncini Blend, Havarti Cheese, Sriracha 1000 Island & Housemade Ale Mustard, on Pressed French Bread) that was deemed excellent, and a generously portioned Irish Farmer salad. Service was prompt and cordial. Fair amount of free parking in an adjacent lot.

This is my favorite bar in the neighborhood right now, mostly because they have my favorite local beer on tap, Fulton Child of the Vine. Not many St Paul restaurants have it. The food is very good for bar food. It's the same kitchen as Dixie's, very good chef and owners. The bartenders are professional and friendly but it's not really a neighborhood bar kind of place. Dixie's is more of that potential. I like the owner/manager John. He's run Dixie's for decades and really cares about the food, establishment and customers. It's always been a good place to eat out and not too loud. I don't care much for sports bars but Dixie's makes up for it with the food. And Emmett's is not a sports bar which brings me to the second best thing about it: the bar TV is always on the movie channel, AMC I think, with closed captioning! So if you're alone and nobody's talking to you, you can watch an old movie drink really good beer and eat claugha fries or some such thing, which is the only food that the Irish ever "invented" worth eating (poutine stolen from Canadians). And if you're a big drinker they have some pretty popular specials with whiskey and Guinness. The combination Was actually invented by the Irish.

$4.50 pints every day from 3pm to 6pm, and one of the friendliest bartenders I've ever met, will keep me coming back. I've been to this quaint Irish-themed pub several times, and, until this visit, had always sat at a table. I will sit at the bar from now on because the bartenders here are great. Especially, Mickey, the bartender who was working Saturday when my family and I ducked in to escape a thunderstorm before venturing out to Grand Old Days (6/5/16). First, his name is Mickey. Awesome! He was friendly, efficient, offered beer suggestions, and even told a corny joke about why there are only 239 beans in Irish stew. (You'll have to visit Emmett's for the punch line). I've only tried the appetizers so far, but understand that the burger is something that I have to try. For a low-key, attractive, quiet place to visit with friends and drink cold beer and Irish whiskey, Emmett's is ideal. I would recommend the Scotch Eggs (their version: deep fried soft boiled eggs, the yolk was still slightly runny, wrapped in sausage with a flour and break crumb coating), Claddagh Fries (with creamy gravy, chunks of beef and white cheddar cheese curds), and the Corned Beef Won Tons.

The 695 sandwich is to die for. Add the accompanying malt fries and a black & tan, and it may become your "go to." It certainly has become mine. The service was great, and it's quiet enough to have a normal voice conversation. It's become our get together place.

Great spot! Good atmosphere, tolerable noise level so you can actually have a conversation. Fantastic whisky selection! Four of us ate, four of us left full and happy with our choices! Service ok, not overbearing but not inattentive. Scotch eggs- in point- yolk still a little runny, egg crispy outside, nice cream sauce. Bangers and croquettes made interesting with the spice blackberry sauce. Amazing corned beef- loads of it and none of it fatty and gross. Potato cakes crispy outside and soft inside. Side note- if you have any of those cheap ass friends that try to pay less than their share, they split the bill by seat without even asking (also have the full table option to pay).

I would only go here for atmosphere and beer and perhaps fries. Food was extremely disappointing. Got freezer burnt fish sent it back and they did not charge but it turned me off the food. They also did not really give me a hard time about sending it back but the manager did not even come over or seem to care and the server did not remove it right away or say much either it was awkward The bangers are small and the size of a brown m serve sausage so I don't think you will get very full from that meal. The Clauddah fries were really gross also

Went to Emmetts Public House for St. Paddy's Day here in Minnesota and wasnt disappointed. The beer pretzel cheese curds were so delicious. In honor of St. Pats I had some fantastic corned beef and cabbage. Wait staff was pleasant.

This is a great small pub that reminds me of Scotland. The Irish music, the whiskey, the beer and the food. We had scotch eggs and fish and chips. The scotch eggs were soft boil with the right amount of creamy middle. The cheese sauce was so silky and rich and the bacon bits cuz why not?!?! The batter on the fish was light and flacky the fish clean and fresh. The fries were malty and delicious. I splashed everything with malt vinegar and ate most of it. The portion was huge for two pieces of fish and fries.

This was a fun place to stop by while in St. Paul. Their menu is on the smaller side but they have some really savory options. We tried the Mac and Cheese with bangers and the 695 Brick Pressed Sandwich. Both were SO good! Honestly, I haven't been to a good Irish-style place in a while so it exceeded my expectations. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating - checked up on us at the just the right times. They also have good drink options and looks like a good happy hour - we had just missed it!

My fiancé and I finally decided to check this place out an we were blown away. They were not too busy for 7pm on a saturday which was pretty surprising. Quick service with some great recommendations including to try the Malbec. The Cork County Old Fashioned was a DAMN good old fashioned for a self professed old fashioned snob. The atmosphere is relaxing with the music not being to loud to enjoy dinner conversation. The curried beer & whiskey mussels have some great heat and are a deal for how much you get. And the Claddagh Fries... Oh man so tasty. Topped off with a super delicious dessert. Can't wait to come back.

Checked in on a Monday for Happy Hour. It was pretty quiet but service was top notch. Just after St Pats and they were out of Guinness so opted for the Lift Bridge Chestnut Brown Ale. Good choice and good option. Nice ambiance and upscale setting. Wish I lived closer.

First time here. Initial thoughts. Walked in and took a seat at the bar for lunch. Almost 2 hours after opening and the bartender said I was her first customer. Ummmm... that concerns me, but we forge ahead. The space: warm, inviting. Exactly what I would expect in an Irish pub. I love the stained glass decor and dark woods. It is a little dark inside, so plan ahead if visiting with a guest that has sight issues. Had to break out the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. Menu thoughts: here for lunch, so it is limited. Prices for entrees seem reasonable. Prices for 'extras' are high. Want to add a salad onto your meal instead of fries? $5. That's a little excessive, unless it comes out the size of a dinner salad. Soup? $7/cup or $11/ bowl. Again, seems high. Food: tasty has hell. Not sure why there was so much parsley on the fries, but I can get past that. I has the rock pressed reuben. Delicious.

A friend of mine took me to Emmett's public house slash Irish Pub today. The interior of the bar and restaurant is very high-class upscale. For the quality of the food it was medium-priced. They only use fresh ingredients to prepare their food. We started out with the corned beef and cabbage wontons. Served with sriracha Thousand Island dressing and a Jameson hot mustard on the side. They were so good I wanted to order 3 more orders. We split the salmon salad and house Burger. The salmon had a honey glaze that was delicious. The salad was great. The burger was cooked perfectly medium which is really hard to find and that was delicious also. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He kept refilling my water which I really liked. I was dehydrated and had about four glasses of water with my meal I would recommend this place to anyone who wants quality fresh food and quality service.

Great atmosphere - great service. Maybe not for a big group of people but for a group of 5 or less would recommend as a casual hang spot.

Sometimes, I wish the seating was expanded here but, I also like the intimacy of it too. The restaurant is cozy and offers sublime, solid Irish food. Good beers from far and near. Good ciders too. Best Irish poutine ever!!!

Just ate here the other day... and already looking forward to coming back. I'm a sucker for Guinness and even more for small plates that go beyond the normal offerings. The wontons were especially good. Excited to have more meals here!

Stopped by on St. Patrick's Day for the first time - was expected chaos, but was greeted by kind servers and the owner himself bartending! Beautiful, cozy space and the food was delicious with large portions. I'll be back on a snowy day for sure.

I really loved the ambiance here. Emmett's is an upscale traditional Irish pub feel with beautiful Irish themed decor. As far as food goes, we only had appetizers and cocktails. The food didn't impress us (we tried the pretzel cheese curds and fries). The cocktails were okay, but for the amount we paid, it wasn't worth it. We ordered the spiked hot cocoa and they used instant with peppermint schnapps. Overall, it was okay, but for the cost we probably won't be going back.

My friend and I had a late lunch here today. This place has great ambiance and I enjoyed the all day pub breakfast with bangers, potato pancakes, egg and toast. I felt that the food took a long time to arrive given the later lunch hour, and there weren't many diners there. Nobody came to refill my water. Our server was friendly and helpful. So,the service was a mixed bag. This place isn't cheap, so the service should be better than it was.

There's something about upscale and Irish that just don't mix well. The food and liquor prices are Summit Hill high, and the staff seemed under-enthused. Other than the name, this place is about as Irish as a Shamrock shake. When I think of an Irish pub, I envision a cozy, unpretentious and friendly atmosphere. This place feels sterile, bustling and cramped- and very little like any Irish bar I know. UPDATE: I'm bumping up my review to three stars, because I was feeling guilty. I won't put them on my regular rotation on Grand because of the hotel bar feel, but the staff treated me with decency (fools!) and it's in a good location. Dammit, when I go to an Irish pub I'm aiming to get seriously boozy, and something tells me they'd be givin me the stink-eye after my second shot.

Oh Man! I don't think I've ever had so much meat, potatoes,and gravy in one sitting... in a good way! It has the feel of an old-fashioned Irish pub and also serves authentic Irish food. I had the Claddagh Fries- imagine fries covered in gravy, beef, cheese curds, and balsamic dressing. I=If this wasn't enough, I also had an order of cheese curds! It really hit the spot on a cold cold night... I was so full, I thought I'd never be hungry again.

Emmett's is a great place at anytime of day. Yesterday four of us stopped in for a late lunch or early dinner. We all had different levels of appetite due to the time of day. All four of us left happy and well fed. The beer and liquor selection is excellent. We will all be back!!

Check out the new Irish Pub around the corner from a friend's house? Don't mind if I do..... Upon arrival last (Sunday) night, there was a 40-ish minute wait as we had neglected to call in a reservation. No worries, we chose to put our names in and amble over to Saji-Ya for some libations and to watch a little March Madness. Pat Kallemeyn is the owner there and our friends are pals with him so he stopped by for a chat. He clued us in on a fair amount of the thought process that brought Emmet's about. The brainchild of Peter Kenefick (one of the owners of Saji-Ya and Dixie's on Grand) this is a legitimate pub with a great selection of food and an atmosphere/architecture that is pure Celtic/British Isles with a dash o' St. Small. An ode to his father, the attention to detail is fairly impressive. The floors appear worn and straight out of any generic pub in Ireland. There is a booth from Gallivan's (old downtown St. Paul bar) that is very nicely restored and featured in the back of the room. Pics of the owner's dad (Emmet) and Gallivan's (including a classic scene of a Vista Cruiser planted in the door of Gallivan's that I am CERTAIN wasn't the result of one too many pints.....LOL) as well as a vintage poster of the Gallivanters folk music group. We were seated at this table and it was very old school authentic. So much so that the springs in the booth are absolutely SHOT and sunken, but that added to the authenticity of the place. Peter stopped by and lent some history of the genesis of Emmet's including it's inception at a family Christmas celebration last year through the collection of ideas via a trip to Ireland all the way to salvaging the chandeliers and booth from Gallivan's. A great story, indeed! BTW, included in the story was the promise that the booth will be fixed to a normal state at some point but some sacrifices were required as they worked diligently to open by St. Paddy's Day. The beer list was not extensive but very adequate. I didn't explore the list robustly but the porter was solid and an oatmeal stout followed that was very smooth and didn't last long in my glass. The Big Ginger (Two Gingers Irish Whiskey, ginger ale, lemon/lime) is wifey's Go-To Irish drink and she was happy with the result. Modest wine list, normal bar liquors tending toward the high-end. As to the food, don't expect every Irish dish that you can think of to be on the menu, but there is SOLID Irish fare here. The table started out with Scotch Eggs (WOW! SOOO GOOD!) and Corned Beef WonTons (Interesting concept and while I liked them, wifey was a bit "meh" on the taste). I chose the Corned Beef and Colcannon for my entree and was not disappointed. Brussel Sprouts accompanied and were very tasty. Wifey had the 695 Brick Pressed Sandwich which she liked as well. Think "fancy Reuben panini". The bite that I got was wonderful. The malted house fries that come with many entrees were fantastic. Our friends got the Beef Pot Pie and the Public House Burger. There was nothing left over! So to summarize, you won't be disappointed with trying the new pub on the block. Even if there is a wait, you can choose from any of the three bars to pass the time with your lads and lasses. Start with the charming decor, get some excellent local or Irish beer on tap and some killer mussels in whiskey sauce, then get ready for the best fries and burger you've ever had. No Blarney and I'm not even Irish! Might be back yet this weekend with the whole family.

No way to contact them on their website other than via phone. No email or contact form. Not good. Website in general needs big overhaul and more info. Menu items are universally PRICEY. Combined with small portions this place won't last.

Stopped in here with a colleague after a long day of meetings. We ordered a couple of drinks and got a food recommendation from our server. She did not steer us wrong. I ordered the corned beef and colcannon - amazing!! I would order this dish again in a heartbeat!! My colleague ordered the pub house burger - she said it too was delicious! I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!!

Super delicious! I had a Riesling and a glass of Bailey's, my man had a Guinness. Both very happy with those choices. We had the Irish Mac'n Cheese with bell peppers, onion and chicken. Delicious! we also had the fish and chips. Best fries I have had in a long time. :) Service was great. They were quite observant! Atmosphere is super cozy, pub-like, almost romantic!!

So. Delicious. Emmett's has become a favorite standby. We haven't had a single thing that has been disappointing. The fish and chips are the best I've had (and I'm a bit of a fish and chip snob) and the bisque is delicious. Also I must try is the pretzel cheese curds!!!

This is a casual place to dine or to have drinks. I liked the atmosphere, it was relaxed with dim lighting with dark wood work. There is a parking lot that Emmett's shares with three other restaurants. I went here to have some appetizers. I ordered the pretzel battered cheese curds and the scotch eggs. The cheese curds were plain, nothing special. I thought the pretzel batter took away the flavor of the cheese and that's why it was so plain. The scotch eggs were good but very rich. They were set on top of a rich white creamy buttery sauce. Overall, I liked the atmosphere but I'm not sure if I would come back here again because the food was just ok.

We stopped by mid-afternoon Saturday and Robert the bartender/server couldn't be any nicer. The food was great and the beer was even better! Love this place.

Stopped in here for brunch. The place was pretty empty and it was really dark inside, like typical pub atmosphere. The booths were beautifully built and comfortable, though. It's a great place if you like that more intimate atmosphere. Good brunch food and decent pricing with attentive service.

We stopped in for dinner and had great food and beer. Fish and chips were some of the best I've had. Waiter was great, but he was the only server there and got really busy mid-way through our meal. That was the only downside to this place, and it could've just been that night.

A buddy and I had a great St. Paddy's day week meal. I had their all-day breakfast entree, a delicious discovery. My friend started with clam corn chowder, which was like a meal in itself, but he followed with their fish & chips anyway. I had a black & tan to drink (with the correct mix of beers). Terrific pub, and Joshua made our experience better.

This is a cute small Irish joint that I really like. All of their food items that I have tried, I have really enjoyed and liked. Great place for a dinner date or a small 4-5 person get together.

Emmett's mixes tasteful Irish Pub decor with very good food. My Pub burger was pretty sloppy to eat, but it was succulent and had a huge array of flavors in it (the horseradish sauce was a delicious culprit in the sloppiness). Their malted fries were outstanding in flavor, with that hint of malt vinegar and enormously crisp without being oily or losing the potato flavor. The Irish MacCheese was rich and creamy with crunch from bacon fat fried bread crumbs, bell pepper and red onion. It had a little heat that built up after a while, which, while unexpected, was delightful (or so I'm told). Great place, superb food, great service to boot. Definitely going back again.
