Detroit media weigh in on the most exciting neighborhoods for restaurants in 2023 - Eater Detroit

"Meanwhile, a plaza along the Dennis Archer Greenway — home to Empacho, Breadless, and a Red Hook location — provides Detroiters with ample space to eat or drink after a bike ride or brisk dog walk." - Serena Maria Daniels

Where to eat and drink near the Dennis Archer Greenway on the eastside of Detroit | Eater Detroit

"Next door, Empacho specializes in traditional empanadas; owner Gonzalo Collazo told me he worked at the winery Wapisa in San Javier, Rio Negro in Patagonia so that Wine Side could carry a limited line of Argentinian wines, giving guests the option to grab a box of empanadas from his spot and a bottle of wine next door." - Serena Maria Daniels

Empacho is a new empanada shop in Detroit’s Rivertown neighborhood | Eater Detroit

"Located at 2761 Jefferson Avenue along the Dennis Archer Greenway, this pocket-sized eatery focuses on savory and sweet South American hand pies and snacks meant for takeout or leisurely visits to the Detroit Riverfront or Belle Isle. Owner Gonzalo Collazo designed a small interior with a lunch counter, limited seating, white-and-gray floor tiles, wood accents, and a curated retail area selling yerba mate and jars of chimichurri and dulce de leche; the frog logo is inspired by the South American bar game El Sapo. Empanadas are offered individually ($4.50) or by the dozen and can be paired with $1 sauces like criolla, chimichurri, or sweet-garlic mustard; fillings draw on Argentine Spanish and Italian influences (two regional beef styles, chorizo, ham-and-cheese, Neapolitan, spinach-and-mozzarella, and an American breakfast option with eggs). Smaller items include chipas, mini sweet empanadas, and alfajores filled with white meringue or dark chocolate. Emphasizing community and shared moments, the owner says the name references the satisfying fullness of a special meal, the shop is developing a wholesale program, and guests can enjoy outdoor seating along the greenway and pair bites with coffee or (soon) wine from neighboring Red Hook." - Serena Maria Daniels

Empanadas were over priced for what was given. They charge 1$ for sauce and the empanadas were over cooked. A complimentary sauce should be given for what we pay for the empanadas. It felt like I was eating a inside out pizza based on the crust. Use to empanadas being fried versus baked. The desert empanadas are smaller than expected. Clean establishment, seating areas outside and inside. Customer service was okay. Food was provided but personality was not welcoming. Suggest when providing the food to add napkins and a knife and one complimentary sauce. Ordered the salted beef, chicken , and pumpkin and cheese.

Best place ever, I have been looking for 2 years where I can find empanadas that remind me home, this was the place that did it, it was love at first bite, I have to admit I cried a little bit when I tried the empanadas, they are amazing, the people are amazing, the place is amazing. Thank you for bringing the best food from South America, love you guys.

The best empanadas I’ve had so far! We had with beef and mozzarella and tomatoes, so juicy, finest dough. Cheese snacks with the sauce were delicious too. Perfect location too, you can enjoy empanadas in a nearby small park.

Empacho stopped by my company's cafeteria last week. Full disclosure I am originally from Argentina, so I was obviously curious, and I spoke to Gonzalo who is the owner. He was super nice and gave me two free empanadas to try. I had the meat empanada, and spinach/cheese. They were both delicious and the masa was exquisite. I would highly suggest that you try Empacho Empanadas if you are looking for that true Argentine taste in Metro Detroit!

Empacho is an absolute gem for anyone craving an authentic taste of Argentina. The empanadas are simply incredible - the perfect blend of flaky pastry and flavorful fillings. I was blown away by the complexity of flavors in each bite. I especially loved the beef salta. But the culinary experience doesn't stop there. Their cold brew Yerba Mate is a refreshing and invigorating complement to the savory dishes. It's clear that Empacho is passionate about delivering an authentic and unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommend!

They were setup in Blue Cross Tower for lunch service one day and I'm glad they were. Amazing empanadas. I tried both the beef and chorizo empanadas, both were perfect!

Awesome, quick, and, ¡muy delicioso! Got a free empanada by coming in dancing! So already off to a great start. Went with my partner and even though we were together since we were both dancing, we both got free empanadas!! Now let me tell you about ‘em… Crispy flaky dough, packed with filling that was rich with flavor and love. Added a salsa which helped to give more depth to the flavor and really made the empanadas sing on the pallet. Getting two free Empanadas + economical price for each ($4-$5) = us trying and delighting in 4 different ones (all featured in photos). 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be stopping by and dancing through to enjoy when I’ve got a hankering. Can’t wait to try the rest of what they have to offer! Also they staff was very relaxed and welcoming. We also went on a Saturday afternoon round 2ish and it was calm inside. No wait for us to order and we got them within 60 seconds of paying!

Super delicious and unique. Filling but not heavy. The dipping sauce was the best. Will be back!!
