Our 17 Rules For Road Tripping | Bon Appétit

"One day, returning from a very quaint apple-picking trip with my in-laws in Newburgh, New York, I spotted a gleaming trailer off Route 9W with a tie-dye sign that proclaimed:Empanada Nirvana.“PULL OVER!” I screamed at my husband. There, surrounded by psychedelic pop art (Marilyn Monroe! Snoop Dogg! A skeleton in a patio chair!), was a man named Nelson Pantoja selling what just may be the most excellent empanadas I have ever tasted. We picked a lot of apples that day, but those perfect little half-moons—exteriors golden and crackly, insides bursting with oh-so-tender pernil, spicy komodo dragon sausage, or oozy cream cheese and guava—are all we ever talk about from that trip.—H.C." - ByThe Bon Appétit Staff

Fall Festival/ Weed Orchard I write this reviews as I'm sitting down with my three tacos orders, yuca fries and empanada order that I got from another food truck here next to them as my husband still waits over 25 mins for THREE empanadas. While he was waiting he even saw another customer come up and complain that the middle of the empanada was still frozen. Definitely think they need to come up with a better system. Wait times are SUPER long and by the time you are able to have them, the anticipation has diminished. Def not worth it.

The flavor of the filling was 10/10 and the pastry was perfectly crispy. However, the middle was ice cold and the cheese wasn't melted. Would still recommend though

Cheese Festival Experience: The staff were incompetent with a food truck. Further, the menu is not readjusted in terms of what food is or not available. When asking for a chicken empanada- as detailed on menu- they were unavailable until 25 minutes later. It's important to communicate before hand with regards to items that are Actually ready for order. Otherwise, what's the point if ordering? My sibling ordered still. However, the approximate wait times for food was overly inaccurate- from 10 minutes to 40. There's no reason to lie about a time frame. Be honest, whether you have an understanding or not. There's a level of consideration that needs to be placed in regards to proper customer service. Finally, the tostones do not come with sauce. My sibling attempted to ask for sauce, but the staff were non responsive. Overall, if this is how someone treates their customers in a food truck- I can't expect much from a restaurant. Thank you for the warning.

I’ve followed this truck to many events that I see them post on social media.. HANDS DOWN the best empanadas locally and possibly I’ve ever had!! The quality is always on point and consistent. The Staff is a pleasure to speak to when you get to the window, it’s an experience in itself, lines are sometimes a little long but that speaks to how favored this truck is by the people! Always the most popular choice at events 5/5!! ⭐️

Man! This truck’s food was a pleasant surprise! Such an original authentic flavor transporting you right to the Caribbean… I can’t say enough how nice talking to the staff is and how inviting the decoration on the truck is. Definitely need to revisit. My only negative critique is that this place doesn’t have a restaurant that we can visit everyday !!

We enjoyed the freshly deep fried empanadas and passion fruit and guanabana drinks at the Monroe Cheese Festival. It was the Best empanada at the festival. The sriracha aioli sauce made them taste even better! We will definitely look out for their food truck in other outdoor fairs and festivals!!!

Had them at Albany Med as a guest food truck. Stood in line for an hour and a half and it took another hour before the food came out. They are not prepared for large amounts of people. Do not recommend to others.

Yelp
The empanadas are delicious, there is a nice selection of different empanadas and the rice is delicious also. The staff is friendly and I see a bright future for them.
