20 Iconic Dishes That Define Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"We’re not looking to get into an international empanada debate. But not highlighting La Uchireña’s Venezuelan empanadas feels wrong. The empanadas are crispy and soft, like goose down in freshly starched pillow covers. Our favorite is the salty/sweet cazón y plátano. They’re fried to order, so you might have to wait 15 minutes. But that just gives you an excuse to buy Venezuelan snacks next door." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino

Google
I have been looking for a place that sells empanadas and this place does NOT disappoint. Almost every Mexican spot in the area has either stopped making them or doesn't offer them at all, which is so disappointing but this is now my go to spot. The food is absolutely amazing and is made fresh to order. The restaurant itself is small, quaint but very clean and the staff are phenomenal. I'm hoping they get more business as this will help them be able to open more frequently. 20 out of 10 for me, I recommend Empanadas De Mendoza!

Google
Thanks to Empanadas De Mendoza, we had the most amazing food truck at one of our biggest PTA events of the year. First of all, the empanadas are incredible, especially the spicy beef ones. The dough is flaky but still super crispy. Their food truck was the biggest hit of the event. The parents were raving about how great the food was and especially how the kids loved these empanadas. We will absolutely reserve them again next year and even for other non-PTA events. Lastly, the owner is fantastic to work with. He’s flexible and more importantly, passionate about contributing to the community.

Google
Ended up here because the AC was broken in the place we’d originally chosen for lunch. I have to say, this is one of the BEST accidental discoveries! The food here is fantastic and they make everything fresh when you order it. The chorizo is super tasty and I think I could eat the fries every day. I will definitely be returning and I recommend you try it!

Savannah Thompson

Google
Ate lunch here. The food was very authentic, the empanadas are a nice size, I purchased 3 Empanadas for $11.00 which is a pretty good deal. I probably wouldn't eat in the restaurant itself again, it was way too cold and just wasn't the atmosphere I would have liked. The food was again, tasty and authentic.

Google
Hidden little spot way back in an industrial park. Really delicious Empanadas! Also, the churi fries were seasoned really well! I saw they have multiple food trucks so if you see one of those definitely check them out too. Parking was a little difficult so I found a spot across the road in the bigger lot. Also, google maps will tell you to drive around the whole strip mall to get there, but it's on the corner of the back row. So just drive to the back, park on the left after the circle and walk the end where you see the food trucks lined up.

Google
How LUCKY we were to be able to book this amazing empanada food truck for our work event! Every single person couldn't stop raving about how delicious the food was! We are so excited to bring them back for our next event! The team was extremely professional and kind! I strongly recommend this food truck for any of your events! Can't wait to have them back!

Google
Fresh and good flavor. I enjoyed their Chimi Fries With Chimichurri sauce. If you are in the mood for some empanadas and you are in the area it’s definitely worth giving it a try.

Google
Food truck comes by our apartment complex in Del Ray, VA once every 1-2 months. Best empanadas I’ve ever had! Pineapple Chicken empanada is good, but the Spicy beef is unreal. Good quality meats and packed perfectly. Fries and dipping sauce are good too! If you see this truck, I highly recommend you stop by and get yourself an empanada!

Yelp
I love pretty much all traditions of empanadas, from Dominican Pastelitos to Colombian styles, but I'm somewhat skeptical of fusion empanadas. So I was happily surprised by the empanadas at Empanadas De Mendoza. I orders their 3 empanadas and side combo which included a traditional beef, pineapple chicken, bbq pork, and French fries. The empanadas rappers were light and crispy and the fillings were generous and juicy. The fries were nicely seasoned. My favorite was the chicken and pork. My only complaint was that the empanadas are a little small and a bit pricey, but I get it - we're in a recession. Overall it was a great meal and I look forward to trying their food again.

Yelp
Not sure if this truck has been here before but this is the first time I've seen it In our neighborhood. Actually wasn't planning on having empanadas for dinner today originally but felt that I'd have to try it based on all those good reviews. We got the 2 empanada set with fries - beef and honey BBQ pork - both were flavorful, although the more savory tasting beef ones mixed with cabbage, egg and olives were the winners. These are deep fried empanadas and the dough is light and flaky, much better than the ones I had from some of the other trucks. The very generous amount of fries sprinkled with salted herbs were also tasty as well as the two kinds of sauces, the pepper aioli was definitely worth ordering extras for. The alfajors looked enticing too - will have to try those next time.

Yelp
I was quite happy to see Empanadas de Mendoza Food truck parked outside! They were very friendly and when I asked for recommendations she said the spicy beef and honey pork were very popular but recommended the 3 cheese one- which I'll have to give a try next time as I was in a meat mood. I went with the honey pork, traditional beef, spicy beef, and spinach ricotta. The honey pork was the best and most flavorful. Spicy beef was tasty and had a bit of a kick. Spinach ricotta was good but kinda not as flavorful as the others. I surprisingly really enjoyed the traditional beef as it had olives and some egg in it which was different from the spicy beef. The fries with chimichurri and mayo sauce were very good! Crispy and addicting. Quite hard to not eat the entire thing. Overall, great fried dinner that I would do again! Next time with a cold beer!

Yelp
When I tell you that the universe is always looking out I mean it! I have been having one hell of a week and was about to go through my normal work-week what shall I make for my healthy dinner when I remembered that this food truck was coming to my apartment complex.... SCORE! I said although I've never had them, didn't even peek at them on Yelp :: GASP:: and have been spoiled by authentic empanadas growing up in the NYC area that I would still give them a shot bc I totally needed to eat some stress away and empanadas sounded like the perfect escape to do so. The line was fairly long for the truck but they had it running like a well oiled machine and the guy taking orders was super friendly which made waiting in the cold and dark totally worth it . I went with the 3 empanadas + a side so that I could totally truly give them a fair shot and see what they were working with. I opted for the Spicy Beef, Honey BBQ Pork and the 3 Cheese empanadas + the Chimichurri Fries as a side. OOOOOOOOOMMMGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! Every morsel of these empanadas, those damn fries and the side dipping sauces were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!! I literally devoured everything all by myself in under 15 minutes....and I am PROUD ! This place is legit and their flavors are magical! The spicy beef was spicy, the 3 cheeses were cheesy, the honey bbq was perfectly pulled pork like and those fries with the sauces were restaurant week worthy! I can't wait to try the other empanadas on their next go round and must say that my entire week is all better because of Empanadas De Mendoza

Yelp
The best empanadas! We first tried them at a flea market/ craft show and have been hooked since. We get a variety of flavors to share best especially like the one that's just cheese and then the spinach one. They gave more on the menu (I think) but can't get passed the empanadas as they're that good.

Yelp
We tried some empanadas from one of their food trucks that was parked at The Farm Brewery. We tried 3 flavors: honey BBQ, spicy pork, and chicken and pineapple. Honey BBQ was definitely the best and most flavorful. The chicken and pineapple was quite bland unfortunately, especially compared to the honey BBQ. The empanadas were fried well and very crispy. The fries were lightly seasoned and came with chimichurri and Mayo dipping sauces. For 3 empanadas and a side of fries, we paid $16.50+ tax. Although the food was good, it definitely felt a little pricey for what we got (perhaps the fact that it was from a food truck). The price for this on their website is advertised 13.50. The food was tasty but not filling.
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
BBQ pork is the best! The chimi fries are very good. This is a simple truck with a quality product.
google avatar

Saša J.

Yelp
Simply garbage. Why? Oily and greasy and the dough has nothing to do with traditional empanada dough rather it appears they use pre-made dough used for Asian style dumplings. If they were giving it for free we would never again buy it! Also, sute hope they never show up again at Bunnyman's Brewery for the trivia night, so we can have another real food food truck!
google avatar

Anita F.

Yelp
Ate at the food truck that was at a local brewery. The beef empanadas were not up to expectations. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Pat M.

Yelp
The empanadas were fresh and delicious. I wish they were a little bigger. The staff was engaging and provided suggestions. The place is welcoming, my kid enjoyed the photo wall. I recommend this restaurant. If in the area stop in you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Solid empanadas but nothing special. I tried the honey pork bbq (thought it was way too sweet), the traditional beef (too much sauce going on inside), and the pineapple chicken (didn't taste the pineapple flavor at all). I went because the food truck was right outside of the office but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again. My favorite thing on their menu is probably the churros. They make them fresh to order and they're very good. OH-mazingness: 7/10 OH-ffordability: 8/10 (~$11) Follow me @ohmaneats on Instagram!

Yelp
I can NOT say enough good things about Empanada De Mendoza. I invited their food truck to Priority Toyota Springfield for an Employee Appreciation Day and the employees raved about these empanadas for days after. the food is made fresh and was still served quickly. they have a Pineapple and Chicken empanada that everyone loved. I have been asked by the staff to bring them back next time we need a food truck! the Pricing was very reasonable as well. I was communicating with Gabriela via email, and she was amazing. She was very informative and quick to respond. Gabriela's husband was the cook on the truck and extremely friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend you have their food truck for your event and go visit their restaurant too. There were people that had never had empanadas before (myself included) that loved them and went back for 2nds. That says a lot! Thank you, Empanada De Mendoza, for a fabulous experience! ;-)

Yelp
Recently got to try the namesake empanadas at the Fairfax city Fall festival and I'm so glad we did. We ordered 3, 2 traditional beef and 1 spicy beef, and the chimi"churri" fries are incredible. The empanadas were crispy, packed with filling and flavor, and delicious. Would definitely get again.

Yelp
My apartment complex recently had Empanadas De Mendoza stop by for dinner time and I gotta say, their empanadas BLEW ME AWAY. At first, I was a bit apprehensive cause I've had plenty of lackluster empanadas that disappointed me in different areas such as size, filling, and crispiness. I ordered 4 empanadas and my only issue is that I wish I had bought more! I ordered 2 spicy beef and 2 honey bbq pork. The empanadas were large, about the size of my palm, and were fried to golden perfection. I noticed that they fry the empanadas upon ordering, so when you get them they are hot and fresh. It came with two sauces, an aioli and chimichurri sauce, both of which were delicious but you could 100% eat the empanadas by themselves. The spicy beef was the perfect amount of spice and very flavorful. It also contained some onion, so heads up if that's not your thing. The honey bbq pork was very saucy and the pork was shredded and tender. Out of the two flavors I bought, my favorite was the honey bbq pork. Can't wait for them to come back!

Yelp
I ordered from the location in Tyson's Galleria, I had actually ordered on Sunday but didn't see that they were closed. The order went through Tuesday afternoon and they sent a text it was ready. So, I go to pick it up and my food isn't in a box, it's being kept warm by the fryer. They put my order in a box in front of me, I got back to my office and ate lunch and it was really tasty, the texture was perfectly crisp, and it was WARM. Great product, great service.
google avatar

Yelp
We requested a food truck for an event and they were there one time ready to go. Service and communication was great. And the empanadas and churros were on point!
google avatar

Yelp
My HOA arranged for this food truck to come to our neighborhood this week. It was excellent! The online ordering was easy and there were vegetarian options, which is always nice. Although empanadas are fried, these were light and not greasy at all. The fillings were yummy and generous. We tried the traditional beef, the pineapple chicken, and the spinach-ricotta. They can also accommodate special requests (e.g., my husband doesn't like olives, so they were able to make his without). My side salad was fresh and nicely dressed. They also brought desserts. I ordered the alfajores pastries (sort of a cookie sandwich with dulce de leche filing) and churros. They were freshly made and DELICIOUS! I would recommend this food truck to any & everyone and I hope I have an opportunity to patronize them again soon.
google avatar

Yelp
The best empanadas in the area! ... and believe me, I have tried tons of places. I love the flavor of the filling and the texture of the empanada itself. My favorite one is the chicken pineapple. It's the perfect balance of savory with a hint of sweet. And the sauces that come with the empanadas are soooo good too! The last time I went I had a churro which was really good. I just wish it came with a chocolate dipping sauce. Then I woulda been in heaven. Follow em on social media and check them out. It's worth it!

Chip M.

Yelp
So dissatisfied by Empanadas truck s decision not to come out to our neighborhood. Had invited people over our house and serve empanadas for dinner. Unreliable and disappointing ,furthermore they seemed to have cancelled because they didn't meet the minimum of pre orders. It seems that the pandemic hasn't hurt their business at all . Avoid, avoid, avoid this food truck. What a disappointment, the pic said the event was cancelled, that's not what happened at all. They decided to cancel, No more empanadas.

Yelp
We were blessed to have Empanadas de Mendoza come to our community for Food Truck night! I praised Baby Jesus that we did not have to cook another boring dinner tonight and hiked our way thru snow and ice to get some warm, delicious, crunchy empanadas. We got a dozen and a few churros (because HELLO churros!!!). The beef empanadas were quite tasty and the white mayonnaise type sauce was delicious. Then I opened my mouth to eat the spicy beef empanadas AND HOLY HOTNESS! The gates of hell opened up and rained down on my taste buds and scorched my throat - ok I'm being a drama queen. Yes, they were spicy, they aren't holding back. When they say spicy, they mean it so think long and hard if you can handle some heat before you order them. But they were delicious too. Then came the sweet sweet sugary goodness that are churros. What a perfect crunch, followed by a soft pillowy dough. I am so happy that I got to try their food from the food truck and look forward to trying different dishes next time!

Yelp
Handmade empanada - no lies. Amazingly crunchy and delicious. The sauce is filled with herbs. Order traditional and spicy beef. Yum
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
Great empanadas! They made them fresh to order, and I only waited five minutes for my order to be ready. I tried the traditional beef (my favorite), bbq pork, pineapple chicken, and three cheese. All of them were piping hot and crispy on the outside. The empanadas also came with an aioli and a chimichurri sauce. Also tried the churros which were delicious.
google avatar

Amber L.

Yelp
The empanadas are phenomenal! The pineapple chicken is now an absolute favorite! (comes with an amazing sauce on the side!) The fries are also so good! They come seasoned with an chimichurri sauce (they also have plain fries) ABSOLUTE MUST TRY!! Absolutely craving these empanadas RN .

Yelp
The empanadas here are really pretty good. I've tried almost every flavor except spicy beef because I do not enjoy spicy food. The honey BBQ is a little too saucy for me, but I recommend the other flavors. My biggest gripe is with their online ordering system. I ordered empanadas to be picked up at the truck at 6:05. I arrived at 6:03 and was told it would be 5-10 minutes, which is no big deal. Maybe they were running behind. Twenty-five minutes later, after everyone else was served (including people that arrived after me), my empanadas were final ready. I'm not sure if my order was forgotten or if they were just running really behind, but I think they should get rid of the online order ahead option if they can't honor the times they offer.
google avatar

Lillian C.

Yelp
This was an incredibly mediocre choripan and empanada truck for what it costs. My main gripe was them charging an extra fifty cents for chimi on their chimi fries. I kid you not, it was less than a tsp of chimi sparingly spread on them, not enough for either aesthetics or flavor. I couldn't tell you if the chimi was even any good because I couldn't taste it. Also, mucho gross that their sauce was dishes out of an empty talenti jar. You can upcycle at home but don't use your own trash when you serve the public. The steak sandwich was no bueno either - it looks good when you get it but when you bite down you realize there's five tiny hunks of beef dabbed across a bun with cheese, tomatoes, and lettuce and it only looks impressive because their roll is hooge and it's being served in an open faced fashion. I essentially paid 16 dollars for a roll and unseasoned fries. if you've ever been to Argentina and you actually eat latin food from Latin establishments run and patronized by Latinos, this sandwich was a bummer. I think el pollo Sabroso in dc sucks and their torta Mexicana blows this out of the water. Begone, food truck.
google avatar

Grace W.

Yelp
Absolutely scrumptious empenadas-the spicy beef, and BBQ pork were my favorites. I might have eaten six at one sitting. Yes-they are that good! And Tyler and Gabriella are the nicest and coolest couple. Go try it- you will not regret it. Delicioso! Bon appetit Post update -went again tonight and had two spicy beef and the orange chicken(new) empanadas and the chim fries. Nothing like crispy fresh empanadas and hot fries. Best meal I've had in a while- and that's saying a lot since I'm quite picky and a foodie. Only regret- not getting more lol. Follow them on Instagram and FB to see when they are in your neighborhood.

Yelp
Visited this sweet spot yesterday and we loved it. Highly recommend the cheese and ham empanadas and the alfajores OMG the best in the area. Great service!!!!

Elisa B.

Yelp
Thank you so much Empanadas de Mendoza!!! Everything was so delicious. Traditional Beef empanadas : The Best!! and the churros and alfajores were incredible! Everyone at work enjoyed the food and thanks to you our employee event was a success I highly recommend Empanadas de Mendoza to everyone You guys rock!
google avatar

Rachel Z.

Yelp
This food truck seriously makes some BOMB empanadas. I rarely ever go to food trucks but am so glad I chose Empanadas de Mendoza the one time I did. Their empanadas are super hot and fresh and bursting with flavor. I went with the 3 empanada and spring slaw combo for $11 (a little pricey but food trucks usually are) and got the lemon chicken, traditional beef, and spicy beef empanadas. All 3 were amazing. LOVED the spicy beef. I will definitely be back next time they're near my office.
google avatar

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Visited this food truck at the end of the Kennedy Centers Reach Festival last Saturday. They were trying to close up and leave, likely after a long day. I had a cheese empanada. It was great. $4 for a single small empanada was a bit too costly!
google avatar

Iris C.

Yelp
Amazing as always!! Such amazing customer service and really care about their customers. Also amazing food oh my delicious. Their empanadas are to perfection the fries are the right crisp. The dipping sauces are amazing too. What an amazing truck !! We love them!!!
google avatar

Pia D.

Yelp
As a native Argentinian this food truck was as authentic as it gets, from their fresh chimichurri, to their mouth water empanadas and alfajores, we will 100% be following this food truck for more! I wish we could've taken a picture, but we inhaled our food before we could!

Chris G.

Yelp
I had the spicy beef and pulled pork from their food truck at Bunnyman Brewing. Both were excellent, but not really comparable. The spicy beef was really great, but so different from the pulled pork in every way except that both are delivered via an absolutely delicious fried shell. The pulled pork, on its own, is the best pulled pork I've had in NoVa. And it comes as a fried food. The only way to make this better is to get it from a food truck at a really good brewery just around the corner from the house... Seriously, I'd travel for the pulled pork empanada.

Diego P.

Yelp
The food is good don't get me wrong... but it's way too expensive for what it is. Not to mention empanadas in Argentina cost about 80 cents.. yes this is the United States but charging over $20 for empanadas fries and a SMALL mate is ridiculous. Felt kind of robbed eating there because I left hungry.
google avatar

Luis R.

Yelp
Best empanadas in the area! My favorite is the traditional beef. But the Honey BBQ pork is the my second choice. I always go with 4. So I randomly choose the others!

Lisa C.

Yelp
Loved having them at The Osprey's at Belmont Bay today for an event. Great food! I had the Traditional Meat & the Honey BBQ. Delicious! The Owner was wonderful and very nice. This is great for a lunch for a work party, or a cocktail hour or late night snack at a Wedding or Party!
google avatar

Dario B.

Yelp
I love Empanadas de Mendoza. They have a number of differenr flavors and I really like all of them. I cannot wait to stop by again. Very good food.
google avatar

Betty T.

Yelp
They came to my complex and i tried the traditional beef and 3 cheese empanadas with fries. My husband tried the spicy beef and pineapple chicken and they were AMAZING! I ordered online for pick up another order round of empanadas. Please try them and you will fall in love. The aioli sauce the chimi fries everything was GREAT!
google avatar

Bryam P.

Yelp
You must find these guys ! Their Empanadas have an amazing mix of flavors. Once you try one you will feel how your mouth starts melting to get some more ! And they are just not recognized for their empanadas, because they have variety of food; such as: Sandwiches, Alfajores and the most amazing churros that you have ever tried. The atmosphere is friendly and neat. You can't ask for more. If you don't know what an Empanada is, do not ask ! Just go and try one, because there are no words to describe their delicious menu!
google avatar

Sarah A.

Yelp
Their food truck was out in Tyson's today. Had the pineapple chicken empanadas with the slaw salad. The empanadas were tasty and well worth the long line!
google avatar

Glenn M.

Yelp
Am the type of person that I like my food fresh and tasty. Empanada de Mendoza are the perfect candidate. Spicy beef empanadas, pineapple chicken empanadas, choripan sub and ChoriSalad , are my favorites(basically the whole menu). You need to try their food. Follow them through Facebook and Instagram. Empanadas de Mendoza. It is all about Argentinean!!yall
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I love this food truck! The empanada crust is light and flaky and crispy. And the fillings are great. My favorite part is the pinkish mayo sauce they put on top. I don't know what's in there, but it's awesome. I particularly love the cheese, spinach and ricotta, traditional beef, and bbq pork.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Empanadas were good; the honey BBQ was particularly full of flavor. However, the portion for the price was extremely underwhelming. $10 for two empanadas and a cookie. Would recommend against the cookie, not too much flavor there. I also received no change when paying with cash. The bill was simply rounded up without confirmation that the vendors could keep the spare change.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Excellent empanadas! Great flavor and they have some of the best shells I have ever had. They are consistently flaky and fluffy. Excellent service. I know they are mainly a food truck, I just wish they had more hours at this location.
google avatar

Katherine M.

Yelp
We ordered the chicken, cheese, spinach, beef, and spicy beef from their food truck. Super good empanadas with great fillings that are cooked well in a delicately fried dough. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

jessica k.

Yelp
We got the food truck today! Oh my yum!!! Fries were perfect and the empanada soooo tasty! Our favorite was the spicy beef!
google avatar

Namrata S.

Yelp
I randomly stumbled upon this place when looking for a Jamaican food truck. I got a whole roasted chicken and 4 different empanadas for lunch. The chicken was a bit salty but the empanadas were really good. They were probably the best ones I have had so far. The dough is soft and the fillings are flavorful. If it's in the business name, it has to be that good I guess. Everyone in the area should at least give it a try once.
google avatar

Rakesh G.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious. Our kids, apprehensive at first with eating the spinach versions, ended up eating more than 1 each. We had the truck cater at a school event. We had several compliments from the parents.
google avatar

Brittany H.

Yelp
Awesome empanadas! I happened on this food truck in Reston and wasn't disappointed. I tried the Pineapple chicken, which was loaded with complex flavors and was very well balanced, and the Spicy Beef, which was also tasty and definitely packed some heat. The crust was light, hot & crispy, and the perfect compliment to the ooey gooey filling. I would definitely recommend!
