"Conveniently located between popular El Dorado and Lakeside beaches in South Lake Tahoe is Empanash, a pop-up empanada bakery that opened its permanent location back in 2019. The Argentinian owners do a ton of sweet and savory versions (served with chimichurri, naturally), which includes options for vegetarians. Go at literally any point in the day for the spicy Henhouse with sauteed onions and their Popeye empanada with spinach, mozzarella, and mushrooms. Expect lines, especially on days when homemade Argentinian dulce de leche cookies, called alfajores, are on the menu." - suzie dundas

It is so hard to find empanadas that we were very excited to try Empanash. We were not disappointed! Will definitely return to try more options. We ordered a breakfast empanada and a cinner (apple and cinnamon) and enjoyed them both a lot. It is a little hard to find but worth the effort!

Best Empanadas I've ever had! The crust is literally perfect, fried like a pro and not greasy. They are perfectly constructed and no feeling leaks out Of course they were all flavorful. The owner was very very nice as well

Quite possibly the best empanada I've ever had, including outside of the US. I had the beef empanada, and it was packed with flavor. The guy at the restaurant was incredibly friendly, explained everything in detail, and gave recommendations. Great spot.

i’ve never had an empanada, but this is probably the best it can get! lovely people running the place and each piece is so so filling. vegetarian ones were good, and enjoyed the proteins with fillings that weren’t too dry!

We had a family of 10 and an infant. Organization was not our strong suit. Found this place and, oh my, how fabulous!! Owners were patient, kind and happy to have us there, regardless of our chaos ☺️. Now the food. BEST empanadas ever!! We ordered a variety and every one of them was delicious. Made perfectly and totally with love. Thank you 💞

We were visiting and this was hands down one of our favorite meals we ate! I have been to Argentina and had empanadas there, and these were more beautiful and stuffed full of flavorful fillings. My husband and I split a beef, chicken, ham & cheese, and the spinach & mushroom. Wow!! So good and now I’m home craving these delicious empanadas!! Bonus- the owner and all staff are so kind and friendly. Supporting them was easy and delightful.

All I can say is WOW!! My partner and I are a fiend for empanadas. We try them at every chance we get. These have to be the best we have ever had the pleasure of tasting. This is out of a sample size of at least 1,000 empanadas. The owner and his staff might be the nicest and most humble/genuine people we have ever countered. His care , concern , and passion for his business and food shows tenfold. We sampled 6 flavors and everyone was absolutely incredible. The chimichurri was so good we bought his large container to gift. I cannot wait to go back and urge you strongly to check this place out. The parking lot is free for an hour. So send it.

If you're going to go skiing at Heavenly, you absolutely NEED to stop by Empanash to get reenergized after hitting the slopes. This restaurant is tiny, but mighty, and it serves so really delicious empanadas. We've tried all of the flavors on multiple occasions - even when we weren't starving and everything tastes good - and found that the food isn't only delicious, but is consistently delicious every time. The crusts are always light and flaky, the fillings are generous, and everything is heated to order. The only complaint, which is a honestly a minor one, is that the place is tiny. If you happen to go on a busy weekend, table seating is sparce, but the restaurant does move quickly and again, the food is delightful. It's a great budget meal to enjoy and still one of our favorite places to eat when in the Tahoe area.
