We love Empire Baking Co! I've been a customer for many years & typically have my favorites. I recently introduced my partner. He loved it & then introduced his out-of-state daughters to it. They're very discerning & raved about everything we bought. In the process of shopping, I had the opportunity to visit with the manager, & her suggestions were marvelous. I wish that we didn't live 200 miles away, but each time we're in Dallas (which is fortunately @ least once/month), we'll be @ Empire to stock up.

For Rosh Hashana I pre-ordered ruggelech and challah. The ruggelech wasn't traditional at all, but it was tasty. It was on the drier side instead of stick and moist like every other ruggelech I've had. It also contained a lot of nuts, which I wasn't expecting and which wasn't mentioned on the menu. They're also twice the size of most ruggelech I've had, so I cut them in half before serving. Haven't had the challah yet, but it looks delicious. Will update once I try it!

The most memorable thing about this visit was the pecan wheel pastry and the ice tea. I’m still kind of surprised, but this was the best iced tea I’ve ever had. The pecan wheel was so delicate and packed full of flavor

Very very expensive, I didn’t buy bread, so the making by hard response is not relevant. Cookies 3.50 each! Old bread toasted to salvage it 9.99 for about 20 thin pieces, tasted burnt.

Google
Empire Baking Company is such an incredible family owned bakery and cafe. Learning how the bread is made and all the amazing ingredients they use is astonishing! They have so many bread options, salad plates, side salads, sandwiches and sweets. I love everything they make! Everything is made by hand and it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! My current favorite sandwich is a new addition called the Pastrami Pimento Sandwich. The sandwich comes with cheddar cheese, pimento, green & red onion, dill, mayonnaise, pastrami, pickles & whole grain mustard on Jalapeño Cheddar Bread. It’s definitely a must try! I definitely recommend!

Google
Del mejor pan en Dallas, fresco, artesanal & delicioso! This is, definitely, the best bakery in Dallas! Fresh bread every day!

Older lady was rude, spent about 14 bucks food just ok. Store was clean!

Google
The salad was fresh and tasty. The bread was a great complement to my salad. I took a piece of lemon poppy seed bread home, and had some with coffee it was delicious. I will purchase from the wide selection at Empire Baking Co again!

Yelp
Delicious food, great customer service, convenient location. Additional visits: YES!!!

Yelp
When I order on Tuesday they said wouldn't be baked & ready until Thursday.... Want out come?? Waiting until after event...

Nash G.

Yelp
Very cute store, with fresh goods. I purchased the tuna sandwich which I thought was good, I was not a fan as the bread was soggy and the sandwich was pretty pricey. I will go back again to try another sandwich.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Wonderful family owned bakery. Made from scratch hearty breads, delicious cookies and baked goods. Fabulous seasonal baked treats, including Kings Cake and Chocolate Babka. A well stocked pantry of artisan jams, spreads, salads, and, wooden serving platters. There are also already made sandwiches to go. Friendly is the staff. On my rotation of a monthly visit along with my other favorite Big D's bakeries! CHEERS!

Charlie W.

Yelp
I tried the sesame cookie for something different- it was absolutely amazing! The cranberry scone is off the hook. Lots of cookie choices. Today also got the special king cake and it was a great way to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Staff are absolutely awesome and so helpful. Lots of free parking. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about Empire. High quality bakery, people, and goods.Consistent quality.

Yelp
Love this place, tons of fresh bread options and friendly staff. The Jewish rye is amazing, sourdough is tart and delicious, pastries are large and flaky. What's not to love!

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Great selection of everything from pastries to cookies, rolls, loafs of bread, lobster roll buns, salads, spreads, jams, etc. Really loved the pumpkin muffin and cornflake cookie. Super friendly service and feels great to support local businesses!

Amy W.

Yelp
We stopped n for a quick snack while waiting for Rise No1 to open. I ordered a rugelach - which was one of the better ones I have eaten that was not home-made. I went back in to order a 2nd one for a snack later in the day.

Mónica C.

Yelp
Decided to try this place for our very first time today.. We walked in about 12pm, we weren't initially greeted. I had to sarcastically say "good morning" in my best CSR voice to be acknowledged, to be promptly ignored again. We were sort of standing around waiting for one of the 2 ladies at checkout to help us. So, again I had to initiate conversation with the older lady. We ordered the butter and chocolate crossaints, and a sticky bun which was very hard even after microwaving. The total came out to 24 dollars for the pastries, bad service was free of charge, I guess.

Yelp
Everything is very good, I started visiting this bakery about a year ago and I love it. Although I will say I was very disappointed and upset when I placed my order for Thanksgiving. I flew in from vacation the day before Thanksgiving, got in my car and drove to pick up my order which was already paid for. I received a text telling me it was not ready and 30 minutes later a phone call telling me it was ready. I drove to the bakery where they had all order bags just sitting there. I drove 1.5 hours (with traffic) one way. The person that was there directed me to look for my order name. I advised her it was not there, she asked me to look again and I did and again told her it was not there. I wish they were more organized to avoid someone accidentally or intentionally picking up an order. The lady and the guy that were there didn't even try to make it any better and all they said was I have already put the money back to you. Honestly , it seemed they did not care

Yelp
Bought a 6 pk of their Ciabatta buns Sunday at Local Yokel Farmer's Market in downtown McKinney. Made a Cubano with one Monday. perfect. Tonight, split one, buttered both pieces, put em in a 380 degr oven for 10 minutes and had it for dessert, lol. These are great. Chewy, crusty, airy, and tasty. I've knowingly had nothing else from them (perhaps at restaurants?) and we're just loving this Ciabatta so solid 5*. Gonna stop by the University dr. location, next time we head to Lower Greenville to see our daughter and, stock up

Jana C.

Yelp
The cookies were pretty yummy. Sourdough was chewy and fresh, good amount of holes and the crumb was nice. Fancy little bread store next to Flower Child.

Diana K.

Yelp
Good banana bread but annoyingly slow and bad customer service. Please stop gabbing and serve your customers. The first time, the lady overcharged me $12... good thing I caught i

Geno P.

Yelp
I was excited to try the sandwiches. However, all the food is pre-made and cold, stored in a refrigerator. The ham on baguette was good. The Turkey with apples was nothing special. The $4 brownie was $$ but delicious. I wanted to try the pimento and pastrami, but they were sold out. Not sure if I'll go back, I like my sandwiches hot

Ashley P.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! We were searching for a place to pick up a few good loaves of bread for Sunday dinner and we hit the jackpot here. The jalapeño cheddar loaf is flavorful and dense in the best way. We bought it around 10 and it stayed fresh until that evening and was a hit all across the board with kids ranging from 6 all the way up to adults. Just enough heat to give flavor but wasn't spicy. Left overs will be great toasted with cheese and a fried egg on top. Or a grilled cheese! We got the farm long loaf (I think it was called that?) but it was a mix of flours with a sourdough starter and was flavorful but mild. I can't wait to make french toast with the leftovers tomorrow morning. My husband got the BLT from their fridge and he loved it. Super fresh. We got a chocolate filled patisserie and it was golden and flaky, very similar to those we had in France. He got the sea salt chocolate chip cookie and while it was nice it wasn't his favorite. If you're looking for an awesome place to get bread or sandwiches we highly suggest this place!

P O.

Yelp
Best sandwiches, best cookies! Best breads all made onsite and best pies! Highly recommend it all

Steve M.

Yelp
It was ok if you like eating your lunch out of a refrigerator. Not many choices. Ok on pinch.

Ziggy E.

Yelp
I only come to this place for the sandwiches and they are not even stocked until 9. Considering they open at 8 and sit there for a hour with empty fridges, I think it's pretty ridiculous. If you open at 8, all of your products should be ready to go, not just the bread counter. If it takes that long to make them, the employees should get there earlier to ensure all products are available at opening. Very frustrated and won't be returning.

Catherine H.

Yelp
Reading the reviews we had to stop in. We usually get our sourdough from whole foods (pathetic I know) but I'm so glad we decided to stop in. We got the sourdough and it was seriously the best. They do have a wide range of different breads and pastries. I tried the croissant because I'm a sucker for croissant and it was seriously one of the best I've ever had. There was this butter after taste that was so smooth in your mouth it was amazing. I wish this place was closer but I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area

Maria M.

Yelp
I recently tried the Niçoise salad which comes with spring greens/cabbage mix, tuna salad, sun-dried tomato, pickled green tomato, pickled red onion, olives, croutons, boiled egg, scallion vinaigrette. I definitely recommend!

John P.

Yelp
Jewish rye bread is outstanding. I've never had better in Chicago or New York. We also like the baguette and Rugulah and French breads. They need an outlet in Plano!

Judy S.

Yelp
Lucky's Cafe votes Empire Bakery BEST SERVICE in town. We have thought this for a long time and now it is time to write about it. Empire has never let us down in all the years we have been partners. Literally through ice and snow they are here no matter what. We so appreciate YOU!!!

Irene Y.

Yelp
I had a 4:30pm plane to catch, so I wanted to grab a quick sammy before heading back home. Empire Baking Company was along the way to the airport so I made a quick pit-stop. TIP: The Bakery is somewhat sandwiched (no pun intended) between a converging shopping plaza strip, so it might be a bit difficult to find from the street. After a few u-turns, we finally made it to the little shop. When you enter you'll see handcrafted sammys in the fridge and if memory serves me correctly, they're discounted from 5-6pm! I pondered over the offerings and decided on trying the curry chicken salad sandwich on pumpernickel with raison bread. The sammy was solid and I appreciated the soft artisan bread, but at a little less than $10 bucks it was definitely on the pricier side. A worthwhile visit during their happy hour time slot, but if I were to redo my visit, I'd probably just pick up a loaf of bread and assemble a sammy at home :)

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Great bakery! Don't sleep on the Pimiento Cheese spread! YUM! Reminded me of my grandma's. Cute little spot in nice shopping area.

Kirsten B.

Yelp
Fantastic breads. Hippie health is the bomb! They need a location in Plano or Frisco!!! I'll manage a new location for y'all.

Melissa P.

Yelp
This bakery has the best bread in Dallas & the best curry chicken salad sandwich! I only wish Empire would open up a store in Plano or Frisco.

Carla E.

Yelp
This amazing bakery was a REAL FIND, the best baked goods EVER, Great sandwiches and everything in between all kinds of treats!!! And the manager Tammy is a stellar asset to this company. My FAVORITE BAKERY BY FAR!!

Melissa B.

Yelp
The lunch I got here was a little more expensive than I'd planned but it was really great. The sandwiches are all in a cooler, pre-made. I got turkey that had apples and cheese with a lemonade and a salted chocolate chip cookie. Do not pass up the cookie! I wanted to get a loaf of bread but got so distracted by all the other things, I forgot to get the freaking bread!

Liz S.

Yelp
A great grab-n-go spot for Dallas-ites on the move. In the coolers you can find freshly made sandwiches, salads and also salad trios with chicken or tuna salad, fruit and pasta salad. There is also some of the best bread in Dallas baked fresh daily which will be sliced just for you to take home.

Yelp
I recently moved to Dallas and haven't had a bad meal or experience yet! That changed last Saturday when I had friends from out of town, visiting... We searched out a good bakery near Love Field and found this spot based on location and good Yelp reviews. When me, my boyfriend and our two friends entered, there was only one group of patrons ahead of us. They were being helped by a woman behind the counter, so the other male employee who was working started helping me and my boyfriend. Two other men came in the store while we were paying and instead of taking my friends next, the woman helped the new customers first. Well, they wanted to clear out the non-sweet bagel supply (6 sesame seed bagels!) and she was about to let them do so, until my friend asked the men directly if they could spare one for her because she doesn't like cinnamon raisin (and we had been there for a solid 5 minutes before they arrived). The guys were kind enough to give one up to her, but they should not have had the opportunity to order before my friends anyway. Once the bagels came out, we were told there was no cream cheese in the bakery --- I am still unclear if it was all given to the bagel bandits or simply an unrelated shortage of cream cheese. Mind you, this is all at 10:30am, so unsure why the lack of bagels or cream cheese at a bakery, on the weekend. The woman would only address my friend with the cinnamon raisin bagel, offering "butter or jam" --- but completely ignored the sesame bagel girl as she could not offer an alternative to her. We ended up leaving, getting cream cheese AND eating outside at Starbucks across the lot. Never again for me and definitely won't recommend to anyone. Unfortunately made for a bad ending to a good trip. The bagel's weren't even good...!

Paulette J.

Yelp
This is my favorite bakery in Dallas. Their breads are beyond compare. Sourdough is my favorite. Everything I've ever had tastes completely homemade and delicious!

V V.

Yelp
Excellent baked pastries and breads. They also have premade sandwiches and salads. My friend got the chocolate pumpkin muffin and she loved it. I believe Garden Cafe serves their seeded wheat bread and it is so good. I've actually bought a loaf from Garden Cafe.

Alysia E.

Yelp
This is the best bakery. We buy a loaf of sourdough bread from them every week. They have so many great options but nothing beats their sourdough and farm logs. It is really small in there but everything is so yummy. I love a good "small business" and will definitely continue to go there weekly.

Grix P.

Yelp
Empire is a good place to stop for a quick lunch or a baked good. They are located exactly across the street from Starbucks. The staff is friendly and depending on the day, parking can be a nightmare. Their cooler is full of sandwiches like: Pimento, Turkey, Ham, Veggie etc. They also have salads and tons of drinks. The sandwiches are pretty pricey, but so it's everything on that shopping center, so... If you are going to grab a sandwich and a bag of chips, you will spend $11. They have beautiful beads too, but I've never tried them. Their sweets are pretty amazing though, try the peach-oatmeal bars...WOW!

Samuel B.

Yelp
Forget ambiance. Ignore the sandwich pairing. Shrug off the drink menu. All that stuff is tinsel, pink foam dice, and mascara. A bakery exists for the bread. Empire's loaves are texturally complex and bursting with savory goodness. Try to catch them fresh off the oven. Dallas, often seen as too busy counting its money to shake hands, will not be on anyone's top-ten lists for southern hospitality in the near future. Still, the yeasty goodwill at Empire provides a kitchen-table oasis for natives and hungry travelers alike.

Terry T.

Yelp
This is the Best Bakery in the city- bar none! We have been to Eatzi's, Carlos, Panera, et.al. and this bakery is the best. If you have not tried the the bread, you must! The Danish or Rugelach? Then get over here now! They also make very quality sandwiches and salads. I am so glad this bakery is within 15 minutes of the house. I think my wife and i have tried almost everything they have and there is not one item they have that is not Great! Lastly, there is a young man that works there that is so very friendly and accommodating. He always has a smile on his face and is always so very pleasant. My wife wants to know if he ever takes any time off because he seems to be the iconic face of the bakery - literally and figuratively :-) Anyway, do yourself a favor and try everything they have on the menu.

Joel W.

Yelp
They have the best baguettes in Dallas. These are probably the best baguettes in Texas, or maybe in the entire Southwest. I don't know how they make them so good. They are chewy and crusty and have a certain earthy tang that reminds me of a rural French municipal water supply. Maybe their recipe includes sand from the beaches of Normandy. I have no idea. If you like crusty European baguettes you will love these. I buy them by the dozen and freeze them. They are ridiculously inexpensive, and near closing time they are buy-one get-one free. I almost didn't post this review because I don't want them to become too popular and raise their prices. I have been hopelessly addicted for years.

Joshua E.

Yelp
Stick with the bread... the prepared food items are not that great (except the pimento cheese). The sourdough bread is straight from heaven, and the baguette is the best I've had. The sandwiches are not very good at all and way over priced and the tuna is way too sweet. However, I want their recipe for Pimento cheese. It is SO good.

Dianne S.

Yelp
The bread, the cookies (especially the raspberry rugula and the shortbread), the sandwiches and my fav raisin pecan crisps - such an awesome bakery. I feel like I'm in Santa Monica at this place. Except the parking is easy. Haha!

Leigh P.

Yelp
I married someone who some might say is "fancy". He really can't help it, he was raised by a french speaking woman whose standards know no end and will probably find a smudge on the pearly gates when she gets there and will bitch about it. Luckily, this woman is now my mother in law. One of those things that my fancy husband insists on is good bread. He'd rather go Atkins than eat the crap, dense, dry baguettes that Central Market puts out. I made that mistake once and it took just one look to know I'd screwed up. We don't talk about that day. There are just a few places in town that meets his baguette standards and Empire Baking Company is one of them. We will drive 30 minutes out of our way for their lovely carbs. The baguette is perfect. It's not that dense, overworked crap that so many places offer, it's exactly what you want. Crisp outside, soft, pliable, holey inside. Thank you Empire for making bread the right way, and for giving my man, Mister Fancy, a little taste of home in Dallas.

Lee K.

Yelp
Holy shit, can we please talk about Empire Baking? Like, intimately talk about them? And how awesome they are? And how I want to retire inside their Jalapeno Cheese Bread? OK, let's just talk about their bread as a whole. Without a doubt, my favorite thing about Empire Baking are their loaves of bread. They come in a traditional loaf and there are sooo many kinds to choose from. The crusts are thick and crisp, but still with some give. The actual bread is always moist, but not wet, and firm but with considerable softness. As detailed above, the Jalapeno Cheese loaf is my spirit animal here. I would start there and work your way to other loaves that you're interested in. It has the perfect amount of spice, but is not overwhelming. I'm probably doing a poor job of describing how this place is heaven with carbs, so stop by today or place an order through Artizone and enjoy in whatever is the opposite of moderation.

Linda B.

Yelp
Mmmm.....the smell of fresh baked goodies. Hits you as soon as you walk in the door. Big ol' rounds of Paesano bread stacked up, just waiting for me. Light but hole-y inside, hard and crusty outside. Just right for soaking up the gravy from a pot of chili or beef stew. You're welcome. Also, on the counter on this particular visit were slices of various breakfast pastries, just for the sampling. Some guy in line ahead of us wondered which he should try, and I said "every one". Big eyeroll from the guy...whatever. I sampled the chocolate croissant, the almond croissant and we ended up buying some for Big Game Day breakfast. Mmmmm.....

Cotton F.

Yelp
Love the BLT on jalapeno cheddar bread... Quality bacon... Bakery products have been good as well. Not a large selection though. Remind me of La Brea product line which is quite good. http://www.labreabakery.com/index.aspx#/products

Lily M.

Yelp
The Carrot Cake Pecan Muffin was so fresh and moist! The muffin had just the right amount of carrots, fruits, and oil to balance the sweet and ginger flavor. I would highly recommend this muffin! Thankfully, we tried it because we initially came from the blueberry muffin, which they were out of. The Chocolate Croissant was not a real winner in my book. The croissant was too buttery and not enough chocolate for the thick interior breading. They also had samples of an orange lemon pound cake and it was simply divine. I would come back here again for sure!

Mimi B.

Yelp
Rugulah yum-uh-lah! Raspberry and sugar and pastry and heaven. The breads look good and I've eaten then from restaurants around. So good! Not sure it's better than competitor, village baking company, but it's good! It's bright and easily located at least!

Joshua K.

Yelp
This place is a small shop, but it's got some great fresh bread and pastries. Get a loaf and they can slice it for you, or try one of their sweets, sandwiches, or salads. We usually get the croissants and a loaf.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
This BREAD. It is so amazing. We live in Arlington and my husband requests that I make the trip to get Empire Baking Company bread. We have tried several (Whole Wheat, Jalapeno Cheese, Mockingbird, Hippie Health) all delicious!! Worth the drive every time. We love that it is baked daily, locally and uses only the best ingredients. The proof is in the bite !

A.T. M.

Yelp
So far all the bread options we've tried have been great! Hippie bread, multi-grain, Jewish rye. Humberta is always so friendly and provides excellent customer service. We drive from far just to get our bread and it is worth it!
