Pizza slices are being served just right at the Empire Slice House. Located in the historic Plaza District in Oklahoma City, Empire Slice House was originally founded in Oklahoma City ten years ago by Oklahoma-native, Rachel Cope, and the idea and concept was expanded over the years by the 84 Hospitality Group squad. Serving up traditionally thin "New York" style pizza that is served by the slice or the pie, Empire Slice House opened this location along Northwest 16th Street over five years ago in a newly built building that borders a Mule restaurant on one side and residential homes on the other. We came to Empire Slice House on a chilly weeknight after having a craving for pizza. Upon entry to this happening place there were posters of pop culture music legends plastered on the wall, in addition to a lively bar scene and open kitchen with pizza makers flipping their pizza dough. Even though we didn't have reservations, they were able to place our party of five people in a booth towards the rear of the restaurant. What makes Empire Slice House unique is that they serve their pizzas by the slice on a daily menu, as the variety of five choices that they serve, with the sole exception of Cheese and Pepperoni, changes every day. Since we came on a Friday, the additional options were Evil Empire, Ghostface Killah, and Rocksteady.
The menu at Empire Slice House, which can be accessed via QR code on every table, also is separated into categories including Appetizers, Salads, Pizza by the Slice, Pizza sold by the Pie, Beer, Wine & Cocktails, Dessert, and Non-alcoholic beverages. Although we considered ordering a pie to share, we knew that we all wanted to try different pizza slices and decided to order on our own. We did decide to split two appetizers including their Garlic Knots, which were doughy balls topped with garlic butter, parmesan, parsley, and served with a side of marinara; as well as their When I Dip, which is their creamy tri-cheese blend served with roasted artichokes, spinach, and garlic served with lavash chips. For my pizza slices, I decided to order a slice of their Evil Empire, which was topped with spicy marinara, jalapeños, poblanos, and a cherry pepper relish, and a slice of their Ghostface Killa, which was topped with ghost chili marinara, pepperoni, poblano, BBQ chips. Most of my fellow diners opted to order two slices as well usually their Cheese and Pepperoni options, with one diner also ordering their half size version of their Spinach Salad, which was topped with bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, pickled onion, and an orange balsamic vinaigrette.
Our appetizers and salad were delivered to our table first and although all three dishes were quite tasty, the highlight of this portion of our meal had to have been their Garlic Knots, which were covered in butter and parmesan which only added to the fun of splitting up the bread between us all and dining with our hands. The salad was a healthy alternative and a must get for those who need vegetables in their overall meal. Then it was time for our pizza slices, as I made sure to keep the remaining marinara sauce that came with the Garlic Knots, which I added to the ranch that our server offered all of our diners to pair with our pizza slices. Of my two slices, I really liked the Evil Empire, as it was the perfect combination of vegetables and cheese, and thankfully wasn't too spicy of a dish, that was until my last bite as I must have eaten a seed from a jalapeño or poblano because things got really spicy after that. My Ghostface Killa pizza slice was more complicated as it had too many ingredients and felt like it was trying too hard all at once. I was so full that I decided to take part of this slice of pizza home, and honestly it was a better slice heated up after a day than eating right then and there. Our total bill was roughly 84 dollars, which with five people this much amount of food was rather reasonable. I would definitely return to Empire Slice House in the future, as they provide affordable options for pizza slices and other dishes. I do wish I came on another day, as their Friday options were just a little too much for me and some of their options on other days seemed like better alternatives. The fact that they even serve pizza slices for people to enjoy during a sit-down meal is actually a rarity where I come from, and with pizza as nicely and uniquely composed as they are at Empire Slice House, we are all lucky to be able to try their slices at least once in a lifetime.
