"The Empire Retreat and Spa is a winery as well, with twelve acres of vines surrounded by virgin bushland. The house was a private residence first, lending it plenty of personality, while its eleven suites are stylish and contemporary-luxe, furnished by Empire’s other concern, an upscale homewares brand. The spa is impressively well-equipped and visually stunning." - Mark Fedeli

Where to start? This is the first place I've stayed that has felt truly 5 star. You can tell from the minute you drive in that the owners and staff put a lot of effort into it. Top reasons to stay here: 1. Set in beautiful bush away from main town 2. Over 18 only - no loud kids or big groups 3. Room we stayed in was really roomy and had a bath as well as outdoor shower 4. Private decking in our room was bliss 5. The Breakfast and the breakfast location!!!!!!! 6. Very clean inside and out & the lovely cleaning staff do a little tidy for you each day 7. So tastefully styled with Empire Home wears products Can't wait to go back!

I was so excited to return after we spent our honeymoon here 6 years ago. Overall we had a great stay but there were just a couple of things that tarnished our experience. The first is that there was a cockroach problem. On our second night, I went to use a fresh face towel and screamed because a cockroach fell out of the towel as I picked it up. I didn't say anything to management at the time because yes, I get it, we're in the bush and maybe I was just unlucky. But this morning I literally was woken at 6am to a roach crawling on my hand! I have to say that was a first for me and not something I'd expect from luxury accommodation. All I can say is I'm glad it happened on the morning we were leaving because there's no way I would have felt comfortable sleeping in that room again after that. The second thing is regarding the spa. My therapist was excellent and overall I really enjoyed both my pregnancy massage and facial, however I would absolutely not recommend having a pregnancy treatment here. Pregnancy massages are performed lying on your side, which actually was ok but I've had numerous pregnancy massages elsewhere (including Bodhi) and every other place has a pregnancy pillow with a hole cut out for the belly so you can lie horizontally. Regardless, the massage was still enjoyable on my side. The issue was with the massage table used for the facial. It wasn't adjustable so the only option was to lie horizontal which isn't just uncomfortable for pregnant women (I'm 28 weeks) but also dangerous and not advised by obstetricians. Again, I've had other treatments at other salons and they have all had adjustable beds so I could lie comfortably in a more angled/upright position. My therapist did an amazing job getting me comfortable and upright enough using pillows, so all credit to her, but by the end of the 1.5 hours my hips were in searing pain. I provided all of the above feedback as we checked out and to their credit they said they would take it on board. I don't want to be overly negative but I just don't feel comfortable giving more than a 2 star review until the cockroach issue is resolved - I'd hate for anyone else to experience what I did, especially when we paid $750 a night.

I stayed at Empire Spa Retreat by myself for 4 nights. The location is perfect, not too far from Dunsborough and Margaret River. The communication with the retreat staff prior to going, and during my stay was fantastic. They provided local information about restaurants, tour providers, spa treatments and even dress codes for where I was going for meals. The atmosphere in the retreat is cozy, inviting, warm, and very much a part of the natural surrounds. I had 3 spa treatments while I was there, including 2 of the spa rituals. They were absolute bliss. From full body scrubs, scalp massage, hair treatment, sauna, deep tissue and pressure point massage and facials, they do it all. I highly recommend Flora, Seraphina and Erica!|The staff all greeted me by name and were very interested in what I had planned for each day. The breakfast was INCREDIBLE, with freshly brewed barista coffee, an amazing array of continental breakfast, and a made to order hot meal off a menu all included in your stay. The room was so comfy. I stayed in the loft suite and couldn't have asked for more. I'll definitely be back again!

Highly recommend staying at the Empire Retreat. We were fortunate enough to get an upgrade which was an added bonus. The staff were always so helpful in recommending places to see and restaurants. The breakfast was also amazing. They put an amazing spread! Will definitely be back.

This is a charming, delightful and understated place. It has just changed ownership so there may be some changes on the horizon? I think it does need some investment and that may make it change direction|We loved our time there, simple and comfortable room - maybe a little dated, but not to put anyone off. Particularly loved the outside shower!!|Delicious breakfast served with option to sit outside under the trees|We did not use the spa so cant comment on that|We would definitely stay again

The Empire Resort was fantastic in every way. The rooms, the service and breakfast was great. If you're looking for a quiet getaway for you and your partner, this is the place! The only downside is that dining options are somewhat limited of a night time, however there is a basic kitchen that can be used for heating & preparing meals. Thank you Empire hotel, we will be back!

Where do I begin we had high expectations of this place and our expectations well and truly were exceeded!! This place is honestly the most beautiful piece of paradise with such a quiet calming feel about it which my wife and I absolutely loved.|We did the 2 day experience pack for the deluxe room with breakfast included a beautiful gourmet hamper with an abundance of delicious gourmet treats, a massage each and a bottle of red and white wine. |I bought this experience for my Wife's 50th birthday and was also for us being together 13 years. The staff were absolutely amazing so bubbly and friendly and professional, Our deluxe room was beautiful the decor is so modern and so well designed, the daily breakfast was plentiful and at a very high standard and a good selection, the peacefulness and the lush surroundings were very calming and the massages we had was absolutely by far the best both my wife and I have ever had they were extremely well trained and intuitive. ||It is beyond 5 stars in my eyes everything I couldn't fault it holds such a high bar with the experiences we've had at other places and we would both come back to this wonderful place in a heart beat. Highly recommend this Retreat especially if you want to come for a nice peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle.
