The Atlantic Publishes a Truly Depressing Guide to Dallas’ Suburban Dining Scene | Eater Dallas

"I note an outpost of Emporium Pies in McKinney, mentioned among the city’s “killer homegrown spots” used to challenge Khazan’s claim that her hometown has few noteworthy independent eateries." - Amy McCarthy

Google
We liked Emporium Pies! The storefront is very cute and fun environment. The pies are very delicious especially with the bluebell ice cream. The apples were perfectly cooked and the crumble on top was generous and delicious. The chocolate pie with pretzel crust was also great with the super sweet and rich filling and the salty crust. I do kind of with the had a pie for chocolate lovers such as Oreo crust, chocolate filling, and chocolate topping of some sort.

Google
Every pie I’ve tried here is absolutely scrumptious. They have regulars, seasonal offerings, and new products as well. Very creative, and staff are kind.

Google
Wow! Walked in on the last day of Christmas in July seasonal flavors and got a slice of Merry Berry. Cranberry, Pecan. With a sugar cookie crust! I am not a big pecan fan but the cranberries and sugar cookie brought a unique flavorful experience. Cannot wait to come back to try the other seasonal pies!

Google
Excellent pies, but at a price! Nice little shop, friendly staff.

The Bonnie and Pied was amazing! This pie shop is so cute and everyone was super friendly!

Google
By far the best pies I've ever had. Both the filling and the crust are fantastic. Every part's very flavorful. My favorite is the pumpkin, but I've had many different kinds and they've all been amazing.

Google
My wife and I went to this place after a party to have a fun and enjoyable time. We managed to find exactly what we were looking for, a very delicious pie. We ordered two different flavors, the pie was wonderful. To complement it, we ordered a coffee that was very tasty! I recommend this place.

Alex O.

Google
Their lord of pies is my absolute favorite! We have enjoyed trying different flavors over the years. The only downside is they sell out of good flavors so fast. It’s one of our favorite treats to get before leaving the square. They have all kinds of flavors and textures.

Yelp
TLDR; come here and order anything. You can't go wrong. Just don't come if you're on a diet, like me lol I've lost track of how many times I've stopped by here for pie. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. I do remember the first time that I did have a slice of Lord of the Pies on Thanksgiving. We were at my parents' house and my cousin's boyfriend at the time flew it back west for us. We followed the heating instructions and with my first bite, I knew that there was no contest- this is the best pie I've ever had! The pie selection changes with the seasons and you can always order ahead online. They do an extremely organized and easy holiday pickup for pies as well. Which, isn't completely necessary if you visit during a lull. Sometimes, I feel a little reckless and won't order ahead but try my luck just walking in. I know, I live life on the edge. Everyone that works here is always helpful. I've never had a bad experience, even with the team working on confirmation of holiday pie orders. The actual seating space inside is a bit limited, definitely more on the cozy side if you decide to dine in. So be prepared to pack it in like sardines if you arrive with a large party. But the pies travel well, even across the country, so either way it'll be worthwhile!
google avatar

Goodness I.

Yelp
Had a great first experience here! They have different flavors of pie, some that are seasonal and some that stay year round. The employees were very knowledgeable and kind. The pie was yummy and I'm not even a pie person

Yelp

Yelp
Best pies in Texas hands down!!!! I can't ever just get one slice is the problem. I love their apple pie. I bring it home and heat it slightly with some ice cream and it's game over. The shop is super cute to visit as well and have a sit down.
google avatar

Yelp
I visit here often, I'd say once a month. I love their everyday pies and really love their monthly specials. The Dr. Love was the most recent I tried. Yummy red velvet goodness. This eatery has 4 tables, mostly people getting pies to go.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Smooth Operator is sooooooo good. One of the best pieces of pie I have ever had. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Every piece I've tried has been amazing. My wife and I love swinging by here and grabbing a piece of pie after eating at Cadillac Pizza, The Celt or enjoying a frozen sangria from Landon's.
google avatar

Rob T.

Yelp
Cute little place for a bit of dessert after a downtown McKinney dinner. The pies were tasty (Drunken Nut and Bonnie+Pie'd) but very small slices for the price. It was about $20 for two slices.
google avatar

Carmen P.

Yelp
#YesPlease!! Pie heaven.... Please, give your self a little grace and have a slice of PIE! Popped in for a peek... ordered the Bourbon Pecan pie with a shortbread crust... this one is a home run; light and scrumptious. FYI ... you'll want more than 1 slice. Even the packaging is inviting ...
google avatar

Kyerra B.

Yelp
If you're ever on the mood for a sweet treat this is the spot for you! The pies are delish & the staff is always friendly! You can't go wrong with the Drunken Nut (their version of a pecan pie) or the Lord of the pies (their spin on an apple pie with a cinnamon crumble) !!
google avatar

Nuzhat B.

Yelp
Cute tiny place with fast and friendly service. Red Velvet and Smooth Operator My friends are a fan of Emporium Pies, but they made me wait until February to try it so i can try the Valentine's month special: Red Velvet, which was amazing and totally worth the wait. Now I have something to look forward to every February! We also tried the Smooth Operator, which was also really good!
google avatar

Yelp
I got the Dr. Love & my husband got the muffin Man with the scoop. We probably didn't need to get the ice cream scoop for each but we'll know the next time. Both pie were very rich and delicious however I was hoping for a flaky crust which neither had. It was $8 for a slice of pie and $2 for the two scoops of ice creams it's pretty pricey but would still come back to try other flavors though!
google avatar

Jamie A.

Yelp
Emporium is a great spot to end of your date nights in downtown McKinney! My husband loves the Lord of the Pies and I love the Drunken Nut the best! Prices can be expensive for just one slice but the taste definitely justifies the occasional treat! The location is small but conveniently located close to several popular restaurants in downtown McKinney!
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
Not impressed, I eat a lot of pie, I'm a big guy, this was fair tasting but the crust was ridiculous, like it was harder than a Chicago deep dish crust pizza, almost inedible. I think they are trying to be cool by making this ridiculously large crusted apple pie. What's worse, I ordered a milk and they gave me a child size off the shelf 8 oz joke of a milk. What kind of pie place doesn't have actual bottled milk? Honestly the pies at Costco are better than this, just sayin. Great service and quaint little place, I like the atmosphere, but the pies left much to be desired.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I loveeee Emporium pies they have amazing regular every day & seasonal flavors!! One of my favorite dessert restaurants
google avatar

Artie D.

Yelp
Good lord, if you are in need of a piece of pie please swing by Emporium Pies and have a piece. The choices are small but they are delicious, nice staff and super cozy place.
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
Gosh, I love dessert! I knew I had to try Emporium Pies and I was very happy when we stumbled upon their McKinney location. I picked up a slice to enjoy later in the day. I think I chose Drunken Nut but I'm really not certain. It was in the car for a little bit and not totally cold when I had it but still firm enough and delish! I can't wait to try their other flavors or revisit the slice I had. Yummy stuff! Perfect little spot for a special treat. Fast, friendly service!
google avatar

Guy H.

Yelp
I can't catch a break the last few days. My eating habits are outta control despite my best intentions. I did not intend to buy a piece of blueberry pie today. I promise! Or Apple...really! Bottom line: Emporium Pies are delicious.. Go

C J.

Yelp
Smorgasbord is my new all time favorite! Absolutely fantastic! Also, thank you for making Bonnie and pied year round. Now my second favorite pie and happy to be able to enjoy it anytime I need my emporium fix.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Cute shop, nice employees but very pricey. I didn't feel it was worth the price per slice.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
We had the Coconut Pie and the Smooth Operator. Each slice was $7. The coconut pie was average. I could barely taste the difference between the filling and the whipped cream on top. The coconut flavor was there. The crust tasted like old play-doh that has been left out. The smooth operator had a nice, silky smooth chocolate filling! The crust was supposed to be salted caramel, but it tasted like a Nature Valley granola bar. Too much oat flavor, too grainy, and nothing special. The interior was very cute and the service was good!

Katie C.

Yelp
Exceeded expectations. We ordered the coconut pie and it was wonderfully toasted coconut with a sweet fluffy filling. The decoration matching the rotating menu was a great addition
google avatar

Zarina A.

Yelp
They always have the best pies in town. Love how there are a few locations in the DFW area so there is always one near by. The service is always friendly. The size of the single slice did seem to be a little smaller compared to a couple years ago.
google avatar

Resha D.

Yelp
Came across Emporium Pies when looking for a sweet treat close to home. It's located in a really cute and convenient spot in downtown McKinney. During my first visit we got two whole pies (The Drunken Nut and Dapper Apple) not knowing it would cost $95. Got them home tried them both and we were pleased that they were actually good. Our friend took the pies home and we kept once slice of each, but after it was gone I couldn't stop thinking of the Drunken Nut. I had to go back to scratch my itch but this time I was only getting a slice. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the slices for $8. And outside of the two pies mentioned above, none of their other flavors really stick out to me. Though it was good, I don't feel the need to rush back this time around. It's honestly just a bit overpriced for me and the workers aren't mean, they just don't necessarily make it a place I'm dying to come back to.
google avatar

Ella A.

Yelp
You really can't go wrong with pie! I love their seasonal selections. Nice coffee. Very friendly atmosphere and to die for pies! Very friendly staff!

R. C.

Yelp
I make the effort to only post positive reviews, but after trying to run on a tight schedule this morning I found myself waiting for the Pie shop to open so that I could pick up an online order. Here I am waiting at 11:10 for the doors to open. I realize they're busy, but so are your customers:(
google avatar

Yelp
All I have to say is yes to the lord of the Pies. Like how the apples still have a bite. The thick crust is nice to sop up all the cinnamon deliciousness .

Colton D.

Yelp
So bought a "lord of the pies" with the description being Carmel apple pie, never having it before I assumed it would be a delicious apple pie with Carmel, but to the contrary, it came out a chalky cinnamon and maybe some kinda bourbon or alcohol with it. Was terrible, I honestly couldn't finish the piece i got, I have had better Marie Callender frozen pies. The total price was 62$ for the awful pie I bought. Since this was supposed to be my birthday dessert my mother in law attempted to return the terrible pie in hopes of exchanging. Their answer was no, that we ate from it and so that they would allow us to pick 2 new slices that replaces the old we ate. So they took back the pie we bought for $62 and then gave us 2 new slices. I wish I had been there or I would not have accepted such a blatant fraudulent deal, taking advantage of an old woman. So all in all I paid 62$ for 2 pieces of pie and a piece that ended up discarded to the waste bin. Will not be returning and it's shame Ive been a frequent buyer of the whole pies for a while now.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Such Delish pies! Try all flavors or you'll be sorry... small little place that is worth your visit!

Eric L.

Yelp
Nice looking place but this is definitely the home of the smallest pie slices in the world! $8 for a tiny slice. Ordered different kinds - bourbon pecan, dapper (?) apple, something with chocolate, and something with raspberry - and all tasted okay, but really small portions. Disappointed.
google avatar

Cindy S.

Yelp
So I've actually never stepped foot inside this store but every time my SIL comes over she brings some kind of dessert, often a whole pie, and several times they been pies from this pie shop. I've had so far the Lord of the Pies. It's a great apple pie and not traditional. So good! This pie weighs like 20# or at least it feels that heavy. Caramel inside, crumble on top. Think deep dish Chicago pizza thick! The cherry was ok. I wanted to love it because cherry is my favorite pie of all time but this one has a lot of overpowering lemon flavor for me. The drop dead gourdgeous pie was probably one of the best versions of pumpkin pie that I've ever had. This week she plans to bring the bourbon pecan so I can't wait to try that! Also on my must try list is the Melted Snowman pie. They had me at cookies and cream. One thing I love about Emporium Pies is their ability to be unique.

Yelp
I love pies and this place knows how to do it right. Their berry pie, pecan, chocolate pies are all the right level of sweetness. A perfect way to round off a good meal or to celebrate yourself on a special occasion.

Yelp
Hey so.. out on a date night.. when you get older you don't get many options with kids. If I drive to a late night pie place.. at 10:15.. like.. don't tell me you are out of coffee bro. Just make another pot. Pie was amazing. Know what would make it better? A cup of hot coffee.. on a night where it's 41°. Not only was I not the last customer. You turned down like 5 more people afterwards to tell them you were out of coffee. Guess what? You would have sold that whole carafe of coffee with just me and the rest. Hey owner... let the staff know... have hot coffee to pair with the pie you're willing to sell me at 10:30pm.. if you are open till 11pm.. have coffee.

Yelp
OH. MY. PIE. How can I possibly count the ways I love Emporium Pies??? I've been to their Deep Ellum location, and now I've begun this hot and heavy love affair with their McKinney location. My favorite weekend pastime? Heading to downtown McKinney with my bf and my pup, walking around this super sweet area, and popping over to EP for a slice of heaven. I know they rotate their seasonal flavors, but here are some of my favorites: + The Nannerz: hnnngghhh banana creme piiiiieeee + Cloud Nine: salted caramel creme pie thing that is airy and light and oh-so-freaking delicious + Chickin Lickin: this was available during Pi Day! And supposedly again in Sept - chicken pot pie, holy moly; this was so incredibly delicious. I would 100% buy the entire pie again! I've tried these also, and they're good, but just too heavy/dense/rich for me. Forgive me, I don't know their proper names: + Chocolate Silk Pie + Pecan Pie I'm originally from Miami, FL (pretty close buddies with Key West). I will say their Key Lime Pie is fantastic. :) Perfectly sweet/tart. So, basically, if you couldn't tell - I will most definitely be back. :)

Yelp
Alwyas love this place! We bring family here all the time when they're in town. I love their butter cream gang and my husband loves the nutty honey pie! Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Raquel W.

Yelp
We liked our toffee chocolate pie slice but the price of eight dollars was absolutely outrageous. The slice was like the little slice of pie you would take on thanksgiving when you're already stuffed with turkey. It's fine for a small one person dessert but absurd when it costs eight dollars. Service was terribly unfriendly too. No greeting. No smile. Nada. I walked up and happily said "do you guys still have some left of the chocolate toffee coffee one?" She said "yes." I said an enthusiastic "amazing!!! I am so excited!" and she gave me a dirty look and said nothing. As if I was annoying her for being excited to try the pie she is selling...? She handed us a bag, expressionless, and said nothing after we paid. Not impressed.

Diane M.

Yelp
We went twice, once we took it right home and the second time we ate some there and brought the rest home. The pies are delicious. I don't recall exactly the menu now because it's been a while since I was there. I neglected to write a review when it was fresh in my memory. All I know is it was good.

Fernando P.

Yelp
This place is amazing never had anything like it before will come back again soon love the aesthetic and the energy here
google avatar

Yelp
The best PIE in town!! I have to say that I am not a pie person, but I definitely fall in love of pie because of this store!! My favorite one is the pepper mint(limited edition for the holiday, I believe?) It's just so smooth, so pepper mint and so good!!!! The chocolate pie which called Smooth Operator. This one is their special. And it is the most smooth chocolate I ever tried!!! Order this one if you feel chocolate today! The last one I tried is the cranberry one, also for the holiday. This is a decent pie and fruity pie. You won't disappoint at all if you just want to some regular pie today!! The cranberry one is not too sweet! That's so good! The service is really good just like always. The store is located at McKinney downtown. Downtown area has a parking lot, so it is convenient. The store is kind of small, but dainty!! Love love love!!'

Yelp
Wonderful. Mouth watering! Whenever I think of a special event, I think of this place to go pick up some awesome pies I totally recommend it!
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
I did not care for the red velvet brownie pie. It did not seem fresh. The flavor was just meh. The staff was nice and the restroom clean. I just wished I had spent the calories on something else. This is just my opinion and your experience may be totally different.
google avatar

Charles D.

Yelp
After a nice dinner we opted to try this place out based on a recommendation. Boy we were not disappointed. 2 slices of pie please but boy you are spoiled for choice here. We had the key lime pie and some kind of chocolate one. I need to go back and try the other ones... blueberry, salted caramel, apple pie... Who's coming with me....
google avatar

Toni R.

Yelp
I've tried almost every flavor of Emporium Pies. I just don't get the appeal here. Their pie crust is terrible. Thick, heavy and not flaky whatsoever. The apple is impressive for the stature and size, but trying to cut through the tough crust is crazy and not how a homemade pie should taste. And the crumb topping is really bad as well. It has hard pieces of crumb that feel like you could break a tooth on. Coming from a family of excellent bakers, with flaky and flavorful pies? I just don't get it. My feeling is, there isn't any competition (pie shops) around that I know of and people don't know what a flaky crust and flavorful filling should taste like. I'm happy they are successful, nevertheless. It certainly doesn't measure up in my opinion, to what great pies should taste like. They're very expensive as well, however with the cost of ingredients, rent, employees? That part I understand.

Yelp
How on earth did I miss that there was an Emporium Pies in downtown McKinney?! This is both wonderful for me and also detrimental to my waistline. My husband and I will both tell you we are NOT pie people, blech, but Emporium Pies is not your typical pie - these are heavenly. The packaging is so darn cute you almost don't want to undo it and eat what's inside, but it is SO WORTH IT!! The crusts are always perfect and the filling is just right, they are always spot on. The portion size satisfies my sweet tooth while leaving me wanting more, which usually means we get a slice to go I've tried a couple and hands down my favorite is the Smooth Operator (pretzel crust + french silk chocolate) it truly melts in your mouth. Yes the cost is steep so this is a treat and not an everyday occurrencee BUT if you are going to spend more than $5 on dessert don't waste your time with a stupid cupcake, do yourself a favor and step into Emporium Pies and choose any piece they offer - it will SO be worth it!
google avatar

Greg L.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Emporium Pies. Have been eating them for years. However, we visited the McKinney location on Sat 2/19 and had a poor experience. There was a line to the door. Three people putting up glasses, taking out trash, handling pies, but no one taking orders. Took about 15 minutes after finishing chores when they decided to accept orders. When we receive our pie, it was missing half the crust. The crust is 50% of the pie. And at $7.00 per slice, I feel we we did not receive our complete pie. Very disappointing Emporium Pies. You can do better. I like the in person service again, but your previous walk up service was much better and consistent.
google avatar

Marium S.

Yelp
I mean when is emporium pies a bad decision? Super cute, staff is always friendly and of course I've never had a bad piece of pie befofe

Amira J.

Yelp
This place is good but a little over hyped. $9 for this slice. Seemed like the other choices were $8 and this seemed to be bigger. I do wish they warmed it up before serving. I ate a few bites when ordered and took the rest home. The next day I heated it up and it was perfect. Seemed like a caramel taste within the apple slices. If I come back, I'd definitely just share a piece.

Yelp
Only been here once, but all the pie flavors we bought were AMAZING. Very much homemade pie taste!

S H.

Yelp
Their pies are fancier than most. They taste great. They are a bit pricier so if you are looking for a deal - this is not the place for you.
