En Sushi - Review - West LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This West LA sushi spot has a modern space and a giant combination dinner involving eight different cuts of sashimi, one cut roll of your choosing, plus soup and salad all for under $20. Also, the place is full of attractive, single business people and that never hurts to see in the middle of a bad week." - Brant Cox

Google
Lunch special was wonderful! Came with sushi roll, sashimi, micro soup and salad. Staff was very friendly. It’s next door to MD massage so it’s wonderful to get sushi then a massage! Fish was fresh, as well as the avocado. Highly recommend this place one of my favorite sushi spots on the westside!

Google
En Sushi was great as per usual. We go here often and always have a great experience. Their lunch special is underrated. This place should be packed for lunch! Great staff, great food, the decor, the music… It’s perfect!

Jocelyn G.

Google
Their sashimi, rolls, miso soup, tempura, and seaweed salad were great. One of the better miso soups I had. Unfortunately their udon was pretty bad. The noodles were fine but the soup was terrible. They also didn’t have ramune which was a little disappointing. Their service could have been better. Although we were seated immediately, we had to ask for them to take our order and they took forever to give us the check. All in all, I would return, but I wouldn’t order the udon again. 7/10.

Google
The soy sauce is really tasty. The other dishes were not impressive. On the weekend the place is crowded it's a bit difficult to talk.

Google
Great sushi restaurant with lots of premium rolls and classic rolls. They have a good selection of lunch specials. I came with my family and they accommodated customizing many of the rolls there to our taste. I haven’t been for happy hour, but they have a full bar and happy hour specials as well.

Kameron K.

Google
En is a classic. I eat here during Happy Hour at least once a week! Incredible flavors and incredible staff. I’ve never had a roll like the Pokémon roll. Moving back to east coast and will be missing this place very much. Def worth a dine in!

Tracy B.

Google
Not only is the food always very good and fresh but the happy hour can't be beat. This has become the place for me and my friends for birthday celebrations. I really like the atmosphere and the staff is excellent especially Sarutta. this is already my second time here this week and I'll probably be here one more time if not more!

Golak N.

Google
En sushi is my go to spot for sushi in LA! First, they have an amazing happy hour menu that has both a lot of food and drink items for majorly discounted prices. I love to come here for date night, for lunch special during the day, and also bring the family for a fun night of great tasting sushi! Their Miso Soup is the best in the city- simple clean and so satisfying. The staff does such an amazing and welcoming job. From barbacks who are always smiling to sushi chefs, server and manager everyone is friendly and makes great recommendations. I come here once a week at s minimum and you should too, thanks en sushi west la for always leaving us full and happy.

Yelp
I think I've paid for at least one month of rent at this place at this point. I don't know how to describe this place other than it's a "vibe." Anytime my friends and I are trying to decide on a dinner spot this place gets suggested. Here's why: It's a nice spot close to where we live, it's great for big groups, and you never seem to need a reservation. There is a trick though: it has to be before 7pm. Their happy hour is the reason we end up choosing this place so often. You can get beers, appetizers, and whatever you want off the menu for a very fair price, and we always get all of the above. I will say, if you're going for straight up sushi there's other spots I might suggest. But if you're looking for a good time with some friends - this is the spot. One last confession - most of the time I don't get sushi. I always look at the sushi menu, but the bento box has steak, rice, salad, AND miso soup for like a little over $20. It's such a steal I almost always fold, even when I say, "I swear I'm getting sushi this time."

Yelp
Your average sushi. Food: Fish was decent, but the rice was not good. It felt as thought the rice was dry and old. Definitely not an authentic Japanese sushi place, so if that's what you're looking for, then this is not the place. For the price of each nigiri sushi, the quality was not up to par. On the other hand, they have a good lunch deal thats cheap and plentiful. Ambiance: Nice interior and spacious. Ample seating including booths. Parking: Limited parking behind the building (fits about 7 cars). Street metered parking in front of the restaurant. Service: Great! Super nice staff and quick service. Also came back frequently to refill drinks which I appreciated :) Overall, disappointed with the quality and taste of the sushi. But if you're looking for a cheaper lunch meal with average grade sushi, then you might want to hop into this restaurant!

Yelp
This place has a great happy hour (mon-fri 3-7 pm) and pretty good sushi. The place is nice and usually good crowd but not overly packed. The service is sooo quick. They attend to you quickly and bring out the food and drinks fast. And they ask if you want to order anything else before HH is over. There was one server (little older lady than the other servers) who was a bit snappy and rude with us a couple of times when she interacted with us, which was unnecessary, but other than that, everyone else was nice. We got the lychee martini which was yummy and strong, the the sunomono (didn't love but was okay), the crispy spicy tuna which was delicious and good portion, the rainbow roll - good, and the albacore jalapeno roll and asked for crispy onions on top - this was decent. All from the HH menu. Finished off with the fried banana ice cream dessert. I would say I've had better sushi living in LA obviously but I would definitely recommend this place as a local HH spot when you want pretty good sushi and want to keep it lowkey and don't want to break the bank.

Yelp
Excellent little sushi spot. Loved everything. Delicious cantaloupe soju drink as well. Friendly service. Nice casual ambience.

Yelp
En Sushi is one of a few sushi restaurants on this strip of Santa Monica Blvd. and my favorite for Happy Hour! They have a lot of great hand/cut roll, beer, and sake specials from 3-7pm daily. Their sushi is fine, I wouldn't say it's great or that it's super fresh, but it gets the job done when you want sushi and BAD Sushi is closed (Mondays and Tuesdays). I've had the Teriyaki Chicken too and it's also decent but along with soup or salad, it comes with diced potatoes, which I thought was...unconventional? In general, everything on the menu is a little overpriced for what it is if you come here when it's not Happy Hour, but definitely worth the trek if you can make it by 7.

Yelp
My new favorite sushi spot in my area. En Sushi is located on a blvd with lots of street parking. It's conveniently located and not hard to miss due to its location. Came here to enjoy their happy hour specials with my friend. I was pleasantly surprised at how extensive the happy hour meal was and everything all the menu that was included. When we first arrived, we were greeted by the friendly staff who gave us a rundown of the menu. We started off with lychee martini's, the beach sushi and the garlic albacore sashimi. Everything was delicious and came out pretty quickly. You can see the chef preparing the food which you can tell is handled with care. I loved the vibe of the restaurant! While it became busy, due to the restaurants spaciousness, we never felt crowded and had amazing seating.

Yelp
coming back to update my review to 5 stars. this has become a friday night neighborhood staple over the last 6 years i've lived here. my go tos are as follows (and no, i never NOT order these!): lychee martini - the best i've ever had! & yes, anytime i see a lychee martini elsewhere, i order it & it never compares to en sushi's. crispy rice spicy tuna roll - the tuna is always fresh, rice is always perfectly crispy, & the topping proportions are perf. sesame chicken - holy JUICYYY & flavorfullll. i love. only issue i have is when it burns my mouth when i dig in right away, but that's a personal problem. and all of these items are on their happy hour menu! food comes quick & the staff is always so friendly. sitting by the sushi bar is a vibe. must eat!!!

Eva J.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday night dinner and they were able to accommodate us immediately. I got the sushi dinner combo with a spicy tuna roll and it was great! Came with a delicious salad and miso soup. Very filling and affordable!

Yelp
Happy Hour is a fun time t Here. The trendy decor and teh lack of loud background music was appreciated. We had turns tatami salmon skin roll spicy tuna and yellow tail. Great service. Happy hour price menu is worth it.
google avatar

Pamela S.

Yelp
I've been here so many times and didn't realize I've never written a review. My favorite is the seared salmon sashimi. They have an extensive selection of cut rolls, but I noticed that many of them have California roll as the foundation, so it's kind of repetitive. Service here is consistently amazing! Super friendly and attentive people. Only minor gripe is that the TVs are pretty tiny and it's hard to watch a game here.
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
Subpar , spoiled sushi! I came for happy hour and ordered a couple of rolls. Two out of the four rolls has spoiled fish. I told the owner and he disagreed. Dont come here!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to En Sushi for more than 10 years. They have one of the best menus in town, if you go during happy hour-they have a lot of their house rolls and discounted drinks. My personal favorite app is their garlic edamame , it is a little spicy but not too much. they also have the best gyoza I've ever tried. For drinks you can't ever go wrong with a nice cold Sapporo, or if you want to try something new I recommend their LYCHEETINI lychee & vodka drink. My fave roll on their menu is the Rock En. The 911 is amazing if you want to try something spicy. if you want something fresh and light- the rainbow roll. When I ask for extra ginger they never disappoint and bring me a whole side plate full. Closer to the end of the week or during happy hour it can get packed, there's a reason for that, if you don't want to wait sit at the bar. There's street parking around, and a metered parking lot across the street!

Yelp
Came for happy hour and it was SO good. I'm surprised another guy was surprised that this place has great reviews because it absolutely deserves it! It was busy for New Year's Day! And learned they're open every day of the year but Super Bowl lol. When I'm not on dry January I'll be back to truly that pomegranate margarita! Lol. Garlic albacore sashimi and yuzu yellowtail were my favorites the fish quality was insane and my mouth is watering thinking about these dishes again. My daughter is 8 and always gets Cali roll with soy paper everywhere we go and this was excellent. I love getting jalapeño poppers (that are stuffed with raw tuna after cooking) but these are not and have fake crab, that would be my only wish for difference from what I ate. Lovely spicy mayo. Wonderful meal will definitely try other dishes next time.

Yelp
The late happy hour was a pleasant surprise. Staff was very nice, the fish was very fresh. Great experience overall! Thank you Jenny and Rodrigo!

Yelp

Yelp
It's been a while since I last came here and today I decided to drop by. The service is phenomenal, everyone was very attentive and kind. I arrived for happy hour and there's a lot to choose from but I ultimately decided on the crunch roll and albacore sushi. Both were amazing! Prices are fair and overall I enjoyed the food. Will come back soon!
google avatar

Armin C.

Yelp
Happy hour here is the way to go. The food is good, service staff is attentive. And the ambiance is sleek and stylistically pleasing.

Jenny R.

Yelp
Neighborhood spot, food is always amazing, Happy Hour is great and to top it off the staff is incredible and hilarious we love it here!

Yelp
I can't understand the high ratings for this place. I came here for happy hour. I had the spicy tuna crispy rice, fried chicken wings, albacore jalapeño roll, rainbow roll, and the salmon cucumber roll. All of the sushi was overly drenched in sauces to hide the poor quality. The only thing that was decent were the chicken wings, but it was paired with a hot sauce on the side that tasted like Red Rooster hot sauce which was odd since it made it taste like food from a southern restaurant. I wasn't expecting much with the prices being so affordable, but even with my lowered expectation, En Sushi didn't meet it. The service at En Sushi, however, is great. Our waitress was super nice and checked in on us a lot. Our drinks were always refilled before even having to ask. The restaurant was clean and huge with plenty of tables available.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place!!! Great happy hour and sushi! Get the lychee martini for happy hour as well as the crunch roll! This spot hold a special place in my heart. Will continue to come back but only for happy hour.
google avatar

Yelp
En Sushi is located on Santa Monica Blvd just west of the 405 and Sepulveda. The ambience is nice with darker lighting and comfy booths also with a large sushi bar all suitable for dates, special occasions. I visited at the late Happy Hour from 9-11(double check). The sushi yellowtail(Saba), rolls and tempura was excellent and above average for the tough sushi category. Prices were lower for above average value. NOTE: My handroll was so yummy I ordered another. Service could use some improvement but was decent. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Wayne L.

Yelp
Perfect experience. It was after lunch, so it was quiet and slow, and should always be busy. Music playing low but very peaceful. Very affordable for what you get on the lunch special. I felt like I was in a 5 star joint. Everything in the picture was included. You could go formal or casual here, awesome neighborhood and location. Splurge spot, try something new!

Will L.

Yelp
En sushi has the best happy hour in Sawtelle easily. Great service, exceptional yellowtail sushi, amazing blue fin for $8, and the server Jenny is my GOAT. She gave us a free nigiri and was so kind.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We were looking for a later Sunday night sushi dinner and found En Sushi online. Their phone isn't set-up so we took a chance and we are so glad we did!! From the minute we walked in the door, everyone working there was super friendly! The restaurant is much bigger than expected with lots of seating options and very modern and updated. You can watch football at the bar, grab a booth or large table, or chat with the chefs at the sushi bar. They have a full bar and all of the sushi we ordered were phenomenal! My favorites were the yellowtail and sea bream sashimis. All of the sushi was perfectly cut and nice thick pieces. For drinks, I started with the Lycheetini which was very tasty and then switched to a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, a very generous pour. They also play great music! Loved it here and will definitely be back next time we're in the area!!
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
En has good sushi that satisfies your palette. The inside vibe is moody and cool, a perfect date spot. There are lots of roll options and the fish is relatively fresh. My one qualm is the price- I think it could be higher quality for how expensive it is.

Paul L.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent!!! The happy hour prices are a bargain. The quality was great
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I've stopped in several times for a late night dinner or midday lunch snack and each time has been fantastic. They have a great affordable happy hour that can't be beat. The ambiance inside is peaceful and the space feels very elevated. The staff are lovely and very attentive. The spicy crispy tuna is one of my favorite bites and their Viva Vega rolls was incredibly generous and tasty. Definitely a go-to spot for me!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
Garlic edamame was a little spicy that wasn't expected but very tasty! Lychee Martini was great! Chicken teriyaki was a large portion with tasty crispy potato chunks. Pomegranate margaritas were okay and hot sake was consistent. Quick service, decent portions and good value for the prices! Happy hour menu had a good variety of items to choose from as well! Will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
My family was visiting me last week and I told them about this place right down the street from me. I remember seeing the sign of late night happy hour in the window so I suggested we go. Late night happy hour starts I believe at 9pm. I believe they have regular happy hour 3pm-7pm which is awesome. The host got us seated at a booth and we were greeted quickly by our very nice server. We ordered some drinks and the bartender came over to us ask our preference of liquor for the cocktails. We got to talking to him and he's this really awesome dude named David. We ordered a variety of food from the happy hour menu and everything was super tasty. The restaurant itself has cool darker decor inside. The bar area seems like a nice spot and they have a tv there. We had such a great experience we went back the next night. I highly recommend checking this place out!!
google avatar

Jojo H.

Yelp
We are visiting from Nor Cal, our son lives local and took us here. This please is absolutely a fun place to go esp at night. Happy Hour is so fun. The nigiri is so good and buttery. Gyoza is fresh and too good. Great service, David is the best.
google avatar

Tara M.

Yelp
En Sushi is a hidden gem--super fresh fish, beautifully plated dishes, and great service. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Always a reliable go-to for quality sushi!
google avatar

Yelp
Oh man, This place Is FIRE. If you like Sushi like me, you should try out En Sushi in the Santa Monica area. We ordered the Crispy Rice Tuna Rolls, and they are spicy good, with a little twist to them. Large restaurant with great menu orders. The service is good. What more could i ask for?
google avatar

Kendall C.

Yelp
unbelievable happy hour!! everything under $14 and portions are BIG! this is my new favorite quick stop sushi place. the crispy rice is HUGE and so tasty.
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
The food was alright but because of the location, prices were high and servings were small. My sushi rolls were measly. I'd rather drive a bit farther and have better portions. We also ordered an udon soup and the flavor was quite lacking. Ordered for take out so I can't speak on the service.
google avatar

Shelly S.

Yelp
This spot has a pretty decent happy hour. $1.99 hot sake and rolls/sashimi ranging from $6.00-$14.50. Some of the rolls, like the Melo was had more fish/meat. I would recommend this spot if you're in the areas It can get a little bit more busy towards the end of happy hour so keep that in mind. Street parking only.

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
EVERYTHING Fresh fish, waitresses, (especially Jenny) sushi chefs, and atmosphere! Don't forget about the happy hours 3-7pm best secret sushi place in west LA!

Quila D.

Yelp
One of my favorite sushi spots! The David-style salmon is a must-try--perfectly seasoned and melts in your mouth. All the fish was incredibly fresh, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. They took the time to explain some of the menu items and made great recommendations. Also, their happy hour from 3 to 7 is such a great deal--high-quality sushi at a super affordable price. If you're a sushi lover, this place is definitely worth checking out. I'll absolutely be back!

Evan S.

Yelp
I love this place so much. En is legit my favorite sushi place in LA. So underrated. Fantastic happy hour. Everyone that works here is super chill. HIGHLY recommend.
google avatar

chris q.

Yelp
I wish I came here sooner. There are a lot of sushi places in this area and this one is larger on the inside than you might expect. The 3 of us went, without a reservation and were seated immediately. I would recommend a reservation because this place was completely full before we left. The food was out of this world and the service was great. They have a happy hour menu that allowed us to feed 3 people for $108 (no alcohol) and the selection was remarkable. There were a couple non-sushi items on the menu that were surprisingly good like the fish tacos. You can't go wrong with the sushi though.

Connor P.

Yelp
#1 in Sawtelle! Loved dining during happy hour, if you go, ask for Jenny as your server.

Yelp
Last night for dinner my sister and I wanted reeeally good sushi while my mom wanted classic tempura and chicken teriyaki, and that's how we ended up at En Sushi. I am hesitant about sushi restaurant that also serves hot entrees, having been accustomed to the minimalist fish-forward menus common at many high-end sushi places. But En Sushi hit the mark in flavor, quality, presentation, service, speed, and atmosphere. The unpretentious dim lighting and roomy leather booths were reminiscent of the restaurants of my youth (Chin Chin, CPK, PF Chang's) and a nice break from the sterile minimalist seating at many modern sushi establishments. It was just so cozy and comfortable. We ordered: Mixed tempura - came piping hot and included a large shitake mushroom cap which was unusual and delicious Spicy tuna on crispy rice - simple and yummy, tuna had great flavor James Bond roll with spicy albacore and shrimp tempura-- another fresh and tasty roll presented beautifully. we added crispy onion on top Baked scallop roll - not my thing, but my sister loved it Chicken teriyaki entrée -- Generous portion of tender juicy thigh meat, big golden crispy potatoes, the tastiest miso soup ever according to my mom, and a healthy portion of salad with a light sesame ginger dressing-- plus rice and steamed broccoli. Easily enough for 2 full dinners. Green tea -- Clearly a high-quality matcha with a delicious toasty flavor, served in a very cute cup Hot filtered sake -- can't go wrong The food came out so quickly and we were well-attended to, and the $106 total felt appropriate for the amount of food ordered. One of the bussing staff took care taking a few photos of us on the way out which was very sweet. It was just the perfect spot for a Sunday night dinner with mom and sis. Can't wait to go back again and again and again!

Lori C.

Yelp
Both food & service were great! Nick had the perfect recommendations. I highly recommend. Also good fr take out.

Yelp
Not the worst meal I've ever had but, for the prices they charge, it's a 1/10. First, I need to say that the service was genuinely bad and the rice was bad as well (which is a problem at a sushi restaurant where most bites are accompanied by rice - it was overcooked and soggy with every dish) More on service: no server checked on us at any point without us flagging them, and they kept trying to clear plates with food still on them (we dined quickly too, 1 hr for the whole experience) No water until we called someone over to ask for it halfway through the meal and each time we requested napkins or anything, they seemed to walk away briskly annoyed We ordered the: spicy tuna crispy rice: good Veggie tempura: bad- gigantic vegetable slices and flavorless tempura California roll- bad - super sweet, all mayo, rolled badly too/ falling apart Shrimp tempura roll - ok, huge, sloppy, and difficult to eat but flavor was ok Cucumber cut roll- bad- this is usually one of my favorite things to order but somehow the seaweed was tough and the rolls were all soggy rice, barely any cucumber Garlic edamame: great Tamago nigiri - bad - egg tasted old / sitting for quite some time Overall, very disappointing experience (especially given that I saw four stars on Yelp) We will not be coming back and I want to let other people know that the four star average review is not accurate.

Josh S.

Yelp
I am a frequent customer (or was.) Went today and had the worst service from jane yu and staff. Cant emphasize more just how bad jane yu was. Waited over 40mins for 3 final orders of sushi at the end of a large and poorly waited meal only to pay 20% tip for a party of six. Whole order was over $290 and left beyond upset with the service and staff. I will never return and I was someone who came twice a month and $300 or more per visit. Beyond disgusted at the rudeness of behavior and nerve to charge me 20% after they did absolutely zero service besides their busboys who are good.

Yelp
When the Backhouse on Pico closed I was devastated- I no longer had a go to sushi place on the west side!! But then I found En and I could rest easy once again. This place is consistent which is truly the number one thing I'm looking for in a neighborhood sushi restaurant. My typical go to order consists of the 911 roll, crispy onion albacore, beach salmon, crispy rice with spicy tuna & the spicy yellowtail sashimi. I usually get take out and each dish comes packaged perfectly with its sauce, and actually enough sauce (a lot of places slack on that front!) and the quality is always spot on. Also I have eaten inside the restaurant and it's cute with comfortable booths and good, attentive service. Plus the prices are totally reasonable especially for the area and the level of quality that you're getting. Still need to try out their happy hour though!

E D.

Yelp
I've been coming here for over ten years and have always enjoyed the food. Every now and then, I stop by for happy hour after getting my nails done at a nearby salon. I usually order the same thing--the Crunch Roll--which never disappoints. The Hungry Cali Roll is also a solid choice.
google avatar

Andie B.

Yelp
Slow service but very courteous. Happy Hour for the food (and drinks). Happy Hour is everyday even weekends. Isn't that fantastic?! Everything was delicious but the Salmon Carpaccio stood out. Carpaccio is like sashimi but larger cuts. Restrooms were clean.

Yelp
Great Sushi, great happy hour, $1.99 Saki, A+ I recommend the fried spicy tuna. Could be my new place.
