Tatte Bakery to Double Locations, Including Expansion to D.C. | Eater Boston

"I've been following Gen Sou En Tea House, open since February, which is temporarily closed for a revamp to shift its focus away from casual cafe service (though not entirely) toward full-service lunch and dinner with reservations accepted; there will still be a little bit of seating for quick-service cafe fare, and it’s expected to reopen in early November after renovations." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

The whole vibe is mind-calming but slightly surreal; the dark room, dramatic spot lighting, and those slow-drip glass towers make it feel like a sci-fi tea lab crossed with a meditation chamber. Calming, photogenic, and honestly one of the cooler tea experiences you’ll find in Japan.

It’s a small tea house in the teamLab experience that is definitely worth checking out. You have to line up and order and pay at the counter and the server will guide you to a designated spot. So if you want to sit together, make sure to go in at the same time. I ordered the yuzu green tea with yuzu matcha ice cream. They were both really good but what really elevated the experience was the projections on the food. It was something that I’ve never seen before and is worth the higher price tag. If you visit teamLab Borderless, I recommend it.

The tea wasn't amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but the experience itself was great. If you went to the Odaiba location, this is exactly the same. The lights will follow your tea around - it's so cool. After a while, the lights will stop. I guess that's to prevent people from staying for too long. If you go to teamLab, definitely do this if you have a chance - it's super fun.

I’m not a G.

Google
This is in the border less exhibit as the experience of drinking your tea is also a borderless experience. You have to go to the end and find the tea house and order your tea, it actually is fairly priced too. They’ll give you your leaves and tell you to wait until you’re seated. Try it out!! It’s pretty cool what happens to your tea.

I did not have high hopes but the barley tea was so good. I had hopes from the matcha gelato but not the tea so was pleasantly surprised. The projection experience just made it all the more memorable. If you have time I’d recommend.

Google
Tea is ok but the experience itself is incomparable! Initially we thought it uses some temperature detection but then realized you can order either cold or hot drinks. We also thought that the position of the flower was fixed but then the flower would just appear anywhere your teacup is - even if your teacup is not placed on the table. Also if you want your photos to look nicer then don’t order tea latte like me lol.

Google
Badass experience, especially if you bring little ones. The tea is amazing and a memorable event!

Google
Beautiful experience. There was no wait and the drinks were great. Everything was reasonably priced with the added fun of blooming flowers!

Yelp
If you're in teamLab Borderless, you have to try En Tea House out. A projector starts projecting blooming flowers when your selected tea is placed on the table. I don't remember what we got but it was pretty good. I do remember regretting not getting the ice cream set which looked really good. At best, you should do the En Tea House add on when you book your Borderless tickets.

Yelp
Ordered the yuzu sorbet and the barley rice milk latte. When the drink and sorbet is served, floral projections show up depending on where you place your items. The sorbet was refreshing and watching the projections on the table was the highlight of the experience. Parties of 3 or more may have to split up as seating is arranged in a single rows and may increase your wait times otherwise.

Yelp
The Matcha Yuzu Gelato was excellent--probably my favorite. The balance between the earthy matcha and the citrusy brightness of yuzu was spot on, making it refreshing yet still rich. I really enjoyed this one and would definitely come back for it. On the other hand, the Green Tea Cold Brew leaned much more to the bitter side. It's definitely for those who appreciate a strong, unsweetened tea profile. Not bad, but a bit intense if you're expecting something smoother. What really enhanced the visit, though, was the atmosphere--fun, interactive, and engaging, which made the whole experience feel more memorable beyond just the drinks.

Yelp
You gotta experience it yourself. Well worth it! Excellent service. It's like living in a magical world.

Yelp
Incredible experience, you must do this if you go to TeamLab Borderless! I was parched by the time I reached the tea house so this was a must. $5 for a cup of tea, but it's hands down the most beautiful cup of tea you will ever drink. Also, note that you must order a cup of tea to enjoy the art. We wanted to order 2 cups but seat 4 and they wouldn't let us. Your tea blossoms with flower lights and effects when your served and interacts with you, for about 20-30 minutes. Ice cream art lasted longer. The ice cream comes with a cup of tea. It's $12 but it's super neat to see because the art expands much further than the tea does. Each type of tea has a different digital flower/blossom. Move your cup around once you get it! Would recommend to enhance your Borderless experience!

Yelp
Fantastic tea cafe experience inside teamLab Borderless! Worth the $5 to rejuvenate yourself during the middle of your time at teamLab. Unfortunately, the tea house closed along with Borderless at the end of August 2022, but should hopefully reopen in a different part of Tokyo at the end of 2023.

Yelp
Bringing your kids to TeamLab Borderless in Odaiba must be one of the most tiring experiences a parent can go through maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but us three dads in the party all agreed, and we were relieved to find this small cafe inside the facility. We took turns with the wives, who got to go first. Finally our turn arrived and we gladly waited in yet another line, but this time at least some refreshments and CHAIRS were waiting for us. Yes, there's nowhere to sit down throughout the facility, I think they designed Teamlab as a torturing mechanism for parents. Anyway, we all order the ice cream set and we finally sit down. The room is dark with digital art projected on the walls. They bring us our dessert and tea, and as soon as they put it on the table, some digital art comes out of both the ice cream and tea. Pretty amazing! If you move the cups the digital art follows. The ice cream itself is very good and the tea (I got some green tea with yuzu) is ok. Overall a cute experience and a much needed moment of rest.

Yelp
If you managed to get tickets for Odaiba's TeamLab experience, then visiting En Tea House is a must! It's located near the Athletic Forest portion of the exhibit and it does get pretty busy, as they have to allocate a significant amount of space for each patron. There is a small selection of teas you can choose from. It mainly consists of hot/cold green teas, lattes, and matcha ice cream. All of the drinks will "bloom" inside the tea house and the ice cream will "grow" vines. If you want the full experience, I highly recommend ordering both! The actual selection of tea is fairly small, but the idea here is to enjoy the digital art while enjoying a beverage. We ordered the Green Tea with Yuzu (cold) and the Roasted Green Tea Chamomile Latte (hot). All drinks are ¥500 each. I really enjoy the efficiency of the "order first" concept, because once you are seated, your drinks arrive momentarily. The projector sensors automatically pick up when a beverage has been placed in front of you and will automatically begin projecting flowers. Each seat has a different projector, so this way there is a lot of variety. Once you lift your drink off the table, the flowers will scatter. I think its a great experience for those who are trying to get away from the crowds inside Team Lab and especially all the children (there is always a large crowd in the Athletic Forest). I also suggest taking a couple of pictures and then putting your phone away to enjoy the art. Regardless, the phones cannot capture how beautiful the experience is. Overall, a wonderful idea, I just wish there was more variety in the drinks selection and maybe a couple of desserts (aside from the matcha ice cream).

Yelp
TLDR; an extra exhibit inside teamLab Borderless where you can drink tea and interact with the digital art. On top of everything that's already included with your ticket, there's one more exhibit that you'll have to pay extra to get in. This tea house incorporates art into your tea drinking experience and it was pretty cool! For 500 yen, you can choose one of four kinds of tea. I picked the cold brew green tea. The hostess at the front explains everything to you and then hands you a sampling of tea leaves based off of what you ordered. You use that to give to the servers inside so they know what you ordered. It was pretty empty inside, I guess not a lot of people knew about it or didn't want to pay extra money on top of their ticket. It was easy to find a completely empty spot to sit down. Once the waiter pours the tea, sit back and enjoy watching the artwork unfold. We probably sat there for about 20 minutes just slowly sipping the tea and playing around with the art. It's a plus that the tea wasn't bad! Very refreshing. If you have the time, might as well check it out. It's pretty cool how they get the art to work with your tea...we couldn't figure out how it interacts. Not a necessary stop but it's worthwhile.
