Uh where do I start. This is a lounge located inside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. It is not open all day, just in the evening. It is a great stop if you are doing the monorail bar crawl. It was the last stop, stop #5 for us. I have wanted to come here for so long and was kinda sad. I have to go again because from what I have heard, we missed out. You do not need a reservation; you might have to wait if it is busy. If you cannot park at the hotel, then you can park at the TTC and take the monorail over.
We waited about 10 minutes for a table and then were seated outside. First bummer. I should have spoken up, but at first glance it had a beautiful view. Which is did, the water, the resort, the pool and Magic Kingdom off in the back. But it is Florida, it was hot and humid, and the lounge is inside. We missed the whole experience.
Our server, second bummer. She was nice but took forever to bring everything. Even water. She did not explain anything when it came and the menu was not descriptive either. This is mainly in reference to the artisanal cheese selection. It states 4 chef selected tasting potions. What were they? No idea! I would have liked to know what I was eating. She was just very slow to bring everything and never really checked on us, brought more water or even asked if we wanted a second drink.
The drinks and food were very good. There menu is actually very large for being a lounge. They have a few snacks that start at 330pm and then some that are available after 5pm. The after 5pm are more cooked items and some really good options. We had the cheese selection; it was good but the cheese I was disappointed with. All 4 pieces felt like they cut the rind and that is all we got. It was very hard to bite into except for some blue cheese. Again, I assume it was blue cheese but who knows. Our friend ordered the truffle fries, and these were so good!!! Loved them. I also wanted to try the croquettes and flatbread but maybe next time.
Their drink list is pretty big as well, beer, wine standard but then specialty cocktails. This is why you go! My husband ordered the old fashion, he likes strong drinks, but they also have a seasonal old fashion for a few dollars more. The old fashion has Woodford bourbon, orange, sugar and bitters. Our friend ordered a mojito which she did not like, she didnt like the taste of the rum and she could really taste it. I went with the Espresso Martini. These are my favorite! But had she asked if we wanted a second drink, I was also interested in the Lavender Fog, which has gin, creme de Violette, breakfast tea, vanilla and cream. It just looked so pretty. The French 75 also was intriguing since it has my favorite Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
These drinks are expensive, they are more than any other Disney lounge or bar. To not have the experience we expected and pay the price we did, we were disappointed. However, I am willing to go again and give it a better chance. I will ask for inside this time. I would recommend it we just didn't have the best experience this time. Hopefully next time will be better.
