The Best Places for Afternoon Tea in and Around Phoenix

"Whimsical and wonderfully British, the English Rose Tea Room is where kitsch meets class. Diners can don feather boas and hats while sipping from an extensive tea menu of more than 40 options. The $40 Formal Afternoon Tea includes all the classics: finger sandwiches with flavors like chicken salad, cucumber with creamed feta, and salmon and cream cheese (gluten-free options are available); vanilla scones with strawberry preserves, lemon curd, and Devonshire cream; and a selection of petit fours served on a three-tiered tray. Bonus points for its year-round themed events, from live music to festive holiday teas. It’s over-the-top but keeps the experience charming." - Mcconnell Quinn

Beautifully decorated. I loved all the different prints on the dishes. The apricot tea was delish. It was neat that everyone received their own pot of tea. It was nice and shaded outside, but for cooler weather they had heaters. They really know how to make you feel special.

Google
Went for a special tea event and it was fantastic. Everyone was dressed up! Tea had many options to choose from and each of us liked our choices. The Chai was popular with the group. I enjoyed the Paris. All the food was delicious, I wish I had room for another scone. Would highly recommend them for a fun afternoon.

I came here for my birthday with my girlfriend, and it was just a dream. I wanted to just wrap it all up and take it home. Everything was beautiful! And reasonably priced. I wish it was closer to Mesa. I’d go more often. The owner is very kind and friendly. The servers as well. I felt like a princess. I smiled the entire time!

I absolutely loved this place. I got the afternoon tea with the London Fog and it was just delicious. I will definitely be back!

Google
What a quaint little place and decorated beautifully, food was delicious with a nice presentation. Wish the coffee was a priced lower because I'm not a tea drinker, but at $7 not me. Staff is so nice and friendly and hats are available for use if you forget yours. Friends brought us here and we had a very nice time and will bring our friends here at a later time.

Brought my 5YO daughter and she had a great time. There was plenty of food included in the $40/child price. The decor was beautiful and they even had some stylish hats that you can borrow for dress-up. Elsa met each child for pictures and she sang 2 beautiful songs.

Google
Atmosphere and decor was fun and on point. The service was exceptional and very welcoming. The food was just okay. Nothing exceptional. We had the tea tray with tea sandwich’s which were very plain and not much filling or flavor, scones (biscuits) were good but not great. The sweets were okay. My friend said the parfait was delicious and I thought the macarons were too too sweet although cooked well.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our visit to the English tea room! The decor is so beautiful and everything you would want when having a tea party! Our server was so helpful (Elena) and made sure we knew what items our friends in the group with allergies could have. She was very attentive and so kind! The tea was delicious. I have peach and ginger, which was so good! The deserts were amazing and I loved the scones with jam! Perfect spot for a shower, get together or party!

Yelp
What a charming spot! We were in town for a retreat within walking distance and I had found this spot on Yelp. We wanted to check it out but kept forgetting to call for a reservation. (Note you do those online now here!) I knew chances of our group of 4 getting a table on a busy Saturday was slim, but we stopped in early to ask and were told often the reservations are done 1-2 months in advance and they were fully booked. But if there was a cancellation we could get in. When we came back later it was closer to closing but they had a con cellar ion and we got a table! (Which they didn't have to tell us or give us as it was late, so extra points for kind and gracious hosts!) The interior is amazingly cute and the ideal dram of a tea room I all pinks and sparkles and fun decor. The tables are smaller for a cozy tea but also can be put together for a party. The menu is amazing but we came for cream tea. Their tea options are amazing as well with lots of great caffeine free, herbal and black/green options. With a cream tea you get two scones and a pot of tea, so we split two orders and had plenty. They also do gluten free scones! Amazing! It was a delightful time with friends I haven't seen in years, and a great way to make a memory and celebrate friendship. I highly recommend coming in for a pot of tea and a fun experience!

Yelp
Always a nice place to enjoy tea, scones, lovely atmosphere and company. Service staff is courtesy with just enough interaction. Knowledgeable and friendly. Tea choices are numerous and delightful.

Yelp
We had an amazing experience here today!! Booking was easy and prices were very reasonable! Elena our waitress was lovely and so kind and accommodating for our allergies. The ambiance is GORGEOUS and we loved our tea! The food was yummy and we will definitely be back. We had a party of 7 and I booked about a month in advance. It was very busy. A great spot for any occasion!

Yelp
The food is delicious and the atmosphere makes everything special. I really liked the hat basket and picked one out to really be fancy. Going to take my granddaughters again in a few weeks, can't wait, they are so excited and already have their fancy dresses picked out. Highly recommend service is exceptional. Great high tea vibe.

Yelp
This place is so cute, honestly if you can try to make a reservation inside because it's so cute! The outside is cute too and when the weather is nice, it's refreshing. Overall our service was so friendly and allowed us to switch the salmon for the chicken. The food was fresh and tasty. Not the best food flavors but it is an experience and everything was ok. I really enjoyed the scone and berry chocolate dessert. There are so many tea options here as well which is such a plus! I'd suggest coming here for an occasion as well to get dressed up for.

Yelp
We always return as it is a proper, lovely tea room and carefree, too! (If you can't remember the location, read my review!)

Yelp
Lovely experience at this delightful tea house. Brought my daughter and granddaughter to celebrate a birthday. Teas were deliciouses, they accommodated my daughter's needs for her but allergy and my girls enjoyed most everything presented. It was sweet to be able to have a child's tea option geared toward young guests. Love the gift shop area and all of the floral decor. Perfect for pictures anywhere and everywhere.

Yelp
I'm a true sinensophile and I declare this charming tea room one of the best I've ever visited! Even before you enter the threshold, you get the feeling you're in for a transformative experience! Outside is an English telephone box filled with British memorabilia along with flowers, and outdoor seating area, and gorgeous decor. Inside is like walking into another world! The "photo wall" filled with flowers is irresistible! They teapots at the gift shop are lovely and I had to have one, even though I wanted to take them all home with me! My friend and I came here, she surprised me, and the whole experience was as "carefree" as the town! The food was amazing and we devoured every morsel! Every detail was perfectly thought out and we loved the Queen wall, the huge lighted tree in the center of the room, the clever signage, the furniture and table settings, and truly just each detail! The tiered tray came out quickly and filled with delicious tea sandwiches and treats! The staff was friendly and efficient! One of my favorite tearooms of all time!!

Yelp
I adore this tea house! My family has been coming here for years and you can tell that they are always improving without compromising their quality and great vibes. The food is awesome! The scones are great but even every tea sandwich and dessert tastes amazing. Nothing feels straight out of a package, but instead fresh and tasty! And the service is always wonderful too! We will continue to come back for a formal afternoon tea again and again, even though it is a long drive for us.

Yelp
My sister and I are so incredibly thankful to have found this cute little tea spot. We originally booked at a place in Tempe and then it got cancelled due to some lawsuit. So we did some google searching and yelp review reading and came across this tea room. We booked online and it was super easy. Make sure that if you are booking online and want to be inside, to pick standard. There was a review that stated that if you do it online you only get outdoors and that's not accurate. You have to look at what you picked at reservation. We got there about 15 minutes before our scheduled time and was just floored by the decoration. From all the florals outside to the Photo Booth and the teapots inside, it was like you were transported to England! My sister did a an afternoon tea in London so she had high hopes and was not disappointed at this. The women that served us was so kind and sweet and attentive. We ordered the $40 afternoon tea and it was absolutely delicious. If you go for a little snack it is very filling. We shared the one sandwich tower with scones and dessert as well. We ordered more sandwiches and another pot of tea. The additional sandwiches we ordered we wanted to take home for later cause it was so darn delicious! Also, the scones were perfectly flavored along with the butter and curd and jam. The dessert was ok but I'm not a macaroon fan but the cake and chocolate strawberry was delightful. The lavender shortbread was too much lavender that it felt like I was eating a lotion but it didn't not sour the experience at all. Also, their bathroom is so cute! Lots of photo ops for sure! We will be back!

Yelp
We made reservations for Holiday tea. It was a pretty tea room it was a bit chilly we sat indoors. They take reservations and they let us pick our table location. Everything about this tea room is magical. Our server was sweet and able to guide us to favorite menu items.

Yelp
I loved this place. THIS IS RESERVATION ONLY. I went for my birthday and I specifically wanted an afternoon tea experience. We were staying in Scottsdale and when I did the research, this place was just a straight shot up the road and it was more traditional opposed to competitive experiences that were taking a boozy, modern take. The drive up was really enjoyable. Yes, it's a bit away but traffic in a Sunday morning was calm and slow and it was very scenic. I chose 10:30am which was their opening time and by the time we walked it, people were already being seated. There are about 8 table seatings inside and about the same outside. It's a little bit kitschy in its esthetic but I actually really liked it. Roses and birds and the queen Elizabeth everywhere. We ordered the afternoon tea special and they stopped me from ordering 2 servings because it's enough for 2 people. And they were right. It was filling for both of us. I also picked this place because it also had other food other than the afternoon tea in case my boyfriend was still hungry. The tea was great and they had a large selection, and every part of the food was homemade and fantastic. I wasn't sure if this would be too "girly" or "silly" for my boyfriend but he really enjoyed himself and would gladly come back with me. Highly recommend!! If you want a more traditional feeling experience I for sure recommend here.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere. Went for Nana's birthday celebration. Server was very pleasant. Food was average. Teas were delightful.

Yelp
My absolute favorite place for high tea and now it's even easier to make a reservation online instead of phone tag! My girlfriends and I have been coming here for years. We've hit all the tea spots in the valley and the English Rose always comes out on top for me because of the incredible gluten free high tea offering. You get everything the non GF people get so you aren't missing anything. My favorite tea is Paris and I always try and snag a tin of it to take home (it sells out though!). The tea sandwiches are perfect, followed by the most delicious scone. Ask for the lemon curd to go with the clotted cream. By the time you make it to the top of the tower you'll probably be stuffed- recommend you order a few scones to take with you along with the goodies you're too full to eat! Bring your camera- Jo has the cutest photo walls and you'll want to remember all of the cute detail inside and out. There are also cute gifts, tea, cards, etc. to buy and every once in a while a sidewalk sale of old tea sets/cups/saucers. Last tip: try the tea your server recommends- they're never wrong.

Yelp
It's like a unicorn exploded inside. The servers and every surface follow the theme. I was the only guy there and only felt slightly out of place. We had the afternoon tea, and it was enough for 2. It's everything you expect from an afternoon tea. For those not in the know, it's small sandwiches, scones, and deserts, and of course tea. Not being a fan of hot tea, I enjoyed their tasty Arnold Palmer with their fruit tea and housemate lemonade. If you know a special lady in your life that has a unicorn living in their head, stop here and blow her mind.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite spots in AZ. I'm a musician, and I had a residency performing at English Rose Tea Room every Friday for almost a year. In my time there, I met the most attentive employees, witnessed the most joyful gatherings, and discovered my favorite teas that I still return to purchase (rose black tea and wedding tea are the best!). Not to mention, it has one of the most positive atmospheres I've seen anywhere in Carefree. Three important notes: 1) There are many gluten free options, including the tiered trays of treats. As someone with Celiac, I've been so grateful for the options. 2) If you're not a fan of tea, there is definitely something else here for you, whether that's hot chocolate, coffee, or a children's tea with honey! 3) ALWAYS make a reservation if you can. This is a VERY adored spot and often completely full, especially on weekends.

Yelp
This is the cutest tea shop! It is decorated to the max for Christmas- such good photos. The food choices were great and a nice tea selection. Make reservations in advance!

Yelp
The most amazing time for Mother's Day! I cannot tell you how much fun my Child and I had having tea there. We went for afternoon tea. We had great friendly customer service very attentive. It's in the middle of the mountains in carefree Arizona and it's absolutely a great drive. You have to try it out for yourself. The tea was delicious. The scones were delicious. The strawberry preserve was my favorite with the scone mix with the cream, it was all perfect. You definitely have to come out and try it. Not just for Mother's Day. Just nice afternoon with your favorite person.!!!

Yelp
As we pulled up in the car, we could see all the decor from the street. We had come for the Bridgerton tea party. Omg, I LOVE the show (watched the first and second season MULTIPLE times hehe) When we walked in, beautiful decor, bridgerton sound track playing and all the staff, Sir Reginald (Gary), and the owner Ms. Joe dressed from head to toe in Victorian era dresses, it was marvelous. Gary, had a great accent, great energy, and SUCH a pleasure to speak with. Ms. Joe was SUPER down to earth, friendly, and just seemed like such a pleasure. All the ladies on staff were very kind and helpful, the yo attending our table checked in ample amount of times (not too much either, it was perfect). I never had to wait for anything. My favorite food item on the platter was the Vanilla scone, the cheddar broccoli quiche, and the actual tea itself (my bestfriend recommended the Paris tea and I loved it, then our waiter recommended the Green Tea with Mango). I don't believe I have EVER put cream/milk and a sugar cube in my tea before, I felt so classy. Overall, great experience... oh yes, and it included a 7-10 minute ride around the area in a carriage led by 2 ladies and two horses. THANK YOU Ms. Joe for a very splendid tea party soirée ! 10/10 would recommend! (Visited Saturday 10/19/2024)

Yelp
Absolutely loved this cute, charming and lovely tea room. To say it's very girly would be an understatement. Flowers, pink decorations, and tea pots everywhere you look. So you are welcome to borrow one of their many fun hats while you are there. It's so much fun to try on the large fabulous hats. We chose the high tea lunch which was perfect portion for 2 ladies. It came with some sandwiches like cucumber and salmon, some absolutely delicious scones and a tasty raspberry tea. I seriously can't wait to return! Lots of photo ops.

Yelp
This place is so cute. We came here once for a birthday and again today for a family afternoon tea. The afternoon tea is beautifully presented. There are 3 small sandwiches, scones and an assortment of sweets for $40. This includes a small pot of tea. The service was friendly and quick. Overall, a nice experience and we will be back to bring friends and family visiting from out of town.

Yelp
I absolutely loved tea time here! The aesthetic is adorable, they have a robust selection of teas to choose from. The service was friendly and the tower was delicious and actually really filling. After leaving, the surrounding businesses were fun to explore. I definitely recommend checking English Rose Tea House. It's a great place for birthdays of all ages and a super cute date/friend date idea.

Anandi R.

Yelp
My teen had her birthday party here with 4 friends and it was delightful. They were treated really well, even though they didn't have an adult seated with them, and because they had a later reservation outside, were able to stay a little longer than we had originally planned. They absolutely enjoyed the food and the over-the-top tea time floral decor. It was such an easy way to host a party - we didn't have to do anything except make the reservation. The kids wore dresses and suits and fit right in! It had such a fun atmosphere and cute spots for photo ops. The patio is adorable and in late September was fully shaded and comfortable even in the late afternoon. Highly recommend for a special event. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
This quaint tea room is a great place to enjoy tea and visit with your friends. I had the salmon quiche and the lavender tea it was positively divine. Next time I will order full tea service.
google avatar

Keegan D.

Yelp
I want to update that the owner Jo did reach out personally and make the situation right! She emphasized that her establishment should be a safe space for women of all kinds, and her taking the time to do that and make sure our concerns were addressed goes a long way.
google avatar

Yelp
One of my Favorite places for ladies lunch or Tea!! Fabulous service with attention to every detail! Delicious food options and many different teas for you! Darling atmosphere! It's always a pleasure to support this establishment!!

Yelp
Lovely place and lovely experience, I came with a group of young girls and we had a fabulous time.

Yelp
What a gem this place is! It is such a cute, instagramy place. It's pink, flowers, and fine china everywhere! The customer service was excellent. Everyone was so friendly. The menu is small, but it goes so well with tea! I had the tomato basil soup which was so creamy and flavorful. I also had the sandwiches with were a chicken salad, cucumber, and salmon. The chicken salad was great and with not too much celery which some do. The cucumber was such a nice palate cleanser. I actually don't like salmon but the salmon cream cheese was excellent. We had the Paris tea & I can't wait to be back to try more.

Sydney P.

Yelp
First off this place is beautiful!! Our mother daughter tea date was so fun! We had the Paris tea, which was so good. We both bought some for home. We tried their two-tier desserts, which we loved the scones. The salad we had with Brie and fruit was super good. Definitely get that. The baked potato with beans and tomato soup was just ok. SANTA was there and some girls singing, which was really a nice touch. The only thing that was a little bit weird was a table of ladies got sat down next to us and got all their stuff out and looking at the menu and the hostess came over and asked them if they would move to a round table in the middle of the restaurant because one of their reservations requested a window seat. The lady said that she had made her reservations two months ago and she didn't want to move. Which I didn't blame her. I thought it was a little bit weird and tacky of the worker to ask that. Hopefully they could handle that situation better next time. We will definitely be back to enjoy some more tea soon!

Sarah B.

Yelp
Such a cute quaint little tea room. Overall the tea selection is amazing. I had their holiday tea which was delish and the earl grey which was also very good. I ordered the soup and sandwich selection. The soup and sandwiches were sooo good. I ordered the petit four for dessert. All were good. If you're looking for a fun girls lunch this is it. The staff is super friendly, very attentive and dressed so cute. They even had Santa and Carolers. I will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Adorable place for brunch with the girls. The salad was delicious! I also had tea and scones. The server was so sweet. Would definitely come again!

Yelp
Galentines brunch with my girlfriend's was perfect here! I didn't have a fancy hat but to my surprise they had a treasure box filled with beautiful hats to borrow. I picked the one pictured. The small bites were filling and so yummy! I loved the fact that we didn't feel rushed but still had attentive and friendly service.

Michele N.

Yelp
I went here with my mom, and what a pleasant time we had. Everything about the experience was lovely ... the location, the atmosphere both inside and out, the presentation, the food/tea, the service. It was a delight. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We had a great Christmas tea yesterday. They were kind to let us sit inside, as tables opened up sooner than expected, because it was a cold and rainy day. The service is amazing and attentive. We loved how beautifully decorated it was. The food is delicious and we love coming here despite the drive for us.

Christie C.

Yelp
This is a beautiful tea house- service was good and the tea was hot! highly recommend

Yelp
The family really enjoyed our visit to the English Tea Room. The atmosphere is incredibly cute and fun, with flowers and charming teapots adding to the ambiance. The food was exactly what we expected. We had a lovely time.

Yelp
Great ambiance, beautiful decorations you almost feel you are in England. Great service. Their selection of teas is extensive and flavorful. When you step in at the English Rose Tea Room you are feeling special. We always come here for Mother's Day and birthdays. A most go! The afternoon tea is enough for 2-3. :)

Yelp
a beautiful pink paradise. the decor is stunning. so many pink roses. there was a misunderstanding with our booking but they made up for it with excellent customer service. the food was delicious. the lavender macaroon was my fave. even the bathroom was nice with the roses and heart shaped mirror lol

Yelp
Delicious tea and very friendly staff! We came here for my cousin's birthday and they really made her feel special. Delicious food and exquisite tea.

Yelp
I have given only 3 stars due to the fact we had to sit outside in 103 temperatures.. We made reservations on line but wasn't aware that seating was outside for online guests. If we had known we would have chosen another day. We had guests from out of town plus a 3 year old. I was embarrassed that our guests were uncomfortably warm. It was the fastest tea experience I have ever had......... maybe THAT was the point. Great service and very cute.

Yelp
Nestled by the mountains of Carefree, over in the Sun Dial area is a wonderful treat all the way from England. This little piece of England, this bountiful spot of civilized British class and a breath of fresh air from the rough cowboy Frontier town. Jo provides the most remarkable piece of English culture, this side of the Thames. Here, you will experience what it feels like to be served the very best English Tea experience. Feel like royaltea, as you are served with bone china tea pots with loose tea, tea cups and saucers (no they don't match, that's the charm) flowers, tiers of pastries, Devon cream, sandwiches and real English scones... the whole experience makes you close your eyes and forget where you are for that moment. Recommend booking your spot and planning ahead, this place is by far the most popular eatery. Book a table, gather friends, dress up nice and get thoroughly immersed in English Tea. Huge selection of English, herbal and fruit teas and plenty of boxed, bags and leaf tea to take home from the store. "This royal tea service of kings, this sceptered teapot, This teacup of majesty, this seat of head teapot pourer, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This tea shoppe built by Jo for herself. Against the mountains of the hand of cowboys, This happy breed of tea, in this little world, This precious stone set in the silver tea spoon, Which serves as the rose of Carefree. Or as a river or tea, to a cup, Against the envy of less happier coffees,--This blessed pot, this tea leaf, this realm, this England." William Shakespeare

Yelp
Visited this tea room which has been my 2nd visit. The atmosphere and ambiance here is, it's very crowded. Other tea rooms I have visited create an atmosphere of intimacy, not the case here. The cash register is located in a position where patrons gather as they are ready to leave thus crowding into a 4 seat table near by, (the table we were seated at). People were towering over us as we we trying to enjoy our tea experience. $42 for a three tier tray consisting of finger sandwiches, scones and various deserts. You order and are served quickly, giving the appearance of a fast food atmosphere. I found the sandwiches to be bland. Tea was delicious. Although a nice tea room, I wouldn't consider this to be one of the better ones I've been to.

Yelp
This place is adorable! We went for tea and sandwiches and had the best time. I had a pot of the London fog which was delicious. We shared a tier of sandwich and cookie samples. Staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Love this place, went here with my girls to celebrate my birthday! They were so nice and attentive here, they even turned off all the lights and came out to sing happy birthday with a candle to me. I love this place and the ladies here, the little bites were nice as well.
