Finally, Avondale has Japanese.
This simply lovely yakitori-focused hideaway inside Olive & Pine features many above-average small plates, and an additional heartier set of selections for weekend brunch. In our opinion, it would benefit from: additional seafood yakitori, one or two always-available sushi options, and a clear selection of larger portions for those who choose to have a hearty meal.
Standouts include the craveable shrimp pops, wonderful ramen, and a stunning but tiny hamachi dish featuring the glorious tender fish wrapped around crunch, with perfectly chosen sauce and scallion accompaniment.
Having experienced outstanding yakitori elsewhere in Atlanta and Decatur, I found at least a couple of the yakitori to be too dry (at minimum, the broccoli and shiitake could benefit from further basting).
At this writing, Enso is in its early stages of opening. I will not hesitate to recommend it for those in the area who have noticed the gaping hole in Avondale's major cuisine offerings until now. Many guests will be able to put together a full meal by making multiple selections from across the menu, and at some point I trust the restaurant will cater to the rest.
