This place was such a lucky find - we had wandered all over Marseille on an August Monday night and EVERYTHING was closed. All the restaurants we'd been hunting for were shut, and we finally just had to take a chance. Fortunately we were in this fun, artsy neighbourhood, and this place caught our eye when we saw the huge platters of seafood. When in a coastal French town, do as the Marseillaise do!
The service was very warm and friendly, to the point where the owner allowed my husband to buy, for 1 euro, the beer glass from which he was drinking to add to his collection (don't worry, we left a big tip). It had a very relaxed feel, with cute streetside dining where you could watch the world go by.
For a very reasonable price, we ordered a small charcuterie platter and a small seafood platter - but this was more than enough food! We had large wedges of 4 different cheeses, as well as sliced sausages and parma ham, fruit preserves, tomatoes, pickles, and plenty of bread. The seafood platter arrived beautifully on ice, featuring plenty of oysters, crab legs, mussels, some of the best prawns I've ever had, clams, and snails (could've lived without them - they're chewy!) What a treat. We ate, and ate, going through baskets of bread slathered with sweet butter, dipping our cold fish in garlicky aioli, layering hunks of meat and cheese greedily onto the bread, and generally being incredibly decadent. Everything was gorgeous, it's just what you would want in a meal. So much variety, everything fresh. Order smaller platters than you think you need, as the portions are generous and you'll fill up eating so much fresh bread too!
The place looked new, and doesn't seem to have much online presence. Spread the word, this place deserves the business!
