"EnVie is arguably Halifax’s best vegan spot, and this refined restaurant skips the tired shaved beet and carrot salad in favour of contemporary dishes using farmer’s market ingredients, featuring everything from dumplings and oyster mushroom wings to “charcuterie” boards and fried chick’n sandwiches." - Gabby Peyton, Kaitlyn McInnis

Amazing place to share a lovely meal for a special occasion, or just for a nice lunch or dinner. Loved the mushroom gnocchi and the cheesecake was a nice surprise! My only gripe is that as a tall guy, the portion sizes weren't quite enough to fill me up even after appetizers and desserts. The food was amazing though, so well worth it in any case!

Stopped in for a late lunch while visiting Halifax. We made a reservation online, but there was plenty of seating available. However, it isn't a big dining room, so plan accordingly. We ordered the pakoras as an appetizer, and they we're served with two different types of sauces. The chilli lime burger was delicious as well and served with potato wedges. Our bill for 3 of us, including one appetizer, 3 lunches, 2 non alcoholic, and one glass of wine, was $100 before gratuities.

Great food with excellent service. The place freshly prepared all its food from scratch and takes great care of its customers preferences and taste. Their desserts are mostly homemade and the ingredients well chosen to bring out the authentic taste, texture and flavour. The freshness and delectable flavours are indeed worth it.

Dumplings were delicious and crispy, must try for vegans. Pad Thai (rice noodles) was good overall with broccoli with just the right amount of flavors, bell peppers and peanut. Beverage Glass lemon kick is a refreshing tangy drink. Side potato wedges were yummy. Good place for vegans and expect your invoice to be around-$55-$70 for a couple. Quantity is generous for 1 person. 2 people can easily share Pad Thai if you have normal appetite.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. First off let's talk about the staff. Absolutely amazing, they went above and beyond. We were served by Courtney and she took all the time to talk to us about the menu and the drinks. Offered great suggestions and went above and beyond with recommending places in the city to eat and drink at. And now she goes further above and beyond by calling a local pizza shop to see if they could accommodate me being vegan. Now one step further, checks her old emails to help us get into a local speakeasy. Everything about her was perfect. Now the food. Excellent, I had the schnitzel with potatoes and it was super convincing. My girlfriend had a bowl that was delicious. We had to get an appetizer and dessert. Neither disappointed. Drinks were also very tasty, both the alcoholic and non alcoholic ones You will not regret going here, so do yourself a favour and go.

We went in for a very late lunch/early supper and easily found a comfortable spot. I ordered a Banh Mi sandwich which was their special of the day(Not on menu). I asked the staff to replace the mushroom topping with the Tofu and they were able to make that change. It was a decent sandwich however, impossible to eat like a sub, so had to go the knife-fork route. I will say I’ve had better but this was good too. My friends(both of them actually) ordered the Mushroom Tacos and they found it a bit underwhelming. I also had ordered an ‘Old-Fashioned’ cocktail which was pretty good. I would say it is a good restaurant. Probably will have a better experience with the group next time around.

This was an excellent restaurant, and all vegan, so I could order anything off the menu! The protein power bowl was fresh and delicious, and the bean burrito was good too, though I would have liked to know ahead of time that it was spicy! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I'll definitely return here when I'm in Halifax.

A must-try for anyone in the area. I make a point of dropping in every time we visit Halifax. Their menu is expansive and full of variety. So many delicious vegan options for anyone to enjoy. My fave is the chili cheeze fries, they are LOADED with toppings. Finally got to try the King Wings and I wish we got more, they were sauced up and so flavorful. Their burgers are also stacked with toppings, worth a try but can be messy. They generally have some rotating seasonal cocktails available, I tried a spiced cider and it really hit the spot on a cold rainy day. Staff was a little pretentious but honestly, kinda comes with the territory when you go to a hipster vegan restaurant. He was nice enough to explain ingredients and give recommendations for popular dishes last time we visited.

Yelp
Food : Interesting food menu, all vegan healthy options and so fresh and delicious I ordered a coconut latte which was soothing and creamy Kale Caesar salad was amazing and so full of flavour Nachos were crispy with fresh veggies & the vegan bacon burger was just epic! Service partners were so polite and helped us in ordering since it was our first visit here. Ambience: Just what you need when you want a peaceful and cozy place to have your meal ! This is definitely going to be one of my favourite eateries in Halifax

Holly N.

Yelp
It's a great little spot! En Vie started my love for the Kale Caesar salad and coconut bacon. I'll never forget the cinnamon apple dessert dumplings one year, they were next level. I like that their menu has permanent and new seasonal items.

Yelp
I'm so sorry to have to do this, but the takeout I ordered tonight was pretty terrible. The fresh rolls came poorly rolled and both fell apart when I picked them up. Tried to eat them but it was impossible. Ate them with a fork. The sesame dipping sauce was really tasty though. I also got the pad thai, and it was so bland that I had to add 2 other sauces of my own to make it somewhat flavourful. It was just not good at all. Don't think I'll be back.

Yelp
My husband and I were wandering around Agricola when we spotted En Vie. We were still pretty full from lunch, but it was our last day in Halifax for that trip, and En Vie was on my list of restaurants that I wanted to try in Halifax, so on a whim we decided to go in for a little snack. Overall, I felt that the food was ok. En Vie is a vegan restaurant, and I really like how they indicate which items are gluten-free, nut-free, and soy-free, since many vegan items contain these ingredients that some people may want to avoid for various reasons. My husband and I decided to share an appetizer and a dessert. We got the soup of the day, which was a vegetable and chickpea soup ($6) we added sourdough bread for an additional $2. We also got the Strawberry Shortcake ($12). We got the small size for the soup, but there was an option of the large size for $10. The small size was about a cup. I thought it would be a puree, but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually chunks in broth. It was mostly chickpeas, tomatoes, onions and green onions. It was flavourful. The extra $2 got us 1 slice of bread, cut into two pieces. The bread was a bit salty for my liking and there was too much of a butter-like spread on it which made it too oily/greasy for my tastes. The strawberry shortcake was described as a "sponge cake", but was incredibly dense and too heavy for my tastes. The "coconut whip" was also really dense. I expected a whipped cream texture, but it was more like coconut oil mixed with coconut cream and then chilled. The menu said it would come with toasted pistachios, but our dessert had none (sad face). The strawberries were in a sauce and they were ok. There was an edible flower on top of the dessert which made it look pretty. I think I was disappointed with this dessert because it was very different from what I expected and it was also really small. By the name and menu description, I expected a light sponge cake with whipped cream made of coconut milk and fresh strawberries, what we received was much richer and denser. Oh well. Service was friendly, and the inside of the cafe looked nice. I personally was not wowed by the food, and I felt that $20 before taxes and tip for 1 cup of soup, 1 slice of bread, and a small dessert was too pricey, but others may feel differently.

Yelp
Really cute/cozy vegan spot with great coffee from java blend. Went for brunch and had the full breakfast (3/5), the cheeseburger (3.3/5) with chili cheez fries (3.2/5) and the French toast (4/5). Overall very friendly. One complaint is charging $2 for an extra beet ketchup, seems a bit excessive.

Jordan L.

Yelp
Great food here! Good service, quick and fresh. Went back twice already. Had their pre made kale Caesar wrap, which was super fresh and equally tasty. Their Pad Thai was just the right level of sauce and spicy! Their prices were in line with their quality, but that's the only thing I'd ask that they improve. Smoothies are also very yummy!

Kristina R.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place, we picked it as a place to celebrate my first trip to Nova Scotia. It was spot on with all the wonderful tasty options. We started with the king wings, dumplings, lettuce cups, cheese and charcuterie board. As a group we all could agree that they aced all of these items and we would come back and order these again. The entrees were the tacos and pad thai which were good but underwhelming compared to our appetizer smorgasbord. We did enjoy our vodka mules made with kombucha. Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
The food is more expensive than other vegan restaurants, but you definitely get your buck's worth. Envie has one of the best vegan food I've ate, and the people there are very nice. The vibe is very upbeat, and the food is on top. Really great vegan restaurant.

Yelp
My first visit, to this restaurant, was today. It was suggested by my dining companion, it's one of her favourite spots. We had lunch at 2pm, the place was busy but not crowded. Our server was pleasant and attentive but didn't hover, and our food came quickly once we ordered. I had the 'power salad' and my companion had the poutine. The portions were just right. We were satisfied before finishing. The salad had balanced portions of greens and roasted veg and dressing. It was delicious. I'll order it again. The poutine was also generous but not excessive. Delicious and filling. We enjoyed watching the activity on the street while having lunch. It's a cozy little place with a pleasant atmosphere. They also have a fridge with a variety of healthy beverages, lunch items and desserts that you can buy to-go. Very handy if you need to grab a quick lunch on the run.

Yelp
I've been to EnVie three times now, and each one left me with mixed feelings. I'll start with what I like about the place: I love the building and the layout and the interior finishes. It's a wonderful mix of recycled artistically assembled materials in a comfortable and cozy layout. I love that it's run by young and passionate local people. I love it that they offer cooking classes and are involved in the community. I love the thought and care that goes into the preparation of the menu. The end result is amazing as well as everything is usually bursting with flavor. Now on to what could use improvement. The place is cold in the winter, could they please turn the heat up 1 or 2°? Portion sizes are so very small in some cases. Each time we had a meal there I ended up seeking food at home immediately after. Considering the prices, one should walk away feeling satiated. I realize there's a haute cuisine thing going on but leaving hungry will make me want to not come back. New Year's Eve dinner for two with wine and coffee and tip ran to $160 and I was still hungry when I got home. Also, they need to check seasonings. We each were knocked over by overpowering salt in the first bites of our apps last night: mine was the dehydrated oyster mushrooms, my partner's was the potato chip. It was just barely edible. The rest of the meal was flavourful and reasonably seasoned. Did the plates get an accidental second sprinkle after assembly? Again, EnVie has so much going for it but they could use some tweaks here and there. For the prices it needs to step up the game. I'm in a minority with the negative comments but the restaurant deserves some honest feedback to help improve. Here's hoping they improve and thrive and continue serving healthy and delicious vegan food for many years!

Yelp
I travel a lot for work and always try to scope out the local vegan restaurants. This restaurant was well reviewed so we struck out to dine there on a weeknight evening. We were surprised to find that even on a weeknight the was a significant wait for a table for 2 - so I'd recommend reservations. Once we got a table, though, it was well worth the wait. Everything we had was amazing. We started with a charcuterie board. The cheeses were subtle but delicious. But they also had seitan bacon, and it was absolutely the best vegan bacon I've ever had. I don't remember what my partner ate for an entree (I remember it was delicious) but I had the cauliflower steak and it was mouth watering. As I said I always look for the great vegan places in every city. This one ranks among the best I've been to on my travels.

Yasu F.

Yelp
Great place! I like the interior - cozy. We shared a vegan burger and mushroom wings. The portions were a little bit smaller than I expected, but both tasted great. For some mixed up, we had to wait for an hour for our food. We should have followed up with our waitress earlier to confirm... She gave us free cookies at the end, so all good.:) I saw other people having Pad Thai, and it looked really good.

Yelp
I was in Halifax for work and was looking for a vegetarian friendly place, where parking was also accessible. Found this place during my search and was quite pleased to have tried it out. It has a rustic but modern appeal to it, cute little wooden tables decorated with small vases filled with flowers which brighten up the place. I wanted to try so many things on their lunch menu so opted to try a couple of small things. Though when I looked at other tables, the poutine seemed to be something popular as a shared item to begin with. I tried their veggie soup of the day, which was fine. I'm usually just excited to find a soup that isn't chicken broth based... Then tried the dumplings, which I wasn't so impressed with. They were fried, which I didn't expect and pretty oily. The dipping sauce that came along was super salty, it was better to have them on their own. I finished off by ordering a cafe latte with almond milk, which I haven't had great experiences with, but thought a vegan friendly place with a fancy coffee machine may be worth a try. For the first time I was pleasantly surprised with how good an almond milk cafe latte can be!!! And given that they took the time to present it well I had to sit there and finish it off. I'd definitely go back next time I'm in town and try something other than the dumplings.

Yelp
Haven't been here in a couple of years, but popped in for lunch on a nice Wednesday in August. There were two tables with reserved signs on them, so I took a two seater on the left when you walk up the steps. There is seating for maybe 20-25 in total? So if you have a large group or want to guarantee a seat without a wait, reserve for sure. Anyway, friendly staff as always. The Charcoal Latte on the drink specials menu sounded intriguing to me, but I had already had a latte that morning, so will have to come back another time to try that. I did get the CAULIFLOWER TACOS (3) ($14 gf, sf | soft corn tortillas, spiced roasted cauliflower, guacamole, corn salsa, slaw, cilantro, cashew sour cream). They were very good, nice mix of textures, a bit messy to eat, but the cauliflower pieces weren't covered in sauce, so it wasn't like sticky messy or anything. Just a nice satisfying lunch. Came for a Tuesday lunch in September and got the Taco salad ($15 gf sf | corn salsa, guacamole, chilli sunflower seeds, nacho raw crackers, cashew sour cream, mixed greens, balsamic dressing). It was good. I like the artsy look of the huge raw crackers sticking out, but found the flavor nothing overly memorable. I will go back more often again and try some other things. :)

Yelp
A forty minute walk from my hotel, so worked up an appetite! A huge bottle of water is delivered to the table. Everything on the menu looks delicious and it is difficult to choose. I order the Buffalo Barley Burger with side of poutine. It is quite warm in the restaurant which is my only complaint so far. There is a cool little "fact sheet" on the table explaining why omitting animal products is good for humans and the environment. See attached photos. The burger is perfect, the poutine amazing!!! I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Candace O.

Yelp
I have brought both my Mom and my boyfriend here on different occasions and we all left full and happy! Our servers were pleasant, the dining area is welcoming and bright, and the food was fresh and delicious! We'll be back for sure! :)

Sarah O.

Yelp
Best vegan burger in the city. You can tell they use high quality ingredients and a lot of love and care in the food here. I find myself wanting to go all the time!

Sean K.

Yelp
We were in Halifax for just a day and a half and ate at EnVie twice. Almost tried for a third but had to get back on the road. Some may say the meals are a bit pricey but it's really gourmet vegan food and very much worth it. This is not a simple salad place that has pasta without meat. It's much more creative, fresh, new and so so tasty. We had the buffalo wing appetizer and can't stop thinking about it! And next door is a lovely little grocery store with local items.

Vicki M.

Yelp
I don't get to the area as often as I'd like, but I totally love everything about this restaurant. Service is great with that added touch of personality from the servers, the cute and cozy atmosphere from the decor to the location and, of course, the FOOD!! I went for brunch this time around and the French Toast was amazing!! My friend had Avocado -chickpea toast and was equally as impressed .... top it off with two Oat Milk Lattes and we were all set for the day!

A. M.

Yelp
So glad we stopped here on our short stay in Halifax. I had the teriyaki bowl and it was divine. We also split a piece of cheesecake and it was probably the best vegan cheesecake I've experienced in a long time. The place was bright and clean and our server was friendly.

Alan B.

Yelp
First off I am not vegan but still enjoyed this restaurant. It's small and quant and perfect for a little romantic time with the wife. Had the butter chicken which was not chicken, but tofu, yet still delicious. It was paired well with the recommended bulwark cider and made my taste buds very happy. Two thumbs up!!

Heather E.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant hands down. Very rarely am I able to order ANYTHING I want off of a menu, but at EnVie the world is my oyster if you will. I try to order something different every time I visit, and everything I get ends up becoming my new favorite. One thing will never change however, that being a peanut butter cup for dessert. I particularly enjoy the to go fridge. I can take a little piece of EnVie home every time I visit!

Laura A.

Yelp
I went to EnVie for a pre-work dinner with a co-worker a few weeks ago. This service at this place is top notch! We were never left needing anything and he came at all of the right times. I got the Thai Dragon Bowl and my friend got the Grilled Cheese with Kale Salad. Both of which were absolutely delicious. I love my food spicy so I asked for hot sauce for my bowl and he brought me a house made sauce which was so creamy and delicious - I would love the recipe! I also ordered the EnVie Elixir which was so fresh and amazing. Nothing but positives to report for this restaurant - I will most definitely be back!

Heather B.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday and was disappointed to find only a limited brunch menu at 2pm. Vegan poutine was good. Nice space.

Ellen B.

Yelp
My vegetarian best friend and lactose-intolerant me made a trip to enVie recently. It was an early Saturday evening and we had no problem finding a good table. The layout of the resto is a bit odd, but I assume they've done what they can with the space they have. The front room is either a bar or a waiting area. It's a large communal spot where people were enjoying drinks but no food, so I'm not sure which it is. The restaurant proper is to the right and very small. White plastic chairs (boo), but nice artwork on the walls. The menu is rather limited, unless you like salad. Great salad selection. The hot menu items are comprised mostly of fake meat substitutes: tofu, seitan, tempeh. Fake burgers, fake ham, etc. To be honest I was pretty skeptical at first, but my Hali Vegsteak was really good, as was the mac and cheese. The sandwich was so messy to eat I had to use a fork and knife, but it was delicious. The southwest lentil burger was a hit with my friend. Their food has good flavour and is reasonably priced. Portions are large. As for dessert, they have chocolate. How can you go wrong? I had the chocolate peanut butter cup. The chocolate was hard and difficult to pierce with my fork, but the taste was great. Servers were friendly and helpful and overall it was a very good experience. There are many more things I'd like to try!

Lianne P.

Yelp
Holy monkeys! I had the vegan 'Big Mac' with a side of poutine for #HFXBurgerWeek and it was divine. In fact, it was like nothing I've ever had ANYWHERE, and I'm a pretty prolific veggie burger eater. I've had a burger from just about every establishment in the city and this is hands down the most incredible. The flavours created mouth explosions and I openly moaned throughout the whole meal. Just thinking about it makes me want another..... And the poutine was just the right amount of gooey goodness. A side salad with that burger just would never have cut it! If I had unlimited amounts of disposable cash, I would only ever eat from Envie forever. True story!

Happy B.

Yelp
This is a must. If you are visiting Halifax, and are vegan or not, this is a lovely local restaurant in one of the hoppers neighborhoods in Halifax. I love the food - it is freshly made with local ingredients - amazing. Oh, you aren't one of those 'crazy vegan people'? Lol. Neither is my husband and he loves it here. The first time I brought him, we had brunch - I told him it was vegan but he completely forgot when he was eating his 'bacon and scrambled eggs' he kept saying how amazing the bacon and eggs were. I told him it was neither bacon nor eggs, and he couldn't believe it. The bowls are awesome, they have a wonderful charcuterie and the wine and beer selection is really REALLY good! Oh and the peanut butter pie - yikes! Vegan at its best. Customer service is soooooooo friendly!

Claire K.

Yelp
I'll admit, I used to think veganism was eating lettuce with lettuce on the side, but this place has seriously changed the way I think about plant-based eating. All of their dishes are so incredibly flavourful. I usually get the "burger", which is amazing, and makes you question how it is that you're only eating plants. The sides are also great. The potatoes are delicious, and I really loved their pistachio and arugula salad. The staff is always really friendly, and willing to make suggestions. However, I find the portions way too small, especially for the price.

Alexandra E.

Yelp
I love this place. When I was vegan it was the only place I ever wanted to go. I haven't been back since I switched to just being a vegetarian but I definitely will soon! Wonderful and innovative menus that change seasonally, in a great location.

Sara M.

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place. Mac and cheese was disgusting. My cauliflower steak was delicious however, WAY too tiny to be an expensive entree! Charcuterie board: yuck. Others at the table were disappointed as well. So many ways to make delicious vegan food, but this place does not seem to know how. Wonderful ambience.

Ben B.

Yelp
It's a good time to be meat-free in Halifax! Or at least it's starting to balance out after the Year of the Barbecue, the Year(s) of the Burger, and the Year of the Deli...We now boast to-go options, casual dine-in, and fine(r) dining options all without an animal in sight. enVie's competitive advantage: great location, gorgeous interior, and full alcohol list so you can toast to your smug dietary choices. I highly recommend you give their cocktails a shot - they're super fresh and pack a punch. enVie's potential downsides: it's a small spot with only a handful of tables so I could see a long wait depending on who beat you to the punch. Once seated, it's not a place for privacy. You'll be in close quarters with fellow guests. The menu seems to change regularly but promises all the potent proteins that the meatless may have been missing. Seitan, tempeh, and lentils take starring roles next to quinoa concoctions, mushroom scallops, and fantastic veggie sides the likes of which I haven't experienced outside of established upscales like Chives or Gio. Well worth a visit!

Russ E.

Yelp
What a completely awesome place to have dinner! Food was a 10, Poutine appetizer, Cesar Kale salads, roasted vegetable rap, and Lentil burger. Service was as good as the food, completely great Vegan Experience. DO EAT HERE:-) VeganFit from Barrie Ontario Russ & Shannon Evon

Bob L.

Yelp
I was extremely excited to visit a vegan cafe in a city known for seafood! They had an impressive fresh menu with tons of accommodations for all dietary restrictions, and I was overall pleased with the smoothie and vegan chili cheeze fries I got. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere is adorable! Minor issue: I tried the smoothie on special with oat milk and this banana strawberry basil smoothie generally just tasted like banana which almost always happens because banana is overpowering, I would have preferred more of the strawberry and basil (basil got lost sadly), but very creamy and good consistency! I'd definitely return.

Jessica G.

Yelp
I was so disappointed after reading great reviews! I'm vegetarian so I thought I knew what to expect but the "bacon cheeseburger" was awful and the pasta we ordered was so bland. The food wasn't creative and didn't mimic non-veggie food the way I'm used to. i.e. the "mushroom bacon" was literally sauteed mushrooms, no seasoning or anything to mimic bacon, just mushrooms. The vegan cheese was also more of a bland yellow sauce. I've made better at home. On the upside the service was friendly, the atmosphere was nice and the restaurant seemed clean.

R N.

Yelp
My partner and I had high expectations for enVie, and we were worried that this would be yet another Halifax restaurant that promises a lot and fails to deliver. We were wrong. We ordered three things from the menu and each was interesting and delicious. The kale caesar salad was perfectly dressed with a good balance of greens and crunchy flavor bombs. The zucchini bolognese was sooo good--my only complaint was that there wasn't enough zucchini for all of the sauce! We also shared the macaroons for dessert--also delicious, dark chocolate and coconut, bright raspberry sauce and delicious, creamy whipped topping. An inviting space and pleasant service makes this a smart casual place that we will come back to again and again

Jacob G.

Yelp
Currently vegetarian trying to transition into a vegan so places like this are right up my alley. My main gripe is the price point really, been here twice in the last two months and enjoyed my meals both times but I don't think the meals should be $50+ with two entrees and a small appetizer. Besides the price point though the food is delicious make sure to try the wings! They aren't a "real" replacement for chicken wings but they're close enough and really delicious. Thus far me and my girlfriend have tried the ravioli, "cheese" burger, green curry and a squashed potatoes option (Doesn't seem to be on their menu anymore). All of which were delicious but not exactly what we expected save the curry. The cheeseburger was definitely lacking in the cheese department (I thought it was mustard) but that's to be expected with vegan cheese. The sauce was also a bit lackluster (Some kind of healthy alternative to ketchup). Patty and bun were on point though and the side of wedges were phenomenal the best potato side dish I've ever experienced. My girlfriend has always enjoyed her meals but we were both a bit surprised with the ravioli (Not in a negative manner). There isn't too many pockets but they're swimming in a scrumptious creamy sauce. Overall I'd recommend this place especially if you're not a meat eater or if you want something different.

Emma B.

Yelp
Everything is absolutely delicious. It's not cheap, but the food is worth it. I've tried a variety of menu items and all of them were wonderful. It's the kind of vegan restaurant you can take meat-eating friends as well, and they'll enjoy it.

Shelbe S.

Yelp
I love vegan food. Loveeee it. This place is nice and the food is alright but I feel like it's the same menu over and over, and there's not even very much on it. My favourite thing I've ever had from there isn't even on the menu anymore. (Don't ask what it was because I honestly forget.)

Heather D.

Yelp
Vegan restaurant for everyone! Let me start by saying don't be fooled by the outside! When we arrived we almost walked past it before we realized we were there! The inside however....beautiful! Its simple and fresh. The atmosphere really brings the concept alive. The most interesting of all; the kitchen is located pretty well in the middle of the establishment. Where we were sitting we could see everything that was going on. It gave us a few from the drivers seat and we liked what we saw...clean and organized. We were a group of 10+ people that went (With a reservation) and were surprised by the size of the area and how easily they accommodated us. So if you are looking for a place for a birthday gathering/special event dinner, you won't be disappointed. Now down to the food. I am not a vegan by any means but am lactose intolerant so I was more then thrilled when reading the menu I notice they had poutine for one of their appetizers. Let me just say, it was close to one of the best poutine I have had the pleasure of eating! The risotto balls were delicious too and a party favorite. I purchased the Portobello and Quinoa Burger with a kale Caesar salad.. The burger was tender, juicy and melt in your mouth good while the salad was the perfect balance of flavors. For dessert, the "cheesecake" was smooth and delicious. The selection of alcohol was diverse and everyone found something they liked. I will definitely go here again! Thank you enVie for giving Halifax yet another wonderful dining option!

Yelp
Visiting Halifax from Arizona and I did my research on vegan places to grab some brunch! Coffee was excellent and I also ordered the big breakfast which consisted of toast, roasted potatoes, tofu scramble, home made beans along with vegan sausage, very good. Slightly under seasoned, could use a little kick. I also had lunch here on a different day, the cauliflower/purple cabbage puree with a grilled cheese sandwich, were delicious and comfort food at it's most delicious. Pricey yes, but worth it.

Yelp
The food was good but, unfortunate, as a full size adult the servings were far to small to fill my vegan belly. Everything is very fresh and excellently prepared but unless your dainty and small you'll most likely leave here hungry. Other then that they are a very talented staff, and it's a wonderful spot. I wish them all the best.

Yelp
On my most recent visit to En-Vie, 7 May 2016, I was treated for a special occasion. Everything was warm & welcoming. Our server, Brittany, was cheerful & very attentive. We had lovely, tasty meals that arrived quickly. However, we had pasta & scallops, each meal served without bread or rolls. The portions were very small, meaning that we had to share another meal to have a satisfied appetite & we were still not 'full'. We are petite people & do not expect 'all you can eat' meals. :-) One suggestion would be at least offer bread or rolls with each meal, without an extra charge. Also, bigger portions, or more portions (of vegetables, soup, or salad) included with the meal would do wonders. We want to stress that the food was excellent & delicious. We will certainly return to try again, as we dine out monthly & enjoy a bottle of wine with our meal. We have heard that you respect reviews & carry through with improvements & hope the same will apply here. We are vegans & are very grateful for your restaurant. We offer this constructive criticism in hopes that it will keep many people coming back to your amazing restaurant. Thank you for your hard work & dedication to a compassionate life style.

Yelp
Ordered online through the Gata app but didn't have an option to order ahead of time:( picked up the food, got the watermelon sushi and the wontons, both pretty tasty. Also ordered the peanut butter chocolate pie as well as the cheesecake! They were both delicious but the pie was especially amazing! Lastly because I find it so hard to find pre made vegan meals I grabbed a nice dish from their pre made meal fridge- two yummy cookies and some peanut noodles - carrot and soba noodles with a peanut dressing of sorts. Really amazing but a liiiittle too much garlic and onion for my tastes, otherwise it was a wonderful to go meal. All the workers were very friendly and I would absolutely go back(:

Yelp
My mother, brother, and I were excited to try this place during our recent visit to Halifax. However, what began as a hopeful adventure ended as an ultimately disappointing experience. We started with the dumplings, which are very good and flavorful. This seemed to be an auspicious sign for the meal to follow. My mother ordered the power salad, and my brother and I both got the Mac and cheese. What a terrible mistake. The cheese sauce was absolutely flavorless. I have made delicious vegan Mac and cheese at home- it is not difficult. This, however, tasted of nothing. The tempeh "bacon" had no flavoring to give it a bacon-y flavor, and the stray bits of mushroom tasted strongly of apple cider vinegar, and not in a good way. The beet ketchup was the saving grace of this meal, offering a hint of flavor if thoroughly mixed in. My mother reported that her power salad was remarkably bland as well. Overall, this food was extraordinarily overpriced for the disappointed it resulted in. How dare this be regarded as the shining pinnacle of vegan food in Halifax. Vegans of Halifax, don't be complacent, you deserve better than this.

Yelp
I often wonder why I don't go to EnVie more often. In principle it's an awesome vegan restaurant a stone's throw from my house. After a year or two having not been, I'll give it a try and remember why I haven't been in such a long time. I find it very hit or miss. Everything sounds great on paper; some dishes sound very inventive and forward thinking. In practice, though, the execution often leaves a lot to be desired, which in my opinion is unacceptable given the prices and fine dining-ish atmosphere. Some dishes I've had there have been very good - I was a fan of the philly cheesesteak in particular - but I have had more dishes than not that were disappointing. I recently dropped by and had a very disappointing meal. First up was dish of buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese sauce - the wings in this case were king oyster mushrooms. The dish sounded wonderful but was very difficult to eat due to some combination of the mushrooms and/or the outer crust (incicentally, I had a perfectly executed dish with a similar concept recently at Lincoln St in Lunenburg: lion's mane mushrooms "fish and chips"), and frankly I'm of the opinion that you may as well not call it "blue cheese" sauce if it's bears literally no resemblance to the instantly recognizable flavour of blue cheese. That was followed up with a bacon double cheeseburger which was just a horrible mess. Structurally unsound to the point of being laughable, an unfortunately large and flavourless bun, half of which I tossed, and was left with a mess of a meal that I debated simply leaving on the plate. It was served with potatoes served with a fairly unpalatable - in my opinion - housemade ketchup. I understand that there's a challenge in making vegan food that attempts to mimic familiar favourites, but if you aren't hitting the mark, you might continue woodshedding the dish before putting it on the menu for paying customers. I think that there's great imagination and talent behind EnVie but that they would probably be smart to take cues from a place like Au Vivre in Montreal in developing a very stable menu of tried and true, pitch-perfect dishes, then offering daily specials that allow them to try out new things for adventurous customers. This is one person's opinion (though friends and family have expressed similar thoughts based on meals we've shared there). I realize that they do a strong business and have probably a very satisfied customer base, perhaps owing to the fact that they are something of a monopoly in Halifax and that Halifax is fairly disconnected geographically from larger centres, so some customers may have different expectations of a vegan restaurant at this price point than others. I would love for EnVie to be a place like Auv Vivres in Montreal where friends and I would go in on a weekly basis because the food was so good, but in truth it will probably be a few more years before I forget why I haven't been in a while.

Yelp
Interesting and varied menu, enjoyed the lentil burger, creamy broccoli almond soup, Valley crocque Monsieur, BBQ jackfruit burrito, pumpkin pie and peanut butter cups. All very tasty! Service was acceptable. Prices were moderately high, however, atmosphere was comfortable and cozy.

Yelp
My boyfriend took me here tonight for our anniversary. For him it was a normal restaurant experience, he really enjoyed his meal even though it contained no meat (he's not vegan) he didn't think anything was missing. For me it was an amazing experience, I got to have creamy pasta, cheesecake, and a peanut butter cup! This may not sound exciting but I have celiac and a dairy allergy so these are things I rarely eat, and even when I do they always seem sub-par. The food at EnVie was amazing, the staff was friendly and knowledgable, and the atmosphere was really nice. I would recommend it to anyone but especially someone with allergies since they are very conscious and careful! I can't say enough about how good my experience was, and even more that my (harsh carnivore) boyfriend can't wait to go back.

Yelp
The best place for vegan food in HRM- hands down! The best place for any food in HRM, in my opinion! They have such a creative menu, all vegan, much of it glute free! It feels like fine dining but not at fine dining prices! Everything is so reasonable! My absolute favorite is the carbonara. You won't believe pasta that satisfying and creamy could be vegan. The charcuterie board is a good appy- how do they make such convincing cheddar? I would recommend this place for veggies and non-veggies alike- as long as they enjoy delicious, fresh, creative food!
