The Best Coffee Shops in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"There are tons of coffee houses in and around the French Quarter, but this place is a true New Orleans classic. Often raucous, always colorful, and sometimes less than savory, Envie draws a very loyal crowd, in part due to its rare late hours — it’s open until 11 p.m. — and outdoor seating, great for French Quarter people-watching." - Eater Staff

Google
Nice little cafe with a good selection of food and drinks. The shrimp and grits was the best dish out of everything we ordered. They also have some alcohol based coffee drinks that are really good.

This cafe was right next to our hotel, and we ended up having breakfast here for 4 days in a row! It seemed to be a local favorite and had a great, cozy vibe to it. We ended up trying a variety of things veggie paninis, breakfast bagels, apple pie and everything was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Just walking past this place and the aroma of fresh brewed coffee caught our attention. I ordered the King Cake Latte. The barista was able to offer suggestions to increase my experience with this beverage, she did not disappoint. The Veggie Wraps were amazing, fresh vegetables. The presentation was lovely. The Biscuit tastes as if they are using grandma's treasured recipe.

Google
Place is beautiful inside and outside, food doesn’t have anything special as I thought it could since the place is so cute, and located in a nice calm corner. Service at the cashier was a little weird. I wouldn’t come back, but I think is a cute beautiful infrastructure and design.

Google
Great food done with a bit of flair. The Chicken and waffles were top class, waffles a combo of crispy and fluffy and the chicken tender punching more flavour than I thought possible. Great!

Google
Ample seating, including at the bar. Some fun day drinks and excellent regular coffees. Their espresso did the job very well. Food options are plenty and also tasty. Reasonable prices and clean restroom!

Google
This is a decent little cafe. The food was good. The drinks were good. The prices were fair for a tourist area. The location was clean. The staff were a bit moody and monotone. There was plenty of seating inside and outside. Parking is street only and very limited. Not a bad stop if wandering the area.

Google
As a local, this is my favorite coffee shop in the city. They are typically busy mornings/weekends (as is every place in the quarter), so plan accordingly, but the wait is worth it. They have a LOT of coffee and food options, so you're sure to find something you're into. The staff is also extremely kind and efficient. Even if the line is long, it'll go pretty fast. The indoor/outdoor seating is really awesome.

Yelp
This coffee shop is great! It is so New Orleans and a French Quarter gem. They have a coffee mixed with alcohol and a full breakfast menu. What more can you ask for?! I had the bagel and lox since I have been on a kick for a while now, and it was pretty darn good. I also had a Mardi Gras latte and it tasted really good. It didn't have that fake sort of chemical flavors that some of the king cake lattes have. This one was cinnamony and good! The first-time I came here, I did get the hot Irish cream, which is basically an Irish coffee. So good! Hot Irish coffees seems to be rare around the French Quarter since Erin Rose is famous for their frozen ones. I prefer mine hot even if it is a million degrees out. Anyway, I love this place. They are doing everything right here and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good boozy, breakfast to start their day with!

Yelp
What a Gem me the wife ran across we really were in the mood for a spiked coffee! We searched the web a little bit and Cafe Envie popped up. Boy was it a treat I got the GutterPunk and my wife got the Fireball Mocha both great. I got really surprised it had a little bite from the alcohol but that's all good in NOLA! It's a nice stop for you to start your day walking around the French Quarter. You are definitely going to have a pep in your step. They have un spiked coffee as well. I also got the avocado Bagel with a side of bacon, it was excellent wasn't too heavy and really refreshing. If you want to have an awesome day start it here!

Yelp
I love dropping by Envie when I'm in need of a pick-me-up in the Quarter. The Gutterpunk cocktail is high octane! Bacon jam toast was delicious, too. Service is always friendly and it's a great place to get some personal work done in your journal or planner.
google avatar

Yelp
Great lil spot to have a coffee cocktail and sweet. Staff was friendly and helpful. If want to play a game of chess it's the spot

Yelp
When the planned breakfast place was closed until 10am, I decided to kill some time with a coffee at Envie. After ordering g my coffee, I realized their menu was looking mighty tasty so I asked the kind server about gluten free and it turns out they have celiac! On their recommendation I ordered the avocado omelet with hash browns and was beyond pleased. Excellent service, great food and wonderful coffee all in a classic New Orleans ambiance!

Yelp
Adorable little coffee shop at the edge of the quarter with tasty treats. Order at the counter and then a server brings your food over to you. I wanted light, so I changed the avocado toast to whole wheat. Tasty. The fried basil is a great touch. Being January, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at how tart the tomatoes were. Kind of overwhelming. Now, the cheese grits and gravy were absolutely amazing. Crisp, salty, packed with flavor. Nice coffees.

Yelp
Excellent little cafe in the French Quarter! My bestie and I were in need of some quick breakfast and stopped here. Not only were the workers super friendly and pleasant but the food was excellent! We both had omelettes and they were very fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Tootie M.

Yelp
This is a lovely pet friendly cafe. The coffee is excellent as is any of the breakfast dishes. I had an egg, brie and ham croissant and my hubby had the bacon jam toast with egg. They had so many tasty options I don't think you could go wrong.
google avatar

Hailey P.

Yelp
This is the cutest whole in the wall coffee shop! I love it because they actually serve breakfast AND lunch! I got so much food. The club sandwich was great and the French fries were hand cut and excellent!! Everyone was super friendly, as well.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is really cool. Food was great, cocktails were excellent. Had Shrimp and Grits, Breakfast Cup, and a couple cocktails. We went here twice during our 3 days stay in NO. Really cool place

Yelp
This was our first stop in the French Quarter during our New Orleans getaway. We stopped to grab a coffee but seeing we on Vaca we decided to get some booze coffees to start our day.... We got a White Russian and a Keoki coffee. Then I saw they serve breakfast so we found a seat in this sweet little laid back corner coffee shop. I got the Shrimp and Grits and was soooo amazing! The wifey got the Biscuits and Gravy and it was some of the best she's had anywhere! After we munched I grabbed the Gutterpunk to go. This is now our must go to spot for us. If you're down in the French Quarter you have to stop in and get a booze coffee.... The staff is amazing as well! Friendly and quick! Cool as hell!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little cafe. Get here early if you plan to eat in. We were here every morning for coffee and pastries. Lots of locals and very welcoming. Definitely check it out
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little café with an interesting breakfast menu. The Breakfast in a Cup is especially innovative. If people are carrying around cups of alcoholic beverages all over the place, why not cups of breakfast too??? Breakfast in a Cup: Very creative breakfast item. It actually worked out perfectly for me since I was catching a bus to a bayou tour, so could eat this on the way as my 2nd Breakfast. It's perfect for people who want a taste of everything since it's got eggs, hash browns, grits, gravy, sausage and bacon. Though I wish the layering was a little more balanced because the top has all the high flavor stuff (baron, sausage, gravy) while bottom has mainly eggs and grits. So it can be quite bland by the time you get to the bottom layers.

Yelp
Cane in for a late night coffee before hitting Frenchman Dt. Sooooo many latte flavors...beats a Starbucks any day. I got a coconut latte and hubby got an Americano. Both were DELIcious. Server was cute and polite. Were I to wander back to piss filled New Orleans, I would frequent again.

Yelp
So far, I've only gotten coffee, and an assortment of desserts, but all have been superstars... Sometimes they are so good, and large portioned they last a couple of days in the Fridge... sometimes they just get Whomped immediately. I moved into the neighborhood in mid September, and found Cafe Envie pretty fast. I lean into their Triple Layer Chocolate Cake, and the Blueberry Cheesecake. As great as those desserts are, the Service is the Real Gem at Cafe Envie... it's always easy to tip well, and appreciate how strong the service is at Cafe Envie. There might be a line from time to time, but it's worth the wait. 5 stars, and they have a nice Menu for breakfast/sandwiches if you want to sit down and have a meal inside or at an outside table.

Yelp
I would give C-Envie ten stars if I could. I really love coming here! By far my favorite coffee shop in New Orleans. Inside tip, you'll probably find the best priced food that tastes great here too! Really a great break from the French Quarter madness to refuel with some caffeine and have a great meal! I highly recommend Cafe Envie! The staff is also part of what makes this place so great!

Yelp
It was time for an update. The staff is obviously different from when I last reviewed, and so much friendlier. The coffee continues to amaze, and our pastries this morning were "outta this world" good. I love all the wood work, especially around the chalkboard menus. It also seems more, forgive me for saying it this way, family-friendly. When nothing else serving boozy coffee is open at 9 am on a Sunday, you might think they would mail it in on quality and/or service. Here's a nice touch: the pastries came out on real plates. I love that the croissants even embody that NOLA-humidity-effect, namely , a chewiness you don't get elsewhere. I may have been wrong in my wording three years ago, but that said, the gutter-pink contingent was conspicuous in their absence. All in all, you can't beat this place for early, light fare & early morning boozy coffee!

Yelp
Sweet little cafe that's away from the crowds of Bourbon. Arrive early, it gets packed with locals!
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
This has always been our "go to" spot for excellent coffees & unique delicious breakfast choices. Our fave is the Breakfast in a Cup; 16 oz of blended goodness: Scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, cheese, gravy, all teaming up on your taste buds.

Yelp
A FQ oldie & a goodie, one of Nola's finest, and one of the ONLY coffee shops with spirits open Late! 7am till 11pm! Full coffee/espresso bar with alcohol! LOVE alcohol in my coffee especially in my espresso coffee, especially, when i'm in the FQ running around. Oui Oui. They make a great Café au lait here. Especially with whiskey. AKA Irish Coffee, "the water of life." "Café au lait is coffee with hot milk added. It differs from white coffee, which is coffee with cold milk or other whiteners added." Breakfast, lunch, snacks, views, street entertainment alway right outside, they have it all. ALWAYS, have to stop here. Highest Recommendations.

Jay P.

Yelp
Excellent pastries, beverages, breakfast and lunch. Excellent coffee, espresso and tea selection also. Excellent food and beverages served quickly. Walk up service with several tables.

Roselynn C.

Yelp
Coffee shop is okay. Employees including the owners are a little rude, and don't give recommendations when asking about certain items + smug faces and no greetings were given. Coffee flavor was good, but a little sweet. Overall, the coffee shops is cute and the inside of the building is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I love Cafe Envie. The staff is always friendly. The coffee and coffee cocktails are very good. I've never eaten there but the food that comes out of the kitchen looks amazing!

Yelp
Finally found a coffee shop in NOLA that has extended hours that is open from 7am to 12am. The cafe is located close to heart of the French Quarter past the French Market. It can get a little bit crowded around lunch time, but settles down once the afternoon comes around - however, there will be people coming in and out of the shop throughout the day. Food was pretty good here - I tried a caprese panini. It came with the side of hash browns and the hash browns are some of the best that I have had. Looking forward to coming again sometime in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
This review is for their Bloody Mary only as sadly there was a long wait the day I stopped by. I hope to be back for a full review in the future. Located on the outskirts of the French Quarter I loved that this cafe had both tourists and local alike. Their bloody mary was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. It had the right amount of tomato juice and vodka - so I felt that I was getting some veggies as I was getting my "drink" on. I hope to visit when I come back to NOLA and try their menu as it looked pretty good.

Wendy P.

Yelp
Great staff and service. The place needs a good cleaning. We noticed 1/2 through drinking our coffee that there was dust all over the cups.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Cute cafe near where we stayed in Marigny. Coffee was decent and it was a convenient spot to grab a cafe au lait to go with little to no wait. The interior space was really cool. Lots of food and drink options and plenty of seating in and around the counter, and seating outside if yummy have a pup with you or just want to enjoy some fresh air and people watch.
google avatar

Midori G.

Yelp
Yummy coffee. Good vibes. I just ordered an iced coffee and it hit the spot. It was $5 which I think is normal considering it's a touristy spot. Service was fast. There are a decent amount of tables to sit at. During my visit I was here at 9am and it wasn't very crowded. I walked past during the afternoon and all the tables were filled with people playing chess.
google avatar

Meagan A.

Yelp
Open late for the late evening coffee fix or a casual spot to hang out. Coffee is great. The most flavors I've seen at any coffee shop. Good tea selection. Nice selection of food offerings: bagels, pastries, sandwiches, and breakfast in cup. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Free wifi available. Dog friendly for outdoor seating.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Nice!! Beautiful inside, great service and coffee!! Quick walk from the hotel provincial.
google avatar

Leeanna C.

Yelp
Definitely stop here for breakfast in the French quarter! We went here one morning after a late night out. I enjoyed the drinks and food. The tables and restaurant were clean. I loved their giant bar like counter. We tried a few things. I recall ordering: 1) Raspberry schnapps mocha (tastes exactly as you'd imagine, and it's a nice surprise at breakfast time) 2) Turkey and pesto panini (classic Turkey pesto, nothing too fancy) 3) Breakfast in a cup (great if you're on the go, the grits were notably good) I'd go back! Especially for that raspberry schnapps mocha, because, why not?
google avatar

Jose A.

Yelp
Great cafe latte, the taste is hard to describe but it was an old fashion deep and bold. Good customer service from the staff by the way, they made me laugh with their sense of humor.
google avatar

Sud K.

Yelp
Walked in and the vibes were immaculate! Got an iced latte, and it was perfect. The person behind the counter even made a recommendation for a local music store - Louisiana Music Factory - for some vinyl, that ended up being pretty amazing too!
google avatar

Janice W.

Yelp
this has been my favorite spot in the quarter for YEARS....until now. i went to the counter and the barista was taking a phone call, i waited and once she was done and didn't greet me i told her my order. she then replies with a very rude and sarcastic "hello. how's your day what can i get for ya!" i have never been treated with such disrespect here so she must be new. someone give this goth girl fake barista a reality check.

Steve P.

Yelp
Open late, great food, good espresso, nice place! Good place to come late night!!! I would recommend!
google avatar

April C.

Yelp
Super great and friendly service! The whole team had friendly smiles. Great coffee and tea!
google avatar

Alexandra Jae S.

Yelp
We visited after dinner, probably almost 10 PM. Our server at dinner recommended it. They have fun alcoholic coffees and a whole menu or your traditional coffee house stuff. The place had indoor and outdoor seating. There was only one employee and he was hustling. Take an order, make a drink, repeat. The drinks were delicious.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
This was our refuge from the heat on a mid-day. We got a latte and an almond liquor au lait and they were so good! The cafe is spacious and staff was friendly. It is right in the Frenchman area at the end of French Market. Come early if you want their freshly baked goods.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Long wait for a bad cappuccino. Nice place and away from the main area but wish they had a good coffee. Looks like their food is skimpy on the helpings as well.

AG C.

Yelp
This place was so good. My mom and I were visiting and passed by this on our walk through the French quarter. We weren't expecting much but we were very happy. We both got coffees and the caprese panini and to say it was great is an understatement. The panini was very crunchy on the outside and the pesto was a great addition. The fruit that we got with it was very sweet and a good refreshing side. We ended up going back a few more times over our stay. Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a coffee and food place.

Tricia P.

Yelp
The food was some of the best we have ever had. The staff was so sweet and the atmosphere was so cute. A definite recommend!
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Had the white mocha. Starbucks is still better but was good. Girlfriend had the chocolate mocha and she liked it.
google avatar

Christopher R.

Yelp
Late breakfast on luscious lazy Saturday. A la carte eggs, local bacon, boudin, and fruit cup. Delicious medium roast coffee infused with pecan. Local business and personal service.

velma v.

Yelp
Very relaxed space away from the hustle and bustle but close enough to people watch. Loved the food and the beer and my friends were very happy with the coffee
google avatar

Gigi G.

Yelp
Lovely corner aesthetic with beautiful wood carved bar. If I were not just visiting NOLA for the week I'd probably frequent this spot in the French Quarter. The coffee was dialed correctly and I enjoyed its flavor. The pastries were fresh and delicious. The staff wasn't the friendliest but I'm cool with that. I'm not going to coffee shop to make friends. So if I'm French Quarter I'd recommend stopping here for a real coffee.
google avatar

Grace G.

Yelp
They're grumpy, but there is no finer cup or treat anywhere. Besides the caffeine ambrosia, their pecan pie and chocolate cake are divine. The struggle to find street parking is totally worth it.
google avatar

Eva A.

Yelp
Cute, saves the day by being open late, nice baristas, great breakfast options. Only place I went to several times during my visit to nola!
google avatar

Robin K.

Yelp
My omelette was delicious as was my chai tea. Our whole party throughly enjoyed this place
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
The peppermint schnapps is absolutely phenomenal here. My fellow compadres had the cappuccino here is also one of the best in the area. The gourmet chocolate chip concoction is overgrown, yet not lacking moisture and flavor, and the cheese cake is also the bomb. When you've had your share of tasty libations, venturing throughout the quarter, this is the place to reboot, and carry on. Been coming here for years, and will for years to come.
