I have lived in the neighborhood for many years; so first, a little history of this bakery. I do not remember exact dates, but the original owner opened the bakery in the 1980's and the pastries were delicious. Approximately 10 years ago or so, she decided to retire. After that the store (always a bakery) changed hands 2 or 3 times, and none of those people were successful. One gluten free owner lasted less than a year. Then about 3-4 years ago, the owner of Muffins decided to take it over. For some reason I did not visit it recently until yesterday and I wish I had gone sooner.
I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that the type of pastries the original owner carried are back and absolutely delicious. I definitely won't delay going back. The food for sure is 5 star, but the reason I am giving this bakery 4 stars is because of the terrible service I experienced.
The lady behind the counter had no clue what she was doing and made a mess of everything. She didn't know the prices, how to properly pack the tarts, etc. so that they would not get damaged and, on top of that she gave me one thing I did not order and left out the mini pumpkin pie I had ordered. She said she was new, but she can definitely use some help and some training.
Fortunately, I checked everything before I left and made her give me the right items and repack them properly. She didn't even have the brains to put the boxes in the bag before handing them to me and left me standing there holding the boxes in both hands trying to figure out how I would get them into the bag. Luckily a customer, who was waiting patiently, helped me out.
By the time she got through making a semi-disaster out of what should have been a simple task, there were 10 people in line outside the door waiting for service (the store is pretty tiny). Even though the pastries are out-of-this world delicious, I plan to wait a couple of weeks before I go back. Hopefully by then, she will have learned her job or gotten fired. Since the bakery is so busy, they should have more than 1 person behind the counter and at least 1 person who knows what they are doing.
