I am so glad I found this wonderful lil bakery in the Upper West Side! It is a total gem of Manhattan and I feel very lucky I stumbled upon it. The sign was so welcoming and the shop was warm and cozy. They have tons of options of sweet breads, cookies, pastries, pies, cakes and more. I could smell the delectable array of goodness from the street and felt drawn in. The staff were so kind and attentive. I absolutely loved the apple tart and had to try some of their famous thumb print cookies with homemade jam, perfect texture and taste! I was trying to save some to bring home to my kids but snacked on them throughout my trip and they were too good to hang on to. The Madeline’s were light and fluffy and so creamy! This is a must go to bakery when visiting or if you live around there consider yourself lucky! Highly recommend for special holiday treats, they had so many for such a tiny shop. Absolutely adorable and delicious!

This place makes some truly magical pastries and cakes. We got a rainbow cookie chocolate mousse cake for my wife’s birthday and it was one of the best things I’ve ever had in my life. It was perfectly balanced between sweetness and not being too sweet. The quiche is also delightful. All of their baked goods are great, and this is saying a lot, considering the fact that I usually do not enjoy baked the goods at all. I especially do not enjoy pastries, but at this bakery, I have had six different kinds, and I’ve loved every single one of them. The service is also spectacular, the women who work there are extremely friendly, and the prices are fair.

This is one of my favorite bake shops in New York City! Amazing little place on the upper west side. W. 70th St. between Columbus and Broadway. Every morning, the bakers come in very early to create the most exquisite offerings. And Susan is there behind the counter to welcome everyone with such grace. This place is such a gem! Thank you!

Absolutely incredible and charming bakery! Their gingerbread, a seasonal item, is divine. Not seen here: Purchased candy cane-shaped cookies, Madeleines, and Tunisian olive oil.

Epices Bakery in NYC is a hidden gem! The pastries, sandwiches, and desserts are all made with love and care. The croissants are flaky and buttery, the bread is freshly baked, and the cakes are moist and decadent. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the cozy atmosphere makes you feel like you're in a Parisian bakery.

Excellent quality cakes, tartes and delicious pies. Freshly baked delicious pastries. Very kind people who serve and knowledgeable about all Ingredients in their desserts. Perfect for every day baked goods and reliable for special orders for Birthdays, Weddings, and Special Events. Their holiday selection for Christmas, Hanukah, New Years, Valentine’s Day etc. knocks other Bakeries out of the competition.

Many years ago, when I lived on the westside, I used to go Soutine, a lovely french bakery! Well, about four decades later, I returned to their location and discovered an even more exceptional French bakery. Just waking in and being greeted warmly by Bebe, lifted my spirits as I began buying their delicious eclairs and cookies! They still make a fantastic chocolate bread-loaf that they sell at one of my favorite eateries: The Muffin Cafe!

I purchased two pieces of “napoleon” cake. The cream was frozen so when you bite into it, all you can taste is watery ice crystals. The pastry part was so stale, I couldn’t even cut it with a knife. Very far from French baking and very disappointing. Will not return.

What a delicious way to start the morning! My friend and I had planned for a day in central park, and wanted to pick up some treats to take with us for breakfast. I found this bakery on google maps, and it was only 2 blocks in from central park west. The shop was extremely cute - they had a patisserie fridge and more of a croissant/bread section as well. The folks working there were so kind, and seemed to know locals coming in - your quintessential neighborhood bakery! Everything looked irresistible, and I decided on a mini spinach quiche, while my friend got one of those and a peach croissant. We took our treats to Bethesda fountain and feasted! I was delighted to find that the pastry crust on the quiche was so buttery and divine, and simply melted in my mouth. It was probably the best quiche I've ever had! I will have to go back and try many more items off their menu!

Very tiny tiny place. I thought they have full of bread. I didn't check all the photo.i was little disappointed because I saw play at Lincoln center then walk here to get some bread for eat I. Train to back home. I thought more baguette or more choice. But they have few bread and small cake. I got croissants and brioche. I bite croissants they taste buttery and good I ate 1/2. Bring home. But brioche. It wasn't good. D little dry for my taste and not buttery or eggy at all. Dry little sugary small piece of bread. If I got small cake may be better... but I got go other place to buy some other bread.

Desserts were so beautiful, but we didn't try. Asked the staff for a pastry with peanut butter. She stated that they didn't have peanut butter desserts, but the shop around the corner did. Should have ordered something else, since the other shop was not good. We thought the other shop was a sister bakery, but it wasn't, which we found odd that the staff at one bakery would direct us to another. We would've been much better off grabbing a dessert from this bakery and getting tea elsewhere, since Epices only had coffee. Appreciated the staff being accommodating to my request for peanut butter and tea, but she could have had our pastry business.

Don't miss this fresh bakery right off of Columbus Avenue. We had the almond croissant which was delicious! Also, the apple tart which was good and fresh as well. All baking done on property!! Let's support small business and Don't miss this gem!

My favorite bakery in NYC so far! Their fruit tarts are a m a z i n g. If you need to bring something to a potluck call in the day before and they'll make one to your specifications ready for pick up in the morning! It's a really tiny space and there's no space to stay and eat so make sure you have a plan! Honestly a perfect treat to take to the park. Grab a coffee from solid state coffee nearby & enjoy together!

Great service, cute atmosphere. I had the almond croissant which was very good!! My friend got the chocolate almond croissant and I wish I had gotten that one instead. Will definitely go back!

Love walking into this tiny slice of bakery heaven. Their selection of baked goodies is mouth-watering. We've enjoyed their napoleons, eclairs, and more. We typically take them to the Lincoln Center fountain to enjoy. Go and be merry!

Was super excited to be in the area and go back to this incredible bakery. My wife and kids went in to pick out some treats. They got a lemon meringue tart, which we loved before. A chocolate dessert, a croissant and an eclair. The lemon meringue was as good as before. The chocolate was good but not fantastic. The consistency wasn't the best. The eclair was frozen and defrosted but was still partially frozen in the middle. The croissant was not flakey. It was no better than one I would buy packaged and sold in any bodega. So disappointed.

I wanted to spoil myself today and stumbled into Epices. When I opened the door to the shop, the air was filled with a delicious scent of butter. I waffled between a choux pastry and 3 different tarts. The shop person recommended the lemon meringue and I'm really glad I listened to her. I was only planning to have a few bites but I ended up eating the whole thing. It was the perfect balance of buttery, lemony and meringuey. I will definitely go back to try the others.

Cute neighborhood place, but unfortunately not good. Plain croissant was pretty bad, coffee was awful, almond croissant not great either. Cakes look nice, though.

Though she be but little, she is fierce! This tiny bakery is just a block from the shady benches of Central Park, making it the perfect stop on the way to a morning recline by Strawberry Fields or the lake. The plum tart. It's basically a square of sweet, glossy ruby that shines like summertime. It's a visual treat, so make sure to admire it before you taste...and then you'll see that it tastes even better than it looks. The plums are gorgeously tart, but not overwhelmingly so, and the tart crust itself has a faint, sparkly sweetness. I adored the bright pink patches of crust where the plum glaze had seeped into the tart. Savor it! A jewel of a pastry. Long live Epices!

The most devious yellow/gold Birthday cake with chocolate hazelnut cream in between the layers with chocolate fondant icing and marzipan flowers! The 10 inch cake served 16 of us with lots left over. It is a tried-and-true traditional French bakery. Everyone raved about the cake!

I have lived in the neighborhood for many years; so first, a little history of this bakery. I do not remember exact dates, but the original owner opened the bakery in the 1980's and the pastries were delicious. Approximately 10 years ago or so, she decided to retire. After that the store (always a bakery) changed hands 2 or 3 times, and none of those people were successful. One gluten free owner lasted less than a year. Then about 3-4 years ago, the owner of Muffins decided to take it over. For some reason I did not visit it recently until yesterday and I wish I had gone sooner. I was more than pleasantly surprised to see that the type of pastries the original owner carried are back and absolutely delicious. I definitely won't delay going back. The food for sure is 5 star, but the reason I am giving this bakery 4 stars is because of the terrible service I experienced. The lady behind the counter had no clue what she was doing and made a mess of everything. She didn't know the prices, how to properly pack the tarts, etc. so that they would not get damaged and, on top of that she gave me one thing I did not order and left out the mini pumpkin pie I had ordered. She said she was new, but she can definitely use some help and some training. Fortunately, I checked everything before I left and made her give me the right items and repack them properly. She didn't even have the brains to put the boxes in the bag before handing them to me and left me standing there holding the boxes in both hands trying to figure out how I would get them into the bag. Luckily a customer, who was waiting patiently, helped me out. By the time she got through making a semi-disaster out of what should have been a simple task, there were 10 people in line outside the door waiting for service (the store is pretty tiny). Even though the pastries are out-of-this world delicious, I plan to wait a couple of weeks before I go back. Hopefully by then, she will have learned her job or gotten fired. Since the bakery is so busy, they should have more than 1 person behind the counter and at least 1 person who knows what they are doing.

After a day walking around I was starving and we found this quiche place on Yelp. We went in and everything looked delicious. We finally settled on the ham quiches. I was a bit disappointed she wasn't able to heat them up. They were cold but still so good!!

Went to pick up a $40 Pecan Pie paid for and told to come back the next day! Poor customer service. Next time will get 3 pies at Fairway!

I fully believe this to be the best bakery in the UWS! Croissants fresh out of the oven are unbeatable. Don't miss the fruit tarts.

I visit Epices far too regularly. Everything they sell is perfect, and the service delightful. Can't recommend them enough. If they were good at Instagram, there would be a queue down the block.

Wow! I just stumbled into this cute bakery located on a side street and all the pastries looked so good. The smells in the bakery were amazing. I tried the pain au chocolat and the cheese danish - both were so good. I can't wait to come back and try some of their other sweets.

After waiting on the line for Magnolia Bakery for the kid's cupcakes, I stopped into this minuscule bakery on a whim. The kids chose a lemon meringue tart, husband picked a croissant and I snagged a baggie of lemon-poppyseed-turmeric sables. H O L Y C O W. Seriously amazing. As in do not stop anywhere else. Yes, it's pricey, but when your husband *literally* licks the inside of the bag in order to not leave behind a single flakey crumb of the buttery croissant, it is WORTH. IT. Seriously worth it.

bakery with the most beautiful pastries you'll ever see! blink and you'll miss it, it is super tiny and located on w 70th st. their almond croissant was so soft and pillowy, the best I've ever had! I will definitely be back to try more of their selection. stop by if you are in the area!

Perfect hidden gem of a bakery right off Columbus. The highest quality baked goods, artistically made and perfected. Omar and all the staff are the kindest people. We grab baguettes several times a week (they sell out so we sometimes call ahead and they save one to the side for us). My children request outings to stop by and grab some of the cookies that never disappoint. It's a bright spot in the neighborhood that leaves you feeling elated and uplifted after visiting.

Wow. My favorite place to get pastries in the neighborhood and trust me when I say I've tried everything from Columbus circle to 125th. I've been here 4 times in 2 weeks! The croissants and danishes are buttery, flakey, and delicious. The staff have been very nice every time too!

This bakery is really, really impressive! The croissants are to die for and such high quality. The best place to go on the UWS for pastries made by a true artisan. The baguette is wonderful too and not at all sweet (like a lot of American bread).

Épices Bakery is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! I walked in when it opened in March and was pleasantly surprised to find a taste of Paris on the Upper Westside. The baguette is perfect--wonderful flavor and crunch with tender, chewy crumb. The pastries, both sweet and savory, are buttery, flaky and not greasy. The béchamel pesto tomato tart was heavenly! And the key lime tart was sublime--plenty of delicate lime flavor with fresh lime zest sprinkled on top. The pastry tasted homemade--a buttery shortbread texture. The staff are friendly and welcoming. It has a real neighborhood feel. I highly recommend it!

Me and my roommate stopped for breakfast and the service was just as good as the food. The person who helped us explained everything and gave the best suggestions. The food is amazing and so pretty to look at!

Oh. my. goodness. I have enjoyed many a croissant in Paris (and several in NYC), but this place takes the cake (or brioche, as it were). Truly, the pastries here are as good, if not better, than the best in France. The selection is still pretty minimal as they are new, but everything is as fresh as can be (made on site by a baker who worked in France for decades) and just so flavorful. The pain aux raisins is divine, the croissant and pain au chocolat are simple perfection, and the plum tart tastes like sunshine. The desserts are excellent, too -- not too crazy-sweet. To top it all off, the staff is so warm and inviting (and the interior is charming). Can't recommend enough.

So this morning I died and went to heaven after discovering Epices Bakery. I have been trying to find a "real" French bakery on the UWS since moving back this past November and found it this morning. For all the Yelp reviewers who list Magnolia, Levain and Breads under best bakeries understand that Magnolia is a cupcake factory, Levain is a cookie store and Breads is a bread shop. They are not traditional bakeries. This is a true French bakery. I ordered a plain croissant, almond croissant, cheese Danish and pain au chocolate. It was like being back in France. I can't wait to go back and try all the other wonderful looking items in their displays and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. The baker worked in France for twenty years as a baker and knows his way around pastries and cakes. I didn't try their baguette but it looked like the real deal and I can't wait to go back and keep sampling all their other offerings. The other good thing about it is that's it's two blocks from where I live!
