"Iconic chef Heinz Winkler really put his Residenz hotel on the culinary map. After opening this place in 1991, he remained at the helm, steadily building it up to become a benchmark for classical fine dining at the highest level. Upholding the tradition of the establishment is his son Alexander, as maître d'. A newly assembled and highly motivated kitchen team is sticking to the restaurant's tried-and-tested formula: classic cuisine with modern touches made with excellent ingredients – the turbot with smoked eel lardo bacon and a beurre blanc sauce is a shining example. Opt for one of the set menus or order from the à la carte selection, which includes Winkler's own legendary specialities – these are as much of a draw for diners as the elegant Venetian-style setting. The wine list is impressive and Alexander Winkler's recommendations are spot on. Friendly service." - Michelin Inspector

Great vibe in here. Popped in on our way back from an event, got a table easily as a walk in, ordered snacks and drinks. Good service and friendly staff.

LateNight JazzBartok

Google
Very disappointing service. Was offered and brought water but then had to prompt for a drinks order. Had to ask three times before a bread side order was brought and had already finished the salad, and fries with the main course took a while to come. 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill, without even the courtesy of saying it's optional or it being mentioned on the menu before you order, so had that removed. Daytime menu not very interesting so likely won't be back. If you're in a prime west end location charging prime prices you have to do better than this and train up inexperienced staff.

Stopped in for brunch midweek. Lovely atmosphere. The chicken waffles were nice, though I think should double the amount of waffles and some garnish on top. Staff were very friendly if a little on the slow side to take orders or remembering to bring all our drinks.

Stunning location. We came for brunch. The food was tasty, although portions small. I would have liked some additional garnish (similar to previous post photos). The waffle chicken was good but half the plate was empty, and could have done with additional syrup and a spicy sauce. The French toast, again was good but a much smaller portion than previous. The staff were good and the place is lovely inside. I got a bloody Mary cocktail that was delicious.

We visited here for breakfast after seeing some images of their food and how good it looked. The waiter* who greeted us was polite, professional and well presented (as were all the staff that we were able to see). We came just after opening and already there was a few people inside and more arriving as we sat which speaks volumes. Having seen images of the eggs Benedict and ham I chose to order this to see if it was as good as it looked... it absolutely was. If I am visiting somewhere new, I always go for this if it is on the menu and this has been the best by far anywhere yet! My wife had the mac-muffin and everything about that was great too. We could tell the patty was absolutely of great quality and cooked fresh, not a reheat or such. Combined with two well made and well presented coffees, this was a great experience overall and definitely a place we will be venturing back to when we are in Glasgow. *I have since learned that our "waiter" was in fact the general manager, Martin. Professional in any sense.

The food here was fantastic! Arrived for brunch, so only half of the menu was available, the remainder is available at 12 noon. Full of flavour and well presented. Sadly they ran out of sweet tea, which we were excited to try! The decor downstairs is cute with all the foliage. There is an outside seating area under a canopy, which is very picturesque. Upstairs (inside) is nice but not as bright as downstairs. Parking on a Sunday can be a little tricky but there are plenty of side roads with spaces.

Google
A sad day... This was the best breakfast in Glasgow, but no longer. Post makeover the tables and chairs are nice, but the more open area makes it noisier and it is less charming. However, the biggest change is to the full breakfast. The incredible pork belly is replaced with pretty standard bacon. Homemade potato scones replaced with basic ones. The tangy beans replaced with tinned. The haggis and hash brown options have also been removed. Everything felt like a step down. On top of that, it seems overall menu prices have crept up. Has been our favourite breakfast spot for a while now but I doubt we will be back.

Good food although it took a while to come out. No sourdough bread was disappointing.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try Epicures for a long time and finally did this weekend for brunch. We both went for a veggie breakfast which was nice but for the price (which is a lot more than your usual breakfast) you'd at least expect some bits of toast to be included as the breakfast wasn't very big. The staff wasn't very friendly, and I sadly wasn't too impressed with the food either. The restaurant is nice though.

Yelp
Nothing Scottish to eat here. Traveling American and couldn't eat. Nothing against the restaurant but it's just food I can get anywhere. The food was presented well and looked fresh. To a discriminating chicken and waffle man, these looked ordinary. Again, I didn't eat!

Yelp
Can't believe it's taken me so long to discover Epicures! What a great place for Sunday brunch. Very hipster decor and lots of space to move, unlike many of their rival West End counterparts. I particularly like the use of old railway carriage luggage racks on the mezzanine walls. On this occasion I kept it simple with poached eggs and a slab of smoked salmon on toast, always a good standby Sunday brekkie for me. Just the job. Their coffee was pretty good too. Thank you Epicures - I'll definitely be back to try out the full veggie breakfast soon!

Yelp
Where do I start...I absolutely adore this place :-) Epicures is located away from the hustle and bustle of byres road and has a lovely relaxed charm about it. It is split over two levels with charming booths on the upper level perfect for groups, while the lower level houses the bar, benches at the window (ideal for people watching!) and smaller tables for 2-4 people. The twinkly fairy light tree is a lovely touch. I've been for dinner twice now and couldn't fault anything I've had. The menu has a Scottish / Mediterranean feel and is changed to suit what's in season. Highlights so far are the Epicurean sharing Board which includes halloumi, figs, quiche, mozzarella and olives, the west coast scallop starter and the chicken breast wrapped in Parma ham with red pimento main course, sooooo good! The drinks menu has a varied selection with their espresso martini a nice way to finish the meal before jogging on to a pub! Only slight issue has been when paying as on both occasions I've booked through 5pm to get 20% a la Carte discount and on both occasions I've had to get them to amend the bill as it wasn't deducted but that's not worthy of a star deduction in my opinion, 5 stars all the way! Yum yum yum!

Yelp
My heart was originally set on having something sweet for a late breakfast/brunch type meal, but any time I see there is a veggie fry up option, I tend to choose that over anything else. I'm not a veggie, but am quite a fan of veggie foods and veggie foods tend to be a healthier option anyway. The atmosphere of this place isn't what I expected. In the past, I was always told that this place is always filled with west end mums and their babies, and pretentious people, but I didn't feel that sort of vibe at all. There was a good mix of people here and we fit right end. We were sat right behind this massive (real trunk, fake leaves) tree in the centre of the building, which was nice. We ordered water for the table, although I totally wanted a cider (they have my favourite lemon and ginger cider) but it was 10am, I couldn't bring myself to drink that early in the morning. The veggie fry up came with a perfectly poached egg (how is it done?!), a huge slice of mushroom, beans, tomato, a tattie scone, spicy veggie sausage, veggie haggis, some spinach and a nice chunk of crusty bread. What a delightful plate of food. The veggie sausages had a hint of unexpected spice to them which added to the overall taste of them. Probably the best veggie sausages I've had in a very long time. The veggie haggis was....well, it wasn't meat haggis, hehehe! Everything else was nicely cooked and I enjoyed it. Apparently they have the best brownies in Glasgow...or something like that, but when we asked if they had any, the waitress said "um, yeah I think we have some somewhere downstairs". That didn't really scream piping hot out of the oven or even somewhat fresh, so we decided to pass on the idea of getting a brownie. A couple of girls sitting next to us ordered one, however, and it looked a little too raw for our liking. Maybe we'll try it again next time. I'd like to come back for some lunch/dinner so I can get a cider..that would be nice.

Yelp
'Oooft, I think you'll find I left my Blackberry in the Beamer along with my organic free range gluten free hand woven purse... can I pay with pouts and sunglasses worn indoors on a dark day?' Yes folks, its most definitly Hyndland (or little Edinburgh) up this neck of the woods and EOH fits the bill without even trying a leg. Soooo, initially I thunk to myself that this crowd were about 5 mins away from smelling my Paisley roots (geez a sniff aw yur roots big man) and scooping me out the door, until I realised that 'Hey, I've got square rimmed glasses on, I've got a funny scruffy haircut, I'm wearing pinstripe trousers and a sparkly cowboy shirt... I bloody well belong here man!'... then I looked at the prices on the menu. I opted for a coronation chicked snadwich, not because it was a stand out on the menu, but because I was not entirely convinced that i wanted to blow my weekly budget on one lunch (over a tenner for a burger?! On a lunch menu?!). The sandwich then. Tasty aye. Something special? Hmmmm. All I could think of as I chomped away was the price. Yes it came with some leafy and some potato salad, but nothing really stood out and announced 'this is the money.. right here!' Bottom line: Pretty (read: trendy) looking joint, good service, nice food, but for me overpriced by at least a couple of quid a dish... that's Edinburgh for you!

Yelp
Epicures of Hyndland is the first restaurant I ate in when I moved to Glasgow, so this review is a bit overdue! It was a cold, dark evening in Glasgow and I was starving after traveling quite a distance, and their Wild Mushroom Risotto came to my rescue. From the street side Epicures is very inviting with its glass walls, ambient lighting and lit-up tree as the centrepiece of the restaurant. They have charming staff and the restaurant in general seems to set a good tone. It is always busy, not sure I would call it lively. It is a great place for a cocktail with good ambiance, could be romantic or just catching up with a friend. The food changes seasonally, and they usually have some specials that they are trying out, which end up on the next season's menu. Definitely don't expect to see the same menu all the time at Epicures. Some things are better than others, but I appreciate their adventurous dishes and the use of seasonal ingredients! The baked goods are quite impressive and made fresh daily. If you get to meet the baker, she is a good laugh. I think the desserts and breakfast pastries are my favourite thing about Epicures. The mornings I pass through, their coffee also never disappoints me; the hard part is trying not to make a habit out of those fresh, sugary, buttery pastries.

Yelp
Favorite thing about Epicures is the atmosphere - - this place is absolutely adorable inside and out (small patio to the side). The staff are friendly and attentive. I came for breakfast and I found my meal to be average - I ordered a breakfast roll with scrambled eggs (simple I know), but I have to say I've had better elsewhere. The Eggs Benedict looked very nice and seems to be a popular choice. I want to go again for lunch or dinner to taste other options. Dogs aren't allowed inside, but they should be permitted if you sit on the patio

Yelp
I must confess that I have developed a slight love affair with Epicures since being on maternity leave. I've done what I promised myself I would never do and have joined the brigade of West End mummies who lunch! I blame Epicures and it's tremendously wonderful cakes entirely. (As do my pre-pregnancy clothes that remain at the bottom of the wardrobe!) It's a popular spot in the centre of Hyndland and booking is usually advisable. Mid-week we often get a table and take advantage of their special weekday offer of soup, a sandwich, a cake and a coffee for £10.95. It's a pretty significant saving compared to the price of buying all those items individually. The soup changes daily and is always on the right side of yummy. It was carrot and coriander at my most recent visit but they have slightly more unusual offerings at times. There are 3 accompanying sandwiches to choose from - pastrami on rye, crayfish and baby gem lettuce and a tomatoe and mozzarella combo on toast. All good so far but then the cakes come along and knock everything else out of the park!! I've been in Epicures more times than I care to admit and every time I visit there is a different array of cakes and sweet treats greeting you as you walk through the door. From mountainous meringues to coconut and raspberry lamingtons (a NZ speciality - look it up!) to caramel eclair cake (with actual cadburys eclairs on top) to vanilla berry cheesecakes and everything in between. It is actually torturous to choose! Part of the Epicures experience for me is going up to the counter and gazing longingly at the cakes, making my decision. Yesterday's cake was quite possibly the best yet. A squidgy mint chocolate layer cake complete with minty green frosting and mint aero pieces adorning the top. Seeing is believing! The ridiculous part is (and I mean 'ridiculous' in a good way), that each slab of cake is served with a big dollop of cream, fruit coullis and a token portion of strawberries and blueberries (I continue to convince myself that the fruit counteracts the cream!) To top it off, you even get a complementary square of chocolate brownie with each hot drink - and, yes, it's so good that I always polish that off as well. Well, it'd be rude not to! The ambience is nice (candlelit, lots of wood), the staff are friendly on the whole (there's one miserable waitress who always seems to argue the bill!) and the rest of the menu looks pretty good and fairly reasonable too. Oh, and did I mention the cakes are AMAZING!?

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Epicures and it's always busy (I only live round the corner) so they are clearly doing something right! We often pop in for coffee and share the cafetiere for 2, less than £4 for two cups of coffee each, which is served with a lovely mouthfull of chewy brownie. The food is good and although not cheap I don't think it's overly expensive either. The ploughman's lunch is delicious and the pasta dishes in the evening are very good.

Yelp
Consistently good, Epicures is close to my flat so handy for a quick coffee or, as it was today, a spot of brunch. Somehow we managed to get a table for two, never easy between 12 and 2 on a Sunday! First things first, yes, this is in the West End and yes it is a little overpriced comparing it to other nearby eateries, but I'm pretty sure the clientele are well aware of this! The service is ok, always friendly and welcoming and as ever the food was good. I ordered Eggs Benedict, which came with two perfectly poached eggs, some delicious smoked bacon and a good (if a little too tart) Hollandaise, the dish was simple but delicious. My partner ordered the French Toast with nice crispy bacon and swapped her maple syrup for some Hollandaise as we well. Food-wise my only complaint was of my own making, I must remember and ask for bacon to be crispy! Aside from that it was all very tasty and disappeared quickly. A couple of glasses of fresh orange rounded off the order (in total it was £16, not too bad for brunch for two people, is it?). I do like this place, it's well laid out, the home baking (which we didn't sample today) is consistently good, the decor is warm and inviting, and did I mention it's close to my flat? Consistently good is how I opened my review and it sums up Epicures for me. Never outstanding, but consistently good.

Yelp
I've been here once for lunch after hearing very good things and I have to say some parts of it I loved, and others I didn't enjoy. The layout to the venue is quite open, with lots of tables and space. There's also a more quiet dining area up the back where I was seated. I had the burger with cheese which was generally nice, though the burger itself was lacking some seasoning, all in all it was okay. I had a cake after and wasn't dissapointed, the cakes here are outstanding. Had a peanut butter and chocolate cake, was very tasty. The one major drawback I have to coming back is the service. Though the servers were generally friendly, the speed of the service was very poor. It took a long time to get anything, or anyone's attention. This said it was a busy Saturday but I'd still expect it to be quicker.

Yelp
Epicures of Hyndland, insert your own pun on the name, I don't have the time to think one up; their slow, awful service robbed me of it. I went into Epicures last week, mistakenly deciding eating out would be quicker than cooking given my ravenous state. When we arrived we were asked to wait to be seated, cool, no probs, we waited, then a few minutes went by until we just sat somewhere. Menus appeared as though this was the plan all along, bit weird. We ordered a coffee and a gin, these took 15 minutes to arrive. We were ready to order food and proceeded to order the burger (pink) and some small plates for my partner. After a few minutes someone came back to tell us the kitchen wouldn't cook the burger anything below well-done. So, that doesn't inspire me with confidence in the meat their serving, having worked with a kitchen before I know that's code for this party was made yesterday. I switched tack and went a different direction. No probs really. 5 minutes later they came back to say they didn't have what I had ordered after all. At which point I tried a third order, finally, a combination that made it through. By this point we've been in the restaurant for nearly 30 minutes. About 30 minutes after ordering or food arrives, at least it's hot. The mussels were nice, but lacked a garlicky punch. The meatballs were delicious. When we came to pay the bill was extortionate. Why? Because everything we had tried to order was still on it. It took another 5 minutes to get this adjusted and allow us to pay. Now, throughout this there wasn't much in the way of acknowledgement that this was a shit show. I quickly counted the customers and the staff, there were 12 customers and 5 staff, not including the kitchen. That's close to 2:1, I can't work out how the service was so slow and so poor. All in all, I left hungry and pissed off.

Yelp
Can't comment on the food for the following reason Parked up walked in and after a short while I was asked where I wanted to be seated, nice day so I picked outside Sat there for almost 20mins (18 to be exact if your pernickety) completely ignored, no menu, no drinks, no order nothing! Stood up, walked out and went down to the street to somewhere that wanted to take my money

Yelp
First visit to this gem in hyndland. Had morning coffee and cakes to die for! See photos. Will def be back as they do good deals for evening meals with wine.

Yelp
This is another review that is probably more of a 3.5 but 4 seems too high. I went out for brunch with my dad and we wanted to try somewhere new. We were in the westend so we decided to go to Hyndland and see where we could find. From the outside Epicures looks really inviting and it was quite busy so it seemed a good choice. I really like the feel of the cafe and there is a lot of seating so I can imagine it would be quite easy to grab a seat anytime. The breakfast menu is pretty standard and doesn't offer anything particularly exciting or different but there is quite a lot of choice so it would be pretty easy for most people to find something they liked. I opted for Eggs Benedict and my dad went for scrambled egg and toast. We also ordered a couple of lattes, which were really nice and strong. The food arrived pretty quickly. My Eggs Benedict was a good sized portion and it looked delicious. The parma ham and the muffin were both lovely. The eggs, however, were overcooked and didn't have the nice runny yolk that I love. The hollandaise was also quite bland even when I added lots of pepper. My dad's scrambled egg was quite dry and pale and was quite a small portion for just under a fiver. The meal was just slightly disappointing and I feel this place has a lot of potential. I wouldn't rush back.

Yelp
In my never-ending quest for finding THE best place for Brunch we wandered into this lovely place one Saturday late morning and also again a few weeks later one Sunday early afternoon. This cafe/restaurant is a lot bigger than I first expected it to be as there is more seating at the very back, up the stairs. This is where we were first seated and it was a nice, cosy wee table we had besides lots of cool mirrors on the wall. This place gets BUSY at the weekends, so be prepared to wait a wee while for a table, especially if dining at peak eating hours. Luckily we only had a short wait on both occasions; the 2nd occasion a couple hadn't arrived for their reserved table (they were nearly 20 mins late) so thankfully the manager (?) seated us at their table, which I thought was nice of her. On our first visit I had a soya latte (cappuccino on 2nd visit) with poached eggs & smokey bacon on brown toast. Everything was really delicious and made/cooked perfectly. Afterwards I had a MASSIVE piece of raspberry & white chocolate cake which came with fresh cream, berries & coulis. Woah. It was nice but WAY too big for even me to finish! Yowsers. On our second visit as it was a Sunday the menu was slightly reduced compared to the Saturday so I couldn't have my yummy poached eggs with bacon on toast again so instead I went for the nearest thing, the Eggs Benedict. My boyfriend also had this (on both occasions, as he is an Eggs Benny FIEND!) and we both agreed it was really good, I liked the addition of rocket to it and I much preferred the Hollandaise sauce compared to other places (it wasn't as thick/creamy) that sell EB but my boyfriend thought it wasn't as good. I must also note that alongside your (very nice indeed) coffee you get a tiny wee square of really tasty, moist chocolate brownie, mmmm...nice touch! I really like the decor and feel about this place. It's not half as posh/snobby as I first thought it might be which is obviously a GOOD thing as I feel as though I can't ever really relax in places like that. The staff here were all really efficient, helpful & friendly without being too in-your-face. Service is also pretty quick but not TOO (suspiciously) quick. Another thing I can't stand about eating places is feeling rushed...even though this place is very popular & gets very busy we never once felt rushed. I definitely will come back here not just for brunch again but also to try their lunch or evening menus. They have a great set menu (5-7pm) which is £12 for 2 courses or £15 for 3. The dishes available sounds really good & I've seen this place lit up at night time and it looks so pretty with all the wee fairy lights. As we were leaving the table beside us had ordered a Blueberry & Frangipane tart thing & it looked immense! If they have that on their menu next time I will most certainly be ordering that. NOM. So in the words of Arnie; I'll be back...

Yelp
I was visiting here for a meeting and was impressed by the layout - there's a nice open dining area as you first walk in with a long bar, and then a more intimate dining area up the top of the stairs. We were seated in a booth which was pretty comfortable and meant we could get on with our meeting without being disturbed. I had a quick look at the menu and not very much took my fancy, so I opted for the soup of the day (white onion and fennel). It came with a piece of bread and was around the £3 mark so thought that was pretty reasonable. It definitely tasted like fennel and was well seasoned, but mostly unremarkable. The bread was nice and fresh though. What was really a let down was the service. For the amount of time I was there (more than 2 hours, closer to 3) we were rarely checked up on for more drinks, tea or coffee and getting the bill seemed to take quite a while for no obvious reason. I was left with a pretty "meh" feeling, but they earned the upgrade to 3 stars purely for the acceptable soup at a reasonable price.

Yelp
My experience in Epicures yesterday annoyed me so much that I felt the need to come onto Yelp! This is the third time I had been there, and the service is always awful, food is very average and very overpriced. I only ever go there out of convenience, for example yesterday I had a 20 minute wait for my prescription at the pharmacy, so thought my boyfriend and I would pop in for a coffee while we waited. We went in and, as always, there was the awkward minute where you see the sign that says you should wait to be seated, but the waitresses keep walking straight past your nose. Eventually a bored and aloof looking waitress strolled over to us and instead of greeting us nicely she just raised her eyebrows at us in an exasperated manner. I asked for a table for two and she turned around and kind of gestured at some empty tables and said "Just anywhere" which annoyed me because she obviously didn't give two hoots and also it just added to the confusion of whether this actually is table service or not. So we sat down, waited 5 mins for her to take our coffee order, and then sat for another 20 minutes. 20 minutes to make an americano and a tea?! Seeing as we had only come in to wait for a prescription, my boyfriend went over to the counter to ask the guy whether he had started making it, and if not just to leave it cos we had to go. The guy behind the counter scowled at my boyfriend and then said "oh right, I thought you had left. Do you still want it?" which I just thought was OUTRAGEOUS. We were sitting in the window right infront of the counter, and also our order had come from a waitress. His statement was just laughable really - so rude, so inconsiderate and so arrogant. The whole place comes across as arrogant. And no, we did not want our drinks anymore, so we walked straight out and I tried to make icy eye contact with the counter guy but he looked away, smirking. It's a shame because I want Epicures to be a pleasant experience - I love the decor and the location. It has potential, but the food is far too expensive and average and the staff are just so awful and rude, making you feel like they don't want you there. Sort it out, Epicures!

Yelp
I'm not often in Hyndland but found myself there quite recently when I passed Epicures. I was in need of a pint, but the waft of coffee in the air and attractive looking interior drew me in. All I had was a coffee, so as their food goes, I can't comment. I did think - from what I saw - it was a bit pricey, but it is Hyndland, yah?! The two staff I had dealings with - one who took my order, one who brought my coffee to my table - offered polar opposites in how to do customer service. The girl who took my order was affable, witty and pretty - and everyone likes that combination. The other who brought me my drink was indifferent, snooty and seemed like she couldn't be arsed. Not so good. The interior in Epicures is pleasant and the coffee was fairly good. At this stage I'll give it three stars - average. Decent coffee, mixed service, a bit pricey, attractive interior. Okay, I've changed my mind already - I'll give it two stars - one for the initial service and the other one for the coffee and interior. If the second part of the service was better, it could have been three, but it was down right poor, so two it is! I may or may not return - but just now, it'll go down as an average.

Yelp
So, we dropped in here for brunch of a weekend. I'd heard such good things and wanted to try it for myself, and having just been paid it seemed like a perfect opportunity. The place was packed. Absolutely rammed, but we were happy to sit in the window and eat so it was fine. This is clearly a place beloved of the Hyndland parental massif. There's a box of kids' toys in the corner, and there were a few prams scattered about. Service was fine, if a little stressed - but to be fair, the place was really busy. We ordered a pot of tea, coffee, and two eggs benedict. Which was.... well fine I suppose. The eggs were ok, the hollandaise was alright, the muffins not toasted properly. Bit disappointing, considering that it wasn't cheap. Tea was good, and the milk came in a wee novelty wotsit. So yeah, it's ok, but I'm not rushing back.

Sara M.

Yelp
Quite surprised that this place currently has 3.5 stars as it's wonderful and never fails to deliver something delicious. Epicures is quite big and serves as both a cafe, a bar and a restaurant. I love how bright and sunny it is in here and on a warm day the outdoor seating area is perfect. They always have a stunning display of cakes on the bar which is the first thing you spot when you walk in. They have an extensive menu from light lunches to evening meals. Everything is beautifully presented and I've always enjoyed the food I've had here. It gets really busy on weekends so it's best to book a table if you don't want to queue.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Terrible service. Incredibly slow. I asked a chap who looked busy at a till for a glass of wine, who in turn notified the bar staff. 3 bar staff were all chatting, as the bar area was empty of customers, and yet the wine was not forth coming. I asked again and only then did I receive. I have also asked them about their vegan options as there are none which are obvious on the menu. A staff member pointed to an option which they could 'make vegan' Being in the heart in the west end of Glasgow when many many restaurants provide vegan menu's, I find it very disappointing, and they have also not answered my email. As a customer in a restaurant I expect to have a choose and to meet basic dietary needs. Being vegan and/or vegetarian is just as mainstream as and we all deserve choices.

Yelp
If I could give Zero stars I would. I have given this place a few chances putting previous bad experiences down to 'off days' but never again. After every visit I've found myself ranting in frustration. It doesn't suit me. The staff are beyond useless & disinterested.

Yelp
Located slap bang in the middle of cool Hyndland Road Epicures is a mecca of West End cool - as soon as you walk in the front door you are presented with a large enticing display of cakes and sweet treats, at this point I was ready to forego brunch and jump straight to dessert! Thankfully I resisted! The decor is a wooden meets industial wonderland, there is a tree sprouting in the middle of the lower dining area and foliage climbing the industrial style columns. There is wooden floors, walls, tables, chairs, booths....you name it and it was wood. My favourite feature was the tons of natural day light pouring in through the huge windows which wrap around the front of the building. I liked it - very chic and casual, perfect for brunch. We were shown to our table, thankfully I thought to reserve because it was jumping. I would say if you want to make a special trip here definitely book in advance. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. My only slight irk was that there were 3 errors with our order - we were given a poached egg when a fried egg was ordered (but the fried egg arrived about a minute later) we were given Jam when nutella was asked for (this was fixed promptly) and we asked for a full breakfast without the egg but it arrived on the plate (we just moved it to a spare plate, no biggie) I am pretty sure the errors came from the kitchen rather than the waitress, this is to expected as the place was heaving and they are just trying to get food out fast. It didn't detract from our experience but I thought it was worth a mention. I could have happily eaten absolutely everything on the brunch menu but in the end chose the Eggs Benedict - smoked back bacon, 2 poached eggs, rockets, creamy Hollandaise served on a toasted English muffin. Our food arrived about 5 minutes after we ordered it which was pretty impressive as we thought we would have a reasonable wait. There was heaps of tasty thick back bacon, I would have liked it a little more charred for my personal taste but it was perfectly delicious. 1 of the eggs was gloriously runny and the other was 'just' slightly over cooked, I am pretty confident that the Hollandaise was made freshly in-house as it was utterly beautiful and creamy. A gorgeous dish which I would happily order again. Obviously after walking past all of those made in-house beautiful cakes there was no way I was leaving without trying something, my niece and I were just about to have a wander down to the counter to decided what we wanted when the waitress produced a cake board....I know....a cake board?!...tis' the stuff of dreams. Only because it is my birthday my niece and I decided to get a warm brownie to share because it sounded so good then order another one each, decadent but give me a break it's very difficult turning 24 (again!) For my individual cake I went for the pecan pie which was scrumptious. It was presented beautifully with a raspberry coulis, clotted cream and practically a whole bushel of fresh raspberries. Pecan pie is one of my personal favourites and this certainly sits up there with some of the best I have ever had. The brownie was nice and dry on the outside and luscious and gooey on the inside. I would definitely recommend both. A fantastic brunch for my birthday and I would definitely go back for food again - as long as I have a table booked.

Yelp
Fairly average in all respects except price - as Chris D. says, a few quid more expensive than it should be. I suspect the exposed air conditioning pipes on the roof aren't actually functional but have just been placed there for effect. Perhaps sums the place up, style over substance.

Yelp
Been here loads of times for coffee and the cafetière for 2 is great value. Had the breakfast today which is the most expensive item on the breakfast menu so I expected great things! It tasted good but the tattie scone had been deep fried which I personally don't like and the portion size was small for the price you pay. I expected to have more than 1 small, poached egg, mushroom, tomato and piece of toast. The eggs benedict that my wife had was lovely and cooked perfectly. Will be back for the coffee and eggs which on there own get 5 stars!!!

Yelp
Arranged to meet a friend for coffee after the gym and was worried I would be too casual as looked quite fancy in a west end , hipster rustic kinda way :p We were seated quickly and was lured in by the homemade soup which was delicious. However I did get a bit of food envy as the breakfast brunches were being delivered to the table beside me. Hoping to try out this place properly in the next few weeks as was very impressed. However I deducted a star for the speed the waitress took our order, I want a skinny latte but waitress just heard latte and didn't wait for me to find out the milk options, as would have opted for soy.

Yelp
I used to go there for a weekend breakfast when ever I could ! Love their environment, lovely staff, and delicious foods. I tried the veg breakfast, French toast and the granola!! All were great! But I do love the granola for a healthy choice and for now it is my fav choice! Their coffee used to be nice, but last time I notice they changed their beans! Or the way they made it ! Found it just as an average coffee! But previously I really loved their coffee!! Will always go there if I have time, and will take my friends & family with me as well for a breakfast !

Yelp
Enjoyable lunch at Epicures today. Lovely looking place when you go in. It took a little while to get service, but that was fine as I am patient. The food was fine: croque monsieur for me. The soup to accompany was very underseasoned (and I don't like a lot of salt!). The coffee was absolutely excellent! I will definitely return and try something from the bigger bites menu. Looked very nice.

Yelp
I want to give this place more stars but I just can't. Hopefully today was an off day. Mum and I were meeting a family friend for some coffee/nibbles. As it was a gorgeous morning, we decided to sit outside. We quickly got given our menus, but asked to wait until our friend arrived. When our friend did arrived we all ordered coffees. About 10 mintues later our food order got taken, which was just one chocolate croissant. At this point I noticed our exact coffee order being taken to another table, who had sat down and ordered far later than us (in fairness, they may have been inside and I may be jumping to conclusions.) My friends croissant then arrived, and I said we were still waiting for coffees. The waiter said they were just having a slow day... Hmm, on the one hand I get it, it's brunch, it's busy, but equally it's brunch, have more coffee machines?! When our coffee did arrive, it was lovely and came with a tiny brownie nibble. Our second round of coffees took just as long. I then went inside and waited awkwardly at the bar to ask for the bill. The bill took a good 5 minutes to come. The food looked great and hopefully my next review will be with a higher starred rating!

Yelp
I paid my first visit to epicures and I must say I enjoyed the experience. Friendly staff, although it was very busy so the service was slightly slow, especially for drinks. Would return.

Yelp
Great girlie lunch today. Started with Prosecco then Shared a meat platter leaving us room (or the excuse) for coffee and fantastic cakes from their bakery range for dessert- Lovely! Great service, busy as we hadn't booked but only had to wait 15 minutes and were well attended during this time!

Yelp
I've sat in twice now for breakfast. I ordered the same thing and it came very quickly and the waitresses were attentive. I absolutely love their granola/yogurt/honey. It has fresh fruit in it and it's soooo good. The lattes are good too-not the best I've ever had but good. They come with a delicious brownie bite. A bit too decadent for me but I did try it-really excellent. If you have a child the toys are a bit young for even preschoolers. I can't be completely sure of the excellence of their food till I try their warm breakfast menu but it will be hard to pass up that delicious granola.

Yelp
I visited Epicures of Hyndland on a drizzly Saturday afternoon with my parents. Looking for somewhere local and with parking for them I suggested here. Prior to visiting I had passed by many times while walking to work, and thought the big windows and wooden decor looked appealing. It really was a mixed experience. When I arrived I had to wait 20 minutes to be seated as the place was packed. The waiting staff who dealt with me then were exemplary, reassuring me every 4-5 minutes that table would be available as soon as possible, offering me a seat while I was waiting etc. When my parents arrived we had another 5 or so minutes wait before we were seated. All this was completely understandable, and I suppose a good recommendation for Epicures of Hyndland if it was this busy of an afternoon. When seated our order was taken swiftly, with staff apologising profusely for our wait. We ordered coffee and cakes from the menu. Or order arrived within 5 minutes. Glad to be seated finally I drank my fairly small coffee quite rapidly. It was at this point that a waitress arrived and attempted to clear all our cups and plates away when only my coffee had been drank! Having worked in cafes before I understood that it is very bad form to remove any dishes before all the party have finished eating! It was really bad! They were clearly very keen to rush people through their orders so they could ferry the next group in to our seats! This happened again when my mum was still finishing her cake - she was trying to eke it out so we could stay longer that 10 minutes in our seats! This may sound like a small complaint, and perhaps if we had been there on a quiet Tuesday morning it would have been a different story However, I think the management need to work on staff training if they want their customers to enjoy the trendy surroundings in a relaxed way, and not feel totally harrassed and not keen to return!

Yelp
Having overdone the alcohol a tad on Saturday night we popped in here Sunday lunchtime and Boy, This place sure puts the Cure in Epicure. They make a mean Latte and the full breakfast is a must! Sausage, black pudding, bacon, fried egg, mushrooms, tomato.... OOFT! Hangover cured! Not the cheapest place but all cooked to perfection.... I'll be back!

Yelp
I have been aware of Epicures for quite sometime but I rarely visit this part of the city except on a Saturday when I am visiting the nearby farmers market in Partick and then the place has always looked so busy I haven't even tried to go in and instead have just driven straight on by. However, a couple of months ago I was in Hyndland on a weekday and popped in for a coffee and a cake. The experience was so good that I have been waiting for an excuse to go back ever since and today was the opportunity that I had been waiting for! Even though it was just gone 12 the restaurant was relatively empty being the Easter holidays and it was easy to find a table but first I had a good look at the cakes on the counter; what a spectacular collection, there is some serious baking going on here! As if the cakes were not enough in there own right the way that they are served takes coffee and cake to a whole other level. Others have commented on how expensive this place is but at £3.25 for the cake and £2.45 for a generously sized and excellently made cappuccino I think that is an amazing price. Have a look at the photos and judge for yourself (the photos are something of a first for me, as a food photographer I usually use a top-end DSLR, carefully controlled lighting, reflectors, etc, etc but for these photos I used my new I-phone and while they are not what I would ever want to give to a client I must say that I am rather pleased with the resulting snaps!)

Yelp
The best bacon roll in the West End and an ideal place if you are on your own and enjoy a bit of people watching. Soft white roll with plenty of butter with 3/4 slices of bacon. As a big fan of bacon rolls I think its the best I have eaten till date. The price is typically west end and costs £2.50 a roll.

Yelp
Overpriced, boring, and poor service. As others have said, the waitstaff is quick to want to the turn the tables around and get you out the door as quick as possible. This was also our experience when we dined there for dinner recently. We started with the crab cakes, which were actually pretty good....not fantastic, but quite palatable. My husband ordered roast beef with yorkshire pudding, etc. Sunday dinner sort of thing. It was fairly standard pub grub you can get anywhere for under a fiver, however it was full on restaurant priced--somewhere in the £12-14 range (there isn't a menu online, so I am unable to give exact details here). I ordered some sort of langoustine pasta dish. The langoustine was subpar--it was essentially six small prawns with noodles, and the red sauce was the standard canned tomato soup--Heinz or Campbells, perhaps. Just dreadful. My son had some sort of hollandaise drowned fish (monkfish, I think) that arrived in a soup plate. He didn't finish, which is odd for a teenage boy who really isn't too picky about what he eats. I spied the English couple across from us dining on "Steak Hachè"....this has become a running joke with my husband and I because the dish amounted to what appeared to be a wee Whitecastle burger with six little chips, stacked like Lincoln Logs on the side. They arrived on wooden chopping boards and were priced at £15 or thereabouts. The decor is a bit silly as well....all the fake ducts that obviously aren't functional in any way. Reminds one of Brazil (the film) or something....too bad the restaurant isn't anywhere near as interesting.

Yelp
After a long day walking around in the heat, we were glad to find this place along what looks like a hip neighborhood street, with good food options and the waitstaff was warm and caring and attentive. Our food was made to order, our desserts were very tasty and our drinks were lovely! We sat outside, as weather permitted and got a good view of a Glasgow evening in summer.

Yelp
Absolutely baffled as to why this has such a low rating... great coffe & food any time of day, nice diversity in menu range, and a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended for tourists and locals alike.

Yelp
Well we were reaching Halloween end of the month however those spider webs were real. Thought you have to be have an extremely patience to wait wait and wait. It is not the lack of staff 6 behind counter but lucky if you get your order or being serve. Attention to Customer is a main priority in catering. Table was sticky ... As my patience was boiling they do eventually get a tip as I was seriously fed up to wait again for my change with 5 customers at that time surely that was manageable no ? :-(

Yelp
I was at this place on a Saturday. It was quiet when I arrived. The waitress seemed disinterested and begrudging but eventually served us. The coffee was decent and the food acceptable but overpriced. The main disappointment started with the food. My friend is a slow eater and we were having a good catch up during our food, but a waitress kept coming over and trying to take away our food unfinished. On their attempt within 10minutes my friend gave up and let her take it. As soon as the food had left the bill had arrived. Although we hadnt finished our drinks a coloured lady that we think was a manager came over to tell us that she "needed the table". Definitely avoid.

Yelp
Ordered the saffron and honey chicken...my 3rd piece was pink, cold and raw. Manager apologetic and took all details from me. Needless to say I haven't heard from them since. My romantic night out turned in to a frantic journey home, a call to NHS 24 and two days in bed. I am 5 months pregnant so the worry factor was heightened. My hubby didn't order the chicken and he was also ill but not the extent of me. I won't be going back to Epicures and won't be recommending the restaurant to anyone

Yelp
Stopped by here one busy Sunday morning for a coffee and was really impressed by the design of this place. The large windows let you enjoy the surrounding architecture in this nice part of town. They seem to be a victim of their own success though, being constantly heaving resulting in slow service despite seemingly being well staffed.

Yelp
Really tasteful atmosphere, friendly service, many lovely touches, good coffee. Only thing they could improve on is the cakes themselves, which look gorgeous, sound delicious from the names, and I'm guessing pure, quality ingredients, but in my opinion didn't quite live up to the expectation that created. A little dry, I like my own cakes better!

Yelp
Wasnt sure what to expect from this place initally however, attended on a saturday night for a meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a buzzing atmoshophere when we arrived and this continued. The menu could have done with a little more choice, there was around 5 starters and 6 mains courses and I noted that they ran out of a couple of things on the menu, limiting the choice again!! Starters and mains were generally enjoyed all round but the vegetarian main option was unfortunately not up to the same standard as the other main courses and was a little disappointing. However, the service was fantastic, the 2 waitresses were efficient, professional and friendly, a rarety these days. Will definetly return to sample more.

Yelp
After recent poor service and cold food this place was back at its best. You may wonder why I gave it another go - quite simply this place is the nicest environment in Westend. Food was great and so was service. Keep up good work.

Yelp
Quite pricey but gorgeous neighbourhood dining, lovely presentation and best of all fantastic food!
