How to Help: Fight Hunger and Support Local Restaurants in Portland | Eater Portland

"I found that Equitable Giving Circle buys CSAs from farmers and producers of color and distributes those shares to families of color not currently served by social services, runs a weekly free pantry for BIPOC Portlanders, delivers food boxes to families, and accepts donations to support both farmers and communities in need." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Portland Organizations and Grassroots Efforts Feeding Black Communities | Eater Portland

"I learned that the Equitable Giving Circle began by buying produce from farmers of color as a CSA and donating those boxes to communities of color facing food insecurity; it has since expanded to run weekly free pantries for BIPOC Portlanders and is developing housing initiatives." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

The 2021 Eater Portland Holiday Gift Guide | Eater Portland

"What began as a program to buy food from BIPOC-owned farms and distribute it for free has evolved into a broader reparations-focused organization that provides care packages, plants, classes, and free events to the community; donors can give to specific programs like the CSA or to general operational costs to support that work." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Incredible and invaluable resource for BIPOC community members. I received CSA boxes when they first started and when I moved back to PDX recently I've had the opportunity to get super healthy food at their BIPOC pantry market. Even though it's a smaller organization its maybe the best food box I've gotten in the portland metro. Idk how they do it but they do big things with what seems like less resources. They give with respect, dignity, and with attention to providing nutritious foods sourced from BIPOC farmers. Incredible organization.

I have been moved many times by the joy, love, and care with which EGC moves throughout our community. I have witnessed first hand the thoughtful, and nourishing gifts given to my family, and many other BIPOC families in food, clothing, gifts, and supplies. I was so lovingly surprised one Mother's Day when a special box which included chocolate, candle, lotion, and plants, amongst other things was left at my door. Beautiful new clothing and school supplies for my son has also magically appeared at my door. I've been to events where they've supplied hand made and other beautifully chosen gifts, books, fresh flowers, I can't even count all of the amazing giving they've done. On top of raising money and providing for our community's homeless individuals, and families in need. Thank you so much EGC.

I love this organization and everything it does, from providing a weekly food pantry and regular deliveries of CSA shares for families who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color (with produce grown on BIPOC-owned farms), to educating the public with weekly Lunch and Learn sessions, to partnering with Mxm Bloc to provide immediate direct support and mutual aid to families. They do things in a nontraditional way that prioritizes BIPOC families and specifically Black women. The folks who operate EGC are brilliant, dedicated activists who are making a real difference in the Portland area by doing things differently from the way most traditional nonprofits work. Other orgs should be paying attention!

I am lucky to be a volunteer at the weekly pantry. Everything EGC does is so intentional and done with so much love. We are excited every week to put out that gorgeous produce and awesome pantry items, but nothing’s better than forming relationships with our community.

EGC is a carefully & thoughtfully run organization that has done an amazing amount of community care since it was organized a couple years ago. Portland’s city government could learn a lot from the way they get it all done: with an urgency, enthusiasm, empathy & compassion!

I absolutely love this organization. The power of utilizing donations to buy amazing food from Black and Brown farms in order to bring freshies to Black and Brown families is a double economic impact and a powerful idea. EGC does this and so much more with such love for community and intention.

I'm thankful to this org for getting resources to our Black and Brown communities. The resource helped me through last spring, as well as some friends who are low income. I loved the atmosphere of the pantry is always joyful and the volunteers and staff polite and helpful. Thank you dearly!

I am so proud to see the evolution of this non-profit startup in just 2 years. They feed community without fail weekly, provide self-care tools, workshops, networking and community building. They are a small but mighty staff working with a scrapy budget. My first and largest wholesale order was them which helped expand my brand recognition and ways I can support our vibrant community.
