Boutique Hotels Still Can’t Be Beat in Tulum

"Era Hotel & Spa Tulum is set in a leafy residential neighborhood on the western edge of town, which means urban life isn’t far away — but the immediate surroundings are verdant, quiet, and exceedingly private." - Mark Fedeli

Boutique Hotels Still Can’t Be Beat in Tulum

"Set in a leafy residential neighborhood on the western edge of town, urban life isn’t far away here—but the immediate surroundings are verdant, quiet, and exceedingly private; balconies face an interior courtyard with a pool, and while a hut on the beach might feel more private, the modest size means it’s incapable of feeling crowded." - Mark Fedeli

"The first wave of stylish boutique hotels in Tulum was concentrated in the hotel zone along the beach, but lately the town has been filling in with noteworthy openings as well. Arrived after a 10 hour flight from London at 10pm to find that the hotel wasn’t open, this was very scary as you can imagine. I tried contacting the hotel via phone, WhatsApp and Instagram, to no avail. I’d give this hotel 0 stars if possible. Worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, which is quite remarkable considering I didn’t even step foot in the place. Don’t (attempt to) stay here.

Extremely disappointing stay – ruined my belongings due to mould! We had a very unpleasant experience at this hotel and would not return. Our room was located on the ground floor directly opposite the pool, which meant there was absolutely no privacy. The curtains were far too narrow to cover the full window, so anyone walking by could see straight into our room. We ended up using a chair to hold the curtains together just to feel somewhat comfortable – completely unacceptable. The room also had a strong, persistent smell of mould, which was truly awful. It wasn’t just a minor issue – the smell soaked into our things, and now, over a month after returning home, some of our clothes and bags still stink of mould. I can live without the clothes, but I had very expensive bags with me that are now completely ruined – I’ve tried everything, but the smell won't go away. To make things worse, the wardrobe only had two hangers, so there was no proper way to unpack or hang up our clothes. For a hotel that claims to offer a comfortable stay, this felt incredibly basic and poorly thought out. And as if that wasn’t enough, on one of the nights there was no water at all – no warning, no explanation, and no apology. Just completely unacceptable. I rarely write negative reviews, but this stay was beyond disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone – especially if you value your belongings, comfort, or basic standards of hospitality.

I had an amazing stay at Era in Tulum! The hotel offers a unique, serene atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of Tulum. The design is stunning, with local touches that make the space feel both luxurious and authentically connected to the area. The staff was incredibly friendly, always going above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and comfortable. The spa facilities, especially the cold plunge and sauna, were perfect for relaxation. The food and drinks were fresh, delicious, and well-prepared. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait to come back! Highly recommend!

I had a last minute booking and was a little stranded in Tulum for a day. I booked here and as soon as I walked in felt so at ease. Jumped into the refreshing pool. The Argentinian lady at the front desk was so sweet and hospitable. The room was clean & decorated nicely and the shower was excellent! The location is right off a road with nice restaurants and shopping. As well had a good little taco stand for those like me who like my street vendors!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Era Hotel and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The customer service was top-notch, with Teresa and Katy going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. The location couldn't have been better, situated in the heart of Tulum, with easy access to restaurants and bars. And let's talk about the hotel itself - it was truly beautiful, with stunning architecture, and nice amenities. We couldn't have asked for a better hotel experience and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable stay.

Argentinian lady at the front desk was super helpful and lovely! This is a hotel in a great location, with spacious rooms that don't get hot during the day. Superb cocktail bar just next to the entrance. During my visit, the hotel's wifi was not great, so if you are working remotely, check out Nuud cafe just around the corner, reliable wifi for calls.
