15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Located in the Eastern Townships, near the town of Valcourt, this no-fuss sugar shack is exactly what those looking for as few frills as possible will appreciate — plastic tablecloths and all. With its worn wood walls and corrugated tin roof, and features like traditional boilers and old-fashioned sap buckets, it’s a place often looked to for its preservation of tradition. Food here is served buffet-style, with a BYOB option, and includes all the usual suspects along with a few homey touches like toast grilled on a wood oven. It’s $30 per adult and $10 to $15 per child depending on age." - JP Karwacki

Wonderful experience, and as this was my first Cabane a sucre I felt welcomed enough by staff and answered any questions that I had. was an incredibly fun family vibe.

Absolutely great outing. The food was very good, and the system for letting tables access the buffet round-robin worked very well to avoid long lines. The maple toffee on snow was great and there was no shortage. A small animal farm and a secluded location really completed the setting!

Delicious food, served cafeteria style, one table at a time. Friendly staff. There are sheep and small horses and a sliding hill (sleds are available on site).

This is THE BEST sugar shack I've ever been too in Quebec. Wow!!! I won't tell you where it is because I want to keep it a secret. It's my precious (ref. Lord of the rings). Fabulous experience. Felt like I was invited to a family get together. Authentic and delicious. 3 thumbs up! I'll be back! It's a beautiful spot too.

We came from Winnipeg for a Québécois experience, and this cabane à sucre did not disappoint. My French is a bit rusty and my English husband doesn’t speak any French, but the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the small venue gave it an intimate, authentic feel—very different from some of the more commercial sugar shacks I’ve visited in the past. The food was traditional and exceptional—definitely not a great spot for vegetarians, but perfect if you're looking for classic sugar shack fare. There were lots of families there, including big, multi-generational ones, which added to the lively, community vibe. The petting zoo was a delightful bonus. Merci à tout le personnel d’avoir fait découvrir à mon mari anglophone une véritable expérience franco-canadienne avec chaleur et gratitude. Nous reviendrons.

I would rate this lower because the food was not so good. Also, not as many options. I'm rating it higher because my son had a great time and that's the most important thing to me. They had a horse ride, sheep to pet and my son's favourite, sleds to go sliding down the hill. He had a blast and did not want to leave. The service was also quick and very polite. The bathrooms were nice and clean too. There could have been more options for the buffet.
