15 Best Sugar Shacks (or Cabanes à Sucre) Near Montreal | Eater Montreal

"A charming location in the Eastern Townships operating from March 5 to May 1, folks flock in for the meals as much as they do for the view (hence the name). All told, over 15 different dishes make up the all-you-can-eat formula here, which comes with a BYOB option. The cabane’s own boutique makes all manner of taffy, candy, infused sugars, and pie from maple syrup. Prices are $35.66 for adults ($30.44 on Friday nights), and go from $11.31 to $21.74 for children." - JP Karwacki

Small sugar shack with a beautiful view. The service was great and everything tasted fantastic. I'd recommend putting some maple syrop into your coffee ;)

Lets start with the reservation After booking our reservation and receiving a confirmation i got a call to inform me that there'd been an error in the system and they had to cancel my reservation. I agreed and made a new one. The day before what was suppose to be the first reservation i receive a call to confirm we'll be there, and i had to explain what they told me about it being cancelled... So they made a mistake, my 1st booking had never been cancelled and they didn't even apologized 😏 Secondly, they make us pay for kids but when serving they only serve enough portions for the adults. They rush you to eat because "the service needs to flow" and there is no time to wait. When we asked for food refills, the waitress seemed annoyed and very impatient. A friend came few minutes late and they made her eat what was already on the table, even if she paid full price 😒. We were constantly asking for refills since the portions where so small even for the desert, it felt like we were begging for the food we've already paid for. On top of that the food was barely warm 😔 We expected more from a sugar shack supposedly reviewed as one of the best. Going to the sugar shack is supposed to be a relaxed experience not a sprint. We pay 41$/adults and 2 hours is simply not enough. It feels like we've been robbed I give 🌟🌟 for the beauty of the shack, the smoked bacon and the firepit.

This small, quaint and authentic feeling sugar shack was great. The food was traditional and super fresh. The desserts where excellent as was the maple toffee served on ice. Price was not cheap but well worth it.

Sadly not a great review. It starts with a windy road that's filled with very big potholes and odd bumps. The food is very average and it costs a pretty penny. Service is unfriendly and not what I would call acceptable. If you're looking for a place to have a family gathering, I'd personally skip this one.

Good atmosphere and great service, however they still use plastic containers for their creton when they could be using reusable containers. They don't serve alcohol but do allow you to bring your own but they do not offer ice buckets for your wine or beer bottles. I'd pay a few dollars extra for that. Other than that the food is home made and excellent.

I can barely type. My fingers are sticky with syrup. My face is sticky with syrup. Everything is syrup. It's the best sugar shack I've ever visited. Which is not much, but still. My brain is syrup. I've eaten so much and I'm angry at my stomach because it refuses to take any more food. I love it. Please visit, swim in syrup with me.

Food was average : wet eggs, dry potatoes and desserts that tasted as if they had been made 2 days ago. Service was disappointing: one of our servers was talking/yelling to us most of the time.

Yelp
This " cabane à sucre " exceeded my expectations. It retains a very traditional look and atmosphere. The all wood cabin is moderately sized so for people who want to avoid the larger and rushed versions of other sugar shack, this is a great place. The food is traditional as well but good quality and taste. It's all you can eat. Service is efficient and super friendly. You can bring your own wine or beer. Finally the maple toffee ("tire d'érable") on the ice is a great experience. In particular, it's real maple toffee contrary to many other place and since it's a small place, there is no rush.

Yelp
Great location with a view - super friendly service and great homemade food. Eggs ham special bacon, baked beans, meatball stew with pig feet, and all the extras Bring your own wine / highly recommend Belle cabane à sucre avec vue magnifique - super service - repas traditionnel + boulettes avec pied de cochon - œufs jambon bacon fèves au lard - je vais y retourner et je le recommande

Yelp
Great traditional sugar shack with a view. The food is good, especially the pork jowl bacon! Make sure you save room for desserts. They have 4.

Yelp
The place is nice, small and cozy sugar shack. Food was good with generous portion... but it is just the typical eggs ham bacons beans potatoes meat balls etc... And where you pour maple syrup on everything! Staffs are so amazing and welcoming though. Makes the experience lovely and memorable Oh very important, its a Bring your own Wine!

Yelp
The food I would rate 5 stars but everything else at this place gets a zero. The service is lousy, they're not generous with the food, and this place has no atmosphere, none! At other sugar shacks I've been to, they're continuously replenishing the food at the table, not at Hilltop. I had a very meager brunch, when the eggs and ham were gone they didn't replace any of it, I was with a large group (2 tables), I'm sure other people would also have had a bit more. I asked for some extra bacon they brought a small bowl (about the size of a desert bowl) of bacon which I had to share with a table of about 12 people. I felt rushed as soon as most of the food was eaten, they took everything away and brought desert. I don't understand why they were rushing the place wasn't even half full. This place has no atmosphere, not even a bit of background music. 2 other people from my group also told me they would not be going back. It's over 1 hour drive from Montreal, the food is good but for the price and lousy experience I'm sure you'll find many other places just like it.
