12 Mayfair Restaurants For When You Don’t Want To Spend A Lot Of Money

"Ergon Deli is an all-day Greek deli on Maddox Street making everything from homemade spinach and feta pies to hot and cold mezze, like falafel, hummus, and tabbouleh on warm pitta. Everything here is priced between the £5 and £11 marks, and it’s open from 8am till 7pm. It’s solid rather than spectacular, but it’s great for a quick snack or casual lunch. Heads up that it gets busy, so expect to wait at peak hours." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Ergon Deli Review - Mayfair - London - The Infatuation

"Mayfair may be one of the few places on the planet where it’s easier to buy a tiara owned by a tsarina, than an affordable lunch. Luckily, Ergon Deli has £4.90 homemade pies, salads and cold and hot meze dishes starting at £5. This Greek deli also has a good collection of peinirili, which are basically boats of dough filled with egg, feta and meat. Open from 8am to 7pm, they’ve also got you covered for breakfast and dinner dishes, from honey yoghurt bowls to octopus on hummus." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

One of the best breakfast spots I’ve ever been to 😍The food was absolutely delicious, and every egg dish we tried was cooked to perfection. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and served just right. Highly recommended if you’re a breakfast lover ♥️

The food is extra ordinary I love everything about it. The green egg is amazing very flavor full the flavor of the cheese is balanced it’s a meal I will come back for. The egg avocado is also amazing with the mixture of cheese just wow. The Americano is smooth and nice the cappuccino with almond milk is also amazing. The granola pancakes is also wonderful I would love if it has more Greek yogurt!! The service was bit slow maybe because it was really busy other than that everything is so wonderful

I’ve ordered the Shakshukah pie and I was delicious. A mixed taste of margarita pizza with eggs, and the potion can feed two people. I would totally recommend. The service was slow as I was sitting in the other side of the cafe, and there was only one waitress working.

This is one of those restaurants I never really got the hype about, but after trying it, I totally get it now. It’s actually really good. I joined the online queue and by the time I arrived, my table was ready. Super convenient. The service was a bit on the slow side but nothing too bad. We were recommended the egg dishes by our waitress and apparently they’re one of the most popular items. They were seriously delicious. I do wish the eggs were cooked a little harder since they were quite runny. For anyone who doesn’t like runny eggs, I think the only options are either very runny or fully cooked, so just something to keep in mind. But I still really enjoyed them. The pancake was nice, not the best I’ve ever had but still good. The coffee was amazing though. We had either a V60 or a Chemex, not totally sure, but it was excellent. I’d rate this experience a solid 10 out of 10. I’d definitely go again and next time I’ll for sure get the egg dishes again. I also want to try a different dessert. I had my eye on something with chocolate and tahini, so that’s on my list for next time.

Amazing Greek breakfast we have in London. We were there early as per my son’s recommendation as this place will always be crowded. Very great service and friendly staff on top of extra ordinary peinirli, which are basically boats of dough filled with eggs, feta and meat. Sakshuka which is their signature dish is simply delicious and the sourdough is very good too. Another recommended restaurant to try in London.

Ergon Deli was a fantastic culinary experience! The Greek pancake was rich and fluffy with creamy yogurt, granola, and fresh berries. The Benedict was perfectly baked with runny eggs and bold, savory flavors.

Ergon is one of my favorite breakfast spots in London Cozy place with a lovely view, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious —especially their waffles, which were amazing! The staff were friendly and the service was great. Highly recommend

Had a nice breakfast! We tried the poached egg on bagel “Koulouri” and the “Peinirli” both were excellent choices, full of flavor and beautifully presented. The coffee was also great, pairing perfectly with the meal. The café itself is beautifully decorated with a simple yet inviting atmosphere. They offer a nice selection of pastries and cakes, making it a great spot for a sweet treat as well. The staff are friendly, and the service is quick. I’d recommend visiting earlier in the morning as it gets busier throughout the day!

Yelp
Everything I had was good but I felt a bit odd paying 9 quid for a small bowl of yoghurt and berries. The cup that they gave me for my tea also really bothered me because it did not have a handle and I was always worried about spilling hot liquid on myself because I couldn't grip the cup properly.

Yelp
Perhaps the shortest review I will ever write, but in spite of not having tried anything else in this deli, I have to recommend it for the coffee. At £2.90, it's the highest-quality cheap coffee you'll drink in London. No sugar necessary. The vibe is cozy and relaxed, and the menu abounds with plenty of options to satisfy your appetite, and whilst I can't speak to the quality, those pastries do look pretty legit.

Yelp
Honest review: Presentation and front of store look wonderful. Pastry display and decor are very inviting, until you place order and talk/interact with staff- not so friendly as the feel of the place. Great assortment of pastries. No gluten-free options. Option to buy take way or to-go very slow. Busy place due to good food. It's better as a sit down cafe. Assortment of imported Greek goodies included in store. Menu does not reflect prices

Yelp
Following the wonderful Elite event nearby, we wandered off to find some food. We had been looking for a Lobster Bar after reading Alex's review of it, but I misread the map and ended up down near here. We were going to go into Ping Pong, but it was full - and then spotted a Greek restaurant which was only nearly full. Now I'm sure that many of you have been to Greek restaurants - well this is much more modern (with the exception of a complete lack of mobile phone reception inside!!), although it might try a little too hard in places. For example, our cokes arrived in jars. The majority of the menu are sharing plates, and we opted for two between the two of us and that was plenty. We had the spreads and bread selection and the meatballs. There was no trouble substituting one of the spreads, swapping out the salmon spread for more feta. Of course the ironic thing was that while I liked the feta spread, the missus didn't because she's not a huge fan of smoked paprika. The cold mezze came first, quite a while ahead of the meatballs. There were two types of bread, one quite soft and the other harder and more rustic. The meatballs grew on me - firstly they're not balls, they're more of a Turkish kofta size and shape but obviously Greek in flavour. Plus they went very well with the lovely spreads. The texture was interesting, as there were raisins in there, and the flavours too as they were covered in a hard Greek cheese and crushed pistachios.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab a small bit of food, and on a wet and cold night, Ergon seemed to fit the bill. It's a nice place, but a little cramped. There's a deli downstairs, where you apparently buy a lot of the ingredients for the menu items, and I would definitely pop back to check that out, as the quality of the ingredients in what we had seemed very good. I opted for a plate of spreads and bread, at £10, and my other half got some odd-sounding meatballs, for £9. One of the spreads was salmon, so I requested to have that removed and get more of the more-appetising-sounding spicy feta spread. There was a bit of a language barrier (ie, I only speak English, and the waiter thought he did, too) so ordering was a bit tricky but got it in the end. My plate came out first, about 15 minutes before the meatballs. It was served on a very heavy slate with 5 slices of bread - 2 a farmhouse style, and 3 a bit artisanal-y. I had 2 scoops of the feta, a splodge of aubergine stuff, and red tzatziki. I'm not sure what made it red - well, more just not-white really, but it was my favourite. The aubergine was nice, but I didn't like the spicy feta spread. It was really heavy on the smoked paprika, which I don't like (and wasn't listed as a main flavour) so I didn't really have much food, to be honest! Plus we didn't have enough bread (and why wasn't it pita?). I didn't have any of the meatballs, but my husband enjoyed them (but not really very much until he started using some of the leftover spreads from my food to enhance them). The service was fine, the ingredients good quality, but the value for money was bad, and the food just wasn't really exciting enough for that 4th or 5th star. A fine place to go, though, and I think would be more suited to a group of 4 people. The menu is pretty limited - less than what shows on the website - so go with people who aren't picky, share some meze, and you might enjoy it a bit more than me!

Yelp
Having just been living in Greece and Cyprus for about three months, I was excited to come across Ergon and learn that this shop features espresso drinks made from beans sourced from some producers in Greece, plus an array of deli products from Greece. The clean, open, airy look and feel of this cafe and deli actually reminded my husband and I of a coffee and deli shop we frequented in Kolonaki, a neighborhood in Athens. To add to the environment, there were two ladies conversing in Greek a couple of tables away from us, which took me right back! We had stopped in for specialty lattes, although the traditional Greek pastries out on the countertops were absolutely tempting! We were a bit disappointed when the barista called us up from our table to pick up our lattes and they were served in paper take-away cups; part of what we love about sitting and enjoying the full essence of specialty coffee is sipping them from actual coffee cups. From now on, even if we think it's obvious we're staying because we sit down at a table, we'll be sure to specify we are there to-stay (if we return here and at coffee shops in general). Unfortunately, the paper cup smell distracted from the aroma I was trying to pick up in the coffee itself (pretty much all I could smell was the paper material). The latte was a bit more on the milky side, so it was difficult to detect and appreciate the flavors of the coffee itself (although it wasn't completely absent from my cup). What I really enjoyed about this latte was the silky, smooth foam on the top. The lattes were missing latte art, but it's possible they don't do that here; otherwise, this was probably because they were covered with lids in a take-away cups and thus it was unlikely we'd open it to look inside (which we did, since we wanted to enjoy them in the shop). I had read they serve a couple types of drinks here like they do in Greece, such as the Cappuccino Freddo and Greek Coffee from a Briki. Thank you for the bit of nostalgia, Ergon! One note to add upon reading the business info listed and a few reviews that suggested this is more of a dressy and pricey establishment: Ergon is a casual spot during the day where you can get a coffee drink and pastry for less than £10, and/or pick up deli items to take away.

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch honestly because it was the only place open in the area on a Sunday. Pleasantly surprised by how yummy it was. It has a cute, relaxed atmosphere. Lots of fresh, healthy items on the menu plus an assortment of baked goods. They also have breakfast. Service was good.

Yelp
Great restaurant near Baker street! It's a bit pricey but after having gotten a little homesick, it was surely a very good choice. Reservations recommended.
