Best Barbecue Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"This humble eatery in Avondale has grown into the West Valley’s most hyped spot for in-the-know barbecue enthusiasts. Eric’s Family Barbecue nails not only the usual meats — brisket, ribs, pulled pork, turkey — but higher-difficulty specialties like pastrami and beef ribs. The spot utilizes oversized offsets smokers and mesquite wood. Service is cafeteria style, an evolving menu is scrawled on butcher paper, and a few seats sit in the shade outside. Other popular orders include golden-fried tacos dorados and a cheesy, no-frills elote that deserves a place on your tray." - Chris Malloy

So here’s the deal; we ended up at Eric’s Family Barbeque because a friend told us they actually have beef ribs, which are basically extinct these days. And let me tell you… they did not disappoint! The ribs were massive, the brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the seasoning on the meat was chef’s kiss. You can tell they know what they’re doing back there. We also grabbed the mac & cheese (made with actual real cheese, none of that fake neon stuff) and onion rings, both were solid choices. The mac was creamy, the onion rings had that perfect crunch. Honestly, the food across the board was delicious. Now, here’s the thing… it’s definitely on the pricey side. Like, "special occasion BBQ” prices (it was over $100 for 2 of us). And it’s a bit of a trek for us to get there. But honestly? Totally worth the one-time trip just to finally sink my teeth into some legit beef ribs again. So yeah, Eric’s isn’t gonna be our weekly hangout, but if you’re craving BBQ that actually lives up to the hype (and want to feel like a caveman gnawing on a dinosaur bone), this is the spot. 🦴🔥

Drove 30 miles from a $68 lunch that was extremely disappointing. I ordered the turkey and my husband had the pastrami. Both sandwiches were served in cold buns and tasteless. The side were hot. The beans are very good. The Mac and cheese not so much. The atmosphere is very back yard BBQ. The prices are steep for subpar food. Very disappointing.

Hello all, I have a game changer for you today. I am assuming at this point everyone has at least heard of Eric's barbecue and if you are lucky then you have tried it. Some of the best and most tender barbecue and sides that you will ever try. What brings me here today is that we were driving by early Sunday morning and saw that they now offer breakfast!!! So we made a U turn and went to see what the new breakfast was like. So I got the beef brisket omelet with all the fixings and my girl got the smoked turkey omelet. I was feeling particularly adventurous, so I asked for a side of hash browns and pancakes and that is where the game was changed. You only need one pancake that is shareable made with real butter and made from scratch in my opinion and the syrup; oh my!!! This is the #1 pancake in Arizona in my opinion and you have to experience it to believe it at least once in your life. I will be going back many times to get that pancake. The omelettes are amazing as well and I highly recommend them as well. The hash brown needs a little more help. It needs a little more crispiness to me. One of the top barbecue spots makes great omelettes like no other and a pancake that will change your life. Who new!?! Eric's family barbecue never disappoints!!!

This spot was suggested by a family friend of ours. We really didn't know what to expect. Upon showing up we were met with a good size menu of choices. While our family was trying to decide, and couple of regulars ended up behind us. Trying to be polite we offered for them to go ahead and to our surprise they welcomed our new customer overwhelmed vibes and reassured us we were in good hands. That customer was right bc after that exchange, we were welcomed warmly on being supported on how to order. It made the whole process smoother. The food was incredibly tender and flavorful. The bbq sauce choices were great additions and the free arcade made for a good past time for those who finished early. My family and I truly enjoyed our experience and will be coming back again! Thank's guys for the wonderful hospitality as we are also new to the West Valley!

Google
It was ranked among some of the best in the valley … for a reason. We live just a block away & come here often. Food portion is generous & less salty compare to Rudy’s. Love their coleslaw (crispy & fresh).

Google
Eric's BBQ has the most delicious bbq I've had in Arizona and other states. Fast and efficient service and plenty of seats. Eat in or take home some of their fabulous food. You won't regret it

Google
I really wanted to love this place and have been craving authentic BBQ Points for: atmosphere, burger was good, pulled pork itself was good, 1 good worker. Points off: rude under dressed waitress -1star Price was very high for quality and quantity -1star $6 sides- good but not worth it. Small amount and not fresh They run out of sweet tea at the machine- you’re out of luck. Sauces aren’t anything to write home about- but the house sauce is good. Spicy is lacking flavor. If you’re southern or Midwest - this place won’t do it for ya. Comparable to dickeys. Fresh and hot Burgers take 20 min so it’s awkward if your party orders other things The pulled pork is very tender. Good meat to bun ratio. Fresh buns. Burgers were delicious. (They do offer to bring everything out at the same time). Mac and cheese was good. Not worth the price- portions are okay but a $20+ burger… Clean. Enjoyable atmosphere. Nicely decorated. High AC for the summer heat. Meat counter guy was friendly and helpful. He’s the only reason service got any stars. The two counter girls were a bit too caught up in socializing/ on their phone and rushed us through quickly and had attitude-to the point she wrote the wrong name. She was also very inappropriately dressed. I don’t want your crop top and whole butt severing my food. This ain’t a hooters. That’s also a health code violation. Her whole stomach and cheeks were out- nothing to the imagination. She also glared at everyone and just had a pissy face. Felt weird to be watched eating. (Also atleast have a nice body and/or good attitude to pull it off if you don’t)They have a selection of local beers. As well as free to play games. Small things to note: the menus are taped to the wall brown bags? and the amount of flies is annoying. Sauce is watery. Very heavy mustard influence.

Google
Nice little barbeque restaurant off the beaten path, in the West Valley, on the border of Avondale, Glendale, and Phoenix. We had the brisket, which was tasty, even without the sauce. They had a good amount of traffic when we arrived, so there was somewhat of a wait, but they worked the line down quickly. Customer service was fast and efficient, with a smile. My only complaint was that the price to portion size was a bit high compared to Rudy's Barbecue. Instead of a gallon of tea, they sell it by the quart @ $8, compared to $6.50 for a Gallon at Rudy's. Also Rudy's Barbecue is better priced on the meats, and you receive a much larger portion there. Overall I would still recommend Eric's for those looking for a Barbeque meal.

Yelp
From the moment you pull up you can smell the smoke. It gets better when you go inside! This small family owned restaurant is home to some tender and very flavorful meats! We were told a 'secret' by one of the servers- you get more meat when you buy it separately from ordering just a sandwich. Then they give you complimentary bread! We ordered 2 pounds of brisket, side of mac n-cheese, Cole slaw and fresh made to order french fries. Juicy and tender meat. Very cheesy, goey Mac n-cheese. Cole slaw crispy and not over sauced and hot delicious french fries!! A great meal for us and our friends. It's casual seating inside with 2 kinds of bbq sauce on each table. The spicy and regular. Spicy is very nice- not too hot but has a bit of heat at the end of the bite. It's nice to support a local family owned restaurant, but how much better when the product they serve is delicious!!

Yelp
Great BBQ ain't free! Pricey but I will say worth it! Enjoyed my take out meal for a family of 6. If I'm in the area I would do it again the flavors were on point for a BBQ house.

Yelp
Phenomenal! My husband has a smoker at home and smokes meat all the time so we are kinda smoked meat aficionados if you will. Hubby makes the best ribs in the world which is great but makes us picky about restaurant smoked meat. Best Mac n Cheese Ive had in a restaurant in years. Two people could share one but you may not want too! Hubby had the Oxtail which was fabulous. Clearly had been braised for hours. Sooooo tender. Delicious. We got a half lb which was enough for one person so we wished we had gotten more. Ingot brisket. Great flavor but it dried out quickly on e on the plate so it needs some kind kf au jus or sauce but it was tender and flavorful Elote (corn) was excellent in flavor. Corn was a liiiiiitle tough. Could have been a little crisper, more tender but it was so good Im going home to search how to make something similar and it's gonna be a new side in our house. There were a few old style PacMan/Football etc type games for kids to play and it was free play so our kiddo loved that. Only one more complaint: they dont have a location where we live and we dont have any bbq places this good near our house.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about my favorite BBQ spot this place is worth a drive across the city. Simple, clean decor work plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. A menu that satisfy is anyone's BBQ cravings plus any side you heart desires (their Mac and cheese is some of the best o have ever had!) their BBQ sauces on the table are second to none. Bring your appetite and leave completely satisfied!!

Yelp
Eric's is delicious. Don't miss it, but also don't go expecting breakfast currently. Enjoy!

Yelp
What a gem to find in the west valley! Brought the family here for dinner. The food I did not disappoint. Walking in, there were plenty of tables. Not too busy. We got a little bit of everything: brisket, beef rib, shredded pork, Mac and cheese and potato salad. Wow! Flavvvor! You can't go wrong with any of these items. The staff were so nice and accommodating. I'll support anything family owned. We'll be back if in the area again.

Yelp
Was craving barbecue and this place did not disappoint very very good ribs potato salad needs more seasoning the mac & cheese it's OK. I wouldn't get it again, but the ribs are truly truly the star of the show. Super disappointed that I paid $10 for banana pudding and it tastes nothing like banana pudding. It's just some vanilla pudding with wafers in. It definitely wouldn't get that again, but I will be back for the ribs for sure.

Yelp
Came back to give this place a second try because honestly speaking I was not impressed the first time around. Ordered the brisket sandwich, turkey sandwich, jalapeño sausage, elote, fries and onion rings as sides. Let me start off with the elote. This was my fave item from the menu. I just wish it had a little bit less mayo and a lime on the side then it will be perfect. Fries were very crispy which we loved. The onion rings and Mac n cheese were good too. The jalapeño sausage, last time it was super dry and this time super greasy. Not our favorite though. Turkey sandwich was good according to our 10yo. She approved. Brisket sandwich was good but just as the previous time, it seemed to be a bit dry. People at the counter were very friendly. This place has a lot of seating area inside and outside which is great because they get busy as soon as they open. Very lay back ambiance. Definitely worth a try.

Yelp
Casie is amazing and has a heart of gold. I met her at a family event and the BBQ was off the charts. This is a great establishment founded by great people. I highly recommend Eric's BBQ for catering and when ever the call for BBQ.

Yelp
First time here! Amazing food in such an unusual spot! Keep driving from Surprise because of my other Yelp friends to try a new place and it didn't disappoint! I had (3) Ribs and an order of onion rings and they both were mouth watering! My wife had a turkey sandwich and coleslaw and couldn't finish both! We will definitely be back! Thank you Eric's Family BBQ for a mouth watering experience!!

Kemlyn B.

Yelp
Try the brisket! I loved the moist and succulent fat with the tasty crust. The barbecue sauces were pretty tasty. The potato salad was good, not too much vinegar. I wasn't thrilled with the spar ribs, but I think I might like the baby back ribs better. I will try that next time.

Yelp
I've heard so many good things about Eric's online, so I finally got around to trying it in my quest to find the greatest BBQ spots in the valley. Once I arrived I was greeted with a clean and well kept dining room and many smiles. The people behind the counter were helpful and talked over the menu with me. Everyone was super hospitable. I ordered their brisket, pork ribs and Mac' n' cheese. The Mac was pretty decent overall, but the ribs were overly dry. The brisket was almost comparable to beef jerky. While the flavor was there, it was hard to chew through without a good amount of sauce or drink. Not sure if I came in at a bad time, but overall the food was a let down.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! I came across this place on Yelp when I was doing research for Phoenix. I took a colleague here for dinner while we were in the area for business and it was fantastic! We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and by then all of the burgers were sold out but we came for the brisket so that didn't bother us. I ordered the brisket by weight (1/2 lb.) with mac and cheese and potato salad for my sided. This came with sliced bread and a side of pickles and jalapenos. There was BBQ sauce on all the tables but honestly the meat did not need it. It was tender, moist and beautifully seasoned. The macaroni and cheese serving was generous and oh so cheesy. It was perfectly seasoned and provided so much cheese while the noodles still had great texture. I really liked the potato salad because it had a mustard base and wasn't sweet but beautifully satisfying. I love the addition of pickles as it allowed your palate to cut through the richness. I can't wait to go back. As if this place couldn't get any better, it is family and veteran-owned.

Yelp
Love this place and second time doing review on them. Last one was several years ago. Their barbecue is top notch and the service is excellent! They have become quite popular, so it's very busy around the 11am to 12 time period, but the line moves well. If your on the west side of Phoenix (Avondale-Goodyear) area a definite must try if you like barbecue.

Yelp
I have been told I had to try this place. I am a brisket lover and will try brisket at every opportunity I am faced with. Like all great BBQ joints, it is no frills (that is a compliment). It is a walk up, menu in butcher paper and will cross it out as we run of it kinda joint. This was a solid piece of fatty brisket. There was a lot of flavor and it was super moist. It had a good bark and a nice flavor. The Pork Ribs were big meaty pieces. They had great flavor and fell off the bone. The Pastrami was excellent. Tons of flavor! The sides were really good. I had the elote, which was fantastic. I also tried the potato salad, good, and the Mac & Cheese. M&C was made with real cheese and had really good flavor. This was good BBQ.

Yelp
Still one of my fav's, I just wanted to add a few new photos. Hey you guys, wanna' make it a little more Texan? Add fried okra (Pleeeeease!)

Yelp
Back again!!! Omg bbq heaven Pictures is the beef rib, pork rib, brisket, Mac n cheese, potato salad, and beans!!!

Yelp
This local, family-owned BBQ spot is truly one of my favorites. The food is always delicious and the service is consistently amazing. Every table is stocked with plenty of paper towels--trust me, you're in for a tasty, finger-licking mess. They also offer a great variety of BBQ sauces that perfectly complement and elevate every bite.
google avatar

Miguel T.

Yelp
Although we went late in the afternoon, the food was very fresh. Portions were generous based on the price. I recommend their brisket sandwiches a long their house BBQ sauce. Service was quick and everyone was very friendly. The ambience felt like your typical family BBQ with bench tables. Very neat. The outdoor area was also very nice. Highly recommended!!
google avatar

Paul Z.

Yelp
We had a pulled pork sandwich and a brisket sandwich. Onion rings and beans for sides. The sandwiches were great. The beans were a little spicy for my wife, but the onion rings might have been the best ever. Seating is family style when they are slammed (Saturday afternoon), yet a friendly atmosphere. If you don't mind paper plates and sharing a table I recommend Eric's.
google avatar

Yelp
Order up at counter. The Brisket was delicious. Smoked Turkey was wow delicious . Loved the Mac& Cheese. The corn was wonderful. Definitely recommend. Excellent
google avatar

Yelp
The meat quality is amazing! Juicy ! It is worth the price ! If they could keep more cleaning would even better. This is not that fancy restaurant! But meat is amazing!!!!

Yelp
Good food and great personalities. I saw that this BBQ place served breakfast and thought heck ya. They had breakfast burritos, omelettes, pancakes, hash browns, etc. I went for an omelette with brisket. It was delicious and the people were awesome.

T M.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Outrageously expensive and the food was not good. The brisket was dry and tasteless. The beans were too spicy and not a good flavor. Onion rings were too greasy. They were pretty much out of beer. Basically just not worth going to. Embarrassed because we told my brother in law how good it was. Doubt we will be back.

Tom L.

Yelp
Overrated. 2nd time getting food here, and it will be the last. Ordered 2lbs of pork ribs and a small potato salad. Ribs were overcooked, dried out, gray in color, fatty and over seasoned. Should have known they would turn out that way as the kid at the meat station could not cut between the ribs bones to get the individual ribs weighed. Had to get someone else that was stronger to get through the shoe leather. Save your money. You can get the same thing at Safeway or Frys that are cooked and are in those clear plastic containers near the deli for less than half this price. Potato salad had way to much mustard and pepper seasoning than I prefer. Cryin' Coyote BBQ in Cave Creek is the best in the Phx metro area. Even Rudy's in Goodyear is better. Did not eat in as it was way to loud last time and it was about the same this time, maybe a little less. I don't get the bags on the wall with the menu items written on them. I suppose they think its unique and cool.?

Kevin F.

Yelp
Great ribs and brisket , burger is great as well Good service and clean place, nothing fancy

Yelp
I didn't expect to be amazed today by this restaurant when I was looking for bbq places to try. I was in the area and really hungry so we decided to check this place out. There was a long line when we came in but it was moving quickly. Once we approached the front we were greeted with excitement from the man taking our order. My family and I got the Brisket sandwich, the little backyard cheeseburger, tacos dorados, elote, Mac 'N cheese and the banana pudding. The banana pudding was mouthwatering and the brisket sandwich was so tender and delicious. 5/5. Defiantly the best items we tried on the menu today. They also have BBQ sauces on the table you can use as well for the brisket or any meat you decide to choose. Both spicy and regular BBQ sauce. The little backyard cheeseburger was served with a prime angus beef patty that came with their homemade sauce, pickles and American cheese. Delicious. The tacos dorados are made with corn tortillas that are topped with bbq and cheese. Really flavorful. I'm coming back to try the other meats. Next time we're trying the pulled pork and the pastrami.

Yelp
We came here as an absolute recommend and while we joked with our friend that if place wasn't as great as they hyped it up to be then he would lose his rights of recommendation. We came in as a party of 8 and everyone got something different and not a single person was disappointed. The meat was flavorful and tender. They charge by the pound for their 15 hour smoked brisket and ribs. Both were melt-in-your-mouth goodness full of fat and flavor! The meats and sandwiches do come with pickles, pickled jalepenos, sliced red onions and bread but you have to ask for it. As for sides, those a separate purchase and I can't recommend their homemade MAC and cheese enough! That was cheesy and creamy with a slight kick. It was so good! Their coleslaw was also good and their dressing wasn't too sweet thick or thin. For dessert, do not skip out on their homemade smoked pecan pie and homemade banana pudding!! Both were AMAZING! Needless to say, our friend gets to keep his rights and now is king of food recs. This place was bomb!!
google avatar

Henry D.

Yelp
If you haven't tried this place you're missing out. Delicious brisket with a wide selection of other meats to include Ox tail. If that's your jam. The sides are bomb too. I really dig the elote. Meats are sold by the lb. Don't forget to ask for the pickled onions and jalapeños. Several flavors of BBQ sauces available in their picnic style tables. Try them all and find your favorite. Customer service is friendly here. They love jamming out to some oldies music while you eat. There is one television available to watch the game. So what are waiting for.

Yelp
There's BBQ and then there is BARBECUE! Texas, Oklahoma, the Carolinas, you name it. Then along comes Eric's and they say, "Hold my beer!" There's a reason they were rated #3 barbecue in the nation. We picked Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and turkey. Sides were coleslaw and Mac n cheese. All were phenomenal! The ribs, brisket, pulled pork are REALLY, REALLY good. The surprise was the turkey. Holy smokes (pun intended)! My wife and I agreed the coleslaw was some of the best we've ever had. Not to take anything away from the Mac n cheese, it was delicious in its own right. If you are wondering if this place is worth the hype the answer is absolutely! Put this on your must try list. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Very happy with Eric's Family BBQ.I've lived in Phoenix for so long and I finally found it through Yelp! We really enjoyed the food. We were lucky that they still had all the BBQ meats by 5pm. But sure enough, while eating, they ran out of Beef ribs. So make sure to arrive arou d lunch time and before 5pm for best selection. We sampled pulled pork, turkey, pork ribs, and brisket. With only 2 of us, we decided to do a 1/4 lb of each meat. So average is about $6 or $7 for each selection. With our sides, they are $5 a piece. We went with potato salad, elote, Cole slaw, and Mac and cheese. My favorites were the elote and Mac and cheese. They are awesome to provide some of the delicious top layer of the Mac and next time I would order the elote without hot sauce, but still delicious! We will make sure to be back here really soon!
google avatar

Sandra H.

Yelp
Came here with my son for lunch my youngest doesn't do barbecue, but my oldest does. I got the pulled pork sandwich and he got the brisket sandwich and then we both got mac & cheese. The people were very friendly. It was easy to order. Everything came out really good. They have the barbecue sauce on the table. I like that. They also have a spicy barbecue honestly it was really good. The portions were big.
google avatar

Aubrey J.

Yelp
To be honest, I was very disappointed. Both of our orders were messed up and the burger we ordered took over 20 minutes. I wish the staff took a little more time to ensure orders were correct. The male manager was gracious and refunded us for the mix up. The female manager kept saying she was overwhelmed and took it out on everyone. PS Make sure you know your meats before coming here as there is no explanation to the cuts
google avatar

Kelsey E.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing, amazing! This place is a down home, family friendly, local gem! The food is order at counter style by pound with lots of family sized options. They will prepare you with what they're sold out of and know that they only make limited quantities. They will also show you the meat before you order if you want to take a look. Service is quick but order fast if there is a line. You pick your own table and bus yourself.

Yelp
Several weeks ago my friend noticed that Eric's Family BBQ had hours 6 am to 10:30 , then the normal 11 to 7pm lunch ,dinner hours. I gathered up my lunch buddies and asked if they wanted to go to Eric's for breakfast. With that , 5 of us made the pilgrimage on a Saturday morning at 8 am. We had the restaurant all to ourseleves. Normally that would not be a good sign for eating in the prime breakfast hour. The menu consisted of a Breakfast Burrito, Breakfast Sandwich, Omelette, Pancakes, and Hash browns. Brisket , Pulled Pork , Turkey , Pastrami, and not on the menu Bacon were your meat choices. We ordered 2 Omelettes with bacon and cheese, 2 Omelettes with Brisket and cheese, and a Breakfast Sandwich with Brisket. All orders come with arugula, green onions, tomato, and red and green sauce. My Omelette only had the arugula added on , plus and order of Hash Browns. Everything was top notch. The Omelette was cooked perfectly . The Brisket was its usual. Fantastic. The Hash Browns were great. The order of Hash Browns was big enough to share with another person. It did. Your order come out on a metal try with white paper that holds the food. Way different than a plate and silverware. We did have to wait about 1/2 for the food. Plan accordingly if you need be somewhere else. The staff is very informative and friendly. I claim Eric's is great for any meal of the day. They have all the bases covered.

Yelp
I have to say this was hands down the best bbq I've ever had to date. I got the whole beef rib, mac and cheese, potato salad, and a pork sandwich. I was not dissatisfied. The guy there made sure I got a perfect beef rib (which was a bit expensive $58) but tasted amazing. The rub was peppery but not overbearing the meat was smoked to perfection and the bbq sauce had just enough bite to it. The sides were good as well though nothing to rave about. Overall great experience due to great service. The vibe there was also nice, giving western messy bbq vibes.

Diane K.

Yelp
The best barbecue place ever the whole hog sandwich was magnificent. Excellent brisket of beef. Also, whenever I'm in the area, I go there.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Oh man, I was excited for the food and they delivered! This BBQ is so good. We had brisket, ribs, pulled pork and pastrami! It was so good everything was perfectly cooked. The surprise for me was the pastrami, I have never had pastrami with bark on it, I don't know if I can go back (to traditional pastrami). The service is unique, they take your order by a combo of shouting and memory, from there it is basically self serve. It works and the food is bomb. Pretty much a get down to business, eat your bbq and cleanup so someone else can sit down, cause they fill up fast. They had some good tunes though, pretty chill overall.
google avatar

Deb P.

Yelp
Cute little place with a great atmosphere, clean, well lit, friendly staff. We decided to try Eric's because it had great reviews. We love our BBQ but were severely underwhelmed by the BBQ here. I got 4 baby back ribs (0.5 lb) which were overdone with the dry rub seasoning, were quite dry. I am used to "falling off the bone, melt in your mouth" ribs. This was not even close. I could only finish 2. Too much work chewing. My husband got the brisket sandwich. Quote, "it's ok but too dry for my taste." We had elote, slaw, and fries as our sides. No drinks and still spent over $50. Sides were ok, slaw was more like cabbage with a drop of vinager, elote was good, but very disappointed that a place like this would use precut (frozen) instead of fresh cut fries. Perhaps my expectations were set given the reviews but I am confident that I would have been disappointed regardless. Maybe late day BBQ that's been sitting in warmer dried everything out. ‍ But I would recommend pulling back on the dry rub. A quarter inch crust of it is just too much. On a different note, I am starting to lose confidence in Yelp reviews. The last three highly rated restaurants we a big disappointment. What is going on?
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Back (again) and never disappoints. Late in the day, meats are popping off. If you aren't sure do your own sampler. The smoked pastrami is 10/10, just fantastic. Brisket has some pepper to it, definitely worth a try. Pork ribs got that mesquite flavor ummm hmm. But the pastrami is show stopper.

Yelp
We are new to Arizona so we don't know all the great places to eat yet. I was in line at my CVS in Verrado and the guy next to me started talking to me. He told me if I like bbq then i have to try Eric's. My wife and I were in the area and I pulled up Yelp and there it was. We showed up around 2 pm on a Saturday and it was real busy. Nothing fancy inside but welcoming. We waited for our turn to order and the gentleman at the counter was incredible. Super friendly, outgoing and helpful with our order. We ordered a brisket sandwich Philly style and a chicken sandwich. He pulled the chicken out and cut it off the bone which was delicious. The brisket was amazing as well. He asked if we had tried the turkey sandwich and we said no, so he put some turkey on the side for us to try. We had Cole slaw and Mac and cheese for our sides. The food was amazing, staff, all of them were amazing. The only feedback is maybe smaller sides a little cheaper but I understand these are shareable. We will be back. 5 stars.

Yelp
you're a BBQ lover living in Arizona, you should absolutely consider making the trip to Eric's Family Barbecue. Located in Avondale, it's about an hour's drive from North Scottsdale, but trust me -- it's worth every minute spent on the road. This was my second visit in just ten days, and while I've tried various items on the menu, including their pulled pork and jalapeño sausage, the highlight for me is always the fatty brisket. And coming from Kansas City, where BBQ is practically a way of life, I can say that I know my brisket. I grew up surrounded by family members who prided themselves on their smoky, tender creations, so my standards are pretty high. In my previous BBQ endeavors in Arizona, I thought nothing could surpass Little Miss BBQ, which set the gold standard for me until April 2025. However, Eric's has taken a firm step into the spotlight with their brisket. It's perfectly cooked, juicy, and has that irresistible smoky flavor that keeps me coming back. During my latest visit, I ventured out and tried a couple of side items as well. The yellow elote was decent, but honestly, I found it a bit underwhelming compared to the star of the show -- the brisket. If you're serious about your BBQ, do yourself a favor and make the drive. The line might be daunting, but it moves quickly and the wait only heightens the anticipation of that delicious brisket. So, if you're in the mood for some top-notch BBQ, grab your keys and head to Avondale. Eric's Family Barbecue is a gem that deserves to be discovered Not a fan of the open playlist music I just feel that needs to be managed.

Yelp
Hands down the best BBQ in the valley! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the brisket and ribs are my go-tos. The banana pudding is absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff is down-to-earth and super friendly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
It's a casual restaurant. You order at the counter. They provide you with the sides at the time you pay. Actually, I just realized I paid for elite and never got it haha. Anyways, my husband ordered the doc Holliday with a slice brisket on it. The brisket was delicious. I got the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was moist, but a bit too peppery for me. I asked for a plain hamburger for my daughters, it came out incorrectly. They quickly rectified it and also gave us a banana pudding for the inconvenience. All in all, a solid restaurant!

Yelp
We arrived right as the doors were opening on a Sunday morning. They slice the meats as you go through the line, so that was a quick turnaround. The cashier was trying to move too quickly, so our bill and our friends' bill was wrong. The fries came out as we were finishing our meals. But overall the food was delicious and we will definitely come back when we're in the area.

Yelp
Expecting off the hook brisket , sadly save your money it's fatty dry and not Texas brisket. Service is also terrible. You need to teach your staff customer service skills. If I order and purchase sweet tea don't tell me to get Lipton tea and pop an attitude when I tell you I want sweet tea.

Yelp
I've been here plenty of times now and easy to say this is my favorite BBQ spot in AZ. The service is always great and the food is amazing! The ambiance is a very casually back yard bbq experience. Whenever fam comes in from out of town I make sure to bring them here. From the elote to the pastrami everything is always top notch. If you haven't been I highly recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
This place is amazing - you MUST try at least once and you will come back again and again. It is rated #3 IN THE NATION!!We recently took out of town friends and had a platter of various meats. Beef, ribs, pork, ribs, brisket, pastrami, and sausage. We swooned over the beef, ribs and the brisket but the whole platter had melt in your mouth flavors. The Elote (corn) side dish is very tasty and I would recommend. The beans are wuuuuu doggie good! We also shared a banana pudding and boy did that bring back memories of being a kid. The butcher/meat cutter adds to the experience, telling you all about the processing of the meats and entertaining you as well. Outstanding service! Love everything about this place and we are so grateful they are so close to home!!
