Google
Today was my first time here and I been living in Michigan for over 24 years, shame on me. There's really no difference between custard and regular ice cream it's damn near the same. If no one told me it was custard I couldn't tell the difference. I got the vanilla with cookies and cream and it was very good. My son got the triple chocolate parfait and that was quite tasty too! They have a huge selection of different treats so plan to spend some time studying the menu there. The staff was very friendly too. The young lady even gave us a taste of the custard before we ordered which was a plus! They also have 10 different flavors of Nerds slushy too! Well definitely be back!

Google
The best part of my day is when Nana says let's go get some custard. This place makes her feel like a kid again and makes her giggle. She and I love it! So good, a place everyone must go to. They have different flavors every week and are posted so you know when to come to get your favorite flavor. The staff was super sweet too!

Google
Each and every time I have gone to Ermas this summer I have tried to order the special flavor and on each occasion they don't have it. I wonder why feature something if you never have it? All the kids working there are very good at. what they do and the lines move quickly, but maybe they should stick to traditional flavors.

Justina Kaszowicz

Google
Staff is very friendly even when busy. They take cash and card. The custard are fun and delicious. Me and my family loves the Erma ice if you are looking for dairy free than look no further.

Google
As a first-time customer, I had the wonderful experience. Imagine what it would taste like to have delicious lemon pound cake ice cream. This is exactly what the lemon custard flavor with confetti cake dip was—simply amazing. I almost opted for a vanilla cone, but the cashier recommended the lemon flavor and even let me try it. I'm so glad I did, as it took my experience over the top!

Google
First Time Experience 🤎🤎🙏🤎🤎 Absolutely Amazing I had Pineapple Orange Custard and my wife had Butter Pecan Two thumbs up

Google
Our only stop for frozen custard! Love their sundae's.

Google
The worker was giving me a attitude for no reason, i came here to have fun with my family and this lady had no respect to us for no reason whatsoever, someone asked her is she okay? and she started being sassy for no reason, this is not acceptable and no one will tolerate such childish behavior.

Yelp
Always a line, even in cold or any weather. That's got to say something. Rotating menu of special flavors, what a great idea. Except for that flavor that you love that you can only get one week out of the whole summer. A tad pricey, two cones for $10.38, but was delicious for every bite.

Yelp
Erma's does basically one thing -- frozen custard -- but they do it exceptionally well. Rather than tart up their custard with fake coloring, they use real fruits and other toppings to make their truly tasty custard. There's always vanilla and chocolate available, with two weekly special flavors and a non-dairy ice as well. Service is usually speedy, but if you are ordering a parfait or other specialty item, give 'em a break as it's all made to order.

Darlene G.

Yelp
Don't ever bother ordering a baby cone!i It's the smallest amount I've ever seen for $2.75!!! Lucky if it's 3-4 spoonfuls. Wish I had taken a picture! I was in total disbelief when they served it to me! Finished it basically while going to my car from the getting it at the walk up window! Considering that some quarts are $9 it's robbery that they charge almost 1/3 of that for about 4 bites of ice cream
google avatar

Yelp
Love the menu here, perfect for everyone's picky tastebuds, lots of variety.... Only thing sometimes is the line, moves fastish, totally worth the wait!!!
google avatar

Sohaib L.

Yelp
This place is good but I don't think it was OMG good. I definitely appreciate the idea of it being custard. And it was not super sweet. They were super busy but very fast service, with friendly staff. I would come back. Definitely a place you can bring family to, with nice feel.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic custard, great service & ample outdoor seating! This is the local summer spot, the options are endless. Some friends and I stopped by for custard. We got parfait's and regular custard, both were delicious. The staff was kind and friendly! They also had a list of different flavor options offered every week so you'll never run out of things to try! Heads up it's only outdoor seating but there's plenty around. We highly highly recommend!

Yelp
This is one of my all time favorite custard shops and brings on a sense of nostalgia for me. I have been visiting here since childhood. The shop has a good variety of parfaits, and also changes custard flavors on a weekly basis throughout the season. Definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
I am 70 years old and this is still my favorite frozen custard establishment. There are many who have come close and unfortunately they always decide to change how they make their custard which then knocks them off the list. Erma's on the other hand appears to have stayed with the original recipe, they have been using when I came here at 10 years old I no longer live in Michigan but every year when I come up to visit family I always make sure to at least visit them a couple of times as there is no better that I have tasted, and everyone I have brought with me agrees
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Erma! Your custard! Wowee! As a profesh real creamer, this is THE place. parfaits for days! Don't sleep on Erma! She knows what's up. TRUST.
google avatar

Lynda F.

Yelp
Every time I visit Michigan from out of state, I have to go to Erma's. They have the absolute best decadent, frozen custard and 1 million flavors.!!
google avatar

Anuj K.

Yelp
This time I only got a simple vanilla custard, but you can't go wrong with it. Ermas has so many options and so many fun combinations you can make. On top of this, there are weekly rotating flavors, so there's always something new to try. Also tried the blueberry vanilla custard and it was delicious. I recommend anyone in the area come check this place out. There will always be a big line in the Summer but it's well worth it. It's refreshing, smooth, and all around a great experience.

Yelp
Great custard for the eastsiders of metro Detroit. There's a reason they've been around since the 40's, it's that good. It's nice that they have a few locations, closer for o me as well. They have flavors that cha he weekly in addition to the standard chocolate and vanilla. A must go to. I introduced my girlfriend to this place this summer, and she can't stop thinking about the toasted coconut parfait. Will definitely be back
google avatar

Karin S.

Yelp
The custard is really good. They have over 20 dofferent sundae creations to choose from. The workers were friendly. I would highly recommend trying this place.

Melissa G.

Yelp
We frequent here once a week, sometimes two in the Summer months. Everything we order is always picture perfect and tastes just as good as it looks! We love Erma's
google avatar

Jean M.

Yelp
I've been here off and on over the years and this place has always been worth the extra 15mins it takes to get here for me! Excellent creamy custard, the only one place in the area (on Woodward) that even comes close, is the Custard Cup, but I still think Erma's is better! The other night I just had the vanilla with some hot fudge which was delicious. I've had their butterscotch topping also before which was good too. There are many things I've never tried here, but I'm assuming they are just as good as what I've tried. There's always a long line, but it goes fairly fast, and it's definitely worth your wait!

Mark M.

Yelp
God how I love this place when I'm in town! Retro to the max. Frozen custard in a bevy of flavors but the fun thing is ordering the creatively mixes they offer. Did I mention they schedule special flavors and post the list. Yum! This place is the perfect example how an old business can stay relevant and flourish into the next century. I'll be back!

Yelp
The first time I visited here with my friend, I ordered a large custard & sat down at the picnic table close to the sort of building & I enjoyed my frozen custard then talked to my friend!!! They have all sorts of choices & varieties!!! I highly recommend it!!!

Yelp
This frozen custard is the absolute best. I have been going to Ermas frozen custard since 1960. My mother was still alive then and took us. It was just a blessing it brings back a lot of really good memories and it's taste is wonderful.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is wow! They are known for their parfaits & they have lots of parfait combinations to choose from. It was our first time here and I didn't take the time to peruse the Yelp reviews first...because there's LOTS to choose from. I ended up choosing the tin roof, which is basically custard, caramel, Spanish peanuts, chocolate sauce & whipped cream. My little one got a small twist with gummy worms (which they didn't add-more on that soon). I love custard-way more than most things in life so I was very excited to try this! I found this custard a bit too "eggy" & off putting. Each time I tasted it, I could taste egg...ewww! It's not my favorite custard. But I still wouldn't give it a 2, probably a 3 if it wasn't for the entire experience. The 2 is because they forget to add the gummy worms to my little ones order. So we went back up and told her and she looked it up on the register and rang us up for $.75. (She forgot to add it the first 9.00 we spent). So she tells me it's a cup full of gummy worms with a lid. I'm thinking ok. What comes out? 3 gummy worms!!! 3! I said oh no no...she said a cup full of gummy worms, at which she replied "yup, that's our cup". I get it...all these little shops have to pay their bills, but .75 for a "cup" 3 gummy worms. So, even without the .75 gummy worms, I wouldn't return. I wasn't crazy about the egg nor the customer service. But cool place!

Yelp
Don't question the greatness if Erma's. Their parfaits are above and beyond wonderful. They have made artwork to illustrate every choice. I cannot choose so pick simple things and they are still delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing ice cream Great prices And love the fresh air in the back parking lot where there's a place to sit and enjoy

Yelp
This is my favorite custard place from Ohio, Illinois and Michigan. The hallmark of great custard is flavor and the consistency of the custard. Erma's delivers on both and of all the custard joints I've eaten at they have by far the best consistency of their custard. Their custard is so smooth yet thick and it does not melt quickly like most custard places do. Even when transporting custard by a cooler for a 15-20 minute drive all other places the custard will have melted and have some soupiness. With Erma's I can transport it 20 minutes with absolutely no soupage (if that's even a word). I am a purist so vanilla is the go to test and their vanilla is superb. It has that deep vanilla flavor and that oh so smooth texture. When you think of the perfect custard it has to be super smooth and yet thick which Erma's delivers. I haven't tried any of their specialties or toppings as the vanilla/chocolate are just that good plain. I have also tried the strawberry (seasonal) which is absolutely delicious. It has a very strong strawberry flavor with very tiny bits of strawberry. When it's in season, it's always a vanilla/strawberry combo for me. If you are going to spend your calories and sugar on anything, you must use them on Erma's, you will not be disappointed. Its hard to give five stars for restaurants as there are so many things to consider from the food, service, decor, parking etc.... but with custard its just about the custard which is why it is so easy to give 5 stars for Erma's.

Yelp
Our go to sport here in the area! Great choices and flavors! Some weeks are better than others, but the ice cream is to die for! Be patient as the workers are younger, however friendly. Love having a homegrown custard shop right around the corner!
google avatar

Dorothy W.

Yelp
Never knew this place existed until now! Glad I came here! They have a pretty extensive menu. Custard is yummy!

Megan P.

Yelp
The custard here comes in a lot of good flavors and has really good texture. Sometimes it's so soft it nearly falls off the cone! Service is quick and friendly. The color scheme of the building is adorable.

Yelp
My Detroit gf is cute af, but so is her sister, and you should see 'er ma. In fact this is 'er ma's custard place. I always produce custard of my own for 'er ma. So far, this is probably my one of my top 5 favourite custards in Detroit - and I've had dozens of them, maybe as many as 50 - and even though Detroit is only second to Milwaukee as the best destination for custard, that is saying a lot because there are a lot of amazing custard stands around the country. With Erma's - The main problem is the long wait time. Service is pretty nice though. Prices are really good. The vanilla is exquisite and the decor on the outside is really cute. There is no inside. Same can't be said about Barbie. There are several locations, and they all seem to be just as crazy busy.

A Z.

Yelp
My favorite frozen custard place of all time! It's a must whenever I visit Michigan. All of their flavors are so good and never disappoint.
google avatar

Albert K.

Yelp
Finally got this one off my list, and was happy to see it was good as reviewed. Service was quick and there were a bit to many bees, but can't blame the business for that. Getting in and out of this location can be tough based on its location and proximity to the intersection of 14 and John R. A worthwhile stop if you are into frozen custard.
google avatar

Trevor M.

Yelp
Now that it's October, we were in the mood for some pumpkin frozen custard. We weren't expecting to have so many options -- I think four altogether! They were all different combinations of caramel, whipped cream, graham crackers, and cheesecake pieces (and perhaps a few other mix-ins and toppings?). I'm not even sure which one we settled on, but it was delicious -- just what we were looking for. Since this was our first time, we were also impressed by the helpful illustrations showing the layered ingredients in every menu item as well as the perfect-sized kids' cone with just 2 oz. of frozen custard. This was a great experience. We can't wait to come back!

Aimee L.

Yelp
I have been going to Erma's my entire life ... 56 years! There is no comparison, a taste of heaven!

Dena P.

Yelp
Creamy and perfect amount of richness. They have all the usuals plus an awesome array of parfaits. Definitely worth a stop.
google avatar

Jim O.

Yelp
Happened to be passing by. Ice cream stores would be out of business,if they depended on me. Rarely go. Went with small cone flavor of the week, pistachio. Decent sized, for being a small. Tasted very good. Friendly service.
google avatar

Rodrigo T.

Yelp
Ok, so I've finally made it to try out what it's said to be the only one that can hold a candle to Downriver's Bob-jo's. So here goes. It's pretty much set up like the old school custard joints... parking everywhere, line starts here and a hole in the wall to bark your order in. There's a line queue and picnic tables for you to sit with a friend and enjoy your cone cones. So, there are flavor specials, aside from their vanilla and chocolate or swirl. The special flavors the day we went is Mocafe and Cinnamon Almond. Which the mocafe was the stronger of the two flavors. I didn't really care much for the cinnamon almond. I like this place and I would definitely come back to have custard here again whenever I'm in the area. Too bad I'm 40 minutes away from here, and that's with out traffic. Anyways,, thank you so much for reading my review. I hope all of this helps. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!

Jeff W.

Yelp
Great place. Reasonably priced. Can get a bit crowded. Always friendly staff. Recommend

Yelp
What a great way to end the day after some Sahara's and the pool. Although I was stuffed, I was persuaded to give the chocolate dipped cone a try, and I sure as heck did not regret it. My guy ended up getting the blueberry cheesecake sundae and that was delish as well. So many layers and not overly sweet. Only thing is I wished that the heat allowed me to consume my ice cream before it melted all over my hands‍.
google avatar

Snipe B.

Yelp
Great custard, love the different flavors for the week. The line can get long at times so you need to be patient.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
LOOOVED my raspberry (weekly special) frozen custard with birthday cake hard coating. There was such a variety of options and I cannot believe I haven't been before. I want to comeback once a week and try each of their parfaits or sundaes, not sure what they call them, that are displayed outside on the side of the building. Erma's also has a specialty flavor custard every week, and was bummed when I saw some of the older flavors this summer. they only do them once a season. I would love to return as often as I can.
google avatar

Judith B.

Yelp
There is a reason Erma's has been in business since 1942. I look forward to my tasty treat!!! I am a loyal Erma's customer. If you go, ask for a punch card. Well worth it. If you are lucky, you can get a MVP card for $1 off. P.s. The sprinkles are highly recommended.
google avatar

Dunkin W.

Yelp
What a great little local find tucked away here in busy Madison Heights...im assuming it's till Madison Heights that is. This is your quintessential midwestern soft-sever custard stand with all the creative Fix'ens - it just doesn't get better than his America!! Places like this are always worth a visit - the ice cream alone is, in my opinion, the way all ice cream should be. If your over all these other, trendy, over-thought, trying to be hyper creative/different ice cream stores that all serve up "meh" ice cream, then you'll love Erma's. Try it - you won't be disappointed. Enjoy.

Yelp
We've gone in a nice Sunday afternoon and ate outside. Plain vanilla was very good. Medium sized cone is a lot of serving.
google avatar

Yelp
It's my favorite Real Yogurt place. Year's ago way back when I was a teen. My boyfriend (husband) always took me th the original one in Utica. Fluffy creamy yogurt. Yummy. It

Zena S.

Yelp
I LOVE Ermas so much! I've been coming to this location since I was a little girl with my family, I use to always get the dirt cup & cherry dipped vanilla cones I was there about a month ago & I got a parfait I forgot which one it was called but the portion sizes here are amazing. It's a bang for your buck! Will be returning soon
google avatar

Shanel S.

Yelp
I don't ever want to meet the person who gives Erma's less than 5 stars. It's a great walk-up style ice cream spot that can take anyone back to childhood memories. There's just something about the summertime in the Midwest that makes you appreciate frozen custard melting all over your hands. The employees are always friendly and they're never out of cherry to dip your vanilla custard in. There really isn't anything else I could want or ask for.

Yelp
Found this gem when we moved to Detroit late last year. Their custard is delicious, with a large variety of things to try. I highly recommend checking out this local delight.
google avatar

Patrick V.

Yelp
Love this place. This is a landmark to come to if you are in the area. The place is always packed and is only opened during early summer and closes late summer. They have a website which tell everyone what the flavor of the week is. Every week they have different flavors that is great. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to take their family out as free dinner for some dessert.
google avatar

Mary D.

Yelp
What a cute little place! I have not had custard this good since I was in Fredericksburg, VA many years ago. The custard is thick with a lot of vanilla flavor and is very melt- resistant, even on a hot summer day. I sampled a simple cone and was quite satisfied. It appears that they do a special flavor every 6 days so for sure we will be getting that next time we are on the East Side!
google avatar

Roger I.

Yelp
What can I say about Erma's except, let's go! There is a reason there's a long line in front of their establishment every night. Don't be put off by the long line, people are friendly and it moves fairly quickly. Their treats are delicious!!! They have two weekly specials, along with the regular flavors which keeps people coming back. Be sure to pick up a schedule of the specials or check them out on their website. They have plenty of seating in front and in back, a great place to bring the family and friends for a nice outing. They are known for their parfaits, of which they have a nice selection. Great, now I want to go up there and get myself some dessert! See ya!
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream places close to home! I've had everything from there Explosions, Brownie Delights, slushies, etc. Which all were amazing. There custard is so creamy and probably the best I've ever tasted! And I love that every week they have two new flavors on top of the original vanilla and chocolate!
google avatar

Nathasja T.

Yelp
I cannot believe I haven't reviewed Erma's! I have been coming here for years now, on and off, since it's not close to where we live but we come here when we have work in the area. I first became obsessed because of their cotton candy flavor of the week.. I mean, come on! CC custard? Mmh. Great! Not so great is that they litterally have it once a year :-( However, flavor of the week means many different flavors to try all the time -so that is fun. I am pretty boring so I usually stick to a vanilla caramel sundae.. a classic and a very creamy, flavorful one at that here at Erma's!
