12 Top-Notch Mexican Restaurants in Miami

"There’s more than just tacos at Ernesto’s. Guests can indulge in various dishes, such as huevos rancheros for breakfast, chimichangas for lunch, or a delightful combination of platters for dinner, featuring carne asada, chorizo, and a wet burrito accompanied by beans and rice. Ernesto’s affordable menu allows patrons to enjoy many dishes at both locations in Kendall." - Eater Staff

Googlemaps is my go-to when I need to find a good place to eat, and the reviews for this place were great. The place is very low key, little hole in the wall, but the food was amazing! We had the 3 tacos al pastor and the 3 beef taquitos combo with beans and rice. Had the guacamole but did not care for it. They have a little condiment bar, and their encurtido and green sauce is so good. The only downside for me was the counter service, the lady seemed annoyed at my questions, not friendly at all. But the food saved the day.

This was my first time going here But I can say it's been atvthis location for years more then 10 years from this date , I made a phone call order and the tpyng lady who was taking my order was very RUDE , I came in to pick up order the same young lady ask me dud I place an phone order I said yes, I paid with my card and she put a piece of paper on the counter and said sign, I looked to the side it was 3 papers I ask one she replied the one I put down on the table, I told her it's three ,she rolled her eyes and picked the one O had to sign out the 3. Seconds later she ask so you want salsa O said sure , I waited and waited and she said what do you need ,I said the salsa the she pointed to a silver box , I told her it's my first time I did not know . SHE ROLLED HER EYES AGAIN. chicken quesadilla was good Everything else I ordered was not that great My First and last time

I've been coming to this place ever since I was a kid with my parents. Seen the location go through a lot of changes over the years and I love the new mural that they have inside and the new menu board and all. I know nothing can be done about it but I really wish that the parking situation was just a little bit better and that there was actually a bathroom for customers to be able to use. I went here with a friend and the food was good and everything but they're always seems to be a slight little problem when it comes to the consistency of the food. I know it can't be always the same person that's cooking the food everyday so it is to be expected but sometimes you can kind of just tell y'know? Overall though I don't think anybody would really be disappointed in the food here and as a landmark and sentimental location for me despite the changes that it has gone through in the lack of a bathroom I still love this place to death but I'm giving it a fair rating of a four because it does have its minor inconveniences.

My food was delivered with wrong items, no salsa, loaded with tomatoes which were not ordered and I hate tomatoes, meat so dry and tough from overcooked. The entire order had errors. Horrible food! I tried calling and the phone number kept disconnecting THEN...Watch your credit card for fraud charges after eating here. Someone attempted to use my credit card to charge close to $100 worth of cleaning supplies at the target a few blocks away from there. I have now canceled the card I used for the meal and disputed the charges. A new card is being issued. How dare you! FYI...this Ernesto's in Cutler Bay IS NOT THE SAME OWNER as the Ernesto's in KENDALL and COUNTRY WALK. Their food is excellent. We have eaten at those two numerous times and they have delicious food and I never had anyone try to use my card.

Definitely a great spot ! Everything tasted good . Chips and salsa were fresh. The birria tacos and sopes were delicious! I loved the passion fruit juice. The service was great and food came out quickly! I will definitely be back !

The elote and horchata was ON POINT! I also got the barbacoa tacos- which were really flavorful, and the meat was cooked perfectly. They also have a salsa bar- which has 3 different choices of salsa and some spicy pickled veggies. The atmosphere is good- but you have to go outside to use the bathroom, which was kind of off-putting. The staff is really nice and very accommodating.

Delicious, fresh, authentic Aztec/Mexican food at a reasonable price and serving

At first sight the place is not very inviting, but I think we found our new casual taco place. It’s like homemade food. My husband loves Mexican and spicy foods and he loved everything we tried. We tried the Sopes, tacos and a sampler platter they have. The Horchata was pretty good. We’ll be going back soon. We visited on a Monday night, so I don’t really know how packed it can get. The place is not so big, but I would say that the yummy food is worth a little wait.

Yelp
Food & services Amazing. But I don't feel someone should get reprimanded for a compliant when clearly she did not know what she wanted. Being there myself. As she mentioned she might have been the only non speaking Spanish person there but her order was taken in English? & so was my order taken in English... & it's disgusting to see employees being referred to as "the help!" & for future reference you might want to know what cheese your referring to. For instance the cheese that's on a tostada is " cotija cheese!" You could have simply asked to remove that cheese & have mozzarella on top instead... Not " white cheddar cheese "as you were referring to it. Never seen that a Mexican restaurant lol & next time mam you might want to wait until the EMPLOYEE is done assisting the person in front of you for you to be assisted. David you handled that situation great. She asked you a question and did not let you respond & proceed to get upset that you were answering her question.

Yelp
I have never left a bad review, but this is outrageous. The absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Refused to listen to the customer even when THEY make the mistake. HALF of my order was missing because THEY didn't give it to the driver. When I call, they didn't let me completely explain myself before interrupting saying that all I was missing was sauces. When I disagreed he threatened to block my phone number and hung up the phone on me. Life is too expensive and hard to be treated this way by a business when they should have just said sorry! Give business to another company that truly values their customers.

Yelp
Came the place to pick up food and ask for the restroom surprise!! Restaurant was open but restroom close.

Yelp
Surprisingly good! After moving to homestead and having taco shops at almost every corner, we've had yet to find one worth going back to...until we discovered Ernesto's. The shop itself looks a little dingy and we opted to try it via UberEats. I was so surprised when my husband and I opened our takeout containers to find giant burritos and fully loaded tacos! The meat on both tasted great and the fillings made every bite worth while! I was pleasantly surprised at how good my tacos were. We opened up the chips and cheese, however, and it was....just that. Chips sprinkled with cheese. Literally. Not melted, nothing. Interesting. I should've taken the description very literally. Regardless of the chips, my husband and I were so pleasantly surprised at how good these tacos were that were definitely planning on making this our go-to taco spot!

Yelp
I frequent here quite a bit but lately the quality and service has gone down hill. The flavor is non existent. Everything tasted old, which is why I think the cheese looked the way that it did, which was clumpy and like small pieces of cauliflower. The Mexican rice? Do you see how white it is in the picture? (No flavor and had a metal taste to it) No wonder it is empty. I always say, when a place is empty it isn't that great. Never coming back.

Yelp
We eat here on some of our take out nights. You can eat in, but we usually eat at home. Highly recommend the California fries. They're like nachos with French fries. Delicious! Tacos are good and you can have them with corn or flour tortillas. The service is always quick and they have never gotten my order wrong.

Yelp
My go-to when I'm in Cutler Bay! Many choices for the Mexican cuisine fan. Everyone gets a bowl of chips and 2 cups for serve yourself salsas. I love that there's a whole roll of paper towels on every table! Very friendly and fast. Here I have a combo meal of a cheese enchilada and a bean tostada. The chips are tasty, not salty. Inside the space is decorated with a little authentic charm and there's a TV on with the news in Spanish. There's parking outside on the north and south sides of the building as well as next door by the (possibly vacant) fabric store. I used to go here a lot when I was regularly doing work in the area (before the pandemic) and now a few years later I have to say it's the same or better!
google avatar

Yelp
When we are craving Mexican food, we go to Ernesto's. Today the taco salad, quesadillas and burrito was so salty that we only took 2 bites and that was it. Such a waste. We also didn't get our sauces. The Guacamole was rotten.

Yelp
Dune in or take out ! I have been a long-time customer and the food has always been on point. All the staff are always eager to help and answer as all your questions. The service for me fot over 8 years has been on point. I love going in and listening to the banda music or Marco Antonio Solis playing in the back ground. Place your order sit down and munch on hot chopped Carrots. and Jalapeños with onions and fresh tosted chips. Save room for the huge Burrito with Carne Asada with guacamole on the side. Eat it with your hand or cut into it no matter what you do it is a Guarantee that you will fall in love with this place. Pro Tip: Order the Coke in a glass bottle or a Jarito de Tamarindo.

Yelp
Ernesto's Taco Shop has always been a go-to spot for me when I'm craving some delicious Mexican food but after their recent renovation, they have taken it to the next level. The first thing you'll notice is the revamped interior. The new decor is stylish and modern, creating a welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a casual meal. Now, let's talk about the food. Ernesto's has consistently delivered mouthwatering Mexican dishes, and they continue to do so. From their flavorful tacos to their perfectly seasoned burritos, every bite is delicious. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are generous - you definitely won't leave hungry. But it's not just about the food and ambiance; it's also about the friendly and efficient service. The staff here always makes you feel like a valued guest, and they're more than willing to accommodate special requests. Ernesto's Taco Shop's renovation has taken an already great place and made it even better. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer looking for great Mexican food, this spot should be at the top of your list. Trust me; you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
An utter disappointment to say the least. Drove from Miami Springs here specifically to have the crispy ground beef tacos. We always new they were fresh and delicious. Today we got them and the shells were chewy! My first taco was okay crispy, crunchy, and like I remembered. Then get to the last bite of the taco and it was chewy. Then I go to the next taco and I can't break the shell. It's again chewy and I'm like no way. Other person in the party said the same thing. It was awful. Thinking they would make it right I went up front to let them know. The younger man looked at me baffled. I told him the taco shells were old and chewy. He said the meat made it that way. I said no, I use to eat these all the time and they were old and chewy. He said hold on. Went to the kitchen came back and said...we are going to give your money back. I'm like what?!? He said you already ate a taco. We are not going to remake themes I said what are you talking about? We drove here from Miami. He said. We are not going to remake them we are going to give your money back. I was not asking for 3 new tacos each. I was asking to remake the two stale tacos. My partner came up and said you should try to eat them. They are chewy and old. He said well we are not remaking them. Reality, they have lost a customer who used to refer and brag about this place. Now I encourage anyone reading this to make your selection carefully. When a restaurant does not stand behind the food and literally do not right a situation, I would not go back! Sad situation to say the least. Former people I have referred have now been notified and they said too they will not go back. So sad!!! But their loss. Find another restaurant that cares about the quality of food, not argue with the customer, and right the situation!

Yelp
Solid taco shop with home made flavor. We've been going for years and it never disappoints. We've tried most options on the menu but the burrito is my favorite. Not overloaded with tons of ingredients or over the top seasonings. Great flavor and good portion but not too big. Recommend.

Yelp
After driving by this place many times, I finally decided to pop in and give it a try. I had the Carne Asada tacos, and a side of guacamole and chips. The tacos were boring, although I must say the guac on them was a nice touch. Overall I wasn't impressed, I might come back and try something else on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Best tacos in the area, and yes better than Guadalajara, but super slow service. Don't go if your in a rush
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Phone number needs to be updated or something because they never pick up when I call.. what a shame because the food is always great but I don't always have the time to wait in person

Lillian H.

Yelp
This place is hit or miss but today it was a miss! Hard shell taco was oily, chicken did not have any flavor, rice had no flavor, and the enchilada was ok. The cheese that was on the food was too chunky and the texture was weird, almost like it wasn't stored properly. The plus, are the sauces. The customer service wasn't great either. When I asked if we could have the cheese melted a little in the nachos the kid just shrugged and said they cannot do it. I have been giving this place so many chances but I think I will drive the extra miles to Taqueria Morelia.

Philene H.

Yelp
I love the food but the help leaves much to be desired. Today, I ate in. I'm the only non Spanish speaker in the restaurant which I'm fine with. Everyone else was served their food on plates, received chips and dip, etc. I was given my food in a to go box in the dining room. Was told they "cant melt the cheese" on my food. I guess I will have to start going to their Kendall location instead. The kid at the register, David, must be the owner's son because there is no other way an employee could act how he does to customers and get away with it. He is awfully nasty.

Yelp
Ernesto's Taco Shop is a small Mexican place with a variety of options to choose from. Their menu includes anything from tacos, to quesadillas, burritos, to nachos and more! I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga and it came with the side of guac, sour cream, and tomatoes. It was very filling. The chicken was tasty. It just has a lot of refried beans! The California Fries were good. Shareable and filling. Think of the toppings that nachos have, but instead of nachos, they're French fries! I also tried their Passion Fruit juice. It was good, just wish it had come with ice because it got a little warm. Overall, I would come back to try something new.

Yelp
We have order from here manny times and love that all ways have a a good quality food and great service overall.

Yelp
We have been to the restaurant and we've always liked it, this weekend we ordered for delivery and we LOVED it. All the food was well packaged, nothing spilled, everything neat and mostly DELICIOUS.

Erin B.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick lunch after a snorkeling trip. We had carnitas tacos, barbacoa tacos, and pollo tacos. All were good, as was the service!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was amazing. It was fresh and it's authentic Mexican food. The staff was very friendly. It's a small restaurant and it gets filled up quickly.

Yelp
Finding this place was kind of difficult . On google map it says permanently closed and Yelp directions wasn't helpful. I called to asked what was by it but the guy who answered wasn't much help and i could hear the hostess laughing in the background. I was determined to eat tacos so i ended up figuring it out myself. Carne asada tacos - nothing special about it. It was nice having guacamole on them though. ELOTE- my favorite . Be aware that it's spicy Chimichanga- lots of meat and was good Chicken quesadilla- good but lacked flavor Horchata- tasted watered down Probably wouldn't return to this establishment

Julian F.

Yelp
Food was ok, it did take forever to get to our table, but service was terrible, at least the guy who takes your order is super rude and very discourteous! Don't recommend coming here!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything be fresh an definitely delicious. Service is amazing an actually kinda quick.

Yelp
Look all; there are time when you say I want to eat "enter food here" while you are in an area that you are not familiar with and just hope that what you find is at least edible. But when what you get is......what can I say PERFECTION then your day is made. I was with my son in Homestead and had a craving for Taqueria (Real Toco/Mexican Food) and not knowing the area found some from a simple Apple Maps search. We walked in and I see that it was a precious Royal Castle but when we entered I started feeling this is going to be good. I ate the Carnitas Taco and my son had the Eggs & Chorizo. The chips and salsa are complimentary. Well the sauces for the chips are homemade and good but the two courses we ordered well will have me returning over and over again whenever I come to this area. Everyone it's a must go to place; lacks parking but the food is worth it.....I forgot the beer was cold as hell also which as you know makes tacos taste even better. For real perfect place..........

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Prices may be a little steep in comparison to other locations, but the taste is undeniable.

Yelp
Used to be good. Good quality low. Service regular. And the ambiance is little better than before. But the food is not good anymore

Yelp
Ernesto's Taco Shop is a hidden gem in south Miami. From the moment you step inside, the vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff create a welcoming experience. The menu boasts a wide array of tantalizing options, from mouthwatering tacos to savory burritos, all made with fresh ingredients bursting with flavor. I usually always do take out, but they have ample seating in side. The standout is undoubtedly the home made guacamole. I'm a huge guac girl! The portions are generous, ensuring that you leave satisfied and eager to return. The fresh juices are incredible, my personal fav is the passion fruit juice. Nonetheless they have plenty of options! They even accommodated and made me bean tacos! Love this place, definitely a must if you're in the area.

Yelp
Definitely a great spot! Everything tasted good. Chips and salsa were fresh. The birria tacos and sopes were delicious! I loved the passion fruit juice. The service was great and food came out quickly! I will definitely be back!

Sharon T.

Yelp
I tried this place a couple of times hoping it would be better than it is. The food is old, veggies are old. No flavor. Even if the food was free I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Angelica G.

Yelp
I came here with a group of friends and our babies after the berry farms. We came because they have good reviews here on Yelp. However, once we arrived, we almost go somewhere else because the restaurant now looks very bad on the outside. The paint is gone. But because of the reviews and our hunger, we went inside to check it out and it looks fine on the inside. Now, food wise, most of it came out good, it tasted good. Except for the nachos that were served cold and kind of messy. The rest of the dishes were fine, I had a chicken quesadilla, my husband had a burrito that was good and big and we tried their tacos that were good- made with a single but tick caco shelf. And the sauces that came with it were pretty tasty The babies had French fries that were huge and good. Oh and I tried their passion fruit juice which was also good
google avatar

Lidice T.

Yelp
I have been going to Ernesto's taco shop for many years and love their food. I usually order a quesadilla. This last time I had their nachos and they were delicious. The employees are friendly.
google avatar

Fausto T.

Yelp
If you close at 10 pm and i get there at 8:55 pm don't tell me is take out only, change your hours instead so people don't drive to your location to give you business, we just went to applebee's
google avatar

Jeni H.

Yelp
From the outside I thought I might get tacos with a side of staph infection (turns out they were remodeling). The staff was extremely friendly, the food was delicious and their homemade mole was amazing. I got the steak tacos on corn with cilantro and onion. Great taco joint at a great price.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Wow they really lost there touch on making the best burritos. I mean I understand everything when up in price but just up the price don't sell people a sorry thin burrito . I was so disappointed

Cheebo N.

Yelp
Good lil spot round the way nothing to major. Quick service, good food, decent prices.
google avatar

Jerry D.

Yelp
I've lived here a decade and only recently decided to stop in, shameful. I chose the 3 Amigos because I love to try everything. I picked a carnitas, a barbacoa, and a chicken. I honestly cannot tell you which was the best because they were all different, and delicious. I had never had carnitas, don't judge, so that one was the most strange, but not in a bad way. I got there early, found easy seating, and enjoyed a quiet afternoon of delicious tacos. In the words of the Terminator, "I'll be bacccckkk."
google avatar

Kristine W.

Yelp
First I meant to do this on Wednesday mornimg. They have a deal on Tuesdays.I believe Taco Tuesday. It is a tray of different tacos with different sauces& guacamole & chips. We also ordered rice& beans to the side.We had ordered this before. It was very good. This time the food was terrible All of the meat in the tacos was totally dried out & had no flavor whatsoever. The sauces were gross .Guacamole also no flavor.Chips were good The rice,& beans were also good. Not ordering from there anytime in the near future.
google avatar

Miguel L.

Yelp
We ordered a 3 carne asada tacos and they served us the meat raw i have receipt of purchase i am beyond terrified at this time

Cristen T.

Yelp
Quick stop for Tex Mex. Lots of sauces to add including banana peppers. Great place for quick bite

Latoya S.

Yelp
Love the food but you can no longer call in Togo orders so I can no longer pick up food on lunch. I stopped going. Hopefully they allow call in orders again

Yelp
What a gem to find this place! Definitely hit the spot when I needed it most. The outside may not look like much but the food is delicious.

Yelp
Rating: 4.0 01/2021 Best taco joint in Cutler Bay! Conveniently located right off US1 and Caribbean Blvd, parking is a bit scarce but you can always try to park next door at Joann's fabrics. Been coming here for years. And it seems they changed management a couple of years ago. Restaurant: The restaurant has gone through some cosmetic makeover on it's exterior a couple of years ago and outside looks nice with their cactus/agave looking plants on beds of white rocks. They definitely stayed true to the Mexican theme inside with the brick walls and Mexican art and home decor. It's not a huge place but it's clean and there are a good amount of seating for everyone to enjoy. Service: Interaction with staff is very minimal. They are behind the counter or over the phone and as soon as they serve you your food, you honestly don't see them anymore. But they were always nice both over the phone and in person. There was a time where we would call to order food during our lunch breaks and they did not answer the phone which can be so frustrating especially during quarantine. You wan to be able to put your order in, pick up and go. But it seems that they are doing better now with that and we haven't had trouble since. Food: I bring everyone here and they all love it! My go to dish is their Nachos and may moons ago, under previous management, they had Nachos with Barbacoa! It was the BEST! Huge mountain of nacho chips, covered with cheese, pico, guac and a pile of aeromatic, so tender, so savory barbacoa meat! It's literally the best thing I've ever tasted. So now that I got that out of my system, I am sad that they no longer let you put barbacoa on nachos. Nowadays, I go for the El Pastor with the barbacoa, it's still delicious. And I also love the taco salad with steak, but be careful because sometimes, it can be salty. Overall, this is the best taco place because its convenient, affordable and delicious!

Jennifer N.

Yelp
If you love Mexican food or want to try Mexican food this is the place for you! I live close by and only recently went there and fell in love; it's my favorite spot and the food is so good!

Yelp
Definitely not a good experience, I stopped in for lunch break and ordered tacos, they were weren't done correctly and they were cold. Service was fast and friendly but I was very dissatisfied and will not be returning.

Yelp

Yelp
Bad experience today . Carne asada was over cooked , no flavor and very fatty . I couldn't go back since they're far from me. But I'm definitely calling them tomorrow.
google avatar

Ivanna P.

Yelp
I order from here very often, the food is always on point, the price is really good and the amount of food is great! I wish it was delivered faster but I guess that's more of an Uber issue. Still this place is great.

Emily C.

Yelp
Good service, food came fast. Clean environment. Average tacos, carne asada had lots of fat in it.
