I came in here after work/between work yesterday around 4pm with a coworker for a cold and refreshing beer. We looked at the menu and I picked a sour beer for $10. My friend asked if they had a cherry sour, the server said no, and then she ordered something else (also $10) and went to the restroom. On the way back, she talked to the other guy there who handles marketing and was sitting at the bar. He was really nice, welcoming, and even loaned her his cell phone charger.
So...the server told me he found a cherry sour in a bottle and would wait to see if my friend wanted it. When she sat down, the server guy came over with the bottle already open, assuming she'd want it. He didn't ask her and made no mention of the price, just poured it. It tasted "alright" so we sat and talked and drank. I paid for my drink when I ordered, so we didn't understand why her bill was $28 ($23 beer and automatic $5 tip).
My friend was really upset and asked the bill to be adjusted to the price she was told for the first beer.
The server smirked and was very short-tempered with us. She asked to speak to a manager and he said "the manager is never here," but also suddenly said he would just waive the whole charge, but had already charged her card anyway as she was talking! The way he handled the situation was very concerning and horribly unprofessional. We both have over 15 years of experience in the restaurant and bar industry and would never do this to anyone nor allow our employees to do so. ASK the customer if they want something they didn't order, and tell them the price! Especially when it's more than TWICE the price of what they originally ordered.
I don't recommend stopping here, but check your bill if you do. We feel like this guy is intentionally ripping people off/skimming for higher tips plus rude, which is really bad for the concept of attracting regulars and for long-term business.
