"After visiting a French restaurant with a similar outlook, inspiration struck to open this restaurant serving the best fish and seafood in a relaxed ambience. The focus at Escama is one that showcases the best maritime ingredients, which he always sources fresh from local fishermen. For your main, you can choose how you want to have your fish prepared (grilled, baked or poached), such as the sea bass, which is accompanied by a delicious champagne sauce and roasted onions. The menu also features options such as squid, shrimp, scallops and oysters, plus a splendid seafood feijoada on Fridays. The restaurant is located close to the city’s botanical garden, in a charming two-floor property with an extremely relaxed ambience enhanced by a decor of muted colours." - Michelin Inspector

We recently dined at ESCAMA, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and professional. The food was nothing short of extraordinary. The oysters were incredibly fresh and some of the best we’ve ever had. We absolutely loved the Goza Camarão and Usuzukuri—both dishes were perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The Strudel de Pirarucu was a standout: unique, innovative, and absolutely delicious. My wife and I genuinely believe that ESCAMA is deserving of a Michelin star. It’s a gem that combines exceptional cuisine with outstanding service. We can’t wait to return!

Best meal I had in Rio; food, service, and atmosphere were spectacular. The fish is fresh and really well prepared, and I recommend trying a crudo (something from the raw bar) and a cooked fish. One of my highlights from my trip to Brazil was eating outside on Escama’s lovely patio.

We had dinner there last week - a group of 15! We sat upstairs and loved it. The service and food were wonderful, and we felt very taken care of. Would definitely go back!

Our favourite spot in Rio! Couldn’t recommend it more. Tuna was incredible and such a good wine list. Thank you so much - we hope to return.

High quality fish with fresh vegetables. The bread starter with pickled veggies was amazing! They do simple dishes and the star of the plate is the fish. I recommend trying it.

Such a nice surprise, and probably our favorite restaurant in Rio so far. Hard to pick a highlight since every dish was so well executed and fresh. Their take on the traditional quindim is also amazing. The staff is friendly and we enjoyed their recommendations.

Unfortunately, would not recommend. My recommendation is that you go to Koral instead. Some dishes were over salted and others lacked flavour. For a Michelin star seafood restaurant (or any restaurant for that matter) I would expect better quality seafood. Skip the oysters. The staff were very kind and responsive, however service was incredibly slow, with not all dishes arriving. We went on a public holiday, so perhaps this had an impact on staffing levels (which is understandable).

A local gem. They're focused on seafood and the tuna tartare was one of my highlights. What makes the dish special is some local spices and a dash a mayo. Delicious! I also had the Bologna de Pulvo (pasta with seafood and octopus). Really fresh ingredients and sauce.
