Escape the Room Chicago (Oak Brook)

This is our second experience here with 9 people (one toddler) and the best time ever! Very fun and the staff is really great too. Cant wait to come back. Ariana was amazing and took our group photo too! Recommend the experience for everyone.

So fun! We did The Clocktower and there were so many creative puzzles. One of the best rooms we've done. And Angel was an awesome game master for us! Very attentive and offered just the right amount of guidance. We are visiting Chicago for just a few days, but we are coming back to try another one of the rooms. Highly recommend!

We escaped the "Theater," but when we needed clues, it took a little longer to be received. I think these escape rooms need pre-written clues so the clue typing wouldnt be on the clue master because typing takes time. There was no video to tell us when to start; the start of the game was when we were let in. The game experience was cool and I'm glad there were more people to help. The room needed some upgrades on the hardware because some devices or boxes did not pop open immediately. Our clue master with the ginger beard was cool and professional. Would I come back maybe so..

I came for a bachelorette party and we had the best time! The staff was friendly and helpful (as much as they could be). However, our pictures got mixed up with another group and we never ended up getting our group photo. Otherwise, this place was fun and well kept!

Had tons of fun doing Clocktower, even if we didn't escape. Very challenging, but felt like a fair room. Will definitely be back to try another room! Caleb and Tyler were great!

As first timers, it far exceeded what we were expecting along with the number of interactive items. Definitely prepared us on what to do and not be so afraid to interact with items next time. Vince was great, and she was helpful. Although we failed (because we didn't ask for enough clues as newbies), it was still very very fun.

We had a blast in the Jurassic room. It was tough, but Angel and Ryan helped us out with a few clues and we were successful. Great birthday fun for our family.

We did the outbreak room. Had a science teacher in there with us, which was super helpful. Staff super kind and accommodating. We really enjoyed our time. We had kids, aunts and grandma.

We had a blast, a great family gathering that will test how well you work together. We will definitely be back to visit. Thank you!

The rooms don't have logic. We wasted 30 minutes trying to figure a code from a set of five numbers and five colors and when we asked the worker how we were supposed to get the code they said "You're supposed know to ignore one of the colors". When I asked how we're supposed to figure that out, they said "you just have to know there's only four numbers, not five". When i asked where we're supposed to figure that information from they said, "You're just supposed to think of it."

First time at an Escape Room, I know, late to the game, but you should have invited me sooner! Went with coworkers for an early holiday gathering. We split into two groups as we had twelve of us. We kind of went in all cocky thinking we got this, and yeah no we didn't. Lol. But it was still fun and glad we did it. We worked as a team to solve the clues, but had to ask for a few hints along the way. They have many choices of rooms here, so would love to go back and try again and think my problems solving skills have improved.

Not great customer service. Unfriendly and non responsive when we were in the room. This is especially disappointing after spending hundreds of dollars to be there. Would not go back nor recommend to anyone.

It was definitely not the experience I expected. This was for a birthday for my son. When you walk in, it's just like a ghost town no welcome, nobody getting you excited no energy. The explanation of rules before going into the room felt rushed and again, no motivation. One thing they said was that we needed a clue to use the walkie and they would help us. We eventually had to use the walkie and when we did, it wasn't a good connection we couldn't hear the girl (Ariana) that well and when we ask her to repeat, there was dead silence for a while, so therefore, our time kept going without any help like they had promised. This was our first experience with an escape room and it was not good at all. To pay as much as we did experience should've been a lot better. This place needs to focus on getting each group hyped up before going to the room, explain slowly, the rules, and be available as promised when the group needs clues. Very poor customer service and it wasn't that exciting. Oh yeah, it's winter and they had no place for us to put her jacket so we were just hot in the escape rooms trying to play the game. So uncomfortable. They couldn't even offer a place to put our jackets.

I didn't think I would like Escape rooms but I was pleasantly surprised. They have different levels of rooms. I guess the dig room is one of the easier ones. Even with that I felt it was a challenge for our group of 7. You can ask for clues if you get stuck. I definitely recommend getting a clue as it's hard to solve a few of them without it. You have 60 minutes to get out of the room. Great for friend groups or co workers.

My daughter, like most tweens, loves a good Escape Room. She's also a big fan of Oak Brook mall so after we did a bunch of the other kid friendly activities (Sandbox VR, Immersive Gamebox, Putt Shack), we reserved an Escape Room for more fun. I was kind of hoping to let her and her friend do the Escape Room on their own and get some shopping time (worked out well at Sandbox VR and Immersive Gamebox). However, an adult needs to be present if the kids are under 14 years old. Escape Rooms booked Friday evenings, Sat and Sun also require a minimum of 4 people which meant I had to purchase 4 spots for the 3 of us. I called before booking to see which room was recommended for 6th graders and they told me to book The Theater. And so I did. It was my first Escape Room in many years and a lot of fun. The 6th graders definitely were better at it than I was, but i"d like to think I provided some help along the way. We did have to get a bunch of hints throughout the hour (props to anyone who can do this without hints!), but ended up finishing with just a few minutes to spare...phew! My daughter and her friend agreed it was the perfect amount of challenge for them and super fun...and have asked to go back for more Escape Room fun!

Awful experience and did not enjoy the room. Second bad experience here, and we should have learned the first time. This time the game master was very misleading and told us not to look in an area where there were several clues, purely because she couldn't be bothered to put it back together after we did the room. Will never ever be coming back and do not recommend. It really took away from us enjoying the room regardless if we could escape as we have done escape rooms with other businesses that we enjoyed and will be sticking to those.

We had Gabriel when we came in Saturday and he was an incredible and super helpful game master. We had such a great time for our friend's birthday celebration!

Took my brothers out to test our intellectual mettle at an escape room.. we selected the Jurassic. I thought it was an easy one. I was greatly mistaken!!! But I have nothing negative to say. This was beyond fun!!! And the proctor was best helpful. Just a great hang out idea.

My husband and I were meeting another couple at the ETR location. Unfortunately, we rarely go to Oakbrook Mall and had absolutely no idea where this place was. We looked at the website, the email waiver, iPhone maps, and Google and found ZERO information on where the location was in mall or what anchor store was the closest. We ended up being 15 minutes late (after the timer started). (By the old McDonald's location/lower level by the AMC entrance/Champs anchor store/ between the two parking garages) We booked "The Dig" and it was fun. Even though we were late and only had 45 minutes to play, we got up to the very last clue. Even the employee was impressed of how far we got despite starting late. They few negatives of the experience were 1. The room(s) was incredibly hot. They need to pump the AC. 2. The employee who walked us to the room spoke so fast when giving the directions. 3. Seemed a little unprofessional that the employees weren't wearing a ETR logo shirt or anything to signify they worked there. It was hard to take them seriously when they looked like the ragamuffins.

The rooms are really cool looking and very spacious, which is awesome. Definitely has some cool things in their rooms but the more high tech and cool the things are, the more that can break or not work properly. Have been here twice now, 2 different rooms, and each had similar issue of cool stuff but just doesn't work properly. Simpler rooms aren't as cool looking but they are better. I recommend 6 escape room in orland park.

My group of 3 joined two other small groups last minute and did the Jurassic themed room. We had a blast. The rooms were so creative and filled with tasks. We managed to escape with 45 seconds to spare. It was pretty challenging but we managed to escape with the help of the whole team and a worker giving clues. Arianna helped prepare us for the escape room and was really nice. I highly recommend coming; hope you can escape too!

WORST ESCAPE ROOM IVE EVER EXPERIENCED!!!! Buttons weren't working. Very cheap, zip ties were everywhere. Staff were not helpful. Can hear the rooms next to you so you can't even focus. Lack of direction and instructions for room. Did not expect this to be bad. The website is very misleading. Save yourself from the wasting your money not worth it at all. Walked out of the room with time left

This was my first escape room. It was also my sister and our friends first time. We told the employee that as well and asked for the second easiest escape room. He wasn't super helpful, as we all thought we had to solve things sequentially. We got stuck on a puzzle for the first 30 min until he finally chimed in with a clue to move on. What a waste of time! We had no idea! He started helping us more after that but after going to a second escape room tonight at a diff location- I see that the employee at the oakbrook location could have been better. The rooms were very nicely decorated and the diff types of activities were fun. It was extremely difficult for us first timers tho- we did not make it. I would try another one at this location now that we know what we are doing!

Jake was iconic, very funny and charming, room was fun! Great experience! We did the clock tower room, difficult yet compelling. Definitely recommend!

Went with a group of 5 for an 8:20 pm room yesterday and didn't get started until 8:50. Then, when we went in the room, the timer had already gone to 45 minutes left instead of an hour because they started us late. The manager girl (glasses, brunette) comes over, and has the audacity to say to us that she'll check to see if there's a group after us to see if we can play for the full hour. Zero apologetic attitude whatsoever. Imagine telling paying customers who were waiting for half an hour that they may not even get reset because of the next group. We then ask if a refund is possible in case we don't get the full hour, and she quickly says she'll just give us the hour and proceeds to slam the escape room door in our face. She definitely has zero customer service experience or is just intellectually challenged, I'm not sure if she's fit to be a manager at any type of establishment. We did beat the escape room though, and the operator guy for our room was fine.

That. Was. Amazing! This place is crazy tech-heavy. We did the South Park Escape room and it was the best one I've ever done! Comedy Central made it and so it had video clips with some of the characters and correct voices. It was amazing. I'm not supposed to talk much about the room so I won't but I was really really really impressed. There were multiple rooms to go into and lots of things to interact with. It really does feel like you're in the show. If you need clues and hints they will help you to a point. We were with a group who had never done an escape room before so it was a fun new experience for them. My husband was most impressed with how tech heavy the room was but again I can't really talk much about it without giving things away. I was pleased by how much there was to do. With 8 of us in there, we all had plenty of clues to play around with in order to solve the puzzles. There were some parts I literally had nothing to do with as I was involved with solving a completely different part. It was pretty cool. Sadly, we did not escape. But if we find ourselves in the area again ever I will be sure to book us here in one of the other nerdy rooms.

Really challenging and detailed rooms. We did the Jurassic park themed room and it was so much fun. The clue masters are just the right amount of helpful. We went as a group of three 2 kids and 1 adult). Price was expensive, but the kids had a blast so that makes it worth it. Look forward to making it back again one day.

Such a fun and tense experience! My anxiety was in overload... but it was an amazing time! I recommend at least 4 people. The room is designed well and you will never have a dull moment. They have a variety of room options. We chose the one that reminded me of Indiana Jones movies. We worked together and escaped with 2 seconds remaining. No picture taking allowed in the rooms. The facility is clean. The staff is helpful and goes over the expectations throughly. It's family friendly. You will have fun no matter the age! I would suggest sneakers, no heels. Be comfortable, you will do some moving.

Game master took forever to give clues which in turn led to our not escaping. Having done over 30 escape rooms where game masters usually walk you through the last room (literally one puzzle away), our game master said it was "policy". I think it was just an excuse honestly. Money grab for sure. Staff did not leave me with the warm and fuzzies. Had a much better experience at the Glendale, CA location. But we left with a "complimentary photo"... whomp whomp.

Workers were helpful but as much as I paid maybe not be worth it. I would consider the time you are going and weather it would be worth buying a private event. If it is later in the night then you may get the room for your self. Check their booking on their website. Hope this is helpful

This was by far the worst escape room experience I've ever had!! I've completed over 30 escape rooms with reasonable amounts of hints but "the Agency" had tiny pieces that we easily overlooked in their storage places. Set was designed to look nice but our game master was way too cryptic and we didn't get the feeling that they wanted to help us escape. At the end he basically said you were close, get out. He stated their policy was to not show you what you missed. Can you say money grab?! What, are they expecting people to waste their money again and try to escape the same room? Game masters are normally rooting for you but these ones don't care. Safe to say I will never go back to an 'Escape the Room' location. Save your money for escape rooms that care about your enjoyment. READ ALL THEIR 1 STAR REVIEWS!

This place is pretty fun! You reserve online and they're open groups for any individuals to join, so if you have a fairly big group plan ahead of time. We were checked in and had filled out info to receive a complimentary photo at the end of your experience. I was with 3 other friends along with another group of 4 working together in the escape room. We did the Cartman theme escape room, which was pretty fun! We did wish we had more assistance from the clue master that talked you through some things if you needed help since a lot of the clues we found were pretty challenging. But we had a really fun time!

We toured the submarine with the help of Nick B, and we have fun. We were able to get out!

I have never made a Yelp review, but my experience with this location has been the absolute worst. Last week on Tuesday, I booked a room for 12:00pm on Saturday for 5 people. My total came out to $170. When I showed up with my group on Saturday, there were no employees here. My party arrived 30 minutes early, and proceeded to waste the next hour waiting for someone to show up. I tried calling the number provided on their door and website. It seems to be linked to inside the business, in which no one is at. Seeing that their policy is that they don't offer refunds, I was completely ripped off of my money. DO NOT BOOK HERE. Especially if it's the first room of the day. Attached is the screenshot of my order confirmation.

Yesterday went to Escape the Room at Oak Brook with myself and 4 friends, so 5 of us total for an 8:20 reservation that we made several hours in advance. We arrived at 8:20 on the dot but were told they weren't ready for us yet so we had to wait in the waiting room. Keep in mind they have a 15 minute grace period which they refer to on their website to which afterwards your reservation is lost and you won't get a refund. So after about 25 mins of waiting we decided to ask again to which their front desk representative went to go find out what was happening and came back to tell us they were cleaning and now they're ready. We finally got into our room at 8:50 , 30 minutes behind schedule and without an real explanation. As we were in the room we noticed the timer to keep track of how long you have to do the room was already started and used 15 mins of the 1 hour timer. We than asked why the timer started and if we could get our full time and they said they have reservations after us so we can't get the full time and the timer started on time it's not their fault we were late. We than proceeded to ask if we could just get a full refund since it already costs 40 dollars a person for the escape room and since we wouldn't get our full time we didn't want to waste money. The manger, who was probably a college student , proceeded to be offended and yell at us for asking for the refund and screamed fine we can have the full time and slammed the door in our face. This was my 3rd time ever at the escape room and I was appalled by the behavior of the employees and how they would treat a customer about asking for a refund. The manger was so rude and after that argument it killed the vibe so much I would never go back and would recommend you do another activity at Oakbrook instead.

This was so much fun. We chose one of the harder rooms, jurassic escape, and ended up escaping in time to make the leaderboard. I love how you can use unlimited hints, and the room was very immersive. Angel, who was our game master, was very helpful when we needed hints, and even helped us book a second game because we had the time. I love the mall this location is in, and will definitely be coming back when I am back in town.

Awesome activity for tween birthday! We ES aped with 0:58 to spare! Birthday boy loved it!

The outside doesn't look like much and it is hidden in a corner of the mall. Even the lobby is well a lobby. However once you are in the room the fun begins. It is an experience for all to enjoy! Families, friends and we did it for team building at work. They were great at laying out the rules and helping us out when we needed a clue. Staff was friendly and wonderful to work with. Even as we literally had a last minute person join us they were able to get us in and going on time. Can't wait to try out more of their rooms!

The room we picked was fun and the people working (Brandon and Ryan) were extremely friendly and knowledgeable.

Worst Experience of My Life! To begin, we were rushed into the room without instructions or the storyline explained. The staff was atrocious. And that's an understatement. Even though we arrived on time, and we were late getting into the room due to the staff, they started our 1 hour timer before we even entered the room. We never were able to be immersed into the story as they yelled at us over the speaker because they were thought we cheated and when we proved we didn't cheat they put us on "high surveillance." As the rules were never explained to us we were unaware of the no photo rule. When a member of my group took a selfie, that didn't not show any of the room, the flood lights were turned on and the entire game was disabled without warning by the staff. All I can say is never attend this place and I hope the staff (specifically the 19 year old boy with purple hair) is fired. The guy with purple hair and butterfly necklaces (he refused to give his name) was the most rude employee I ever had the displeasure of encountering. If I could I would give them zero stars!

Wanna do an escape room? Then go HERE! You won't be disappointed. This is only the second escape room I've ever done but this one was leaps and bounds above the other place I went. The other seemed like a cheap knock off you might find in the Dells. This place had amazing production values and the props really sold the experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The clues and puzzles made sense and I think anyone has at least half a chance of figuring things out. I did the clock room and I loved it. Can't wait to go back and try a different room. The only reason I don't give five stars is some of the props and parts of the room look well used and felt a bit grimy. Almost like they may not have been cleaned entirely well. And some of the props could be replaced or need a fresh coat of paint. But it didn't ruin the experience and these were small issues in my opinion. Overall a great experience for friends or co-workers to do as a group activity.

Horrible room, do not pick the The Dig what a waste of $158!! I have been to several other escape rooms and they have all been progressive, meaning you finish one room and take all the clues to the next one and proceed from that room and keep going to a different room each time! This place had no real fun clues to find and you kept having to walk back and forth to the first room to get clues from the second. The staff did not explain that either, at least give some general direction Like I said I have been to several and escaped all but one. This one SUCKED the room was small and didn't go anywhere. Then after we totally bombed the guy came in and acted like we were idiots. It was just stupid and not fun at all. For $160 go bowling, they at least have cocktails and food!!

Great family fun!!! We didn't complete it but came close enough. Lol!

Checked out Escape the Room on a moms and daughters night out, two moms and two 11-year old girls. We had another couple in the room with us, who might have been on a first date. I've done a lot of escape rooms, my daughter has done 7-8, but the others were first timers. The good: the rooms are very ornate with fancy, themed doors, lots of technology, unique types of clues and challenges, and a lot to keep everyone busy. The bad: the clues/challenges were not as "tight" as other escape rooms I've done. Maybe it was the use of all the tech, but a couple puzzles didn't work right when we solved them. We had to ask for a lot of hints, and then we would get hints for things we had already solved or hints that didnt really help us because the puzzle itself wasn't working. Overall we still had fun and we were able to escape with just seconds left! The girls really enjoyed it and we are already planning on another escape room with the rest of our families.

This was really fun. We did the Cartman one, and while the puzzles were fun, the puzzlemaster was there when we needed help. Plus, the theming was on point

Went here for my birthday with my boyfriend. Best escape room ever!!!! Sooo clean and nice and i literally felt like i was in a movie. Our clue master Malcom was super helpful and nice! We will definitely be back.

I would avoid this place at all cost, would not refund our money. Neglected to tell us that we would be required to wear our mask in our private room with just 5 family members, no outsiders. We are all fully vaccinated and felt that it would be difficult to communicate and uncomfortable to breathe in a small confined space. I understand if the company wants to mandate that, which makes no sense to me. But the refusal to refund our money in unacceptable. Please share my thoughts, anyone you know to avoid doing business with this company based on their unwillingness to simply refund our money. If the company wants to change their mind and refund our money, I will change the post that you changed ur mind and we're accommodating. I will share this with all my other social media platforms.

Very exciting. Open your mind and get to work! We lost but I had a marvelous time. We got close but I'm sure the next time we go I will do much better.

Brandon was an amazing game master. He was there when we needed clues and didn't give away too much that we didn't feel he took the pleasure of the game away. We did two rooms (The Clock Tower) was the best one we did today. He was very friendly and we enjoyed working with him.

The room was well detailed. Our party of 7 was super excited to do this experience! It was being done for a birthday party. Unfortunately the employees kill the experience! The ownership hired a 19 year old with purple Hair that was clearly pissed off that he had to work on a Saturday night. The employees paid no attention to our party, gave no explanation on the room we were going to do. Had a horrible interaction with our party. Personally I would never attend this company until they hire appropriate staff. However room was supper detailed and looked great. They charge $30 a person. Multiplied by 7!! For a single hour. This is way more then a hotel room stay. Wake up call to the ownership! The guy with the purple hair is not the person you should have running you establishment!!! Especially in oakbrook!! My bill was over $280 for a single hour! And to be treated with such horrible customer service is an absolute disgrace to any customer!! Hire appropriate staff! Staff that has some sort of customer service experience! The purple haired guy is clueless and honestly... rude! Entitled and acts like he is god! I hope the purple haired guy reads this! You are definitely in the wrong line of work! Maybe look into Uber or prime deliveries. Something where you can hide away from real customers. You Suck! Your horrible! Your an entitled little **shole You are horrible and you should be ashamed of your self! If you were my kid I would completely disown you! Basically your a loser... sorry bro your a loser! You ruined my wife's birthday. Basically you suck dude. you hurt the people that employe you and the customers that serve your employees. Get lost brother! Society doesn't need you any longer! Stop wasting the world's oxygen!

I've done several other escape rooms and was excited to try this one. Unfortunately, poor customer service defined our experience and made it an awful evening (and waste of money!). A very crass employee treated us with disrespect from the minute we arrived. There was no introduction, clues/support were not given when requested, and eventually we left without finishing because we couldn't handle being treated so poorly by a teenager with purple hair. I'd save my money and skip this for sure!

Very fun and challenging experience, very enjoyable with family and friends. I love how they incorporated many different skills to help solve the puzzles such as decoding passwords, using stuff learned in clues, and etc.
