An Editor’s Favorite New York-Style Pizza in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"I find Esco’s serves massive slices with plush crusts and ample cheese; the sauce can be a tad aggressive—almost too salty—but overall it’s a solid entrant to the slice scene." - Matthew Kang

Google
Esco’s serves slices so big they should come with their own zip code. Truly East Coast-authentic — the kind of slice you automatically fold, even if you’re from LA and have no idea why you’re folding it. Perfectly chewy crust, great sauce, generous cheese… it’s the closest thing to grabbing a slice on the corner in New York or New Jersey without having to complain about the subway. If you want a real East Coast pizza pie in LA (and a slice the size of your face), this is the place. The price tag is a bit expensive ($30 per pie) but they deliver.

Google
Amazing really. Got a too good to go bag and it came with 3 giant slices that were all different. The one with ricotta and pesto was amazing, as well as the cheese. I couldn’t believe it! It was late night as well and I was so happy with it and I would definitely come back again. The pizza itself is not that oily and you could eat on an empty stomach without having any issues. It was great and highly recommend!

Google
Ok the pizza and service was A1! The parking situation really sucks! It’s a very busy intersection and busy strip mall so lots of incoming and outgoing traffic in the parking lot. Be ready for that. We opted to eat in the car because it was a bit stuffy in the pizza spot but that’s to be expected especially if you’re from NY you know this! Esco was serving us and very friendly. My husband is from NJ born and raised between NY and NJ so finding authentic pizza in California has not been easy these last 10 years. We have been up and down the state in search of pizza that he can tolerate. He finally said he liked a pizza here in California and it’s here at Escos. With that being said we tried a plain slice, a pepperoni slice and the margherita. All has really good flavor, it had the crunch and it had the hometown grease sliding down your hand ifykyk.. don’t sleep on this I highly suggest you stopping and giving it a try!

Google
Pizza was fire! Served hot and fresh. I’m always looking for New York style pizza around the city and this place checks all of the boxes. Better than Mulberry Street and some of the other chains that are around. It’s a small little pizza joint but what more do you need? Highly recommended!

Google
The pizza was amazing! It was like being back in New York again. The owner was so nice and I loved all the new pizzas he came up with. My favorite was the pepperoni and ricotta with hot honey. Definitely going to be my new pizza spot!

Google
We flew into LA this morning and wanted to grab lunch before heading north out of town. We did a google search for the best thin crust pizza in LA. Esco’s came up first, so we hopped in the rental and drove straight over. We were SO glad we did! The pizza was delicious…that crust! It had just the protective amount of crispiness and was rich in flavor. Esco was warm and inviting. He made us feel welcome - real gem of a guy. Now we just wish he’d open a store in Dallas where we live!

Google
Super friendly staff, really nice layout, awesome lunch deals, the pizza was amazing. The hot honey pepperoni was really something different, so so good. For sure recommend!

Google
This place was a letdown. The photos don’t represent what’s current. We expected a cool restaurant like the photos from what previous customers have posted. It’s moved locations entirely. We decided to eat in the trunk of the car. Pizza was okay. $40 for just a large average pizza seems insane. The toppings were good and the pizza was hot, but the crust was oddly chewy. The garlic knots seemed fresh!

Yelp
Very NY...you can tell they live their NY Nick's. The staff was nice. Its a black owned pizza place that offers pizza by the slice. Their 3 cheese white pizza was very flavorful. There's a few seats inside and a few outside.

Yelp
The guy told me the pizzas had been out for 20 minutes.....as if that was ok. I like Fresh, Hot Gooey pizza. He said, "once I reheat it, it'll be good." He had a veggie coming out but I don't like veggie (too many ingredients). I ordered the pepperoni, white & veggie slices, an order of wings & 2 knots (bread). The pepperoni slices (with sausage & reheated) was very good. I added mushrooms (they were raw) & olives to the white pizza......had they been cooked I strongly believe it would've been delicious but it wasn't & the veggie, yes it was hot but too many veggies & those dry lemon pepper wings, never buying those again. The knots; 1 was over cooked. The place had people coming in & out. It's small & the two guys working inside weren't friendly at all; not like the dudes next door at the taco spot. Would I return, for the pepperoni , yes but at $7.00 per slice.....Mehhhh; u can get a whole greeezy pizza at Costco for $9.99 & a slice for $1.99.

Yelp
Passed this place a bunch of times. Finally tried it a few times. It was empty both times I came in but very clean spot and had plenty of pizza slices and options and they all looked good. Friendly staff. I don't know a better pizza place on Pico. Very recommended if you want a slice and you're in the area. Pizza slices 5-7 bucks which isn't cheap but fine for a quality non chain pizza by the slice.

Yelp
Clam pizza!!! Nice big New York style slice with a great crust. The kind you fold in half and eat like a sandwich. I fed my family while they were visiting and it was a big hit. A beautiful lemon wedge on each slice. Ample clams. Yum yum! It arrived a little cold because the driver seemed to be around but wasn't coming up. I called the restaurant and they told me they would take care of it and a couple minutes later my pizza delivery person is knocking at the door. Would definitely order again. + 1 star total for the service and the dough.

Yelp
Went and had a slice for lunch today. The owner was there and was chatting with the customers. He seems like a really nice guy. This has become my favorite pizza in the neighborhood, and the slices are large. The only downside is that there is limited seating with just a couple of tables and a couple of stools along the bar on the side. I am definitely a fan!

Yelp
I was in looks of a pizza spot so I thought I'd give it a try with my brother. Came in with high hopes after seeing the reviews. When walking in the spot is very small but the workers were very kind. We tried two slices one pepperoni and one bbq chicken. The pizza was very very well done a little too much for my liking we ate it there to get the full experience and unfortunately the spot wasn't for me.

Yelp
I have intended for several years to stop in and finally today having driven from Sepulveda along pico looking for an affordable vegan meal I found their seven dollar slice - perfection!

Yelp
* From the moment I walked in, the customer service was friendly and professional. * The restaurant is super clean inside, and the setup is convenient for grabbing a quick bite or dining in. * I ordered the vegan margarita slice and garlic knots, and it was AMAZING! The pizza crust was perfectly crisp, the sauce was fresh and flavorful, and the vegan cheese melted beautifully. *The garlic knots are literally perfection. I loved everything so much that I've gone back at least 4xs. *Parking is never an issue since it's within a plaza. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who loves pizza!

Yelp
This spot is legit! If you like New York style pizza, then you need to find yourself here. Big pieces, thin crust, light sauce and just dripping with flavor. The man himself is in the back whipping the pies up but he'll come out and give you a New York welcome. And the logo - such a creative play for a hard core Knicks fan!
google avatar

Carlo B.

Yelp
Definitely New York style pizza - slices Were massive, tastey, and presented in the traditional class case. I had a chicken parm and veg. Friend had the cheese and she really liked it. The Crust def had thin Crispy consistency with a little bit of chew. Veg slice was my fav but i was happy to see chic parm pie, nobody else does that here. Pizza was an absolute five star , easily top 3 in LA w apolonias, maybe prime in there. Garlic knot was weak, they're too big and don't have ny/nj chew that we love. Also the sauce was ice cold, that's a cardinal sin for me. Service was quick but i wish would have taken a little longer to fully heat everything. Vibe is cool too. Will definitely try again for full pie.

Yelp
Ambiance: it's a trendy New York style pizza place, one of the best in the area, it used to have very stylish decorations with a show room like the subway at the original place, and the new location has more convenient parking Service: super friendly and patient with questions, provided useful information about their specialties Food: plenty ready to eat pizza, and you can order by slice or a whole pizza, their slices are much bigger than ordinary pizza places, and the pizza all tasted so crispy Chicken Parmesan - *** average Meat Lover's - **** pepperoni, assuage, bacon, recommend Pesto Cheese - **** vegan choice, no nuts, recommend Price: generous portions and affordable prices, it costs $10~$15 per person for a very fulfilling meal

Yelp
Excellent customer service very nice delicious food the too thank you sara for the service

Yelp
The pizza here is pretty good, the chicken wings were a little dry taste was good tho~ The reason i gave a 3 star is because the registers is located below the pizza display, which i dont think its sanitary. Also, the guy who took our order and our money did not wash his hands after I gave him cash. There was no napkins to be found anywhere, no utensils, no straws and only 2 little tables. So, I'm guessing it's more for take out. Plus it was really hot inside. Oh our total for 3 slices of pizza and 8 piece ck wings+3 drinks came out to $39.
google avatar

Enrique M.

Yelp
We ordered the $30 pepperoni Pie. It was good. But I didn't get the "woah" experience I was expecting! The pizza was huge and definitely worth the price but I would love to be back and give a different pizza a try soon.
google avatar

Kandece B.

Yelp
Came here on lunch, so the visit was quick. I ordered the pizza slice and a supreme slice came up to $12. The gentleman that helped had a deep new Yorker accent and was so polite. The environment was laid back with a east coast vibe for sure. All I would say was that it was not as cheesy as I would have liked it but the flavors were good
google avatar

Yelp
The pizza arrived hot! We got garlic knots too. Good pizza nice chewy crispy dough. Nice toppings pizza was well topped the center of the pizza was as crispy as the rest. Look pizza in this area is pretty competitive so success requires an edge. Esco's edge is size this is not your ordinary sized pizza it's a big fucking pizza there I said it.. So in essence this is a very well executed NY STYLE pizza. Better than most. Made with care. I can tell the person who made this had to be focused when making this thing! Big and beautiful. I like the bold sauce. Fresh herbs . Plenty of it. Ok there's a bad part. The parking in that strip mall is fucked. We had this one delivered. I can't imagine doing a pickup. Finding a lunch time parking slot is the way to go. Not busy still shitty parking. Have a slice. BFS. Place is new. I think its parking situation will be its demise. Loose a star because of parking experience we had the other day. First attempt. Park up the street on pico and walk over for some slices!!

Yelp
Food, Service, and Ambiance of this New York style pizza spot is 10/10!! If you haven't tried this spot out yet, you're missing out!!! My boyfriend and I came by looking to try out their single slices of pizza he has their delicious margarita pizza which he loved! And I had the supreme which was also very delicious. They even offer hot honey or regular on the side. And their hot honey was the best we ever tasted! We also had ordered an empanadas to share but didn't realize how full that one slice of pizza will get you! So we decided to bring it home but holy the size of the empanada was worth the wait! If you're in the area and want to try out a pizza spot, stop by here and dine in so the pizza is hot and fresh for you.

Yelp
Relatively Quick and Delicious Food that would satisfy the group parties. They had an intimate space of around 5 or so seats, great for the small groups that don't mind squeezing in the round table and the bar stool seating. Margherita pizza was a solid! I personally added some extra garlic powder and basil back home for more flavor. And they taste great re-heated in the oven. The bread part can be become hard and not packed as much flavor but if you dip in their garlic roll tomato sauce it taste better. Their garlic roll was fluffy and enough that I want to try their Nutella next time. The pizza was really big and matched the price approx $40. They have a variety of other flavors. Service was fast, laid back, and gives the typical New York style pizza spot vibe. Restroom: No

Yelp
Always drive by and finally stopped in . I got a tradition pepperoni and cheese pizza . I'm not normally a crust girl, but this pizza had the perfect crunch. Not greasy, I really liked it. The place was small but cute and the customer service was nice. I recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Solid... Nice crunchy undercarriage, the crust was light but crunchy, solid sauce on that bad boy. Service was quick too, my guy behind the counter said "first time, don't worry it won't be your last" MF'er read me like a book!
google avatar

Keylee L.

Yelp
All the slices were so good I burned the roof of my mouth, but it was worth it. The cheese and margherita slices were the best, 10/10 cheese pulls iykyk. Tons of parking out front, but not a lot of places to sit and eat. I would suggest taking it to go. Service was 10/10 and a fresh pizza took about 15 minutes to make. I want to try the knots next time I go.

Yelp
I have never really known what it's like to have a neighborhood spot to frequent until I walked into Esco's one night a few months back. Immediately, the ambiance is warm, familu friendly, and energetic. And as we navigate a world where our leaders seem colder and colder, it's more special when the rest of us can feel more like neighbors than strangers. I'm dairy free, which means until now, I've had to travel across LA for a slice of pizza with dairy free cheese. Esco's is less than 10 minutes from me, the slices are huge and delicious, and the prices are fair. By my third visit, the manager (or owner?) knew me by name and remembered my order. I was shocked and more compelled to keep supporting this business. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Daniel J.

Yelp
Great place for a quick slice! NY styled pizza that are sold by the slice. The staff was quick and helpful. I would definitely go back for a quick slice while on the go. The theme of the place is NY Knicks, so super vibey.

Alex C.

Yelp
This pizza joint is so cool! The owner is super down to earth , and noble! I'm very glad my wife and I found this pizzeria. 10/10! The location is also super clean & and has both to dine in and to take to go. Definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Brionna K.

Yelp
Absolutely love Escos. I've been to both locations on La Brea and was excited to see they moved even closer to my place. The staff is incredibly friendly and hard working making this review super easy! Pizza is amazing and salad and bread sticks are super fresh!! Don't think twice!! Stop by and grab some amazing New York style pizza!
google avatar

Martina W.

Yelp
I've tried nearly every, if not every, vegan pizza option in LA. When I tell you this is too 3, I am not exaggerating. There are only two vegan options but that wasn't even an issue for me. It was so good I didn't even care that there were only two options. If you're vegan and craving pizza, walk don't run. Service was also really good.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Fantastic pizza and about as close to a New York slice as you're gonna get on the west coast. I also recommend ordering with ranch as well, it's delicious!
google avatar

Naketa D.

Yelp
Pizza was decent, Needed more cheese Was expecting sauce to be more " New Yorky " size/ slice was like New York style, but it was just coo. Service was coo. Inside of restaurant was coo. Small business but it was just coo for me ‍
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
I'm so hooked on this pizza now. I stop by for 2 slices at least twice per month now. The owner is very friendly, and the pizza is New York style and very tasty.
google avatar

Miles S.

Yelp
Real NYC vibes! Harlem world stand up! Esco is a legend and his family ran operation deserves all the light. He's been making pizza for nearly his whole life and put in more than his 10,000 hours. That's why the quality and taste will have you doubling back like the Boston/NY sports rivalries always do, each season. Pull up and support today, stay eatin!

T W.

Yelp
As a New York transplant that has been in LA for a while, anytime someone says it's just like NY Pizza and am now skeptical. This hole in the wall pizza joint is good though. Crispy crust, good sauce, and it actually has flavor. Service is not warm and friendly but you're not sitting and eating there. I just take my delicious pie and enjoy it somewhere else.
google avatar

Kamron H.

Yelp
Solid pizza joint in mid-city. Great if you love NY style. Also, the Nutella knots are pretty good for dessert too
google avatar

Michael Thompson M.

Yelp
Solid NY-style slices, tasty garlic knots, and quick service. Great spot for a casual bite.
google avatar

allison j.

Yelp
Delicious and vegan options!!! This place is the absolute bomb. Slices are huge. We will be back!
google avatar

Charlzetta W.

Yelp
Local spot, open late, not far from the freeway and near a lot of the places I frequent for errands. Personally I'm not a huge pizza lover and I've never had pizza in New York for comparison but luckily my daughter is and has been to New York and tried several. With that she says the prices are fare $5 cheese and $6 pepperoni. The slices are big and it tastes as expected. The garlic knots were soft, hot, and pleasant and only $3. She will definitely order again when needing a quick meal and near by.
google avatar

Sandra W.

Yelp
The pizza was like how it is in NYC. I lived in NYC upper west side for awhile and pizza is my nightly go to. Happy to have found this gem. The sauce is spot on and crust is just chefs kiss. The garlic knots were a little too greasy but pizza wise....really great. This place also have great beverage options.
google avatar

Angela P.

Yelp
Incredible fresh pizza. What a hidden gem. Slices were only $5.25 and were made fresh in front of us! Black owned, LA winner for best pizza. Relaxed, casual ambience. Just all around impressed with this spot.

Greyson T.

Yelp
I absolutely love this pizza. Def best Iv had in a min. Ingredients were fresh and it was actually really hot and gooey cheese! Def will repeat.
google avatar

Jenina M.

Yelp
One of the BEST NY style pizzas I've ever had. The flavor, sauce-to-topping ratio, and crunch of their pizza was top notch. The staff were super friendly. The owner was kind and took time out to explain the history of his shop. You could really tell that he had a lot of pride and passion for his business. The ambiance is the only eh part of this place. It was all NY knicks inspired. Blah! As a die hard LAker fan, I couldn't get down with it but I completely respect Esco's passion for his home team. It was an amazing place and would return when I'm in that neck of the woods.
google avatar

Carissa A.

Yelp
We were a bit confused when we first arrived because the location looked super different than in the pictures on Yelp. Turns out, the same owner owned a different location and has since moved to this smaller location. Since it is much smaller, it appears to be mostly a takeout spot but has some seats for indoor dining. We were lucky to grab a table inside. It's always so nice to be able to grab pizza by the slice. This place boasted NY style pizza and it was really good!! The white slice with mozzarella and ricotta was delicious! We also got a supreme slice and it was yummy. The crust is thin and crisp! The garlic knots are huge. They're so good!! It's got a good crunch at the bottom but soft and buttery up top. We got lemon pepper wings too. They were average. Esco was serving his customers and was very friendly. Would def this place to locals craving pizza!
google avatar

Madeleine B.

Yelp
This is solid pizza in the Fairfax area. It's on par with the other places I've tried so far, which is a solid 8/10. Doesn't beat real NYC pizza but it's good. I tried the sun dried tomato pizza and cheese slice. Both were thin, cheesy, and really hot. I'd come back.
google avatar

Billy K.

Yelp
Great pepperoni pizza!!! Everything about this pepperoni pizza was awesome. Crust, sauce, cheese, pepperoni, and the way it was made. Sorry for the no pix.
google avatar

Vito K.

Yelp
Fantastic first experience! As a born and raised New Yorker, I always have to pull up to any New York style pizza shop I see. My son and I kept it simple, a slice each. Loved the flavor and crispiness as well as the fold ability of the slice. My son says five out of five and I agree haha Esco himself, very cool dude! Chatting it up with us, exchanging stories. I definitely recommend for a great slice. I know my family and I will be back sooner than later to try more many items.
google avatar

Shivani K.

Yelp
Food: 8/10 The pizza was pretty solid but it was just regular pizza. Service: 9/10 They were quite nice! Ambiance: 8/10 The vibe is super cool. However, the seating is so scarce that we had to fit like 6 people on a two person table.
google avatar

Elana B.

Yelp
Esco's is 100% my favorite pizza place to grab a slice! You can tell by my photo that the slices are huge! I get full from just one slice... but I like the food so much that I order a second one anyway! It's so rare to find a place that lets you order everything on the menu by the slice. The owner is so nice that I came in and mentioned that I was looking forward to tasting the hot honey pepperoni slice because I saw it on their instagram, but they didn't have it ready in shop, so he said he would make a fresh one so I could get it! There's inside and outside seating. And there's meter parking all along la brea. The only time I ever struggled to find parking was on Sunday for lunch since there's a church across the street. Elana s Esco's

Yelp
We gotta stay healthy therefore I don't want no mo pork on my fork (lol) ... so please point me in the direction of the nearest place that sells the best "Turkey Pepp" Pizza in town... No one and no place, other than Esco's Pizza! We heart y'all and I am now a believer. The customer service is what compelled us to at least try a slice- Shout out to Rome. We met these folks on a hot day in Studio City, catching me off guard while I was swiftly walking into Miss Marys Beauty Supply. We started off with a slice next thing you know we ruled out going to our top favorite spots (none which have turkey pepperoni) , just to go see something.... and ended up purchasing a whole pizza pie. It was delicious! It was definitely worth it not to mention that you can taste the love Esco puts into his pizza. Give him a try- good Job, Esco!

Hello T.

Yelp
I love the slices, which come out piping hot, are HUGE and have only a half-inch of crust instead of one of those big doughy collars that you don't eat anyway. But today I bought my first whole pie, which did have a doughy 1.5"-2" collar of crust. For a $45 pizza? I hate that. Last thing, it was incredibly soggy. Would it have killed them to keep it in the oven for another two minutes?
google avatar

Grace A.

Yelp
AMAZING. Our waiter was a fine young woman (curly headed) and she had the same attitude as my granny. So charming. Esco was in the back throwing pies left and right! Zoo wee mama! Don't hit me with a pie!! I would come back for a bite of his sausage. Great vibes.
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
Pizza is probably my absolute favorite. Been there once and love it so much. Got to meet the owner he was kind and busy cooking my food. They can get busy so just plan ahead, also the shops little so don't be there to early I can imagine it can get crowded. But great pizza, vibes, and staff
