The Best Food Moments of 2020 | Eater London

"During lockdown it acted as a grassroots hub for community food initiatives: it hosted #congeecon, a communal congee event where everyone brought their own toppings for a pick-and-mix congee followed by an important conversation about coronavirus-related anti-racism; later it organized an Asian dessert exchange during the second lockdown—essentially a Secret Santa-style postal swap—that encouraged people to try new Chinese dessert recipes, feel less alone, and stay connected." - Adam Coghlan

A beautiful place for community service. There are dining rooms for community lunch club, playroom for table tennis and ma jiang, consultation room for free advice, beautiful garden at the end. People are friendly and welcoming to my visit. I look forward to joining the club and hopefully volunteering for some events.

A rare find in London where I can actually feel at home as a member of ESEA community! Converted from a former bath house, this centre is also interesting in architecture.

Please don’t host anymore event if there isn’t capacity and you aren’t sure if there is going to be enough food. We stood around more than 3 hours from 1 pm until 4 pm waiting for food. Mind you this is a paid and ticketed event. Absolutely horrid organisation.

Fantastic building, amazing team of volunteers, excellent coffee and food, wonderful community. I'm so sad we're leaving the area just as they've opened this place and will be sure to drop by every time we visit town.

Friendly. Welcome and inclusive. To all ethnic and ages. Mainly seniors. Healthy South East Asian meals. WiFi available. Sometimes with the overflow of visitors, uncovered seating outside in the garden. Can be a bit nippy if the wind is cold. Toilet bins are too small for so many guests. Need bigger ones. Needs reservation for lunch as very popular.

The cafe has made a huge difference. Having visited the old and new centres, the difference is night and day, as the cafe in the front of the centre makes it feel open and welcoming to casual passersby and locals. It is the perfect gateway to bring people in to get involved in the rest of the centre programme where before they might have felt intimidated or that this wasn't for them. Congratulations to ESEACC on the move in general and particularly on the forward-looking addition of a modern cafe that can rival anything in the Dalston area. Making steps like this to bring in more diverse community engagement is exactly what's needed to bring the centre into the future and keep evolving.
