Eshel - Review - Upper West Side - New York - The Infatuation

"On the Upper West Side, Eshel is a kosher Persian and Mediterranean restaurant. They’ve got things like lamb arayes, lots of skewered things off the grill, and tahdig. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Pros: tasty food. Fresh. Good service. Cons: atmosphere. Presentation. While visiting NYC I went to check out Eshel. We tried many items in the menu. The koobideh kebab was really really good. Juicy and tender. Well seasoned. The chicken shawarma tacos need work. Poorly seasoned and drenched with oil. The lentil stew was average. With poor presentation. The dried lime and herb stew was well made. Definitely tasted home made and very comforting. Unfortunately the presentation is not appetizing. There’s a great opportunity to step up and go from good to great. Rice was good. The music was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation, even the waitress found it loud and was kind enough to turn it down. Our service was great thanks to the waitress.

It’s a beautiful new restaurant that opened up serving middle eastern dishes on the uws with a large space. I Had an amazing dinner with friends, The foods delicious with so many different flavors to order we got the barg and koobideh with many side appetizers the whole menus pretty great overall and I’d highly recommend checking this place out if you haven’t had Persian food before New gem 💎 Great place to bring family and friends Totally vibes for business casual so don’t miss out !

I had dinner at this restaurant with several girlfriends. The food was delicious and the ambiance was lovely. Most importantly, the service was extraordinary. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. She overheard us say that we forgot to order a birthday dessert for our friend and took it upon herself to bring out a complimentary dessert with a candle so that we could celebrate. A gem of a restaurant and human being!!

Amazing experience! I’ve never been to Iran, but if I had to guess, I would imagine the food there tastes like Eshel. About time for a kosher Persian restaurant in the city. Quality and taste is as good as the kosher Persian restaurants on Long Island.

Excellent Glatt Kosher Persian cuisine with cozy atmosphere. Liquor and wine are not yet available as the establishment still has a license pending, however do not let that deter you from a superb dining experience. The dried lime and herb beef stew is a must!

We had a wonderful dinner at eshel. Karolina provided great recommendations. We had the cauliflower on tahini, garlic green beans, and beef kebabs. We also tried the lentil beef stew on saffron rice. DEF RECO GETTING THAT. Wow. Everything was cooked to perfection. The place has a lovely ambience. Highly recommend checking this out.

Delicious food, especially enjoyed the lamb arayes (ground lamb stiffed pita pockets), which are so yummy dipped in the amba sauce!

Yelp
We had high hopes going here. The place looked high end and the ambiance was pleasing. Authentic Persian food sounded amazing. But I have to believe most of these reviews are either 1) not real; 2) from employees; or 3) from people who have never eating Persian food before. The actual food was both overpriced and underwhelming. Kabobs were flavorless and at $40, we felt ripped off. Tabouli was all bulgar wheat and almost no parsley or taste, and the rice tasted like air and nothing. They charged us $10 for a bottle of water which we did not order...very sneaky. Was asked how our meal was and we were honest that it had been sub par and disapponting. Received a shoulder shrug and then they dropped the $200 on the table. We left unhappy, still hungry, and felt ripped off. This is the kind of place you try once and probably won't go back again.
