This slightly upscale Latin cafe just opened on Gaston Ave, directly across from Baylor Medical (which also means it's a very short walk from the Baylor Medical DART rail station.) This was my first visit, and my only complaint is that I didn't have the belly room to try more stuff. I will be back here MANY times!
I had a Beef & Potato empanada, a Shredded Beef burrito, and a Guava jam & cream cheese empanada. Wow. Just....wow.
The empanada crusts are fresh, light, and buttery. The fillings were just right in terms of flavor, not overpowering the crust, but richly complementing, instead. The Romeo & Juliet (guava jam & cream cheese) came crusted with course sugar crystals, and the filling is orgasm-sounds-inducing.
Empanadas are so simple, right? But, it's still easy to screw them up. I find most to be too greasy, or soggy. Not an issue, here. Perfect.
Same with the tortilla on the burrito. Fresh, and handmade. Gloriously tender, and the filling was hearty and tasty. They offer several sauces, so be sure to try them all.
They serve other Latin favorites, such as Arepas (corn based bread with filling. Think "gordita" if you're from Tex-Mex land. They also have sandwiches and bowls. I can't wait to get my face-hole around a Cuban sandwich and a Tres Leches empanada.
Also, they have a decent breakfast menu, and full espresso bar. I plan to drop by one morning to get my morning bzzzzzzzzzz on.
