Boston’s Best Tortas - Eater Boston

"For those who like a lot of sauce on sandwiches, the carne en chile colorado torta from Esquite Mexican Street Food is the essential torta, featuring chile colorado sauce and a house chipotle mayo. For even more sauce, get a side of the esquite Mexicano, which is corn off the cob with chipotle aioli, chile powder, and queso cotija." - Karen Wilber

The Boston Area’s Best Takeout and Delivery of 2021 - Eater Boston

"For some, going to the beach means getting a light meal. But I think you’re way better off with an overflowing torta from Esquite Mexican Street Food, which is less than a five-minute walk from Revere Beach — the perfect takeout option. Its brick and mortar has been open for almost a year now, which the family opened after their food cart business Eloti gained popularity over the years. I ordered the carne en chile colorado torta; the bread was ridiculously fresh, and everything inside the sandwich was perfection (braised beef with chile colorado sauce, refried beans, house chipotle aioli, queso Oaxaca, avocado, and pickled red onions). —Karen Wilber" - Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Terrence Doyle, Nathan Tavares, Karen Wilber

Google
Stayed overnight nearby and was surprised by how many great food spots were around. Came with Lynn and family—this place is in a nice little neighborhood with a few restaurants around. We had the quesadilla, El Paso taco, and Mexican street corn. Food was solid, fresh, and flavorful, though a bit pricey for a casual to-go place. There are stools along the front windows—room for four on each side, which was great for a quick sit-down. Service was excellent—super friendly and welcoming. Best thing we had? The tres leches cake—hands down. It was moist, rich, and gone fast. We saw it flying out the door and had to grab a slice before they ran out. Overall, I gave it a 4/5—not quite the best I’ve had (especially after some amazing corn in Ottawa), but definitely worth stopping in.

Google
The food is amazing Editing I ordered today guac and chips I was excited on the amount of what I thought was guac and the cups is a big bad taste good. My disappointment with the guac is that it seem like a guac salad. To much large cut up onion, overwhelming. I had to remove so much onion because it’s just too much. Not even 1 avocado chunk. And the bottom was filled with lettuce.

Google
Ordered the Enchiladas and they were ready pretty quick. Disappointed to say they aren’t very good. They have a weird woody sour aftertaste and I guess you could argue it was on purpose for flavoring the chicken but the chicken looks like it was just boiled and wasn’t even stewed in broth. Rice and Beans were pretty bland and I was given a small amount. Pico and Guac is pretty good and staff was very friendly, just not very authentic or flavorful mexican food. Also the guac was $4.50 and came in a super small container.

Google
A must try. It wasn't busy so my food came fast. My first taste of the lengua sent me to childhood memories . As for customer service I heard the employee say she would put an extra one in the next order for something not in the delivery, that must be a regular. Attentive service at 16:00.

Google
Ordered my food when it wasn’t really busy at all was looking forward to it as everything looked great. A whole hour & 15 min later I finally had gotten my food & was just told it was a mistake & that it go busy. The service was just horrendously slow. The food was ok the torts was the one thing I was really forward to but was super disappointed as there was so much fatty pieces of beef just wasn’t enjoyable. The tostada was so soggy that it fell apart as soon as I grabbed it. The fish tacos were pretty good but the rice was over cooked as there was hard pieces of rice mixed in there. Thie best item I would say was the birria tacos which was the only thing I really enjoyed, The elote was not bad either. Overall it wasn’t what I expected but at least the birria tacos were good.

Google
I placed an order online and thought I hit delivery but it was for pick up. When I called they told me the order was a pick up. The girl on the phone told me the manager was going to deliver the food himself. They had zero obligation to do that as it was my fault. Emiliano the manager delivered the food and he is quite possibly one of the nicest sweetest people I have ever met. I tried to give him money for the delivery and he wouldn't take it. He wanted to make sure his customers got their food. The food is delicious. Customer for life. Thank you guys so much!

Google
I'm not used to yellow sweet corn on esquites but this one was actually pretty tasty. I would get the esquite again.

Google
The fried fish tacos saved an otherwise horrible start to the week. Everything will be fine because these tacos exist(ed). Delicious food, great portions for a pretty great price considering it's greater Boston!

Yelp
Really good food, and excellent service. Had a mishap with our take out order tonight, but Abel (if I heard correctly) fixed the issue promptly. Went from a super upset customer to a definitely a returning one. For food, try their braised beef torta, so much juicy beef! Tastes very fresh and full of flavor. Fish tacos are a must have as well! Excellent portions and reasonable pricing, with plenty of street parking out front.

Yelp
Got 3 items: Tostada 1/5: it was not a tostada, it got here sooo soggy, I couldn't even pick it up, not good quality, I ate some of the chicken from the top and it was flavorful but more like a soggy taco Beef Burrito 2/5: the beef was burnt and dry, it was more american cheese than any rice so it felt like I was eating a rolled up quesadilla, lacked flavor to be honest Guacamole 3/5: great portion size, the chips were good, the guacamole itself was VERY watery but the flavor wasn't bad Also I asked for a Diet Coke and they gave me regular coke ( not a huge deal but still was annoyed) Overall will not be ordering from here again.

Yelp
Food: Everything was sooooo good. I will be DREAMING about those birria tacos and tres leches. First time trying birria tacos, and it definitely will not be my last. The tres leches cake was also to DIE for. Recommend getting appetizers to split as well (the 4 of us devoured them haha). Service: Food was so fast, even on a busy Saturday night! Ambiance: Such a cute store inside. Not much seating, but we sat by the bars which worked out fine. There is a good ambiance of Latin music inside, it's bright and colorful, even though it's small. Definitely recommend coming if you're ever in Revere Beach!!

Yelp
3.7 out of 5 This place has some seriously tempting food posts on social media and I've been wanting to try them for a while. Good Mexican food is hard to find in the Boston area, so hopes were high. Ordered delivery which was really pricey via ubereats (they're not part of Uber one). First the good, they have some tasty dishes, which carried the whole meal: Their namesake dish, esquite Mexicano was delicious. Super creamy, just enough tang, cheesy and addictive. It was my first time trying this dish so I was surprised they use canned/frozen corn. Horchata was delicious, nutty and refreshing, perfect amount of sweetness. The tres leches cake was phenomenal. Perfectly moist and sweet and tasted freshly made. The not good: The birria tacos were the best of the tacos I tried. Really delicious and the best birria I've had in the area. Unfortunately, it was a tiny portion for the price, $14 for 2 tacos and consume, that's $7 per taco and they're small. Also, they didn't have nearly enough cilantro and onion. The bad: The rice that came with the taco plate was undercooked to the point of being hard and crunchy, not pleasant at all. The carnitas tacos were dry and flavorless. None of the tacos had enough cilantro and onion. The mole chicken tamal was super dry and salty; a sad tamal. Lastly, the full menu is not available on ubereats.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. The menu could use more vegetarian options, but the bowl and the quesadilla were both tasty. We also enjoyed the tres leches cake.

Yelp
Food - 5/5 We got the esquite, al pastor tacos, carne asada tacos, birria tacos, and al pastor quesadillas. As a Californian, I've really missed good Mexican food, which is a big "missing" in Boston. I especially enjoyed the al pastor - great flavor and texture. Salsa is bomb too - nice and smokey! Ambiance - 4/5 The restaurant is small and doesn't have indoor seating. Definitely brings you home to California or any other place with Mexican food. Service - 5/5 Service is fast and staff is friendly and warm. They mainly speak Spanish, so be prepared to whip out your Spanish food lingo. Other notes: 1. There is paid street parking that's easily accessible right next to the restaurant. 2. The beach is half a block down if you want to find a place to eat.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon. Staff were super friendly from beginning to end with taking our order at the register and asking if we needed anything else. We tried their Chicken Tinga Tostada, Elote Mexicano and Braised beef quesadilla. The chicken was juicy with the sauce served over the fried tostada. The corn was slightly cheesy but could have benefited from a squeeze of lime overtop. The quesadilla had a wonderful grill on it and the meat was so flavorful. Overall, it's a beautiful small establishment with lots of mom and pap flare. Would love to come again and get another quesadilla or try one of their many other items.

Yelp
So I called to place an order and I guess that they had just stopped taking orders, but then the lady told me that because I was only ordering something small that she would squeeze me in so anyways I went inside the store like not even 10 minutes later, and my food was ready then I decided to grab a drink when I grabbed the drink and tried to open it the drinkfell on the floor and it went everywhere. The young lady working there was so nice. She cleaned up the drink even though I offered to and she even gave me a whole new drink for free. Their customer service is amazing. The food is amazing. I just want to say thank you for always consistently providing great food and customer service. I'll definitely be back. Also I live like 20 minutes away so when I got home, my food was still nice and hot and it tasted amazing. I got the fish tacos. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
My comfort food is the Pub Nachos - very good sharing size. My partner loves the quesadillas, although sometimes the meat can make it messy or harder to eat. We have regularly ordered takeout from here over the past year. It is a very cutely decorated and small storefront in Revere, steps away from the beach and T-stop. Parking is also fairly available all days around early evening, with meters directly in front of the store. The staff is very friendly and helpful, even when there are delays or concerns. There have been network connection issues in the past with online/mobile orders, and a few cases of the store being very smoky inside from poor ventilation.

Yelp
The best Mexican food in Boston! Cute little corner restaurant with an awesome friendly staff :)

Yelp
The food was excellent and came out super fast, the service was just lovely, and the vibes were impeccable. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food in an up and coming neighborhood. My only issue here is that the person behind the counter couldn't hear too well. I had to repeat my order 5 times. Must get the elope loco!
google avatar

Liz J.

Yelp
One of my favorite Mexican places for takeout. My fiancé discovered this place on door dash and we've been ordering from here ever since. The quesadillas are great, the esquite (essentially street corn) is unbelievable, and the birria tacos are very good! I haven't had anything I don't like. AND it's always so quick when we order.
google avatar

Ibrahim M.

Yelp
I go to this place a lot. Everything I've had so far, tastes amazing! My go-to here is Carne En Chile Colorado (Braised Beef), I always ask for extra spicy. It has consistently been good. There's definitely consistency in the taste and I've come to this place no less than 30 time since it's close to my work. Shrimp Burrito is another item that tastes great. I'm pretty good at taking picture of my food but as soon as the food comes I forget about it BECAUSE IT REALLY THAT GOOD! I definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Super delish tacos de lengua! Really dig the accompanying salsa, obviously made on site. The tortillas (2 per taco as it should be) were a bit off; they tasted a touch "chemically". The staff was very friendly and the service was very prompt. Limited seating but that's not a problem as it's a small establishment and people did not linger. I would happily dine here again.

Yelp
Tasty and fresh Mexican food near the beach! I love their esquite corn, which comes in a cup with tons of cheese and spices. I pair it with a plate of rice and beans and a fish taco, which was one of the best I've had in a while. Not cheap, but affordable - yet they are always out of something that I want, this time it was guacamole alas. As long as you're flexible, it's still delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this little spot on Shirley Ave in Revere, MA. Before this restaurant, I had never had Mexican Street Corn (esquite means Mexican Corn Salad). I never liked corn as a child, and I am from Iowa lol, but WOW, the way they prepare their corn on the cob with the different options of spices and cotija cheese.. a MUST try! For lunch, I love to run over to this spot and get the side of rice and beans. To me, this is an entire meal for only $5.00. The prices here are very reasonable, the food is delicious, good quality, and lots of variety - pork, chicken, fish tacos, roasted vegetables to list the main dish core ingredients then a huge variety of options and sides. The restaurant is clean, very well kept up and painted with amazing art on the walls. I think it's best to get it to go as there are only a few counter height seats along the window (3 or 4).
google avatar

Marissa R.

Yelp
We stopped by Esquite after a bike ride at Revere Beach. Prices are good, but food was subpar. The carne (beef) and pollo (chicken) tacos were bland, quesadilla was okay (but cheese wasn't fully melted), and rice was bland (with peas/corn mixed in, which isn't my preference). The salsa was not spicy at all, maybe mild. We didn't try their elotes (which they seem to be more well-known for), which is the only reason we would consider trying it again. Service was nice, as it's a take-out counter with minimal seating.

Yelp
Remember that Simpsons where Homer wanted to gain 100 pounds to qualify for disability? He should have just come here because all I want is to eat everything here all the time. If you liked the Elote cart they had before this (and still have) you will not be disappointed. Came here with my super hot and real vegetarian girlfriend and she loved her food.
google avatar

Yelp
The owner of my favorite food truck (Eloti roasted corn) opened this Mexican street food biz that I was dying to try. It was worth it! We had the pollo mole and cubana tortas and a slice of tres leches. All were the best that I've ever had! The mole was proper/authentic and the bits of chicken breast meat tender, it was a party in your mouth! The Cuban sandwich had fried ham, carnitas and chorizo, the sauce really pulled it together. Interestingly the bread used on each sandwich was different and it's texture matched its ingredients. The tres leches was moist and simply textbook fantastic. The owners were super nice and shared that it was grandma's mole recipe, etc. The store was very clean and the credit card monitor was wiped down after I used it-ie they are following Covid protocols. I can't wait to try more items!
google avatar

Lovelyn M.

Yelp
The vinaigrette on the Esquire salad was delicious, and I loved how it had nopales since I've never had it and always wanted to try. The chicken in the enchiladas was a little dry, so I really wish it had more mole sauce inside, but there was enough outside to scoop with every bite. The rice was perfectly cooked, but the black beans were too thick for my liking. Overall, I would order delivery from Esquite and will be sure to order elotes next time.
google avatar

Elysia S.

Yelp
We ordered delivery for my birthday dinner this week as we have an infant and weren't brave enough to venture out to eat. We ordered a little bit of everything thing and every single thing was absolutely amazing. The food was hot, carefully prepared and soooo filling. Food is super flavorful and tasty. We also ordered the Tres Leches cake and it was delightful. We will definitely be ordering again!
google avatar

Igor R.

Yelp
Ordered the weekend special tacos birrias, some al pastor tacos and an horchata. Although it's a bit expensive, the birrias broth was next level, - and was essentially a big carne stew of its own rather than just a dip. Lots of great flavor, everything was cooked perfectly. Really satisfying, I'll be looking forward to ordering from the rest of their menu soon.

Yelp
Local Mexican street food! Super cute Mexican restaurant with snacks and food to go or dine in but due to COVID there's limited seating
google avatar

Yelp
Really delicious food. Great for takeout. Parking is a bit tricky, it's on-street only. We were staying at a nearby hotel so I was able to walk. Food was ordered online through ToastTab, but you can also call ahead. Everything was ready on time and packaged up well. Chicken tinga burrito was the best my son said he ever had. We also had the cubana and the roasted vegetable burrito bowl. Burrito bowl was full of really fresh ingredients- lettuce, cheese, black beans and pico were all delicious. The roasted veggies were a nice mix of mushrooms, squash, broccoli and peppers. Prices were good too. No complaints!

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but I'm sad to say I'm disappointed. Let me start off by saying the place is super cute! The decor itself makes me want to stop & check this place out, because it's so colorful and inviting, so I decided to finally check it out. The thing that turned me off from ever going back was mainly the customer service. I was ready to order & the woman taking the orders at the front picked up a call and proceeded to take a phone order that turned out to be too long, because I was just about ready to turn around and leave the place, but by then a line of people had formed behind me and even with a line she continued on with the call for a few more minutes. Now keep in mind that this place is also small on the inside so trying to "social distance" is nearly impossible. Second I ordered a veggie bowl and it was just okay. The veggies didn't really have any flavor and I would've liked them to be a bit softer, but the rice was good. Other wise everything else in the bowl was basic. I don't know if I will be giving this place a second chance, but if I do, it won't be anytime soon!
google avatar

Bria H.

Yelp
The staff was friendly. The place was clean, and super cute! But the burrito was not very flavorful. I would definitely give it another shot and try to order something else, but just was not my favorite. They do have big portions for burritos which was nice. I loved the place overall just wish my food tasted better. Be careful of parking around the building as even if you are just waiting for your food for 5 minutes or less the city might try to tow your car, so be careful! (Not the restaurant but the city)
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Soooo tasty!!! I got the Cuban Torta and Elote. Just everything hit the spot. All of the elements of the sand which (there was a lot as there were three kinds of meat) were perfectly flavored and melded together soooo well! Beans were super flavorful too. Four kinds of protein if you count the beans:) and of course some nice fresh veggies and Avocado to keep it fresh. Crispy toasted goodness for the bread. Sauce helped tie it all together with smoky goodness:) overall review: Just Yum!

Manuela R.

Yelp
One star is too much I placed my order by Ubereats. I payed for tacos and I never got them, the burrito was the worst burrito I ever ate in my life, all of the food had a weird taste. I even choke with it because the burrito had little bones in it, poor packed too, no napkins, no silverware NOTHING!
google avatar

Yelp
My son loves this place it's close to his school and he picked up his delicious mini dinner here on grubHub online once he gets out from school. He's regular order is chicken quesadilla and esquite or elote loco or elote Mexicano he have his days lol Thanks Esquite!!!!
google avatar

Ngoc L.

Yelp
Cool spot with great staff Tamales are good my favorite is the chicken with mole sauce The corn is bomb.com I get the esquite Mexicano I sometimes get the tes leches it is so damn good I say sometimes because dang girl gonna watch the figure a little lol but seriously it's so good spoil yourself and get it I got the Jamaica drink one time im not going to lie but it taste so much like cranberry juice I was like ah what the heck , but that may just be my tastebuds still a good drink , I will try the hochata next time

Madison W.

Yelp
I ordered takeout here and ended up getting the birria quesadilla, it was good. Not great but good. I will definitely order again but try something different.

Yelp
Really like these guys in here. Really great food. Have been several times. Get the corn americano in the cup !!!!! Hell freakin ya. They got jarritos too. Uuuuuge jarritos guy . Would definitely return

Yelp
Amazing spot! I got the elote loco, the esquite Mexicano, the cubana torta, the quesadilla and the Jamaica agua Fresca and it was al SOOOO delicious. Mouth-watering delicious. The staff is so friendly, and the decor is beautiful. Definitely a hidden gem in Revere!
google avatar

Yelp
The decor inside is beautiful. The place looks very welcoming and the menu is extensive. Although the interior gets bonus points, the food on the other hand was not so great. I opted to try out the crema de elote (soup) and fish tacos which came with sides. Both were pretty disappointing to say the least. The crema de elote was pretty bland, it was like eating warm blended corn with some slices of poblano peppers and light cream. Very boring and not much seasoning for my taste. The fish tacos were also pretty sad and not much to them either. In the fish taco order you get two fish tacos in flour torillas, purple cabbage, fried slices of fish, and some mayo sauce. The batter the fish was covered in was pretty salty, and the sauce it had didn't really fit the fish taco. I wish they had some spicy salsa to go along with the tacos...or some pickles oniones on top...just cabbage and the non spicy mayo sauce was pretty...bleh. On the side was some mexican rice and black beans. Mexican rice was undercooked and flavorless. Beans tasted just like black beans, no real extra flavor added. Maybe they are accomodating the food palates of the American people. This didn't taste very Mexican to me - coming from a Mexican. I want to love this place. I will give it another shot and try something different next time. Hope the experience is a lot better, if not, I will be sad I was so excited when I heard about this place opening and now to be disappointed with the food [waaahhhh!] But give it a try. Maybe there will be something worth ordering again. Hope the owners don't take this wrong! I want to love this place! 2 stars for now. Please work on the fish tacos, sides(rice & beans) and soups. **no pics because I was too hungry and excited to try the food**

Yelp
Meat had absolutely no flavor. We ordered the beef tostada and birria tacos. The meat was soggy and unflavored. Yes I know birria tacos are meant to be soggy but if you've ever tried birria tacos in the west coast and have a more developed palate for actual flavor this place just isn't going to cut it. The consommé was more flavorful than the actual meat. The lettuce on the tostadas was wilted. Don't bother coming here, you aren't missing out. It's pricy and there are so many better options nearby. Check out Cactus Grill in East Boston. Or any other Mexican place in East Boston as a matter of fact.

Adreanna L.

Yelp
I ordered the fish tacos plate and the fish was raw, and translucent. The presentation was nice so I did not expect the preparation of the food to be lacking so badly. I would not order from here again.

Yelp
Great spot! We stopped in tonight at the last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. The place is bright and clean, the staff is friendly and fast and the food is really good. It was easy to park nearby. We had: Crema de Elote - the corn was fresh and the portion was large. A very nice cream soup - not too heavy. Carne en Chile Colorado Torta - like a delicious pot roast in a sandwich. The avocado and pickled onion brighten it up nicely. Pollo con Mole Torta - who could go wrong with chicken mole in a sandwich? Very yummy. The torta bread is just perfect to absorb all the juices. We're looking forward to trying other items soon! Should have taken a photo... next time.

Henna S.

Yelp
I heard about this place and have been wanting to go for a while. We finally got the chance to try it out and it did not disappoint! I got the Tamale con Mole and Esquite Mexicano, my husband got the Torta Carne en Chile Colorado, and we shared a Jamaica drink and Tres Leches for dessert. The Esquite Mexicano was exactly the taste of street corn that I've been craving, spot on. The tamale was moist (I hate dry tamales), the only thing I would ask for next time is salsa on the side. The torta was a good size! My husband was very pleasantly surprised and it filled him up. Jamaica was refreshing, served in a large cup. And the tres leches was excellent (husband's favorite dessert). We will definitely be coming back again! The owner was around and we got to chat with him. He was very friendly, kept asking us if he could get anything else for us and if the food was satisfactory or if we wanted something else. The other staff were equally attentive, offering prompt service and very happy to get us extra napkins, etc. Overall, we had a great experience and will be recommending to friends!

Yelp
Damn... I got really excited to eat here. And I thought maybe that the experience might end a streak of bad luck while trying new places to eat. I have never experienced a Cubano before, and I saw it on the menu so I had to have it. Since I read claims of authenticity I figured I wouldn't mess around with the ingredients by omitting them. It was okay.. I live a short distance from where they operate and by the time I sat down to eat the bread was completely soggy. I say to myself "What the hell is going on here!" The shredded lettuce was wilted and there was avacado and tomato on it too. I also tried a taco as well and the meat was pretty dry. I will try eating here again some day but I would have to ask them to leave all that crap out of the sandwich and maybe try the corn (What they were originally known for as a food truck) instead of the tacos. I hate giving these kinds of reviews but I feel forced since there were so many 5 star ratings. Stop making me do this!!!

Yelp
Had dinner here Thursday and Friday nights (my husband loves it). The food fantastic the staff is friendly and they want to do it right. The effort imparted is evident. We'll keep coming back (again and again and again).

Michelle C.

Yelp
The Conchita burrito arrived plump and juicy, loaded with shredded meat. I liked that the chefs pressed the burrito on the grill, so that the tortilla arrived a bit crispy on one side. Wonder why they grilled it on only one side. The burrito was wrapped in a paper-lined foil, so the wrapper didn't fall apart as I worked my way down the burrito. I'd give this burrito 5 stars if it were more flavorful. The meat lacked the tanginess of a traditional cochinita, and the burrito scarcely included the usual condiment of pickled onions, which the blackboard promises. The kitchen was not busy when I was there, so I doubt that hurried chefs just overlooked the onions. FYI, the prices were about $1 higher than stated on the blackboard or the website.

Yelp
Ohh man we had the tacos at the north shore rd location. Let me tell you A+ !!!! Birria tacos were the best I've ever had. So much taste! Fish tacos had crunch and the aioli was phenomenal. Stop what you are doing and go here now before it's so busy you can't.

Yelp
Awesome Mexican restaurant! I've visited it 2x and was super satisfied with the food! I had the Elote Loco, the Cubana torta, and their delicious agua de jamaica! All super tasty!

Yelp
Good Mexican food at a fair price. Staff is respectful and kind. Plenty of parking and easily accessible.

Yelp
Food is very flavorful, I ordered the veggie bowl. My first visit was amazing but find that sometimes the food is inconsistent. A good option for quick to-go food, the menu doesn't provide many options that are not meat.

Yelp
We stopped by around 7:30 pm and pretty much ordered one of everything. All of it was amazing. There is no need to describe it all, see for yourself. I will be back this weekend for sure!

Yelp
It was okay. California still has the best Mexican food. The meat was bland and tough.
