The 19 Best Restaurants in Lagos, Nigeria - Eater

"If you are keen on photography in Nigeria, updates on its very dramatic political scene, or just everyday Lagos banter, then you should spend some time at Madam Tique’s, a family-owned restaurant on the Lagos mainland that doubles as a hub for young photographers under the tutelage of ace photographer Uche James Iroha. Be sure to ask for a bowl of fish pepper soup (fresh fish cooked with peppers, onion, local spices, and scent leaves, with utazi leaves served with the broth) to wake up your palate, followed by a mixed platter of jollof (a one-pot rice dish cooked in richly spiced tomato sauce), fried rice, coleslaw, and well-barbecued chicken. The Essence is located at Ikeja. The space is really tiny and there is nothing much going on there. The toilet is also very tiny. Not picture worthy. Their customer service is poor. My friend was waiting for me and she was told it’s compulsory to make her order which she did. I got there and the waitress brought her food, we told her she should hold on so I can order my food so I and my friend could eat together, she said “No, it will get cold” she was trying to force my friend to start eating even when my order wasn’t ready and she wasn’t also ready to eat but had to make an order based on their rules. We insisted on them keeping it until mine was ready. Also, I don’t know why it’s normal for the workers to stand and listen to one’s conversation instead of doing other things and not actively paying attention to customers conversation. It felt very uncomfortable. They clean your table every minute. I understand waiting on a table but you don’t have to come take the tissues away and clean every minute. If my table is messy, I can signal for you to come. Customer service isn’t impressive. It’s very annoying because since nothing much is going on in the place, a good customer service experience should at least make up for the lapses. I had spaghetti and it was good however my strawberry daiquiri kept defrosting so fast. I don’t even understand. I don’t recommend going here if you really want to have a good fine dining experience but yours might be different if you are lucky.

Loved the waiters & waitresses. Very convenient and conducive environment for work meetings and brunches. Although I was accidentally overcharged and had to wait 3 weeks for a refund which threw me off. Asides that, good food & space! Budget for 2 people should be 30k +

It's an overall nice place for an intimate date if it's not fully packed because it's quite a small space. Food tastes really good especially the seafood pasta I just wish there were more than just 3 piece of prawns (the small size) in it. The staff are nice and welcoming so customer service is good. Budget for two should be from N25,000.

This was part of my saved list so it was finally good to visit📝. Had dinner as a trio. There was some road work ongoing which made driving in a bit tricky but glad it was being done👍🏽. Parking was a breeze. Loved how they've utilised the space and the vibe is very intimate on entry. Different lighting zones would match your mood. The music was just the right volume and vibe 🎧. I had the Virgin daiquiri and i enjoyed it! The tropical smoothie 🍹 and strawberry & banana smoothie were great as well. One of us had the hangla rice and plantain to go while we both had the mozzarella chicken burger and beef burger. They both came with French fries and we enjoyed it. Nothing like a really good messy burger 🍔. The food did not take longer than expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restroom was also kept clean which is something I always appreciate. Its a lovely place to visit on the mainland.

Located at Ikeja GRA, The grid has a nice ambiance and great staff. The food came quite late but was worth the wait eventually. The only thing I didn’t like was the cheesecake (which was the last available piece that day). Everything else was great, as evidenced by my plates🫠 Although space is limited and several customers had to leave as there was nowhere to seat. For lunch, a great time to arrive is 12 pm -1 pm on weekends.

First thing that stands out about this restaurant is how intimate it is. It’s tucked into a close in Ikeja, although still easily accessible. The interior of the restaurant is really chill. Soft music plays through the speaker, while the waiters get your order. Can’t say I particularly liked the food. Couldn’t decide on what to pick from the food menu. The drinks menu had good options. The turmeric rice I ended up ordering with chicken was a bit undone. Couldn’t really eat it. The chicken sauce was quite creamy. Had to request for a re-mix of my drink because it was too strong. The burger was nice, but the fries were too dry. The cheesecake was good. Had to signal the waiters to get attended to a few times. Service and quality of food might have been the way it was because it was a weekend.

The environment at Essence by the Grid was quite serene, allowing for enjoyable conversations without overly loud music. The service was efficient, with staff attending to us promptly. The food was delicious and cooked to our preference; just a heads-up, if you like your dishes extra spicy, be sure to communicate that when ordering. I also requested a birthday signature dessert for a friend, and it turned out beautifully. Overall, I would recommend this place for a pleasant dining experience.

Found this place via a TikTok review video, I was really skeptical cos as usual Lagos restaurant and disappointed but to my very fortunate surprise, I really really love this place. 1. Ambiance & Atmosphere: the place is not big but I love it, it is a small, cozy and intimate setting, perfect for date night or dining with your spouse/partner. Perfect lighting, perfect seats and table, the minimalist wall colors and aesthetic and low, slow background music, 10/10 2. Food: the food tastes so good. You know the usual good ambiance bad food combination for Lagos restaurant, this is not it at all. Food was on point, the drinks too 👍, cocktails etc. 3. Service and Cost: the service was great, very well behaved and friendly staff. The background music was so good I had to ask for the playlist and they were really friendly and shared. For the price I would say it's fair. It's your average quality restaurant price. The drinks are under N4000, the food price ranges from N4000 to N20000 plus, there is something for everyone.
