"This Rte. 133 icon was destroyed by a fire last spring, but it has since rebuilt and reopened in the same location. While its views are less breathtaking than those of the other Essex restaurants on this list, Essex Seafood’s cuisine more than makes up for it. Get a lobster, and get some fried clams. Essex Seafood is open for indoor dining, outdoor dining, and takeout, and it is not requiring its customers to wear masks." - Terrence Doyle

This was our first trip here, though we are very familiar with good sea food being MA natives. The fried clam plate was really good, the French fries were good but the onion rings were a bit lack luster. Definitely still really good food and a nice staff.

When you come to Essex seafood there is absolutely no doubt that you will leave full. The portion sizes are absolutely incredible which for most seafood places is hard to find. The batter was crispy and the fish was very tasty as well. Only complaint is that there was not a lot of salt on the food. But salt was provided at the table. I recommend making this trip if you are looking for a nice fried seafood meal.

I love their steamers and it was the first time I tried their clam chowder. All their food is the best! I love coming here after I hike with my dog friends. We love the outdoor seating so our dogs can be with us while we eat and not worry about the heat of the dogs in the cars. As I was watching my friends dog with mine, an employee was so generous to offer to go inside and pickup my order that was called as ready. I was very grateful for him to do such so I could stay with the dogs as I waited for my friend to come back from ordering her meal. Excellent staff. I love the setup here. This is my go to place for seafood after getting in a good hike.

Quality of ingredients, along with preparation are the issue. Unseasoned haddock, shrimp, clam strips and squid. This provincial style only works if the quality of seafood is up to par. The food isn’t bad, it’s just not that good. And with no customer service, it’s too expensive.

Great food and large portions served upscale cafeteria style. Order at the counter and they'll call you by number in a few minutes when it's ready. The portion of crispy fish in the haddock plate is nearly as large as the plate itself, topping off a mountain of delicious fries and onion rings. Lots of big shrimp in the shrimp plate too. Worth a drive from anywhere.

Outstanding seafood and kids meals were delicious. Baked haddock boat w/ onion rings were great. Both The fried calamari and clam chowder soup were the best I’ve ever had. The kids chicken fingers were great too, lightly battered and fried.

I ordered the Fisherman (Seafood) Plate. The price was a little hefty 38.99, no local clams due to Red Tide in the area, the ones served were from Maine and were delicious and safe to eat. The food was fantastic and well worth the price. There was so much food on this plate. It was loaded with clams, scallops, shrimp, haddock, fries and onion rings. Everything was perfectly cooked and was piping hot when we got it. I would suggest sharing a plate because I had a lot leftover. The staff was very nice and the building was very clean. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for some amazing New England Seafood but do not want to wait in the long lines of other more well known establishments. Essex Seafood taste better and is a more pleasant dining experience.
