"As far as Salzburg's foodies are concerned, the Kaiblinger family's elegant restaurant with its vibrant, colourful decor is as important a landmark as the Mönchsberg. Made using excellent produce, Andreas Kaiblinger's culinary creations are classical in their foundations and full of flavour. He sparingly incorporates Asian and Mediterranean seasonings and gives his dishes a certain individuality. He and his team work meticulously to create punchy cuisine. Your charming maître d', Andrea Kaiblinger, has some fascinating wine recommendations up her sleeve. Delightful rear courtyard terrace!" - Michelin Inspector

"Enjoy Creative Cuisine at Esszimmer While the name translates to the rather simple "dining room", the experience at Esszimmer is anything but. Since 2004 it has grown to become synonymous with fine cuisine in Salzburg and has been awarded three toques by Gault & Millau as well as one Michelin star. The interior design is modern yet cozy, with a fireplace, warm lighting, and a glass floor providing a glimpse into a water channel from the Middle Ages. Chef Andreas Kaiblinger's creative plates are visually delightful and scrumptious with bold yet recognizable flavors. Several tasting menus are offered with primarily Austrian and French influences (including excellent vegetarian options), though individual items can be ordered as well."

It's worth trying this Michelin 2025 restaurant if you are Salzburg. Nice food and quite place with great service.

Phenomenal food! Such great flavour and very inventive. The other reviews were right about how great this restaurant is. My husband and I both loved it. Every item of food was delightful. I had the vegetarian menu and he had the Esszimmer menu with the pigeon. (If you are wondering what to wear the atmosphere and guest attire are somewhat casual. Don't wear a t-shirt but most everyone wore sneakers)

I could not be more happy with our dining experience at Esszimmer! From the moment we walked in until when we left, the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. We enjoyed how they described each one of the seven courses along with suggesting wine pairings. It was a family affair there, the mother who ran the restaurant along with her daughter were both working there and it was so cute! Thank you for the amazing evening!

We had dinner here on our honeymoon in Salzburg and had an amazing experience! The restaurant is family operated and feels quaint and not stuffy. We did the Esszimmer tasting menu with wine pairing and every bite was incredible, presentation was spectatular. They will ask up top if you have a concert or anything you need to get to. If you say no, make sure you have time for a 3+ hour experience as there is some waiting between courses. We enjoyed the building anticipation and sipping our paired wine during that time! Highly recommend dinner here if you're in Salzburg.

Treated myself to a nice dinner alone with a book and I'm glad I did it here. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and comfortable with very friendly staff. The esszimmer tasting menu was superb and overall found the dishes incredibly delicate and not banging you over the head. I look forward to my next visit.

Google
Not worth going out of your way for, but if you are nearby in need of dinner its passable. The service was fine, but the dishes were very forgettable. Everything was cooked and served well but were extremely safe and did not give you anything worth remembering for. Furthermore it was very disappointing to be continuously given vegan dishes. I had to do a double take on whether I had booked a vegan restaurant by accident. While I can appreciate the effort in trying to turn vegetables into something interesting, please save it for the vegan menu, do not take up valuable courses away with them.

My visit to Esszimmer was fantastic. Easily the best meal I had on my first trip to Austria. The staff was courteous and attentive. The meal was unique and nicely paced. I enjoyed each of the 7 courses.

Lovely interior Excellent service Amazing food After reading about this restaurant in lonely planet we decided to book for our upcoming holiday and we were not disappointed. We chose the lunch menu with paired wines and were spoilt with a delicious welcome of beef tartare, followed by tuna three ways which was melt in your mouth perfection! Then a duck dish, again perfectly cooked and paired with delicious rich wine. Finishing with a Christmas flavoured dessert! Excellent service throughout the meal and a great experience.

Yelp
To eat well, I always disagree with critics who say that all restaurants should be fine dining. You can get a Michelin star if you serve the best hamburger in the world -- David Chang No Hamburgers served here. Just excellently prepared Austrian inspired, Michelin starred cuisine served with heart and soul. We ordered the Esszimmer tasting menu which was more seafood centric and came out with the amuse Boucher and another added course to 9 courses. Everything hit its mark and was just the loveliest. It's not a pretentious restaurant, I've had American Michelin starred restaurants like Manresa and Providence and those bored me and were disappointing. Everyone here was friendly even though my German is non existent. Photos don't do it justice. Highly recommended when in Salzburg.

Yelp
1* michelin establishment in salzburg ... Went in for lunch (reservation is required but can be done online pretty easily) For lunch they have the shorter 3-course menu for only 40ish euro if I remember correctly. Of course there are also amuse and petit four. I had Amuse and bread: amuse was pretty good, i got venison, fish and goat for amuse! And bread was pretty good ... 3 kinds on your table :) Starter: mackerel with goat cheese/yogurt based sauce. Served with mashed potato (of course, potato welcome to the region!) but the potato was much better than any mash potato i had in germany lol the starter was Super delicious and I really like it! Main: lamb ... I think the lamb was cooked well but a bit too salty for me :( Dessert : coconut sorbet / chocolate tart ... Every element was so well done and the sorbet was to die for. Chocolate tarte was a bit too dense and heavy for me :( Service was superb. Very attentive and super nice servers ;) when I expressed that i think the lamb was too salty, they actually offered to cook me a new one (but that is kind of expected from places of this caliber anyway) but yeah... Super good for value lunch with fine ingredients and i left full and happy :)

Yelp
HIGHLIGHTS: Halibut, pork cheek and belly, pumpkin dessert Pricing: €95/person, plus a €5 cover charge (really??) We went to Esszimmer for the relatively affordable 3-course lunch, but ended up doing the whole 5-course menu, simply because it sounded much more interesting. The restaurant was pretty empty at the time, and they were able to get us through all the courses pretty quickly (in about 75 minutes). Of all the Michelin restaurants I've been to, I would say that Esszimmer is one of the most creative in terms of flavors. Unfortunately, they don't always work well--one savory amuse bouche included peanut butter, which completely overwhelmed the other flavors, another (I believe it was the calf's liver) included popcorn, which masked the texture of the extremely tender liver. Service was OK--the waitress (who was also a hostess?) was very nice and attentive, but definitely could've done a better job of explaining the dishes and ingredients. Overall however, it was definitely worth it, and the good far outweighed the bad (not that anything was "bad", just "less good" than it could've been). It was a little pricey (like almost everything in Austria), and the cover charge seemed very odd, but if you're a foodie, Esszimmer is worth a visit.

Yelp
One star Guide Rouge! Very nice restaurant in a nice location where you can sit outdoor on a beautiful patio. We had the fish menu with very good creations by the chef. To that some Austrian white Chardonnay. Not my taste really so I continued with a glass of Côte du Rhone. As dessert some special creations with chocolate and cassis tart. Recommended!

Yelp
We thought Esszimmer was fantastic - the Michelin star is well-deserved. Especially good for vegetarians who cannot bear the sight of another schnitzel or sausage. (they have a full vegetarian tasting menu as a regular offering and not as a special request). The chef does some *amazing* things with fish too. (artic char two ways, smoked and steamed, was really extraordinary). Service was near flawless - cordial and accommodating. I thought it was weird to charge a 5€pp 'cover charge' (for the bread?) but that's a minor quibble.

Yelp
For our one night in Salzburg, my husband and I wanted to make sure we ate somewhere special. Esszimmer fit the bill! Any restaurant that provides a stool specifically for my purse is a winner in my book, but seriously - everything here was outstanding from food to service. When we arrived, we were seated promptly at a table decorated with gorgeous baby roses. We ordered one of the four tasting menus and were served our food at the perfect pace to really enjoy it without becoming bored between courses. They were willing to switch out courses and customize the menu, though we decided to stick to the courses as offered. The menu included venison, duck, goose liver, pigeon and fish and every bite was spectacular. In addition to our dessert course we were given a plate of cookies and chocolates, and on top of that they brought out a special birthday dessert for my husband with a candle. It was really perfect. The service was great - very attentive, not overbearing, totally willing and able to answer questions and offer opinions. The decor is a little on the bland side, but still classy and comfortable. Although Esszimmer is a little off the beaten path, I definitely recommend checking it out. It was pricey - with wine and gratuity the bill was about $500US - but it was worth it for such an enjoyable evening.

Yelp
Esszimmer is definitely one of the best restaurants in town. The menu offers lunch and dinner with 3 to 7 courses as well as a nice selection of wine and cheese. The food is modern fusion food, using local as well as exotic ingredients. The preparation is very complex and here you really get to try things you could/would never make at home by yourself. The service is very attentive and super friendly without Salzburg's typical snobish attitude. The place is very neat and tastefully decorated. It is food on the highest level i have tried so far in Salzburg and it's very worth the above average prices.

Yelp
