We went to Esszimmer for the relatively affordable 3-course lunch, but ended up doing the whole 5-course menu, simply because it sounded much more interesting.
The restaurant was pretty empty at the time, and they were able to get us through all the courses pretty quickly (in about 75 minutes).
Of all the Michelin restaurants I've been to, I would say that Esszimmer is one of the most creative in terms of flavors. Unfortunately, they don't always work well--one savory amuse bouche included peanut butter, which completely overwhelmed the other flavors, another (I believe it was the calf's liver) included popcorn, which masked the texture of the extremely tender liver.
Service was OK--the waitress (who was also a hostess?) was very nice and attentive, but definitely could've done a better job of explaining the dishes and ingredients.
Overall however, it was definitely worth it, and the good far outweighed the bad (not that anything was "bad", just "less good" than it could've been). It was a little pricey (like almost everything in Austria), and the cover charge seemed very odd, but if you're a foodie, Esszimmer is worth a visit.
