I'm so disappointed to have to leave a review like this because I love, LOVE, Estelle. But this location just disappoints time and time again. They just can't get it together.
Some highlights from our trip this morning:
1. One person working the long line of customers. She had two massive hickies on her neck (gross). What is this, 7th grade? The guy in front of us eventually gave up and left before ordering.
2. When we were next up, hickie-lady went over to the pastry case to help the customer before us, and a man came out of the back to open another register. He tried to call the people behind us forward instead, skipping us.
3. I ordered a breakfast sandwich for here plus a chocolate almond croissant to go (among a few other things). Despite being the only table in the café sitting down, and receiving a pager to notify us that our food was ready, the pager never went off. They didn't call out our order either. My wife had to walk up to the counter to find our food already sitting there. It was almost room temperature by the time I got to eat it.
4. The egg in my breakfast sandwich was overcooked. I've had the breakfast sandwiches multiple times from the original Estelle and the new location in Davis, and they've always been delightful with a perfectly runny yolk. I've honestly had better tasting eggs on a McMuffin than what they served today.
5. The final straw, and what pushed me to write this review, was that the chocolate almond croissant I ordered to go, the one I had been looking forward to all day, turned out to be a regular almond croissant. It may not seem like a big deal, but I really had my heart set on it. And when you're spending $7+ per pastry, they can at least be bothered to give you the right one.
I still believe Estelle has the best French pastries in Sacramento, and the other locations are great. But the DOCO location is just so poorly run. Be careful, you're rolling the dice at best with a visit there.
