The Best Mall Restaurants in the San Francisco-Bay Area | Eater SF

"There are few better options for freshly baked pastries in the greater Sacramento area than Estelle’s, which moved to its current location at Downtown Commons (or DoCo, as the locals call it) in 2018. The menu spans breakfast and lunch with sweet options ranging from French toast topped with bananas, caramel, and pecans to savory bites likes croque monsieur and fluffy vegetable quiche. Even if you’re not in the market for a full meal, swing through to pick up some post-shopping treats like a delicate danish, a box of assorted macarons, or a canelé (available on weekends only)." - Lauren Saria

First time here, wanted to try it out and I was not disappointed!😋 got the strawberry croissant and the regular croissant and oh they were so delicious! The strawberry one had a strawberry cream inside like a mousse like and it was not too sweet just perfect! I love it and we also got a cappuccino and the horchata latte and also very good! Not a very strong flavor of the horchata , it was just right 🥰 definitely recommend. Customer service was also good and the guys that makes the coffee speaks Spanish which is great!

Look at those pastries, should we go in? Yassss! After dinner mama needed a little sweet treat. The best customer service/patient man ever! MVP for all the recommendations. Never could go wrong with one of his reqs. Love love! Makes me feel like I'm in a Pâtisserie in France! Did I mention the balance of flavors! Yas yas yas! High recommend!

Stopped in to pick up Sunday brunch pastries for the family and got a good variety. All delicious, with my favorite being the Apricot Danish. What more do you need?!

I just wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the fantastic work you all do at K Street Estelle. Your customer service is truly superb and always stands out, making each visit a delightful experience. I can't help but crave some of my favorites from your menu all the time. The Cranberry & Pecan bread is simply irresistible, and your Sourdough bread is a classic that never disappoints. The Ciabatta club on Seeded bread is another top pick, and of course, your desserts are a treat that I can't get enough of. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for always providing such excellent service and delicious food! Laurie

Was pleasantly greeted before I was even through the front door - always a plus. Manny, Manager of this location was very helpful and extremely kind and helping me grab an assorted bunch of decadent pastries. My drink came out perfect as well. Area was festive, clean, and not a single inkling of dust or debris that most other cafes tend to have.

This bakery in Sacramento brought a sense of comfort I wasn’t expecting. The fresh bread had a soft, earthy aroma that reminded meof mornings long before my schedule became chaotic. Their pastries were balanced—not overly sweet, just heartfelt and warm. The staff offered genuine kindness, turning a simple purchase into a moment of real connection. A calm, uplifting stop.

After a 25-mile bike ride from Folsom, Estelle Bakery was the spot I chose to refuel. The food was delicious—every bite felt like a reward after that long ride and hit all the right notes. What also made the experience special was the vibe. The morning atmosphere at Estelle is inviting and relaxed, with a sense of warmth that makes you want to linger a little longer. It was the perfect spot to unwind and recharge. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Great bakery with a nice selection of pastries and pretty desserts. Loved all the items we tried that were recommended by the staff.

Yelp
Estelle's Bakery & Patisserie is more than just that, they also serve savory foods as well - sandwiches, salads, etc. They have a couple locations and this one is located across from the Golden 1 Center and next to Haagen Daaz / chipotle / Echo & Rig. You can enjoy your treats or foods on the go or there. This time around, I tried the almond croissant and the tart with fresh pears. Both delicious but that almond croissant really stood out to me (in a good way!). I'd come back again for that and to try their other items. Friendly staff and they validate parking for 2 hours, just be sure to ask for your receipt or let them know before paying that you also need parking validation.

Yelp
The pastries here are not only beautiful but they are delicious! I got a box of all their assorted croissants and was not disappointed by a single one!! The coffee was also great, we especially liked the milk foam on our lattes. It was the perfect texture. However, if you're stopping in for breakfast, I would skip the sandwiches and go straight for a pastry. The sandwiches have an uneven ratio of bread to the contents, and are overall just underwhelming in comparison to their other selections. The staff here is also WONDERFUL! The man who helped us was so kind and patient.

Yelp
Cute, esthetic, and pricey but delicious spot for brunch. The Korean Beef Tartine is a fusion of Korean and French profile, which is fitting for breakfast. It was delicious. I could've ate 1 whole tartine to myself. The large matcha latte was huge. It's not your traditional Japanese matcha latte where you can taste the bitterness of the matcha. It has a more mellow and sweet profile to it. Next time, I'd like to try their macarons. Most of it was sold already, which has to mean something. Service was good, nice workers. Food came out pretty quickly despite it being busy. It's pricey because it's right in front of the Golden 1 center. I do recommend stopping by if you're in the vicinity but I wouldn't go out of the way to eat here.

Yelp
It was my birthday weekend. We were walking around Doco. I had seen this bakery on my TikTok's and I really wanted to try them out so I was really shocked to see them at Doco I guess I didn't realize that there was a location there . I had to go inside and get some desserts. The inside looks very clean and organized. The man that helped us was really nice and attentive. I got 3 desserts and wow super delicious! They were at so good. I got a mandarin dessert that looked literally just like a mandarin super cute by the way . We also got a strawberry one which was super moist and tasty . To top it off we got a chocolate one that was also delicious. We enjoyed all three and we got coffee to go with it. This is definitely a must try spot for some very good pastries, and desserts. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Yelp
Love the aesthetics of this place. So pretty! Great for meeting friends after shopping and take some cute photos. My friend and I shared a strawberry cake, pretty good. And got their strawberry lychee spritzer which we thought was too sweet. The vibe is so nice tho. Maybe next time we will get something caffeinated and less sweet. Service friendly. Located near the Golden 1 Center.

Yelp
I went here today for a quick drink. The inside of the bakery is so cute and there's inside and outside seating. It was really busy today because it was after Sac States grad, but the servers handled it well and were very polite. I had a cinnamon chai latter with oat milk and it was perfect for this cold day. I also tried an assortment of their macarons. Surprisingly my least favorite was the pistachio, but it was still good. I really enjoyed the vanilla, raspberry, and espresso. I also think the macaroons were a great texture. I will definitely be going back. My sister and I are planning to visit the Arden location for their afternoon tea service! Will write a review for that location then.

Yelp
The cutest little bakery! The staff greeted us at the door which is refreshing because it like the youth doesn't have common customer service skills anymore, but Estelle's staff was not lacking! The shop is in the busy doco plaza and adds the cutest little chique dining experience. I had the ham and cheese croissant and a strawberry matcha latte. The croissant was a little on the crispy side but was a good buttery taste. I prefer something with more bread like consistency for a croissant (think fluffy) so 3/5. The matcha latte was so delicious and had dehydrated fruit in it ! 4/5! I plan on coming again to try their beautiful desserts.

Yelp
Estelle Bakery was located right by our hotel so we decided to give it a try for breakfast. We were blown away by it that we went back for seconds the next morning. We also go some stuff to go to bring home with us! Our favorite was far and away the strawberry croissant. Possibly the best pastry that I've ever had. An absolute must try! Everything was good though and really can't go wrong.

Yelp
I've recently been on a macaron baking kick and my husband figured this place would be a great spot to get some dessert. We came a little late in the morning but there was still a huge selection for the macarons to choose from. This was my main focus, lol. I chose flavors I never heard of or tried which were the Lavender Earl Grey, Cassis, and Espresso. All of these were delectable! I could definitely taste the floral notes within the Lavender Earl Grey, subtle yet notable. Cassis had a blackberry like flavor which I loved too. Espresso my husband ate. With how quickly he ate his I can attest this was a winner too. Haha. These were baked to perfection and not overly sweet. Upon entering the bakery does have plenty of seating indoors along with umbrella seating outdoors. Inside was very clean, bright, and inviting. Aside from their colorful macarons their other desserts were beautifully handcrafted. Too pretty to eat! However, I will be sure to return tasting their other offerings!

Yelp
All of the food looks incredible and instagramable. I saw kids begging their parents for sweets. The staff were kind, inviting us to look at all of their options, and didn't rush us. I'm glad we took a chance while walking by. The prosciutto and brie sandwich was delicious. The bread was soft, the flavors paired well together, and had just the right amount of Dijon mustard. The pear croissant was delicious and filling. My boyfriend really liked the chocolate croissant but I wasn't a fan of the chocolate inside. The croissant itself was really fluffy. I didn't like the Black Forest cherry dessert. It was way too sweet for me My boyfriend said we have to stop by again tomorrow to get another sandwich. Take that as your sign to get a sandwich here

Yelp
I've been a big fan of Estelle's since their first location on K Street. I love their unique French desserts from macarons to tarts to breakfast pastries to even coffee. We came in because my husband was craving a Ham and Cheese Croissant, but unfortunately they said there was an issue with their ovens or something so we settled for an Almond Chocolate Croissant and a slice of their Banana Bread. Both pastries were very soft, moist and delectable! The inside is smaller than their Arden location, but there are still some tables inside to relax and people watch. I love the clean, elegant and white modern interior and staff is always friendly and eager to assist. It's a great place for breakfast and lunch - their Tuna Croissant sandwich is one of my favorites! We'll be back next time we're visiting DOCO. Check them out!

Yelp
Best pastries in town. Friendly fast service. Elegant ambiance with dishes when dining in.

Yelp
Very cute little coffee shop. Staff was super friendly and welcoming and helped us with choosing out coffee. We only had togo coffee and a pastrie but it did not disappoint. I got the biscoff latte it was so delicious and not to sweet. My husband got a lavender iced latte it was very tasty as well. We shared a strawberry Croissant and oh my it was amazing! Not only did the glaze on it have a strawberry taste but it had strawberry jam inside along with cream. We can't wait to go back and try something else. Also if you park at the Doco mall parking you can use your receipt to get some money taken off your overall parking.

Yelp
Very rude owner/manager. Our order was wrong and the manager/owner (lady with short hair) made it seem like it was our fault. The took forever to correct it and provide the missing item, and when we checked in to see what was taking so long, she was super rude. Pastries are great, but the service spoiled the food.

Yelp
Saw an ad for this place (or the branch in Arden area) on Instagram and was surprised to find one in DoCo. Stopped by for a breakfast/brunch. I got the lemon tart, chocolate praline, and a Korean beef tartine. Paired with an Island Latte. The tartine has a crunchy sourdough base, with Korean beef, cucumbers, jalapeños, and a mayo-based sauce on top. Each bite has such a good blend of flavors! My only critique would be some of the beef pieces are pretty big so they're a little hard to chew / come off as a big piece so it pulls off some of the other toppings. Between the two pastries, the lemon tart I think had much richer/delicious flavoring, but I liked all the flavors blended into the chocolate praline. The island latte has a nice coconut / vanilla flavor, and is on the sweeter side. The interior decoration is a combo of white marble -esque with wood and flowers, which overall gives an elevated / classy vibe. Service was very quick and the staff answered my questions very thoroughly! What a nice place to stop by in the DoCo area!

Yelp
On Saturday we went to Estelle's for lunch. I got the tomato soup and French dip combo and my husband got the cheese croissant. The Tomato soup came in a cardboard bowl with a lid. It came with 3 small pieces of French bread. The bread was really soft. A soft crust. It was delicious. I liked dipping the French bread in the soup. The soup came hot, but not too hot, it was the perfect eating temperature. The French dip was on the perfect French bread. Not too hard and not too soft. It had a nice crust. It was a large sandwich then expected. The beef was very thinly sliced. For dessert on Sunday we had macaroons. My favorite flavor is Pistachio. It was the prefect firm outer and a soft center. It was so good. I wish I had another one or two. My husband got the raspberry. We've had lots of subpar macaroons from a various of places. It was refreshing to get really good ones on Sunday. They have a small dining area, I was afraid we wouldn't get a seat, but we did on both visits. They have a water station near the register. It is a really nice cafe.

B B.

Yelp
$6.50 for a "chocolate" croissant with barely a hint of chocolate? No thanks, I'll stick with La Bou. Not sure what the hype is with this overpriced bakery.
google avatar

George A.

Yelp
The most marvelous place to get your morning luxury drink. Mine is a banana white chocolate mocha...or coffee. It's very much the smell of banana throughout the drink. I bought a bear claw this time. The flake top is past delicious. It's very posh here.

Esme R.

Yelp
There was an extra ingredient inside (hair). This is not the first time, just disappointment.
google avatar

Mel S.

Yelp
Estelle is always a must stop whenever we're in Sacramento! The pastries are consistently incredible & the staff are all so kind! Our favorite is the strawberry croissant, but I genuinely have not tried anything from Estelle that I didn't love!
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
Try the almond croissant! YUMMMM! Definitely a great quality French bakery in the area! Will be back!
google avatar

Xia Wen G.

Yelp
I love Estelle! I don't usually come out to the Arden location because they have a closer one near me at Doco. I usually grab a fresh loaf and also a chocolate tart. I came for a work lunch at the Arden location and it was lovely. I got to try their biscoff latte and that was amazing. It wasn't too sweet but it was full of biscoff flavor. We also got to try some cute holiday desserts. The ornament and Christmas tree was super cute and delicious as well!

Yelp
I'm so disappointed to have to leave a review like this because I love, LOVE, Estelle. But this location just disappoints time and time again. They just can't get it together. Some highlights from our trip this morning: 1. One person working the long line of customers. She had two massive hickies on her neck (gross). What is this, 7th grade? The guy in front of us eventually gave up and left before ordering. 2. When we were next up, hickie-lady went over to the pastry case to help the customer before us, and a man came out of the back to open another register. He tried to call the people behind us forward instead, skipping us. 3. I ordered a breakfast sandwich for here plus a chocolate almond croissant to go (among a few other things). Despite being the only table in the café sitting down, and receiving a pager to notify us that our food was ready, the pager never went off. They didn't call out our order either. My wife had to walk up to the counter to find our food already sitting there. It was almost room temperature by the time I got to eat it. 4. The egg in my breakfast sandwich was overcooked. I've had the breakfast sandwiches multiple times from the original Estelle and the new location in Davis, and they've always been delightful with a perfectly runny yolk. I've honestly had better tasting eggs on a McMuffin than what they served today. 5. The final straw, and what pushed me to write this review, was that the chocolate almond croissant I ordered to go, the one I had been looking forward to all day, turned out to be a regular almond croissant. It may not seem like a big deal, but I really had my heart set on it. And when you're spending $7+ per pastry, they can at least be bothered to give you the right one. I still believe Estelle has the best French pastries in Sacramento, and the other locations are great. But the DOCO location is just so poorly run. Be careful, you're rolling the dice at best with a visit there.
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
We took home an assortment of pastries, which were delicious! And inside, we tried several desserts and coffee. Everything was delicious. We'll be back soon. The bakery is very cute, and the pastry displays are so beautiful to look at. Everyone was very friendly.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
So happy to see that Estelle Bakery has a location at DOCO! They always have a fantastic selection of bakery items and it's so hard to choose. We went with the Macarons and are so glad we did. They were crispy on the outside with a wonderful flavor in the middle. Great interior that is welcoming. Will definitely return next time. I'm in Sacramento.
google avatar

Thanh T.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick snack before a graduation. The Yuzu Spritz was refreshing and delicious! The pear croissant was good! Nice buttery flakey croissant! The scone was a pass. Service was friendly and quick! Convenient place for a quick bite if you're nearby!
google avatar

Ivy Jane A.

Yelp
This was our first time to enjoy peach croissant, strawberry cake and cheese danish pastry. We also ordered regular drip coffee which was good. The pastries were perfect. The texture of the croissant was very good. We all love the delicious desserts:l. The service was quick and easy. It was early in the morning so it was not that crowded. The music was okay and we like that it was not too noisy.

Brando O.

Yelp
The machta latte is good. Service is always the best and food is just as good. The Korean Beef Sandwich is smaller than I expected but filling and tasty.
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
Located in DOCO (the mall between J and L St in Sacramento), Estelle Bakery is seriously one of my favorite spots. There are actually two Estelle locations in Sacramento, and honestly, I don't get why this place isn't rated 5 stars. The quality is amazing, and the service is always top-notch. I usually come here to grab pastries for clients, and they make it super easy with online ordering if you need a bigger order. But if you can make it to the store around 7:30 or 8:00 AM, you've got a good shot at just walking in and picking up whatever they have fresh. Everything is ridiculously good, but my personal favorite is the cronut...it's so good. There are macarons too, and coffee and wine! Prices are on the higher side (a little over $5), but honestly, it's worth it. Heads up though: parking around DOCO is a bit tricky. You might have to find street parking or pay for a lot. I'm not from the area so I can't really give great parking advice, but just something to keep in mind!
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Cute clean bakery in DOCO. Love the shop's aesthetic too. Friendly service and ample seating. I love their strawberry cake, it's light and airy but not overly sweet. Their croixnut was also delicious, devoured within 10 minutes-perfect with coffee.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Estelle's never disappoints! Always delicious, pastries are not only tasty but beautifully prepared. Everything here is artwork. They're quick to serve either to go or in house.
google avatar

Alysia M.

Yelp
The food is amazing but what really made it special was Ross!! His customer service and overall care for our experience while in the store was amazing. He was very warm, welcoming set the tone for our whole lunch- especially not having such a good day when I got there. Will absolutely have to bring my friend and family back here because other places in sac, really do be slacking with the customer service- ( and he's funny too).
google avatar

Audrey K.

Yelp
Arrived on a Sunday Morning at about 7:15am to find out that they had a sign stating they would open at 7:30am. However, i saw the two employees continue to set up as the time started passing by. 7:45am is when they finally opened the doors. However from the 7:30am - 7:45am time frame, no one came to apologize or acknowledge the bundle of people waiting outside. I believe that is rude customer service. I typically go to the Arden location and never had an issue. This will be my first and last time at this location. I had planned to only go to this location because it fit into my tight schedule, but ended up being late anyways.
google avatar

Anu K.

Yelp
I wish there were more pastry options, not sure if I just went too late in the day but they seemed pretty empty. The place could be cleaner. The table we sat on the way out pastry looked half cleaned.
google avatar

Alicia J.

Yelp
I had strawberry French toast with mocha and was perfect. I will return but this time bring a friend

Nancy R.

Yelp
We stopped there after spending a night in downtown Sacramento. It was about 20 minutes before closing time but the staff there were extremely helpful and happy to help us! I don't remember his name but he looked "French" lol that's what he told us and he did look French! He was so helpful to us and he was joking around with us making us laugh! The dessert was amazing like always! I love this place

Angelina M.

Yelp
Th soup " tomato soup" is sooo god it better Panera bread but when I ate the soup today at Estelle I felt the warmth so it was so good I recommend this!!! The service was very nice I loved if

Victoria

Yelp
I used to love Estelle's for their creamy mousse like macaron fillings, but they recently changed it to a jelly/jam filling in a lot of my favorites and it isn't good It's way too overpowering in flavor and the texture is a throwoff from it's previous light/smooth texture. The vanilla flavor is unchanged so I recommend that one. Also recommend the iced strawberry matcha latte and caprese sandwich. I love Estelle's but the macaron change really threw me off as it is (or used to be) one of their best offerings in my opinion.
google avatar

Veronica P.

Yelp
Very cute cafe with clean seating and big windows. The staff was super sweet, cashier greeted me with a good morning that made me feel like we were old friends. I got the ginger spritzer and a fruit bowl. The fruit was surprisingly sweet and the drink was quite tasty.

Prachi R.

Yelp
got the Estelle ciabatta club and it was rlly delicious, they have nice bathrooms too and free wifi : ) as well as water cups
google avatar

Lydia P.

Yelp
I ordered a hot chocolate, chai, and bear claw it was all good. I also ordered the brioche breakfast sandwich, unfortunately the staff doesn't know how to follow directions. I request that there be no mayo and they still put mayo. I didn't notice it until after I arrived to my destination. Other than that it's a nice and clean space.

Yelp
A little quaint cafe in the Arden area that serves drinks and pastries. It's a French decor and sweets are big in this cafe with a nice selection to choose from. Service is friendly and adequate busyness here. You'll be able to get a seat if its not packed, but better for to-go orders. Always a treat when I'm in the area :)

Yelp
Bonjour! Pastry perfection! [Sacramento CA] Before we enter Golden 1 Center for a Kings game we stop by Estelle's for a sweet treat. Such a charming French bakery & pâtisserie located at the DoCo in Sacramento. The cakes and pastries are always so pretty. We purchased the Blueberry Muffin and the Coconut Pineapple Muffin. Hubby enjoyed the coconut muffin... i loved the plump, juicy blueberries on my blueberry muffin. It has a tender crumb and a sparkling sugar crust that practically begs for me to take a bite LoL! I've made it here twice already and I keep missing the pastries that I'd really like to try because by the time we get there they've already sold out. Service is fast. Nice, clean shop with seating both inside and outside. The French macarons are a great option for any occasion you may have. Instagram: @estellebakery Review #3396

Yelp
I have been coming here since I started working for the State. Last week I got 2 chocolate croissants and gave one to my coworker. I took one home and when my husband ate it, there is no chocolate inside . It's all hallow !! I asked my coworker and she said the same ! I went back few days later and told the cashier. She said ok !! That's all she said ! ?? I paid more for chocolate croissants than regular and she just stood there and said ok ? Is this how your treat your customers? No apology and nothing !!!? I was so shocked
google avatar

Amabel Y.

Yelp
What a gem! My first time trying this bakery and I'm impressed with the quality of the ingredients used and the flavor! I tried the raspberry rosé macaron and my friend ordered the chocolate cake. The macaron was not overly sweet. The creme fraiche was the perfect level of sweetness and balanced so well with the slight tartness of the raspberry. Highly recommend this one. I also ordered the strawberry and lychee sparkler. It was not made from artificial syrup, it tasted like fresh fruit juice with slight pulps in the drink. Will be returning to try the other pastries and cakes!
google avatar

Leann F.

Yelp
Must try their pastries, macarons, salads, and sandwiches and see their dessert collection. Wow!

Yelp
Perfect!! I love this place. The pastries are amazing and the people are so nice! It's very clean inside and well organized. Definitely recommend coming here

Yelp
This bakery in Sacramento met all operational expectations. Product freshness levels were consistent, crumb integrity remained stable across samples, and icing application exhibited uniform distribution. Customer interaction was functional and concise. Cleanliness metrics were satisfactory. A technically adequate, predictable bakery experience.
