Denver’s Best Pizza Restaurants | Eater Denver

"Denver doesn’t have anything quite like New England–style bar pizza, but this beloved Virginia Village fixture and its Park Hill sibling have carved out a similar niche as vital purveyors of the neighborhood pub pie. Despite their relatively thin, crispy crusts, they’re solidly built for soaking up any of the 20 or so craft beers on tap (with plenty more in bottles or cans), be it the Ya Mar with sausage, salami, ham, and two types of mozzarella or fancier fare like the Prince Caspian with gorgonzola, prosciutto, figs, caramelized onions, and arugula." - Paul Albani-Burgio

Best Kid-friendly Restaurants in Denver | Eater Denver

"This three-branch pizza pub is known for sophisticated toppings like figs, oyster mushrooms, and arugula pesto as well as its solid selection of craft beers. But it’s also appreciated for a kids’ menu of smaller, simpler pies — not least because they come free with the purchase of an adult meal on Tuesday nights, when a balloon twister makes the rounds just for fun (except at the Park Hill location, which offers the special on Mondays)." - Eater Staff

Such a great spot! Delicious food and great vibes. The only reason for taking a star away is that there aren’t so many gluten free options for brunch but I got chilaquiles without the chorizo and it did not disappoint 🫶 Also wonderful mimosa kits ✨ I would definitely go back

Google
Such a cute spot! The drinks were great and we loved the Roni Rolls! We can’t wait to come back for brunch! Ashton was great and super informative!

Really like this place!! Atmosphere was super great! Taste of each dish was exceptional! Thank you to the waitress that made our visit even more special! We ordered a drink that was not on the menu and she make it possible and it was perfect 🍹

Google
I love being able to get a fresh salad for a decent price, especially since they have half sizes too, and I like a little bit of this and that when I go out to eat. The pizza I had (Fee) was delicious, too.

We stumbled upon this place while out shopping and it was wonderful! Great beer selections and places for sports enthusiasts as well as Sunday brunchers! The pizza is amazing! We ordered the mushroom and cheese but all of the options looked delicious! We saw someone receive a giant carrot cake so make sure you come hungry.

This place was packed! The staff and food were both wonderful. the Ya Mar Pizza is fabulous!!

I love this place. Great service, great food, and reasonable prices. It can be a little loud, but the outdoor seating is usually a little quieter.

Google
My buddy took me here. This place is spacious and super open layout for a bar. Tons of selections for beers and wine. The pizza was amazing, and the wings super sauced up and crispy! The server we had was on top of it and very attentive and helpful! This is worth every penny! Can't wait to go back soon!

Yelp
Esters is a great spot to grab a quick lunch. We had limited time, but our server was efficient and took our order and got us our food in record time. We tried two pizza and they were delicious! The Catapult was fantastic! Esters homemade sausage and the caramelized onions made it one of the best sausage pizzas I've had. We also tried the Prince Caspian and the Gargonzola cheese, figs and prosciutto were the most amazing paring! The pizzas were also so perfectly cooked - a golden brown crust that was crunchy but still chewy!

Yelp
On the fence if I would recommend this place Pros: Good pizza Nice waiter(s) Cons: VERY loud environment; you can have difficulty hearing the person talk directly across from you! The entire venue is basically a sports bar (TV's everywhere) Pizza can be expensive, especially if you "build your own" even with limited ingredients ($25 per pizza) Tip amount defaults to 22% (no option of a smaller amount unless you want to push unfamiliar buttons) $12 frozen margarita in a small glass (tiss-tiss, basically a rip-off) Limited on-site parking, and nearby parking can be a challenge (neighborhood environment)

Yelp
Delicious pizza in a sport bar like atmosphere that's family friendly. 4.25 stars Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Cost to worth it rating: 3 Opentableable: no, no reservations taken Return worthiness: yes Highlights: - Pizza crust: crispy yet chewy just the right thickness. - Pizza size: 12 inches was perfect to share for 2 people - Bbq pork pizza: tangy thick bbq sauce covering tender pieces of pulled pork. - Chopped jalapeño for spice. 4.5 stars - Pepperoni rolls: crispy cheese on the bottom wrapped in the pizza dough. 4 stars - Ya Mar/Meat pizza: guys shared it and said it had good amount of meat (Salami, Ham, House Sausage,) and nice flavor. 4 stars - Cheese pizza: my very picky pizza connoisseur teen enjoyed it which is saying a lot. 4 stars - Not crowded on Sunday night - Drink options: beer, good wines by glass. and cocktails - Old fashioned: lots of ice cubes but solid traditional flavor - Has a kids menu: smaller 7 inch pizzas or a turkey sandwich Lowlights: - Didn't see fun ice cream flavors til we were on the way out Ate here during several visits to my niece and I'll be back.

Yelp
This is a big place ... but you still might have to wait! It's worth it! Great pizza! They have GF crust too! We heard they've been around awhile so they have a great following!

Yelp
This was absolutely amazing. Being a girl from the east coast, it's hard to find great pizza out here. But let me tell you!! Esters did a fantastic job with their pizza making. I got the mashed potato pizza and it was amazing, the pesto sauce on it complimented it more than you can imagine. One of my favorite parts was every pizza on the menu has a suggested wine pairing, and the wine that was suggested paired phenomenally. The server was amazing and the food was amazing and the scenery and music choice were amazing. I had an amazing experience.

Yelp
Loved this place for a long time. There isn't much around in this neighborhood and they finally got a cool hip restaurant. Pizza is awesome, beer list on point. Great wings and tvs for sports. They have a nice covered patio, they have it all! But seriously the pizza is really good and that's why you should come! Parking used to be a little more limited but they have opened some spots on the street and there are a lot more options.

Yelp
We have friends that live close to this Esters location so have been here a couple times as part of a large party. Nice and open bar and seating area with plenty of TV's for watching sports. Ordered their nachos and a couple pizzas that were prepared quickly and brought out to the table. I have to say that this place knows how to construct their nachos. Arriving in a circular shape maximizing the topping to chip ratio, the nachos look to be prepared from the bottom up eliminating the issues of dry chips that are usually found at the bottom of the pile seeing no love from the cheese or other toppings. Tried their prince capsian pizza this time and although not my favorite, was expertly crafted with well disbursed toppings and arugula salad. Solid restaurant with good service and food.

Yelp
Excellent pizza!!! I can't turn around anymore without tasting great pizza - the secrets of the perfect crust have been unleashed, and now it's all about what unique combo of great flavors to ride atop the perfect crust. Love the atmosphere here too, great and friendly service. My husband had the huevos rancheros and they were spot on.

Yelp
The pizzas are great! The restaurant is very welcoming and the staff is super friendly. There is a good beer and cocktail selection. The salads are very fresh and tasty as well. This was my first visit, but will be back for sure. Also, very family friendly for the kiddos

Yelp
Being from upstate New York and a huge Bills fan we were looking for an authentic Beef on Weck sandwich, unfortunately, Esters is a far cry from authentic- the bun was all wrong - no caraway seeds and lacked the course salt and the beef was way over cooked. Nothing like the real deal from Charlie the butcher, Andersons or even Wegmans pre-made Beef on Weck sandwiches. Other than that, the rest of the menu is spot on and delicious. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be back but will continue our search for the an authentic beef on Weck elsewhere.

Yelp
Let's be upfront about why I removed a star. I checked into this spot a week ago and alerted folx that the restaurant is not dog friendly. A parking spot outside for dogs is appreciated but it's still not dog friendly if you are looking to train your dog or expect an actual dog friendly location. Please also note that ALL places are required to be ADA compliant so "dog friendly" really does mean that dogs are allowed even when they're not service animals. Even after that the business has still not updated their information. Service really cannot make up for that inconvenience. It meant that I took up a spot until my dog settled and potentially meant that a server was taking care of an area that wasn't theirs; had it been a busier day I can see how other guests would've been inconvenienced and how the servers would be struggling. Giving my dog water when I already had a water bowl further showed how this location didn't really attend to the guests' actual needs; I would've preferred that they tailored their response to me, and all I wanted was accuracy on their yelp page. If you're looking for food, the food is great. Definitely try out whatever fruity pie is on their menu too! And I don't want to be entirely rude to a pizza spot that I love; the owner certainly seems to have kept delivery options updated! So please go visit a location most convenient to you! Or in a more walkable area. Oneida park doesn't allow dogs on their patio either but there are more spots to tie up dogs along the fence, and there are plenty of other shops in the area too.

Yelp
Great place to come for solid food and watch the game. Meet some friends here to watch the game and had a fun time. Service was great and all the food was good! Solid pizza! The place got packed because it was a Final Four game. I have to say the sound kind of gets trapped in there and couldn't hear the TVs or my friends down the table, but all is good as it was the environment expected going to watch the game.

Yelp
Came here with fellow Yelper Erin B last weekend for brunch and I'm so glad she brought me to this understated but incredible little spot. Esters may not look like much when you spot it in the little strip mall it calls home, but the ambiance inside is great. But what makes Esters a real standout is the food! The pretzel bites we ordered are apparently only available during football season, so if they're around when you are, GET THEM! I also loved the winter salad-- it was hearty and flavorful with great textures too. The pizza options all look so good, and the crust is amazing. I also ordered a kids size biscuit with mushroom gravy and loved that too! Next time, I'm looking forward to going for dinner and trying more varieties of pizzas.

Yelp
Ester's is our goto place for early dinner food. It's close and very reasonable. The waitstaff is friendly, professional and attentive without being obtrusive. We get a pizza and an appetizer. The food is very tasty and served in the right proportions. And it won't break the bank! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Esters is just crushing the upscale bar scene in Denver. This little gem hidden in a strip mall off South Holly, should a destination for all. Great cocktails and food. This occasion, we shared a 1/2 and 1/2 pizza with FEE (BBQ Sauce, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Fat Tire Braised Pork, Caramelized Onions, Jalapeños, Bacon, Cilantro) and the Ya Mar (Spicy Pizza Sauce, Shredded & Fresh Mozzarella, Salami, Ham, House Sausage, Oregano). There salads are fresh and tasty, this time I had the pear and arugula. I do miss there specialty wings (oh please bring back the blueberry habanero!)

Yelp
I didn't really know what to expect with this restraint, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ambience, service, and food! We used to live in Virginia Village and somehow entirely missed this restaurant until we moved away which is a bummer. We started with a caesar salad and then shared the Bliss pizza which was absolutely delicious!

Yelp
Solo mission. Yelp chose this place for me and I was not disappointed. First. I was lucky enough to find a parking spot. The restaurant is situated in a small shopping mall next to an apartment complex so parking is limited. I walked in and noticed a wait (Wednesday evening around 6:45pm). I wanted to grab a beer so I didn't mind sitting at the bar. The bartender was busy so I had to ask for a menu. No big deal! So far the reviews about parking and the place being packed with regulars are correct! I ordered a Tangerine Cream beer and the Of The Earth 12" pizza. The beer was light yet creamy. I ordered two! I knew I wasn't going to eat the whole pizza, so I ordered to-go. My pizza came out and I could smell the goodness! The box was cool and interactive. My favorite pizza is mushroom so I was excited to find a place that was loaded. It was delicious! The cheese was melty and the walnuts give a nice crunch and a surprising sweet yet not over powering taste to the pizza. The crust is perfect and crispy. I love oven fired pizza. The ambiance was chill. Great for a family dinner. Perfect for a date night. Nice place to enjoy a solo meal at the bar with lots of options for watching sports. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Love this place. It will forever be in our hearts. Three words Blueberry Habanero Wings. If you haven't tried them, you're missing out.
google avatar

Edie A.

Yelp
Stopped in for a drink but will definitely be back for the pizza as it smelled amazing. Busy for a Friday night with many eating and watching sports on the numerous tvs they have around the place. Staff was very accommodating - making sure every patron could watch the game they wanted. Bartenders were super friendly and the specialty cocktails were boozy. The Potenza Park was a spicy yet refreshing cocktail with Tanteo jalapeño tequila, lime, cucumber, and agave.

Yelp
Great beer selection. Great Caesar salad (and every other food item I've tried). You can even take home a baby growler. But the best? They told transphobes that their hate wasn't tolerated and to take that vitriol elsewhere. Truly, stand up people.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! Fun place. Close by. Good place to watch a game and have a beer. I like the catapult pizza and the salad are yummy!
google avatar

Savanna B.

Yelp
Oh man I wish Esters was closer to my house! I really enjoyed my beyond sausage and peppers sandwich last night and thought my son's (real) sausage and cheese kids pizza was yummy. My aunt said her pizza was good too. The Cesar salad my sandwich came with was pretty great too- they do salads or fruit instead of fries, which was initially disappointing but I got over it once I tried my yummy salad and left feeling healthy.

Yelp
Hey... water still taste very good which deserves another 5 star review. Got the make your own bloody mary bar. It was nicely set up and loaded up with all you can ask for including delicious bacon. Yummy . Our waiter was very attentive and our food arrived on very timely manner. My pizza was delicious and even better when served hot, only few feet away from the oven. Over all, very solid experience and definitely will be back soon!

Yelp
Picked this place on a whim and from online reviews. The entrance made it look like there would be a line but we got seated very quickly for two. There's a fancier dining area and then more of a sports bar back area which is nice for whichever vibe youre looking for. We got the burrata and it was delicious. The cocktails aren't anything special, definitely would go for their local brews instead. We got the vegan pizza called bliss and added bacon and pineapple and it was sooo good. def a great place to chill and enjoy great pizza. The thin crackery crust was so delicious. Servers were also quick and helpful. Super chill experience.

Yelp
We had the Rife pizza and it was amazing it was full of flavor. Place was packed and the wait time was pretty minimal.

Yelp
Great food great atmosphere! Loved the pizza & salad lunch special. Tried some of their homemade ice cream & it's excellent! Parking a bit limited but was able to find a spot on the street
google avatar

Yelp
Esters WINS AGAIN! I took a video of the steam coming off of this French dip calzone. When toppings fall out upon the food coming to the table, it's solid. I got the French dip calzone- added pepperoni and jalapeño. A-MAZE-BALLS!
google avatar

Yelp
So far it seems like you can't go wrong with Ester's. Everything I've tried is either really good or just plain amazing. Today I decided on their seasonal pizzas (1/2 and 1/2 for the win!). Since spring is in the air, half of that pizza was the O'Sullivan, which was a Reuben inspired pizza. I like a good Reuben, but the thought of that on a pizza just didn't do anything for me. But that thought is now far in the past. This was probably one of the best pizzas I've ever tried. The crust, albeit slightly burnt, was both crispy and chewy. The flavors of the corned beef, sauerkraut, and Reuben sauce were perfectly balanced so that no one flavor overpowered another. It was so good, that we honestly might have a problem here. I want more and I want it today. Bravo Ester's! I selected the Gotta Jibboo as my second half, and that had a cilantro pesto, adobo chicken, poblano peppers, and chipotle cream. Another excellent choice that possessed a slight heat, but in the best of ways. Finally, sometimes one just has to adult and eat their greens. However, my choice to adult was actually a tasty experience. I ordered a half order of the Winter Kale Salad, and the serving size was quite impressive. Now I'm normally a savory type of gal, but this salad was on point! It had texture from the crunchy almonds, fresh apples, and pops of pomegranate seeds; the pomegranate Vinaigrette was sweet and tangy, but not overpowering, and the Gorgonzola just brought it all together. This salad was great! Oh, and service was great too. I am so happy that Ester's is close to home. What a win!

Yelp
My coworker and I came in here on a Wednesday evening around 5:30pm. There was already a 50 minute wait, so we went and grabbed a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. I'm not sure if it's always this busy, or if it was due to a private party going on. We were finally seated out on the outdoor patio - which was much quieter than the inside and it was enclosed and heated! For food we decided to split the Prince Caspian pizza and I also ordered myself a half brussel sprout salad. The salad on the menu sounded appetizing, but I wasn't very impressed by it when it came out. The portion was huge though! We both really enjoyed the pizza and they did not skim on the prosciutto!
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
First time trying Esters. Were seated quickly despite being a busy Saturday at lunch. Live music playing in front area was a little loud but a nice touch. Ordered half salads for appetizers and they were very good. Wife ordered gluten free pepperoni pizza and unfortunately this was one of the worst GF crusts we've come across. Don't waste your time if you're looking for GF pizza. I ordered a regular pizza with ham and prosciutto and sausage and it was excellent. I've tried many places in Colorado looking for good pizza with mostly poor results. Esters might now be on top of the list. Crust was perfect and flavor was abundant. I would highly recommend if you're looking for good pizza and a fun environment. They have a couple bar areas as well with televisions. If we are in the area we will be back. 8.5/10.

Yelp
10/10!! So lucky to live near this neighbor spot. Fantastic food (bbq wings are delish), incredible service and great vibes for NFL season. Really enjoyed coming here and sitting at the bar with my bf for the Broncos game the other night.
google avatar

Artsy P.

Yelp
There was great service and we enjoyed the casual outdoor ambiance dining under the canopy. We split most of the meal between two people. We loved the vegan banh mi on gluten free bread and the salad was quite filling. We got one pizza with an olive oil base and one with the spicy tomato sauce and built our own pizzas with various vegetables. We intentionally left some for leftovers. Thanks. Be safe and well.

Yelp
4.5 stars. I've heard such good things about Esters, and I'm glad I made time to visit while I was in the neighborhood. Even though they seem to be known for pizza, I was craving buffalo wings that day. Parked in the lot outside and sat at the bar, ordering my food and a beer. Decent selection. The service was alright. There was a lot going on this weekday afternoon between regulars coming through and delivery orders needing to be fulfilled. The wings themselves were fantastic. I'd want to come again and actually try their pizza!!

Mary Lou S.

Yelp
I adore Ester's! Very good specialty pizza and craft beers. A lovely place to take the family. Service is always good.
google avatar

Yelp
We love Esters! Super fun neighborhood bar that serves delicious food! We'd occasionally come in for a beer and pizza. Service is always on point
google avatar

Sam B.

Yelp
A classic pizza(and more!) spot in Virginia Village. Count on a full scratch kitchen, plenty of items(including GF and DF) to choose from, and a great selection of beers. Fun vibe with a small outdoor patio. Service is great and take out orders are super easy. My favorites are the Fee and any salad they made. Parking can be limited, especially around the dinner hour. Other than that, count on Esters for a great family meal.
google avatar

Paige B.

Yelp
The food/pizza is so freaking delicious it makes your mouth water. There is no other pizza place that beats Esters. If you want pizza your going to the right place.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Although it was insanely busy, we got three different pizzas and all were amazing. They checked in as best as they could but we never felt ignored. Parking was difficult to find, but because of how good it was, I get it and it was worth the search.
google avatar

Shin M.

Yelp
The name has changed since I was last here. It used to be called esters neighborhood pub. Same interior, lots of covered patio seating, main room seating and side room seating with sports on TVs. We got two vegetarian pizzas. One was a white mushroom pizza which was a four star. It was tasty esp with the truffle oil. The other was a red sauce with a ton of veggies and fake meat. It was very bland and I would not get that again. In addition to red pepper flakes, they had a spicy green pepper flake topping which was a nice add on.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Great brunch spot and Blood Mary bar is back! Great pizzas and a comfortable environment. Awesome neighborhood spot! We were seated and I looked over and saw the Bloody Mary bar. It was a no brainer that I was getting one. The bar was fully loaded with every accoutrement you could imagine and a massive selection of hot sauces (snagged some for our pizza too). This was practically an appetizer! My wife and I ordered a mushroom pizza, Of the Earth, that was excellent (forgot to take a pic of that). We have been here a few times now, but the Bloody bar was not present in the past due to COVID. I'm glad it's back! This place is really relaxed and we've always had good service. They also have a great beer selection and ample seating space, including a patio. Have a Bloody buddy!
google avatar

Bailie Z.

Yelp
Great dinner place! Our server was great & super kind. The vibe is always on point and is a great place to watch sports. The winter kale salad was also delicious.
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
This is my go to spot in the neighborhood. I do love the seasonal rotating menu, but wish the spring salads were all year! The green goddess and strawberry are to die for. Also can't get enough of the bliss pizza. So happy to have this spot nearby.
google avatar

Chad G.

Yelp
Great place, their wells are great, go for happy hour! Classy and social, great service and ambience.
google avatar

Abby G.

Yelp
A great family location. The pizza is very good and our kids love the hummus and the meatballs as appetizers. They have high chairs for the bar area and the service is kind and helpful! It's very busy so sometimes hard to get a seat or parking space! This is a great neighborhood spot and we look forward to coming back
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
I have passed this place countless times and never stopped in and man was I missing out. The parking is a hot mess but that is where my complaints stop. Maybe it is because I went in with no clue what Esters offered or maybe it is just because it was just really good, regardless, if you want a good quality meal I cannot recommend this place enough! I stopped by on Wednesday which is half off wine and you can take the bottle home if you don't finish it, so huge win in my book! The salad I ordered was a great salad, like truly impressed with how robust it was. Not just some sad lettuce on a plate with a few cherry tomatoes but a honest to goodness quality salad. And because life is all about balance we also go the mushroom pizza which was so good I have thought about it no less than 5 times since I had it and it is the thing that will make me go back. There are so many amazing looking pizzas on the menu I cannot wait to tick them off one by one. We finished off with the red velvet cake and the frosting was really good but the cake itself fell a little flat for me, I would pass on this and try something else.

Yelp
We always look for local businesses to promote and were not disappointed with Esters Virginia Village. We ordered a custom pizza of black olives, mushrooms, and salami. While waiting we ordered the Colorado Pake Ale beer, which is a light beer that was an excellent choice to go with our pizza. The pizza arrived fresh out of the oven and the aroma was outstanding. A thin crust and the first bite was over the top. The homemade pizza sauce had the right amount of spices that enhanced the sauce. The mushrooms were thick slices and mounds of black olives. The salami was nice think slices that took the pizza over the top. And for dessert, we order the Bonnie Brea Chocolate Marble Ice Cream. Bonnie Brea Ice Cream has been in Denver, for over 25 years and if you are looking for an outstanding homemade ice cream to cool off from the summer heat, this is the place. The service was excellent and the friendly servers. If you want a true homemade pizza, friendly service and to promote a local business, then head to Esters Virginia Village. The parking can be a little difficult but be patient. There is parking on the side street.

Yelp
Service was great and the food was good! The patio was shady and a nice way to enjoy dinner. Our server was also very accommodating for the food allergies a member of our party has and made sure to check all the ingredients in items to be sure. We got the Fat Tire Nachos and the Bliss pizza. I could just eat the nachos they were so good.
google avatar

Pete R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the atmosphere at Esters! Feels great to be around people enjoying games, food & drinks! F.A.S.T. Review Food: we ordered the nachos and a Mikey's pizza. The nachos are not your typical nachos, they are a bit sweet, but really tasty. The pizza is phenomenal! Atmosphere: tons of TV's showing soccer, basketball, and an old Pro Football game. Great to see people cheering the games! Service: it was super busy for a Friday, but we sat inside in about 15 minutes. The hostesses were really nice and our waitress Rachel was great. Drinks & food came out fast. Tips: pizza and try their spicy pepper if you like hot!

Yelp
Some of the best pizza in the area. The East side of Denver is pretty limited on good pizza options. Blue Pan and Walter 303 are the go to. But now I can add Ester's Virginia Village to that list! I had their Of The Earth Pizza +sausage and it was fantastic. Crispy flavorful crust, great flavor from the mushroom and walnut combo, and the sausage added a great meaty and salty flavor to the mix. The Fat Tire Nachos were a great deal at $15. They came with what seemed like an entire bag of chips. Good beer on tap selection too.
