We are foodies and when we travel we always include one or more good restaurants in our trips. This restaurant was supposed to be the culinary highlight of a short German trip. And it looked like that was going to materialise. The dishes were excellent and refreshing and refined, the wine pairing pretty good and the interaction with the waiter courteous and warm at the same time. Until the owner came in... Out of curiosity and unjudgemental we asked if the cook was actually Spanish. He felt apparently offended and aggressively replied if we would ask the same question in an Italian restaurant and from there the conversation went downhill. We told this to our friendly waiter and he felt uncomfortable. He tried to ease the situation by talking to the owner which apparently upset him even more... After settling the bill of almost 500 euros for the 2 of us, we were almost kicked out. Everyone can have a bad day or a misunderstanding but I believe that if you are the owner of a hospitality business, regardless of how good your product is, courteous behaviour towards guest can make or break the experience and in our case it was broken unfortunately...
