Eclectic, 1960s-1970s retro decor including high back wicker chairs, orange velvet couches, colored bottles, abstract art, mosaic decorated fountain, string art, abstract art, decoupage collage chairs - all in an open space with hanging plants, patio seating perfect for people watching and enjoying a meal with family and friends.
Estrella is dedicated to the spirit of Joni Mitchell and other Ladies Of The Canyon - female entertainers who lived in Laurel Canyon during late 1960s and early 1970s.
The menu changes here daily, so you never know what your choices will be until you arrive. However, the weekend brunch is pretty much the same, including cheeseboards, salads, avocado toast, salmon bagels, quiche, French Toast - you can even get steak and eggs if you fancy that. My favorite brunch item is an on and off season dish called "The Rolling Stone" - bacon wrapped avocado with poached egg, queso fresco and heirloom tomatoes. Scrumptious!
I was very pleased with the food, service, friendly staff and the environment. The egg in The Rolling Stone was poached perfectly, each bite a wonderful taste sensation.
I had the opportunity to visit the Speak Easy room in the back of the restaurant, which is a meeting room/cocktail lounge with orange velvet couches, mosaic rectangle tables, abstract art suspended lighting, lyric and other books and patio with fireplaces and heat lamps, all decorated in 1970s style. The Speak Easy is available to rent for private parties, just check their website for details.
You should be advised of several things before you visit.
1. As of July 2018, the restaurant is under new management, so if you visited recently and were not pleased with one thing or another, you may want to try it again!
2, Valet Parking. Open Table states that on weekends, valet parking is $4 or $6. This is not the case, the valet service charges full rate 7 days per week. Because of the misinformation, the Manager comped one of the Endless Mimosas. There is street parking in the area if you do not wish to pay for valet.
3. This restaurant adheres to West Hollywood restaurant practice of adding an additional 3% gratuity which is used to help pay for staff health insurance. It is not mandatory, so if you do not wish to pay it, you may have it taken off your bill.
I had a wonderful experience here. I will return again to not only enjoy The Rolling Stone, but to also enjoy the afternoon at a patio table to people watch. I truly felt taken back in time to the era and the women the restaurant intended to honor.
