The Best Savannah, Georgia, Restaurants | Eater Carolinas

"The E-Tang empire is expanding. David Chen opened the first location on East Oglethorpe Avenue in 2021, and news spread fast that Savannah finally had hand-folded soup dumplings. Now, he’s preparing to open a new dim sum spot under the same name on Whitaker Street. Pay the original a visit as you wait for your chance to spin the lazy Susan and chopstick siu miu, chicken feet, and cheung fun." - Kiki Dy

It was my second time dining here. The food was impressively tasty and the portions were large. Thai tea was delicious and the half&half iced tea is not too sweet. Highly recommend you to dining here, don't miss ordering these below - House special cold noodles. Sauce and noodles are so good - Beijing ducks were fried in right way, crispy and served with sweet sauce - Braised pork belly with buns. Must try! Don’t care about weights after we take the foods 😆 Yum yum * one public parking lots opposite of restaurant.

Google
Swing by for some dim sum. It's not a huge selection but you can order the favorites all day long. We ordered several dishes to share, including the shiu mai, gyoza, shrimp noodle, chicken feet, pork belly buns, and bok choy. It was very good. Staff was nice and respectful. The restaurant is modern, nicely decorated and was very clean.

We were served SPOILED shrimp last night, on 11/10. Put a shrimp rice noodle roll in my mouth, took one chew, and had to spit it out. Fishy, funky, rotten tasting. They reeked, I don’t understand how they were served to begin with. We complained to the waitress, who took it off the bill, but didn’t apologize. We ordered two shrimp dishes and did not even try the second, for fear of it also being spoiled. She would not refund the second shrimp dish. The scallion pancake was incredibly greasy, and just tasted like dirty oil. The jasmine tea was so weak it was basically water. I was given a dirty spoon (visible debris and a hair - I wish I had gotten a picture). We didn’t even mention these issues to the staff, we only brought the dangerous rotten shrimp to their attention and they did not care or apologize. Strangely, the spring rolls were fantastic. We started off with those and were so excited to try the rest of our food, only to be highly disappointed. Complete waste of $30. We had to go spend more money elsewhere to get edible food after.

Google
Surprised to find a dim sum place in Savannah. It’s a small yet decently sized restaurant in the downtown area. Parking is terrible but there’s a public parking garage across the street. The dim sum menu is limited but good enough. All the dishes are cooked to order. The waiter said that it’s all frozen so not fresh. The restaurant is northern Chinese style Not Southern style where dim sum comes from. The food was nice to sample & OK but very small portions while prices were average but is really more expensive because of the small portion sizes typically found in a dim sum restaurant. It has a regular menu for those not interested in dim sum. Etang has 3 different restaurants but same chain.. regular, dim sum & noodles. The general surrounding Chinese population are students from SCAD who are from northern mainland Mandarin China. That helps explain the northern Chinese food focus of the restaurants & its Mandarin staffers. The regular menu items are authentic Chinese dishes, not the typical coast food from Chinese takeout places, & can be pricey, depending on the dish ordered.

We were taking our daughter to her fall semester program in Savannah and ran into this gem. The small portion plates (Cha-Shu Bun and the Steam Pork Dumplings) were delicious. The main plates (Korean Beef and Pork Fried Rice) were very tasty but not too rich. Great price and food quality.

Google
It was a pleasant experience to find some Cantonese eating locally. In addition to the American Chinese food, there were some unique dishes for the foreigners away from home. Granted it's not a fair comparison to options overseas with a high competitive environment, but this place offers solid style dishes.

Google
My daughter took me to Etang Dim Sum on a recent visit to Savannah. The main Etang restaurant is her favorite restaurant so thought we would try the Dim Sum location. The food was delicious, hot and fresh! We had lighter options since we were doing a lot of walking in the heat. The pork soup dumplings, edamame, and pan fired dumplings were delicious. The server was attentive to our needs and very courteous. Service was very fast for a sit down restaurant. I would highly recommend and will visit again.

Google
Food and service were both amazing! We went twice within our 5 day stay in Savannah. The pork soup dumplings are to die for! My husband also enjoyed the hot oil wontons. The barbecue pork buns melt in your mouth. And my husband also really enjoyed the sake! 10/10 experience. Will definitely be back! So so good! Must try!

Yelp
Great food!! As good as anywhere in the Southeast in my opinion and rivals some NYC and San Francisco restaurants. Service was awesome too! Felix greeted me with a handshake and thanked me for coming in to try the restaurant. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
As locals we are so exited for this new location. We came to eat during Hurricane Helene and our power was out for days, our service was amazing, charged our phones and let us relax in the ac for a bit without rushing us. Besides being caring she was attentive and friendly which complimented the amazing food. Soup dumplings are the best in the city, along with the siu mai , the egg drop soup was also warm and tasty. the menu has an huge selection, if we weren't full we would've ordered the peaking duck too which we hear is amazing. The best dim sum menu. Now that we've been to both locations we may have a new favorite spot. The new location is clean, and perfect for a date night or even dinner with family and friends. If we were a bigger group we would probably go to the other location for the lazy Susan on the table for better sharing.

Yelp
We took to go, could not comment on service. The beef lo mein was a little heavy in the ginger and soy sauce, very light on the beef, sad. Would skip that next time but the limited dim sum menu was pretty good. Wish they had a sticky rice chicken. I've not seen the green tea red bean buns anywhere else, that was very tasty and different. The filling tasted like a smooth Ube paste.

Yelp
Another branch of the Etang family. The original restaurant is on Oglethorpe. This one is more heavily focused on dim sum. Usual dishes are still good, the stir fry and XLBs etc. Parking, which is usually an issue with restaurants downtown are ok here in that Whitaker parking structure is right next door. Restaurant doesn't validate. Kung fu tea is around the corner.

Yelp
Great customer service! Beef & broccoli was the best, beef was very tender. Next time I'm in Savannah I'm definitely coming back!

Yelp
Great service and excellent soup dumplings. I am a local, so venturing to Whitaker Street is more than an notion. But if you're already down there, duck into this little spot. Dim sum has been a rarity and Savannah. If they ever decide to do traditional dim sum brunch with the rolling carts full of little bites, I will be there every weekend.

Yelp
Wow not one item was bad everything was amazing the pork belly was my fave entree every dumpling was amazing my fave was the hot oil dumplings they don't have a liquor license yet but that didn't take away from the meal at all

Yelp
Once again, the E Tang group dominates Chinese food in Savannah! I've now been twice in 3 days and both times my meal was exceptional and bursting with flavor. What did I order you ask? Garlic cucumber, colorful dumplings, twice cooked fish, garlic snow pea leaves, eggplant in garlic sauce, scallion pancakes, and hot and sour soup. Incredible meal, super friendly staff, really beautiful new space, and a fabulous experience overall. Hats off to David and the team for another culinary triumph! See you tomorrow!

Yelp
Only good things to say about this spot. As someone from Atlanta, I'm so happy to have a proper dim sum spot downtown! Service was fast and delightful - everything came out in a timely manner so our table didn't get too crowded. Can't wait to come back!! This is a must have for foodies in Savannah!!

Yelp
Service was awful. so awful I'll be reporting them to the BBB. They did not offer my party of only 2 ice water when we were seated which should be customary. However , they waited on other tables hand and foot then were deliberately disrespectful by continuing this behavior and purposefully not attending to our table . $40 wasted. will not visit ever again.

Yelp
The service was attentive but not hovering. The food was delicious. We ordered different dim sums. We liked them all. The vibe was relaxing and well cared for. We are here for a week and will be circling back before we leave.
