Best Restaurants to Try While Visiting Wilmington, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Eternal Sunshine Cafe takes breakfast classics like pancakes, French toast, and Benedicts and turns the volume way, way up. There’s the bananas Foster French toast or blueberry Danish French toast, “Dippy” pancakes (with candied pecans, candied bacon, and peach puree), a hot honey chicken biscuit, and duck and waffles (confit duck with sweet and sour orange duck sauce on a ginger waffle with sunny side up duck egg and scallions). There are more than half a dozen different Benedict offerings, and the daily/weekly specials are always worth a look." - Matt Lardie

Eternally delicious!! The food was absolutely amazing. A very creative take on the typical brunch menu. The Caribbean illusion was amazing, I wish I could have the coconut pudding with mango on EVERYTHING. Definitely worth a visit for anything on the menu. The staff was also exceptional, Katie was so nice!

Google
I actually wrote this while i was sitting in and eating. (Which i never do).We had 6 in our party and they sat us quietly. My kids actually ate all their food. Katie our server was amazing. The house made mimosa and the house made Blueberry Syrup is a must try… Bathrooms were very clean too…. Thank you

I’ve been coming here with one of my best friends since 2024. Best brunch breakfast spots in Wilmington. I travel all the way to Jacksonville for this type of good food. Their Eternal Benedict is amazing ! Their mimosas are Great as well. I love their Pokémon card theme menu. The only down side is there are some ingredients in certain meals that can’t be removed. Otherwise it’s a great breakfast place! Come in for a good time and great meal!

We came for brunch on a Sunday around 11am. There was a 30 minute wait but we were able to get outdoor seating immediately. The food came out not too long after we got there. I ordered the French toast with eggs and bacon. The flavors were on point and I enjoyed my meal. We will definitely be coming here again.

Google
This cafe may appear ordinary, but we were pleasantly surprised. The service was efficient; the small space made it easy to get an attendant's attention. We ordered the Bourbon Myths & Berry Tales and the Driving Me Bananas. The dishes were not only beautifully presented but also exceptionally delicious—truly elevated. We left not just with full stomachs, but with a memorable experience.

Our waitress (Daisy) was very hospitable and knew the menu well. She gave us a recommendation for the Lobster Roll Benedict. So we ordered a Lobster Roll Benedict and a Beehive Burner. Oh my goodness! the artistic presentation of both were on point and delicious. We will definitely visit Eternal Sunshine Cafe again! Hopefully we will see you there!

Google
If you’re a celiac, here’s your breakfast spot! They have a printed gluten free menu with SO MANY OPTIONS! The food was absolutely out of this world delicious, the staff were beyond kind and welcoming, the atmosphere is upbeat and fun! I have zero complaints. I’ll be back again every time I visit Wilmington!

Google
Every time I come here, the iced coffee is good, the pancakes are bussin, their avocados are ripe and everything is great. My only complaint is when it’s busy it’s hard to enjoy your food with the noise. But not the restaurants fault. They got good food and good service. Way better than most breakfast places and they change the menu all the time. The only thing I don’t like about the menu change is they got rid of my chipotle avocado and bacon breakfast burrito :(

Yelp
SO SO GOOD!! Gluten free breakfast options aren't plentiful in this area, so I took a chance on this location pretty much solely based on having gluten free French toast on the menu - a rare find! I sat outside, and there's a cozy indoor area too. The French toast and especially the homemade blueberry syrup was incredible, and the bacon and eggs that came with it were also delicious. Small touches like adding cheese to eggs or adding a garnish were fun to see. My one request would be to have more iced coffee options aside from plain coffee but I made it work! Tip: take the time to read through their menu, it's so cute!

Yelp
I have dined at Eternal Sunshine many times in the last 8 years. Was always good food and a great dining experience but ... I don't believe that I can go back again. The new menu is ridiculously hard to read and while the new offerings are a bit more posh, the menu is childish in design and impossible to navigate. New menu includes new items - I love Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Holladaised and Confused Benedict. Boring and tasteless until I added some salt and pepper. At $22, it should have been amazing. It wasn't. Bring back your old menu and old Benedicts and I might return. Service was very good. Ambiance was, as usual, casual with lots of friends enjoying their time together. Question: Why would a solidly good restaurant make such drastic and disastrous changes when they had been fantastic before? I am not a person who typically writes bad reviews but the Owner / Manager / Partners of this restaurant need to know that their "upgrades" are not worth the risks of alienating customers who have so many other great brunch options in Wilmington. If I cannot read or navigate your new menu as a highly literate person, you've got to examine if this was a good change (hint: it wasn't!). The new food wasn't worth the new price tag, either. Good luck!

Yelp
Eternal Sunshine has a fun and bright interior with a decent amount of seating. We were lucky to be seated immediately during a busy Saturday brunch service. Their new Pokemon card-themed menu was a bit hard to navigate, but our server was friendly and happy to provide recommendations. We ordered the Southern Belle Benedict and Eternal Benedict. The chicken on the Southern Belle Benedict had a nice crisp to it, though the gravy wasn't as flavorful as we would've liked. The Eternal Benedict was just ok -- a bunch of average ingredients combined together that wasn't all too memorable. Overall, Eternal Sunshine Cafe is a popular brunch spot, but we weren't entirely impressed with our food.

Yelp
The service was top notch, shout out to Katie! Katie was able to show me the old cool and unique menu made to theme of Pokemon cards. As well as a great explanation of the presentation of the meal ! The food was a fun experience and blast to eat! Very taste and fresh. Definitely would recommend!

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding! We were stuck at the front door taking in the reader board. Our server Maggie popped her head out and invited us in. She ushered us to our table and immediately brought waters. Nice welcome, great smile. The menu, The Menu, THE MENU! Wow. 20 years as a chef and almost 40 years in the business, I would drive the 3 hours from Greensboro for this experience. The page handed to us was a laminated play on trading cards. Each item better than the last. I finally ended on the "Bourbon Myth and Berry Tails". Probably the best pork belly I've ever had, the smoked Gouda frittatas were flavorful and delicious. The croissant French toast was excellent. The decor was exactly fit for the name. Mural painted on the wall with cherry blossoms over our head, neon that toted Friends with Benedict's. I would love to meet the mastermind behind this place. We stopped because of the excellent Yelp reviews and will be back for the amazing food and outstanding service. Thank you!

Yelp
If you find yourself in Wilmington, North Carolina, I can't recommend @eternalsunshinecafe enough. On a recent trip to visit family I was blown away by the food, service, and atmosphere. One of the members in my brunch party is GF. They had an entire separate GF menu for them to choose and additionally asked if they needed to be mindful of any cross contamination/ which items to stay away from if this was a concern. Once they received their entree, they also mentioned this was the best GF bread they've ever tried. Additionally, we sat down (immediately- no wait!) and were instantly greeted with two tasting samples of their current special "Caribbean Illusion" when I tell you this little plate brought me SO much joy. It looks literally like your typical eggs, potato's and toast but it is infact a delicious illusion of coconut pudding, mango purée, guava caviar, cinnamon pineapple chunks and French toast. This was so creative and innovative- I was in love. Their mimosa flight is also a must order. These (IMO) are HUGE, flavorful and unique. For entrees I went with the kickin' Benedict which was the perfect slightly spicy breakfast bite. The jalapeño cheese bread round was an great vessel for the avocado, egg and sausage patty. Their chipotle hollandaise was more subtle, a creamy spice that played well with the jalapeño bread bottom. I opted for the black truffle grits which I enjoyed, not overly truffle-y. I also couldn't NOT try the cinna-swirl pancake. I mean for just a few extra dollars why not try it!? It was decadent but also light. Keep in mind there is a coffee maple icing which adds a slight tang/ savory aspect to calm down the dish from being overly sweet. It was a great balance. Everyone in my party just raved about this place once we left, all commenting this will be a new favorite for the family. I look forward to more great meals here in the future!! 5/5

Yelp
I didn't get any pictures of our food unfortunately because we were hungry & everything looked delicious. It's 40 minutes from where we are staying but we are going back this morning. The Southern Belle Benedict was 100/10. The chicken was cooked to perfection with a crunchy outside & the gravy was also amazing.

Yelp
So first and foremost the food is great. Very creative and fairly upscale for breakfast. They have changed their menu a lot in the recent year or so. It used to be more of a greasy spoon breakfast diner type of feel. Food has always been great. They don't do many customizations so if that's your thing I would look elsewhere for breakfast. Would definitely come back just not on the regular due to higher pricing for breakfast. Service was also prompt and everyone we encountered was nice.

Yelp
We have been eating at Eternal Sunshine Cafe for several years. We visit Wrightsville Beach at least yearly. We always breakfast here at least once every trip. The service is great and the food is always delicious. The menu has changed and is a bit hard to read for the bifocal crowd (it's busier and print is small). The food is still wonderful with both traditional and some fancier options. A couple of the newer dishes are almost too beautiful to eat, the presentation is amazing! The best of both worlds. Still my favorite place to breakfast in Wrightsville Beach.

Ann T.

Yelp
Things really changed. The new menu looks dull. Not much of a great selection and the prices are ridiculous for this menu. I had the chicken and waffles and barely finished what they had on the plate because it was cold not flavorful and what's with a mountain of whip cream? Just filling in space. Unfortunately, just as I left I felt nauseous and went on to spend the rest of the weekend close to the bathroom. Yup, a bit of food Posioning. Just read the Department of health rating. Think someone needs to monitor the food in the kitchen and how it's handled.

Yelp
We stopped here for Brunch on Saturday. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The place wasn't too crowded so we decided to sit inside. Hubby specifically wanted to eat here for the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes. He ended up getting the special: 2 pancakes with 2 eggs (any style) and a choice of Protein. Overall he thought they were delicious but he was expecting dessert level sweetness. He actually added a bunch of syrup. (4/5) I went without a clue of what I wanted and saw their slideshow on their TV and decided to try the Hot Honey Chicken Biscuits. This also came with two eggs (any style) and choice of side. This dish was okay and gave hot and honey. The chicken lacked flavor. It's not a traditional biscuit and gave chicken on French toast. I didn't like that the breading was basically falling off the chicken breast. I'd give it a 3.5/5. Our sides came out about 10 minutes after our entrees but the servers were very apologetic.

Yelp
I have loved coming here for years and they never disappoint. One word- presentation. They actually care about the food they are serving and I've never gotten anything that felt rushed out. The staff are always super kind and friendly. It is by far my favorite breakfast spot to take anyone from out of town or just for an occasional breakfast date with the hubs. Ps they dropped some really unique Pokémon inspired menus that you gotta go see for yourself!

Yelp
Honestly, I wish I could give Eternal Sunshine more than 5 stars- maybe 10 or more! I met a group of friends here for brunch one Sunday morning. I remembered the food being tasty, but I was in for a MASSIVE treat! I tried the mimosa flight first- there was more than enough for everyone to share. As someone allergic to OJ, I love that there are so many other options to enjoy a mimosa brunch situation. For our meals, we all tried all sorts of magical food items! One friend tried some incredible fancy Cinnamon Roll pancakes. Another friend tried the banana fosters French toast. Another tried one of the eggs benedicts, while another tried a fried chicken meal. All of them were extremely tasty!!! I tried the deeeelicious Caribbean Illusion- what a fun meal! Everything looks like normal until you take a bite of the egg... only to find out that it's really mango on top of coconut pudding! Then you try the home fries only to discover it's really grilled cinnamon pineapple! Such a fantastic meal! Our server, Emily, was also truly wonderful. She was attentive and helpful while also being really friendly. Only downside- the AC was broken so life was very toasty inside. Hopefully next time things will be much cooler and JUST as tasty!

Yelp
Best breakfast I have ever had. Hands down. Such a flavorful Benedict! Will be coming back for sure. Friendly staff and really cool atmosphere!
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
They haven't been down here in a while. They have been some changes made. I don't love that the menu is Pokémon cards. The food was delicious!
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Friendly service, good food and the coffee served in a big mug. A different kind of breakfast cafe with a kind of eclectic hipster feel to it. There's a sign on the door that says, "wait here for seating", so I found it refreshing that they like to hold open the door to welcome you in. I would recommend a visit this cafe as a worthwhile way to enjoy a nice breakfast!

Tina H.

Yelp
Food was fabulous to taste as well as pleasing to look at. Server was so friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Stopped in for breakfast and the place is clean, service was fast and friendly and the food was great! Katie was super friendly.

David B.

Yelp
Quaint joint nested in a small strip. Seating is cozy! Popular- expect to wait. Specialists in all things Benedict... highlight is they not only offer but exceeded expectations for GF options and practices! Food was savory, sweet and cooked to order. I had the Southern Belle, wife had California, girl had Cinnamon Swirl pancakes and her boyfriend had hot honey chicken. A la cart Eggs to order did not disappoint! Side salads were fresh greens perfectly wetted with a vinaigrette glaze and tossed with sunflower seeds and dried cranberries. Priced right for quality and service. Soft familiar background music was covered by the warm and energetic crowd noise peppered with laughter and celebrations. Staff were happy, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and dietary restrictions. A definite MUST TRY if you're a brunch-phile.

Yelp
Excellent service, attentive staff and the food got out quickly. I got the Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit. It was good but I think I would get the honey sauce on the side next time so I could decide how much to add and mix with some regular syrup that was available on the table. Hubs got the Blueberry Danish French Toast. It was delicious. Definitely on the pricey side so not an every weekend venture, but we would come back to treat ourselves. Appreciated the offer for a coffee to go . Always.

Yelp
The gloriousness of this little establishment is unexplainable lol. I've been craving king crab Benedict but unfortunately it's impossible to find in NC. When I was near Eternal Sunshine I figured I'd try it out! On special was the Lobster Roll Benedict and wow. I've had a lot of Benedicts in my life and this rivals the best! Served on lobster roll bread this whole thing was amazing every single bite! Potatoes in this red pepper sauce divine. The French toast has a very thin crunchy layer and inside soft deliciousness. Service is a little slow but I mean the place is packed I'm sure open to close. I was there 24 hours ago and itching to go back literally ready to make the hour drive right now!!
google avatar

Ken G.

Yelp
This is a great place for breakfast. My wife at the cinnamon French toast and I had the best combo breakfast. They were both awesome. The service was excellent and I loved the menu and feel of the place. They had outside seating if you have a dog.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
We've eaten here now three times. It's a cute little spot and the servers seem happy to be there. The menu is really - creative and inventive and the execution is solid. This week we stopped in for a late brunch and it was great. I had "Burning Down the Hive" a hot honey chicken French toast biscuit creation with a candied jalapeño, peach cream and frittatas. Overall delicious if not on the sweet side. The co owner asked if would me give her feedback and I did Highly recommend ordering a side of their bacon with this dish. 10/10 would order it again

Stephanie J.

Yelp
First time eating here and it will not be my last! Great service, wonderful Gluten Free menu, and they clean the grill before they cook your food!! I'll be back before our trip is over to try the fresh toast.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
This place was really cute. It felt like a mom and pop shop and tasted like home cooking. I had eggs with sausage and french toast. Wifey had pancakes with eggs and bacon. We both had coffee for drinks. They are supposed to be known for the benedicts, I would come back here to try that. The service was good our waitress was nice and she explained everything on the menu including specials.

Rose H.

Yelp
Not to be missed- the food is absolutely elevated and delicious with an artistic look. The establishment clean with artwork that ties into the name / theme of the restaurant. The staff were super friendly and hard working. Excited to come back and try more items from the menu!
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
Service was quick and steady, food was perfect not too much or not enough. Prices were as expected nothing crazy. If you're looking for a nice casual brunch we loved it!
google avatar

Lori D.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my family. Sat outside and the ambiance inside was very cute. Service was quick and friendly. The coffee was watery and not that great. Rest was perfect. I had the Lucha Libre with turkey sausage and grits. My son had the cinnamon swirl pancakes which were huge and flavorful. My husband had the California Benedict which he said was good but the English muffin wasn't toasted. Odd. Outside of that, I recommend it! Bring your own coffee.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
I came in on a Tuesday morning and went with the recommendation of the server. Food was amazing and price wasn't bad for just me. A place I definitely wouldn't avoid if I was having my car serviced again. Check out the winery next door!
google avatar

Elena B.

Yelp
For the size, it wasn't to crowded. The food was great and very diverse options, presentation was nice of food. Portions were filling. Only half our food came out and then had to wait around another 10 minutes for the other half. Wasn't to noisy and kitchen sounds were blocked out. Overall- 4 stars
google avatar

Cindy G.

Yelp
Great spot for a Sunday brunch. There was a little bit of a weight, but well worth it. Indoor and outdoor seating available with nice ambience inside. They are known for their egg Benedict's, and I loved their gluten free menu. The gluten-free toast was toasted just right and the eggs and hollandaise sauce were delicious. The truffle grits were full of flavor, and the bowl they were in was warmed up. Restaurant was very clean, and server was very attentive.
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Eternal Sunshine Cafe is one of my favorite brunch spots in Wilmington! Two of my favorite dishes are the Cinna-Swirl Pancakes and the Southern Belle Benedict. Weekend Brunch time can be pretty busy and you need to be present to get on the waiting list, so plan accordingly. It is worth the wait! They are known best for their Benedict's and their mimosa flights but you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu!

Lauren B.

Yelp
Great gluten free breakfast! I sat at the bar and enjoyed my hearty brunch of French toast which is such a treat to have. Scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon rounded out the meal and I washed it all down with a watermelon mimosa. Will definitely come back here when I'm in town.
google avatar

Talia B.

Yelp
I've herd about this place for a while now & finally decided to give it a try! The food was amazing! It's the first time in a while I put food in my mouth and was like WOW! I had the fried chicken biscuit & my friend had the banana fosters! We were shocked by how great it was! Not crazy about the location and alot of rules on the door you have to read! Don't walk straight into the restaurant you have to wait outside until a hostess greets you! But overall Food was great!
google avatar

Julie S.

Yelp
This spot was amazing!! Staff was super friendly, the drinks and food were great. The hostess estimated a 15-20 minute wait, but we got a text saying a space was available within 5 minutes. Awesome gluten free options like cheesecake French toast! They have a gluten free menu with Benedict and French toast options, so be sure to ask for it. The strawberry mimosas were also awesome, clearly some the syrups and things are made in house too. Thoroughly enjoyed our brunch!
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
What a great place for brunch! Our server Yasmine was excellent. She offered do some separate checks was good with meals that were split and offered us water to go. Service was quick, food and drinks were excellent. Everyone loved their meal! We got there around noon on a Friday and we're able to be seated quite quickly. This is a great place for those who love Benedicta!

Gary D.

Yelp
Great breakfast joint. Customer service was excellent. Food came fairly quickly and it was very good. The ingredients were fresh and really good. I would highly recommend the restaurant

paris l.

Yelp
Such a cool place! The menu looks like Pokémon cards. We had a flight of mimosas which were very good. I had a classic eggs benedict with potato's and the most amazing hot pepper sauce. Our server was good!

Jay I.

Yelp
Service 4.5/5 Benedicts 5/5 looked and tasted great Pancakes 4.5/5 prefer a bit more fluffy, but good Coffee 1.5/5. Very tasteless coffee. This is clearly not their focus here Value 4/5. Cute shop.

Yelp
I have been to Eternal Sunshine twice and I have to say I am impressed. When it comes to eating out I'd say that is a pretty difficult feat because I am a great cook. It isn't very often when I eat out that I am wowed. Usually, if after I eat I feel I can make it better at home, then I have restaurant remorse, and I feel like I should have just stayed home and cooked for myself. Well, not at Eternal sunshine. I also love the fact that that you can order a Benedict and a fancy French toast or pancake together. Today, I had a brisket Benedict and pumpkin French toast and they were amazing. I will be fantasizing about them for sometime. The seasonally changing menu is nice as I am pretty sure it was different from my last visit. The service was great and the wait was not long. I will definitely be returning! It was a great experience. Kudos to the whole staff! Well done!

Bella M.

Yelp
Love the food! Don't like the new menus tho very confusing to read... love coming here with my friends after sunrise at the beach!
google avatar

Tammy M.

Yelp
We stopped by on a rainy, blustery Sat morning. We were seated right away. The servers were cheerful and helpful. I opted for a mimosa. Priced on the high side but it was delicious. Their coffee is also priced high but it's a delicious blend. Our server even gave us a cup to go. No complaints here. Now on to the Benedict's. SUPER YUMMY !!!! Probably some of the best Benedict's we have been had. We ask for our potatoes to be extra crispy - that was good for us. They are basket fried so this may not be for everyone. We would eat here again. The French toast at the table next to us looked great !! Give them a try. Located in a small strip mall.

Tom L.

Yelp
If u like below average food and over priced food, this is your place and rude service. Shame old sunshine was so good. Hope they didn't do this to there other locations....
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
There is outside seating, of which my group took advantage. The vegan avocado toast with sprouts was fresh & good, but the portion was not a good value for the price. I hardly noticed the service; too busy socializing, I guess. I would only come here if my group wanted to. I need to get enough food!
google avatar

Todd Z.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast. Had French Toast and eggs. Very satisfying. Be prepared to wait on the weekends. It's a popular spot
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
The only thing better than the service is the food! An interesting menu executed perfectly. I was tempted by the Caribbean Illusion but decided on the Eternal Benedict and was not disappointed. Eggs poached perfectly & rich hollandaise to top it off. The fresh fruit cup is indeed fresh & ripe to perfection (pet peeve of mine to be served underripe fruit). Hubs enjoyed the biscuits & gravy with a side of truffle grits (OMG). Little Miss thoroughly enjoyed her Mickey Pancake. Fresh squeezed OJ was the perfect addition.
google avatar

Beau S.

Yelp
Liked it some much we went back before leaving town. Gluten Free French Toast and the Kickin' Benedict.
google avatar

david g.

Yelp
Worth the 30 minute wait The pancakes were awesome and server who was new did an excellent job
google avatar

Mandi C.

Yelp
Omg this place exceeded all expectations. Seemingly small menu for breakfast items. But they all pack a punch. Service was fantastic. Small patio and is dog friendly with water bowls! Items gotten: Hot honey biscuit: fried chicken on French toast biscuit and a hot honey syrup. Scrambled eggs and home fries Kickin Benedict with
