Great stop on my roadtrip. Stopped specifically to see Alana Airitam’s show which was incredible and was also pleased to see the impressive collection of other work. Was great to chat with the Etherton folks. Will be the first place I hit next time I’m in Tucson.

Top notch Photo Gallery on level with most small photo museums. Terry is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Let him guide you to find the right addition to your collection.

Cute little gallery. No one there during the week. Handicapped ramp in the back that leads to a quaint courtyard with benches. There is a Native American gallery also accessible thru this courtyard. Pieces are a bit pricey, though.

I've been visiting this gallery on a regular basis for several years now. Nearly every show they've had has introduced me to art that either delights or makes me think. They very carefully curate their shows to bring great art to Tucson. Sometimes mixed media and other formats, but mostly photography represented here. Admission is free and they are only ever busy on their opening nights. If you want to meet the artists or talk to people about the art, go to those, otherwise most days will let you appreciate the show at your own pace.

I went to this gallery as a Tucson visitor, because I was told they had an amazing photography collection. My informant was correct. I ended going back three times in three days, so I could see everything. The staff were extremely nice. Which is important, because I hate snooty art galleries. In addition, they had much more than photography, and I ended up buying an art skateboard, earrings and a small sculpture. I will go back there every time I am in Tucson.

Google
Recommended to us by the local artists at Photographic Works, we were delighted by the quality of the space and the curation of iconic photos. Daphne was super attentive, and the exhibits (Graciela Iturbide and iconic photos from Cuba) were very interesting. Reminds us of the kind of care and attention of the Greenberg Gallery in New York. The Old Barrio area of Tucson is being renewed, and will definitely be “the place” to visit in Tucson in the coming years.

Absolutely a must for photographic afficionados. Wonderful collection that rotates often. Cool building.

Yelp
One of Tucson's better art galleries, with an emphasis on photography. It's in a nice space in an old downtown barrio. It isn't very big, so it gets crowded during openings; the old space was a lot roomier.

Yelp
I came to Etherton Gallery from PHX for the Jay Dussard exhibit in 06/2022. The gallery highlighted Jay although photographs of other legends such as Ansel Adams and Steve McCury were on display. Arriving a couple hours before the exhibit began, it was pleasure talking photography with Jay who in my opinion, belongs on the Mt Rushmore of photography. It was super cool discussing the stories behind some of his photographs. Most photographs shown were western themed, although I absolutely love his black and white landscapes. The event began in at 7. As we arrived, fashionably late at 730, a couple hundred people were already inside floating around the gallery and outside listening to the Dusty Ramblers (who were electric). The gallery was beautiful and the night was a ton of fun. I plan on coming again soon.

Yelp
Oh my!!! The new space is incredible and much more light than I expected. Caught the Yoga show right before it came down. I loved the old space but out with the old and in with more history in Convent.

Yelp
I found this gallery totally underwhelming: from the exhibit of tedious Chamillard pen and ink drawings (on accounting paper) to the decades-old, overplayed journalistic photo images. It's not a photography museum at all, and certainly fails to showcase the work of brilliant Tucson photographers who don't kowtow to the owner.

Yelp
On a recent visit to Tucson my husband's father brought us to the Etherton Gallery to browse. What a wonderful space! I can't believe nobody has Yelped it yet. Located above a restaurant in downtown Tucson, Etherton is a large loft space. Most of the art is in one main room, but there are a few smaller rooms that house photography prints and Native-American art. On our visit there were several different artists showing contemporary drawings and paintings. Something for everyone I'd imagine. A quick visit to their website shows that exhibits tend to stay up for around four months. I'm excited to see what new things they have up the next time I'm in Tucson. Oh, and a note. Sometimes I feel awkward going into galleries knowing full-well I have barely enough money in my bank account to pay my mortgage, let alone buy a painting. Etherton was not one of those galleries. Nobody followed us around (or even came into the gallery from their lobby area while we were looking). It's a very mellow space and I'd imagine that you would feel comfortable coming just to browse.

Yelp
This is located next door to Downtown Kitchen & Cocktails (and up the stairs). We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in. There was lots of interesting art to look at and had a good feeling about the place.

Yelp
What a treat to your senses to visit Etherton Gallery. I had heard that that we showing some of the finest photographers in the US. The last week in August will be the last showing. We were mesmerized by the beauty and simplicity of these talented artists. What a gift they have to show their works. Amongst some of the greats, to name some, Ansel Adams, Phillipe Halsman, Annie Leibovitz, and so many others. A great Gallery to give a boost to your artistic part of your brain. Much enjoyed.

Yelp
I was expecting to see inspirational work that broke new ground. I did not. What I saw was a one dimensional opinion of what good photography is supposed to look like, brought to you by the owner. Most of the B&W work was flat with insufficient contrast. There were a couple of prints that were well done however, which signified a good eye of the shooter and excellent printing. Showcasing documentary/photojournalism is fine but photography is so much more diverse than this. The owner comes across as a photography snob, replete with hubris and swagger. I got the feeling that quality of work was not the guiding principle that drives this business. I'm betting that cronyism is what does.

Yelp
Terrific contemporary fine art photography gallery. Always worth stopping by to see what is on exhibit. An absolute must do when you visit Tucson. There is no other place quite like it. If you think Tucson is just a dusty little desert town, you will more than impressed. Serious art enthusiasts will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite gallery in Tucson. Love that I can just walk in anytime and enjoy the exhibitions. Kate Breakey's work is always stunning. I go back just to visit her Las Sombras series.

Terry and his staff put on the most amazing exhibits. No visit to Tucson is complete without a visit to Etherton Gallery.

Yelp
What a treasured find in downtown Tucson! Always something spectacular to see, and if you fall in love, you can take it home! Everything on the walls is an investment...these super-friendly people REALLY know their stuff. From sought-after photographs to Mata Ortiz pots, awe, wonder, and delight are around every corner. My last trip I found a fantastic small silver box with a beautifully wrought bee on the lid. And I had to be pulled away from Kate Breakey's breathtaking clouds. A must-visit in Tucson with good eats just below. Be ready to treat yourself in both places.

Yelp
Outstanding fine art gallery with an emphasis on photography. They have an exceptional roster of of contemporary artists/photographers in addition to an extensive vintage photography collection. A world class gallery right here in Tucson!

Yelp
We visit photo galleries whenever we travel and can honestly say this gallery in our home town matches or surpasses any we have seen. Etherton represents and shows an astonishing and varied spread of contemporary, classic and early (Edward Curtis!) photographers - as well as some great contemporary art. (We found and bought a James Davis print there that we had wanted for 20 years.) There's always something worth seeing there. It's more like a museum visit than a straight commercial gallery, you're welcome whether you're buying or not. Add to latest show and amazing collection an always friendly staff, the spacious rooms in an historic Downtown Tucson building and its always a good experience. Tucson is something of a photographic hot spot; it's home to the Center for Creative Photography at the nearby University of Arizona and many fine local photographers (art and commercial). And Etherton is a key part of the scene. Never had a problem finding parking and there are some great restaurants and bars nearby.
