The Best Montreal Microbreweries and Craft Beer Bars | Eater Montreal

"The Villeray locale across the way from Jarry metro station pours Quebec beers at their ideal temperature on draft (including tasting flights and bottles to take home), alongside bar bites in a clean and modern space. For the non-beer-lovers in the group, Etoh also does wines and ciders." - Eater Staff

One of the best bars in MTL and the best amaretto sour I’ve tried. Friendly people, great prices, big space, cool events, delicious food. My favourite dish- backed potato. I had a lot of great time here! Highly recommend!🫶👍☺️🙌🤗

Very nice atmosphere and beers and good service! I went with colleagues and we had a great time.

Amazing experience. Sam was one of the friendliest people we met on our trip to Canada. The beer was excellent, the gin and tonic was unique. I also tried a few candies whiskeys which were delicious. All and all great experience and I would definitely recommend.

With a very straight forward name you know what you're getting when you go here. We tried quite a few of their wonderful beers and each one was better than the last. And, of course, since we can't go anywhere without stuffing our faces... We enjoyed some satisfying, delicious food as well. I addition to all that, the simple yet very comfortable decor, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable service with amazing super human memory (our waitress remembered all 10 sampler beers we ordered and who they were for) we had a very good outing overall. Also, we're not sure if there's a reason many microbreweries have those neon lights near their stills (maybe someone can answer this) but it looks cool 🤷‍♂️ 😅.

Great little neighborhood pub. While I didn’t have any beer, they looked delicious. I had the burger with blue cheese and it was quite big! Service was prompt and pleasant. I would hang out here is I lived close. Great tunes!

Good beers, good service and fair prices. Food is nothing fancy but it's not overpriced. It's not a gastro-pub and I wouldn't recommend making dinner plans there but the build your own plank and nachos are super nice.

I really enjoyed grabbing a beer on their terrasse. Being right in the heart of Montreal gives it a very urban feel. Their blonde beer was refreshing and food was okay. Overall not too out of the ordinary but have to say their brioche bun was very fresh and tasty.

Google
Update: food quality has been going down (or my expectations going up?) So I'll remove 1 star ------ original review ------ I go there a bit too often. I love the variety of beer. It change fairly often. You can also take some to go and bring back the emptied. The food is good considering they don't have a full kitchen. (But I would avoid the nachos is I were you) The place can be pretty loud at time but it's very comfortable. Small terasse. Bathroom are clean and interesting. Lots of vegan options (much appreciated!)

Yelp
Had a great experience at ETOH brewery and our bartender, Sam, elevated our experience to amazing. He did a great job explaining the beers/food and how it is locally sourced. Gave us a few tasters, which really helped to make the best decisions for the beer we enjoyed. All of the beers we tasted and ordered were excellent, no bad apples here. We settled on a charcuterie plate of meats and cheeses with the french bread. It was the best charcuterie plate we've had anywhere. Simply delicious. We ordered the speck, proscuitto de marget de canard (duck), Pieux (rosette), Rondin aux champignons sauvages, Terrine pintade-porc pistaches. For cheese we ordered Tomme de M. Seguin & Blue Ermite. The bar was very "pub"ish in appearance, which we like and the menu for the beer and food was equally very good with choices.

Yelp
Reviewing this as an English speaking American, which may have affected our service. The beer was fine, nothing mind blowing, but also not bad. The food was really bad: we had a burger which was cooked way above well done and the nachos which the server didn't let us add anything to. Both were super bland and not worth the price (which was fair for what it was, so not mad about that). Getting anyone to serve us was a challenge: nobody seemed to want to pay us any attention, which I guess I understand? If they don't want folks who can't speak French that's an attitude that's common enough with English in the more rural part of the states, so I'm no stranger to that. But I didn't think I'd encounter it in the middle of a city, but that might be on us. Just be warned that if you don't plan on speaking French you might be better served going somewhere else

Yelp
Nice staff with interesting drinks. Did not get to try the food, but would be willing to go back for that!

Yelp
This place is an amazing gem and I'm surprised and delighted I have it within walking distance in my neighborhood! My husband and I were going out for drinks last night, looking for a decent bar close by for that (not a lot of options for that in our area!) and came upon this thriving micro-brasserie. Their drink menu is fantastic (the prices are not cheap but still reasonable). They have an extensive beer selection and many local specialty spirits (long list of different Gins, & Vodka & Whiskeys), ciders, etc. They also serve some wines and various mixed drinks. My husband tried 2 of their specialty beers and I had went for the mixed drinks (Gin-Epinette & Old Fashioned). We were not disappointed! The Gin-Epinette was especially yummy. The ambiance and decor was great and the staff were helpful and attentive. It was a classy, modern & hip place. Even the bathrooms were well decorated. We didn't try any food this time but it looked like they had some great stuff, we will be trying it next time for sure! We loved it here and we will definitely be coming back regularly!!

Yelp
I was bored one night and stopped in here. At this time they only had a few items available off the menu in which I ordered their nachos. The plater was large and the house brewed beer was tasty. The salsa dip isn't very chunky (how I like it) and very small supply of it. I will need to visit again to provide a better review! It's conveniently located kitty-corner to Jarry Métro and from what I heard it was "cards game + live music night" (on Tuesday). As of now, was I really liked about this place was that after I stuffed myself with nachos & beer at the bar, the backs of the bar seats recline.

Yelp
Overall this place was good. They had some pretty good microbrews. I'm hearing they plan on selling their own stuff eventually. I look forward to that. The atmosphere, however, was not that great. I think it has something to do with the interior design, but it feels kind of cold and bland. Also we went there for a birthday party, and I think more of us showed up than the bar could handle (we might have been 15). Most people had to stand up and were obviously in the way of other clients and waiters, and never did they try to accommodate us and find us a bigger table or work out something. People kept showing up and being stuck standing between tables. After a while the waitress gave up on serving that big group and she stopped coming. We had to go ourselves at the bar to order. Now I'm not holding that against them, it might just have been poor planning on our part, maybe we should have made a reservation.

Yelp
This was the first micro-brew pub that I went to in Montreal...The beer options of course were great however I was a bit disappointed in the food, sure it filled me up but it was rather bland and unimaginative. I would still recommend this as a happy hour joint or a place to catch up with friends over drinks but I would recommend going out afterwards somewhere else nearby for lunch/dinner.

Yelp
A friend suggested this place. I will love this friend forever. And here's why. 1) It's 10mn walk from my place, not that you care, but hey ! 2) They may not have a HUGE selection of beers from around the world, but what they do have is an amazing choice of local beers, they sometimes change the menu regarding what they get 3) They have food to share, cheese plates, nachos and so on (I had a melted brie with dry fruits, bread and nuts : OMAGAD 4) the place is nice and big enough to hear what the person in front of you is saying between two sips of beer 5) Quick and really efficient service, the waitress clearly knew what she was doing, and good advices on the beers they had Should be enough to convince you, right ? Cheers

Yelp
It's a nice place and pretty close to the the Jarry Metro Not too cramped for a Tuesday Night, very nice for having a group of people together. The beer selection is very nice as well, having several Montrealer Microbrews. Had one of the stronger Ales (which tasted more like a Lambic than an Ale, but I digress) and it was a nice choice (though I'd describe it as slightly spicy)

Yelp
We walked from our little neighbourhood to the next one to try another microbrew place, because, you know, you can never try enough microbrews! It was a not-so-sunny-it-might-rain-not-sure-oh-here's-the-sun-oh-wait-it's-gone kinda weekday but as we arrived around 6.30 the place was nevertheless packed (inside and out). Ok, fine, it must be good then! As I'm freezing (no, literally) under 25degrees, we headed in and triumphatly we managed to elbow-wrestle our way to an empty table squeezed in between other tables "Oops sorry didn't mean to leave my derriere in your food but I like didn't have a choice if I wanted to get to my seat! Looks good though!" Beer menu is very interesting with their own brews and food menu although short is mouth-watering with good food and vegan option which as always doesn't come cheap. We shouted our order to the waitress (see reason below) and got a blonde and a white beer, the Tempeh sandwich and the cheese board. We found nothing exciting with any of it and for the price, were still hungry. The staff is courteous but no more. The atmosphere is really loud from the over-loud volume of the music and everyone trying to shout over it to be heard by their table companions. Plus, seriously, did you have to dim the light to "darkness level" at 7pm!? If you want me to pay I will need to find my hand first and eventually, I know you love me, but I will have to find the door to go home!

Yelp
Nice brasserie in the heart of Villeray, with a simple but cosy decor and ok service. Tried to go there on a Friday night (around 6.30) and couldn't find a place to sit so we left. Went back on a Tuesday night, and the place was much quieter, with plenty of seats available. There was also a jazz band which was awesome. They were loud enough, but you could still hear yourself talk. The beer is good and fairly priced compared to similar drinking spots. Overall, it's definitely a go-to bar to have a drink or two with your mates!

Yelp
Great beers on tap, fun snack food and a quick stumble to the orange line...we all know how important that is to me. There was a jazz band playing and because I am getting old, I found that it was a bit too loud and I could only hear the person sitting right beside me, but still, for a Tuesday night, it made for a cool atmosphere. The beer was a tad on the pricey side especially given that it's north of the tracks and the room was nothing special, so that's why they only get 3 stars instead of 4.
google avatar

Risa D.

Yelp
I am totally delighted to have another nearby option for pints of local beer, and it's fun to explore north instead of heading south all the time. The beers on tap here are a bit different from those at Vices et Versa usually, so that's cool too, and the room isn't bad, but it's just not my favourite somehow. There's something a little lacking about it, though the cement and stretches of blond wood are nice, and the waitress and staff in general seemed super friendly and moving quick for a very crowded bar, there's a whiff of blankness. Maybe what feels like a lack of strong character is just the newness. The nachos were tasty and all cheers for the local craft beers. I'll be back.

Yelp
Good beer menu, ciders and little appetizers. Sometimes it offers live music! Great ambience with outside table during summer. 2min from Jarry metro station!
