The 12 Hottest New Restaurants in New Orleans, January 2025

"After 30 years leading Birmingham, Alabama’s farm-to-table dining scene, celebrated chef Chris Dupont returned to his native New Orleans to open what he says will be his “last” restaurant. At Étoile, Dupont is starting with a seven-course tasting menu priced at $150 served three nights a week — Thursday, Friday, and Saturday — dishes that might include crabmeat and peach relish gazpacho; black drum with crawfish succotash and heirloom tomato butter; and rabbit arancino served with creamed Silver Queen corn. It’s a Parisian-inspired, American South beauty sure to become one of New Orleans’s finest new destination dining spots, with plans to add an a la carte option in the future." - Clair Lorell

What an amazing night and experience! If you’re looking to make zero decisions and have an amazing meal, this is definitely the place. Chef Chris has curated an enjoyable tasting menu that allows you to experience each course in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the palate. The food focuses on French cooking techniques and sourcing from local farms as much as possible. It was a beautiful balance. For example, the Seared Red Snapper tonight was paired with a fried egg and crispy okra - providing a fabulous balance of flavors and textures. The chef also makes a point to come out and check on guests throughout the coursing. The rest of the staff are personable and make sure you have an amazing experience. When I return to NOLA, I will definitely be back.

We had a great time! The service was awesome, everyone was so kind and thoughtful. Drinks were great. Food was great. I think the portions could actually be smaller, with stronger flavors. We were SO full! But overall a wonderful dinner!

Google
An amazingly personalized restaurant experience. The chef came out to talk to every table and before the meal to set the stage for what the experience should be like (we are taken care of, no decision paralysis, just great food and comforting setting). It was a fantastic night. They also were super accommodating for dietary preference so let them know in advance and they can accommodate it. Would highly recommend! It’s also literally in a house and you can go explore the rooms before your meal. Very unique.

Overall, Etoile was fantastic. I dined here with my family for my birthday and the chef came out occasionally to ask us about the food and let us know how he made some dishes. I wasn’t expecting to get full, but the timed portions made the meal filling overtime as well as palette satisfying. The dessert was good, needs a bit more flare to it though. I recommend coming here.

This place has lots of positives that should be celebrated, but it wasn't a perfect meal. The atmosphere is fantastic. They did a great job converting this old home on Magazine into a restaurant. The bar is beautiful. The light fixtures are fantastic. The food was delicious, too. Everything we had through entrees was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The caviar with quail egg was amazing. The fish and root chips was perfectly executed. The catfish was great. Dessert was a bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. I got one of the dessert cocktails that made mention of banana. It was astringently bitter and very off putting; a fat cry from the previous drinks I'd had that were so good. The wife got an espresso martini. It was fine, but nothing to remember. The desserts were just ok. They presented well, but didn't deliver. One thing I think needs a bit of attention is the service. Did we get bad service? No. Not at all. It's just that it wasn't polished, and in some instances, seemed to be a little too nonchalant. Seems like a silly critique, except that when you're spending several hundred on a meal for two, then you expect everything to be dialed in and sharp. It wasn't. Would I go back? Absolutely. And I think it's 100% worth you visiting. I just want to be completely honest with my review. We take our restaurants seriously here in New Orleans.

Google
The restaurant itself is designed beautifully. The tasting menu is well thought out, and it feels very classically French but with local ingredients. The rabbit was the standout but everything was delicious. Service was very friendly and attentive just a couple missteps along the way. There’s only one dining room and seating time but it still feels intimate. They invite you to come before dinner for a welcome cocktail and to explore the house. It was a nice night so we could enjoy the patio. Overall it just feels like a special dining experience! They do auto include gratuity which isn’t uncommon now, however I did think 25% was a bit higher than the standard 20% we normally see. We were dying to try this place and weren’t disappointed. We would come back for a special occasion.

We loved Etoile and had an amazing dining experience. The restaurant is very nice and the staff is friendly and welcoming. You can walk around before dinner starts and see the kitchen and their herb garden and whatever staff is around will stop and talk to you. The meal itself was outstanding and the service was great. The chef comes out and talks to you and it is clear he loves what he does and is very thankful for dining with them. I wish I had taken some pictures but we were enjoying the meal so much I forgot. Very impressed and will definitely be back soon!

Google
The food was phenomenal. Everything tasted incredible and I love that the menu changes based on what’s in season, it really shows in the quality. It’s great to see a place that sticks to a true farm-to-table approach. The staff were awesome. Everyone was friendly and made us feel really welcome. The music was great! The only thing that felt off was the atmosphere. The dining room (and entire home in general) felt cold and empty, which took away from the otherwise warm experience. It needs more coziness or personality to match the food and service in my opinion. Still, I’d absolutely come back. The food alone is worth it.

Yelp
The service , the atmosphere and the food are all amazing. Their cocktail program is phenomenal. Very small #s of patrons seated. You truly feel like you have been invited into someone's home for a wonderfully catered dinner party. Trust me and make reservations here

Yelp
Etoile is an incredible food & wine experience that is one not to be missed! They are currently open Thursday-Friday-Saturday and are on Tock for reservations. Calling to make reservation is another way to secure a seating or to book an event (504-582-9920). They gave us a tour of the home and they have an incredible space upstairs for larger parties. They even have a private smaller dining room downstairs. There website is etoileorleans.com. Here you can make a reservation and review sample menus. We eat at our regular restaurants when we are in town, but this one will now be on our list every time we come to the city. The food is exquisite and locally sourced by farmers. The wine pairings were perfect. The food is presented in portions that are the perfect size and each look like a work of art. You can tell Chris Dupont's heart and soul go into making your experience worth it. The detail of the beautiful home, service and most of all the food and wine make this a destination for locals and anyone visiting the City.

Yelp
Wow - Chef Dupont did it again. This was my first visit to Etoile, but his food at Cafe DuPont in Birmingham, AL was always amazing. Having had a couple of days to reflect I can say that this was my top dining experience of the year, and it is a shame that only 24 people can eat here on the few nights they are open. The service was personal, warm, and near perfect. I would compare it to Eleven Madison Park, Addison, and AbaC. The dishes at Etoile were beautifully constructed and cocktails, mocktails, and wine paring were all selected and perfected to deliver a transformative experience. Etoile orchestrated an experience that made eight of us feel part of something more than dinner. They have one seating and a set tasting menu, with a well-planned option for vegetarians. The "cocktail hour" before the meal pulled us in and opened the experience in a way that let us know we were being welcomed "home" and about to take part in a bigger dinner party. There were three groups having birthdays and without any of us realizing it they placed the three candled cakes down in synch so the room filled with people singing Happy Birthday. The little details made the night. Once people have discovered it there will be no way to get a reservation and I for one feel privileged to have eaten here. I hope they don't change a thing and i can get a table the next time I am in town. Don't think about it just book Etoile. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
This restaurant is in a beautiful former home and I think it was a former restaurant at some point on magazine Street. It is very well appointed and very pretty. We went to a tasting menu dinner and were served seven very small portions of very delicious food. If you add the (small portions) wine pairing, you are looking at probably $250 a person at least. It was great to have the experience, but I don't think I would do it again for that price. Someone else chose the restaurant and we didn't inquire much about it in advance. Glad we went and enjoyed it, but again it was pretty expensive for what you got. My SO was still hungry after.

Yelp
The food and experience were fantastic. In my opinion the caviar Red Potato Gratin dish was my favorite of the night on 8/1/24. Christiana and Kaylynn were spectacular and made a great team. They were both very friendly and attentive. Chef Doupont did an amazing job putting together a unique delicious menu. Why go to Commanders and beg for a table to get their tasting menu when you can go Etoile and have a better experience in a more intimate setting in a stunning building! Thanks for a great night! Yelp
The crab, fried tomato gazpacho was delicious. So many layers of flavor! Chef Dupont made this play on a French toast that I can't even describe. It was inventive and delicious. It's wonderful to see Chef in his new restaurant, sharing his talent and love for food with New Orleans. Chef DuPont is one of our favorite chefs. He was in Birmingham for many years, and we loved his restaurant, Cafe Dupont. We had our wedding party at his restaurant, and he created the most memorable party for us. New Orleans, you are lucky to have Étoile!
