One of the best reubens I've ever had. Pastrami is cut right in front of you. Everything was exceptional, from food to service. I definitely recommend stopping by for fresh sandwiches, salads, or burgers.

Great classic spot with an old-school vibe and friendly feel. The place is clean, cozy, and has that local charm you don’t find often anymore. I had the corned beef with cabbage and mashed potatoes — hearty, flavorful, and just the kind of comfort food I was hoping for. Portions were generous, and the meat was super tender. Service was easy and efficient, and there’s plenty of space to sit and relax. Definitely coming back when I’m in the area.

Comfort food at its finest. Warm and friendly atmosphere. I had the Ruben which was absolutely delicious. I’ll definitely be back to try different things!

Europa – Where Comfort Meets Culinary Excellence Europa is more than just a restaurant — it's a heartfelt experience wrapped in warmth, flavor, and community. From the moment you step inside, you're no longer just a guest; you’re part of something special. A place where food doesn’t just feed you — it moves you. A restaurant that has managed to capture the very soul of European home cooking and elevate it into a full-bodied dining experience, Europa is the kind of place you dream of stumbling upon… and once you do, you never want to leave. Let’s be clear: Europa is awesome. There’s no other word that fits quite as well. It’s a harmonious blend of culinary art and cozy atmosphere — a place where every detail feels intentional, and every bite tastes like love. First Impressions: A Place That Feels Like Home Walking into Europa feels like entering the home of a dear friend. The exterior, though unpretentious, has a welcoming charm. and there’s a distinct, cozy glow that draws you in from the street. The interior is just as inviting. think polished wood tables, soft pendant lighting, and tasteful decor that whispers rather than shouts. It’s super clean (you notice how clean it is), and it has an air of freshness without feeling sterile. Soft music hums in the background, and the space is lively without being loud. You immediately get that “good vibes only” feel — people are smiling, staff are laughing, and there’s a pleasant buzz of conversation in the air. It’s hard not to feel instantly at ease. Service That Shines The service at Europa is, without exaggeration, exceptional. The staff here seem genuinely happy to be doing what they do, and it shows. From the host who greets you with a warm smile to the servers who are attentive without hovering, every member of the team goes above and beyond. They know the menu inside out and are happy to recommend dishes based on your preferences. Allergies? Dietary restrictions? They handle it with total confidence and zero fuss. There's a balance here — professional, yet personal; friendly, but never pushy. They seem to know when to engage and when to step back, which is a rare and beautiful quality in hospitality. from appetizers to dessert — is smooth and relaxed, never rushed, never dragging. It’s the kind of service that makes you feel taken care of. The Food: Where Flavor Meets Heart Now for the main event — the food. Europa doesn't just serve food; it serves experiences on a plate. Every dish is infused with the kind of care and detail you’d expect from your grandmother’s kitchen, but with the finesse of a top-tier chef. Here’s the thing: this is home-cooked-style food, but elevated to exquisite heights. The flavors are rich, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Each bite tells a story — of tradition, of passion, of culinary craft passed down through generations. Main Courses The mains are where Europa truly shines. Whether you’re in the mood for hearty comfort or refined elegance, there’s something here that will make your soul sing. I had The Baked Chicken on 🍋the lemon— fall-apart tender Cooked Chicken, slow-cooked in a reduction, paired with Rice, Cabbage and pillowy potatoes that carry just the right hint of earthiness. It’s rich, decadent, and absolutely unforgettable.. Desserts Dessert at Europa is not optional. It’s a must. Drinks: From European Brews to Fine Wines The wine selection is even more impressive. Featuring diverse bottles but approachable. Ask your server for a recommendation — chances are they’ll find you the perfect pairing for your meal. Vibes: Atmosphere That Draws You In The vibes at Europa are impeccable. There’s a sense of warmth and welcome that goes beyond just This is Definitely a Five Star Restaurant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you're looking for healthy food without any added b.s, this will be your place to visit. I've tried their food for the past few years and the quality and taste has been consistently good. My favorite is corn beef with mashed potatoes. Definitely check this place and give them a shot.

Samia H.

Google
The roast beef is quite delicious and tender here. The turkey is also very moist. I don't particularly like the sides and salads here, but do recommend getting a sandwich or meats a la carte to take home.

Google
It's a nice old place, nothing special about the inside decor. The staff is average and they are just doing their job and I have no complaints. We ordered a roast beef sandwich and was a little on the very rare side but I was told it was good. I ordered a burger and it's just a regular burger slightly overcooked, I wouldn't order again. The place was clean and and I didn't see any red flags. They have alot of different option and next time I will try something different and update my review

Delia C.

Google
This is your place for a comforting, heavy meal. Not many healthy options but the food was delicious and big portions. Lots of meats, served cafeteria style where you grab a tray and ask for what you want as you move down the line. Lots of places to sit. Friendly service.
google avatar

Yelp
It was not even my intent to dine here when I first visited. I walked by and noticed that the place is cafeteria-style with a handful of people eating/lined up. I checked it out and made the choice to dine here instead. What got me to choose this place is the cafeteria-style dining and of course, the food that they serve. I opted for the pork, mashed potatoes, and green beans. They also gave bread, but that was really dry and could've been better if it was toasted. But that isn't the star of my dining experience. First, they gave me a lot of food! Serving size is definitely on point here. The pork was so flavorful. It paired really well with the creamy mashed potatoes. The green beans were another great touch as a side. This was my first time at Hofbrau and it'll definitely not be my last.

Yelp
Food 4.5/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 3.5/5 Who cares about Ambiance, the reason you want to check out this spot is The Meats. You can choose from a variety of meat protein: turkey, ham, roast beef, corned beef and today's visit in celebration of Oktoberfest assortment of bratwurst and brockwurst. The meats are carved to order, you can have a sandwich, a platter with rolls and a side or open face with mashed potatoes, a slice of bread your choice of meat and brown gravy. I brought my cousin for the first time and she was over the moon with her Rueban on rye with a side of mashed potatoes with butter. I chose the corned beef, open faced sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy over it all. If you want to splurge we did it in a big way and couldn't been happier. The meats are tender, flavorful and worth visiting Europa Hofbrau. There are lots of temptations with other sides to add and the assortment of deserts cake, pie and rice pudding. One of the few times, I didn't take pictures and dug in.

Yelp
Ever feel like a Thanksgiving turkey dinner any time of the year? This is the place to go. They also have roast beef, corned beef, pastrami, etc. I've been coming here for years on and off and still like it. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food and portions are good.

Yelp
So much nostalgia eating at a place like this. Reminds me of the old school diners in Los Angeles back in the day. I drive through the tunnel just to get their corned beef. Great hidden gem.
google avatar

Kelley K.

Yelp
Finally ate here for the first time yesterday. It was clean, large & staff was super nice & helpful. My aunt lived her meatloaf, mashed potatoes & gravy. My turkey sandwich was a little dry. But pretty good! I think next time I'll get gravy ;)

Yelp
Europa is pretty much the only hofbrau restaurant you'll find in a 50 mile radius of where I live. Luckily for me, it is DAMN good!!! When you enter the restaurant, it almost looks as if you're entering a little park, with different sections of the restaurant separated by railings and steps. It's actually pretty cute. You can tell the establishment has been there awhile, and that adds to the charm. They offer corn beef (my usual order), roast beef, turkey, pastrami, mashed potatoes, pasta, salads, and some dessert. The people who work there are always so kind and friendly. I've dined in, but usually order to go. I must stop by this place at least once or twice a month. I'd go more frequently if it was closer. Their hof brau is SO dang good. Oh yeah, I've said that already. Don't take my word for it, go check them out.

Yelp
Excellent Turkey dinner and fast friendly service. Family oriented and happy atmosphere. Three generations celebrated grandma's birthday together!

Yelp
June 14, 2024. A solid 4 We have been stopping by here 30 minutes from our home, once or twice a year for a couple of decades. It's worth the trip. Pastrami and Swiss cheese or corned beef sandwich, half a baked chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Roast beef on french bread dipped in au jus - you get the drift. The food service is similar to Harry's in San Leandro or Tommy's Joint in the City. You point, they slice, your mouth waters, you smile. The place is kept clean but for a few flies that come in through the propped enterance. A relaxed unpretentious European feel. Two sandwiches and a chicken meal with a Coke and you will be $50 lighter. I've paid more for less. Take a drive to Orinda for Europa.

Yelp
Blast from the past. Missing link to a former cuisine. Ubiquitous perhaps still in the Middle West but faded from these shores. I love it. This place rules. I wish I sampled more of their menu but I keep hitting repeat on the Reuben sandwich. Fatty/spicy corned brisket; nutty funkiness of Swiss cheese vis-a-vis sauerkraut; tangy/sweet Russian dressing smeared on austere toasted rye bread. Is it as good as the #18 at Langer's: no, but it's nearly half the price. Roasted Turkey looks marvelous. They featured a really fine German meatloaf. I tried their potato salad once. Too much sugar for me. Grab horse radish and malt vinegar to set it straight. Their interior goes against your wishes. You wish it looked more like a delicatessen and less like a bistro.

Yelp
Classic spot that's been here for decades. Lots of options for a variety of preferences.. hot dishes (roasts, turkey legs, corned beef are all good), rotating specials, salads, sandwiches, burgers, you name it. Usually decently priced, good quality and taste, reliable, lots of seating

Yelp
Ironically I get asked a lot about Hofbrau's throughout the East Bay, and outside of Harry's Hofbrau, I haven't found another one. Until yesterday. I can't believe I never knew this spot existed until my husband was on Yelp researching restaurants near our location. Boom! Europa Hofbrau Deli & Pub is a huge space with a private dining area as well, serving daily specials, specialty salads, sandwiches, open-faced sandwiches, daily soups, and carved dinner plates. I actually didn't know this specific answer, but on their website they ask what exactly is a Hofbrau? "An American cafeteria-style restaurant concept similar to a carvery." A blend of both German and California influences.. I did the fresh roasted turkey carved dinner with mashed potatoes, green beans, homemade stuffing, bread and butter, and a side salad with pickled beets. The hubby had stroganoff on a bed of pasta, and the baby had a side of mashed potatoes and some pickings from ours :) It seemed that there was a steady flow of biz coming in for the sandwiches, so if I'm in the area again and on the hunt for a freshly-carved meat sandwich, I now have a new spot to add to the mix. Overall pretty solid meal ~ appreciate how this is one of the last remaining hofbrau's in our area, and their offerings..especially the variety for new parents needing a comforting meal with baby-approved fixins' too. Good helpings (enough leftovers for the next day), good pricing, good service and very efficient. Also, can't help but love the Orinda Theatre Square. If you have the time, take a little stroll. It looked like they were getting set up for St.Patrick's Day, and with the space they have, intrigued to know if there are any upcoming fun events including beer and corned beef? Also intrigued to know if I'm missing any Hofbrau's in the East Bay, or venturing outside of the EB, any worth noting? Let me know!

Yelp
I visited Europa Hofbrau for the first time for lunch today. All the food at Europa looks amazing so it was difficult to decide what to order. But I chose: Reuben Corned Beef: the menu says it's the best Reuben in the Eastbay. And I concur with that statement. The corned beef, saukerkraut, Russian dressing, and rye bread were in perfect portions. Corned Beef was moist and delicious. I could have eaten two of these. Special BBQ Ribs: these were solid quality. Bbq sauce was sweet and a little heavy on the sauce. Mashed potatoes and cabbage I ordered on the side were ok. The dining area is super large. Great for groups. Service is fast and efficient. Prices are moderate. Food is pretty good.

Yelp
This restaurant has a surprisingly large dining room. Large plate glass windows let in a lot of light and the high ceilings made the space feel even larger. There were plenty of tables and chairs inside, a separate room was available for parties and there were three tables outside, in front as well. The menu is on numerous signboards behind the service counter which runs along the south wall of the building. From plates to open face sandwiches, salads and drinks, everything was well-marked and positioned so you could see it. She wanted to come here because they advertised that they had the best Reuben Sandwich in the East Bay. She agreed that it was quite good. A decent amount of Corned Beef with Sauerkraut, Russian Dressing on Toasted Rye Bread. The sandwich was served with a side dish and she ordered a bowl of whole kernel corn. I don't believe that any pickles were offered. I got a Corned Beef Plate with Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Cabbage, Bread and Butter plus a side of Cooked Cabbage. I also added on a small bowl of Macaroni Salad. The Corned Beef was great, super flavorful and tender, just the right amount of fat. The Mash & Gravy were adequate but nothing special. The Cabbage tasted like it had been cooked in the same liquid as the Corn Beef, the way it should be cooked. The Macaroni Salad was not a goopy mayonnaise based one but had a nice, sweet pickle relish flavor. Service was efficient and friendly. The restrooms were clean. They obviously take good care of their business.

Yelp
Still the old school good. Hot braus are rare so definitely a throwback both nostalgic and yummy. When you want a solid pastrami or corned beef sandwich check them out
google avatar

Daly D.

Yelp
If you want to eat slop serves by very a unhappy, annoyed and disoriented staff, this place is for you. Both my husband and I had their " Voted Best Pastrami" sandwich" and while the pastrami itself was good, the dressing was disgusting. The bread was too soft and not properly toasted. It became a glob of soaked dressing. I also had a salad and that was awful as well. When I got home, my stomach was upset and I would up very sick in the bathroom. My husband was fine, so I suspect it was the salad. The reality is it didn't seem like the most sanitary place. I hate giving bad reviews to a small owned business but they need to do better, particularly given the prices they charge for a sandwich.

Yelp
MEATY, CHEESY, & JUICY!! Europa Hofbrau Deli & Pub in Orinda, ca is a must!! Family run, freshly made home style plates & sandwiches carved right in front of you! First thing I noticed was how beautiful and clean their large dining room is! Second was how wonderful the service was, helping us with our orders and educating us on their menu and specials! Third, THE REUBEN, you have to try the Reuben!! That first bite will blow your mind and you'll never forget it! I keep coming back for that meaty, cheesy, juicy Reuben!! Thank you Europa!
google avatar

May M.

Yelp
My husband is a HUGE fan of comfort food, particularly hot open faced turkey sandwiches. When he found out about Europa we had to try it. Europa Hofbrau Deli & Pub is located less than a block away from Orinda Theatre, the area is very charming. Europa is a large old fashioned space that can accommodate large groups and is a cafeteria style concept. There are different roasted meat options to choose from that are roasted daily with choice of carved dinners, hot open faced sandwiches, as well as carved and deli sandwiches and daily specials. My husband ordered the hot open faced turkey sandwich and I got the Reuben sandwich. I'm not sure if it was bc it was close to the end of the day, but all the roasted meats looked dried out and sad. The food was underwhelming, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant. My sandwich was decent enough, definitely not the "Best Reuben Sandwich in the entire East Bay". Would come back if my husband REALLY wants to eat here again, otherwise, I'd pass.
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
I had roast beef and mashed potatoes with gravy, with braised cabbage on the side. The vibe is very old school and the prices let you know you're definitely in Orinda. My roast beef was not a high quality cut. A bit tough. Large portions though!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Ok I don't understand. I went again today to give it a try. Corn beef sandwich was made good accept this time, sour dough bread was stale. I mean wtf is wrong with you guys. $16 bucks for a Sammy and the bread you gave me is stale. I am done with this place. I gave you another chance and it's just blah.
google avatar

Larry M.

Yelp
Great selection, large portions, old school Hof Brau. Been years since I've been here, exactly as it was
google avatar

Tanya M.

Yelp
Our friends took us here on the way from union city. It had been years since hubby and I had been here and a pleasant surprise to be able to enjoy some good food with good friends. I ordered the st paddy's day special which had Irish style cabbage, carrots, potatoes and corned beef and hubby got the Reuben sandwich with potato salad. I loved my meal and hubby did too. So glad this place is still around and plan on coming back soon.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch at Europa Hofbrau in Orinda and had a great experience. The place has an old-school, cozy vibe with plenty of seating and a chill atmosphere. I ordered the corned beef with cabbage and mashed potatoes -- super comforting, flavorful, and just what I was craving. Big portions and really tender meat. Service was quick and friendly, and the space is clean and inviting. I'll definitely be coming back. This spot feels like a local classic that's still going strong.

Scott C.

Yelp
The turkey is really good. But you can never tell how much you're going to get when you order a plate. Sometimes you get a small amount sometimes you get a acceptable amount same with the beef. The staff is really unfriendly.

Larry V.

Yelp
I got sucked into this place with it's brag of' 'voted best Reuben sandwich in the Bay Area.' the Reuben I ate was far from best. More like subpar. The sandwich wasn't even grilled, but built on toast and microwaved. The result was as expected, a soggy limp sandwich not resembling a proper Reuben, but a sorry fast food imitation. Added to poor presentation and poor service, I won't be back.
google avatar

Nina U.

Yelp
I have been searching for a new hofbrau style restaurant ever since Brennan's in Berkeley closed. I normally don't do bad reviews but I had to leave one to remind myself NOT to order from here. The stuffing/dressing is a horrible wet, mushy, (undercooked?) mess. The gravy is so salty I wondered if I needed to go to the ER. Harry's in San Leandro is way better and worth the drive.

Lyle B.

Yelp
It has been a number of years since I had been there. Nothing has changed. My wife had a ham sandwich with more than ample meat, which was very good. I had my normal open faced turkey sandwich with dark meat, dressing, corn, and gravy. The dark meat was juicy and tender. However, the dressing was nothing more than soggy wet bread. I would not have called it dressing, in fact in should not have been called dressing. The gravy was flavorful, but, so salty that it burned my tongue. I will not go back for a turkey sandwich.
google avatar

Lina F.

Yelp
Food is usually good, but please for the love of god wear gloves when touching the food! There was a bigger guy behind the counter putting cheese on top of items under the lamps breaking it with his hands and separating the slices with his hands and putting the cheese on top of the dishes with his hands!!! Bare hands!!! Just know your food was touched all of it!

Pat W.

Yelp
Rueben was delicious. Great service. Will definitely be back with friends. Brought back great memories
google avatar

James L.

Yelp
I've been craving a pastrami sandwich and tried one here. I was nervous when I saw the slab of tough looking pastrami the cook grabbed. He started slicing the tough parts away revealing nicely cooked pastrami beneath. He made a pile of the tough, crusty outsides that had obviously been exposed to air for some time. He added a couple nice slices on the same pile - and then made my sandwich with the dried out and good meat combined ! What the heck, I thought he was going to throw away the dry meat. Hey, the portion was big so my dog was happy. Add some not-so-tasty potato salad and $25 later I'm feeding my dog. Sad. I really wanted to like this place and expected so much more. It's always busy. The 3.5 star overall rating is pretty accurate but it's hard to like a $25 sandwich, potato salad and coke that wasn't good. If it's good, that's an ok price. This wasn't the case.
google avatar

Gregory F.

Yelp
Had no idea this place existed. Only found it because the kid wanted a hotdog. Parked in front of Europa and negotiated that we try it instead. THE REUBEN IS PHENOMENAL. Katz and Wexler's in LA have been my gold standard west coast Rueben's since leaving NYC. This is just as good, and - more importantly - miles better than anything I've had in the Bay Area. GIT SOME.
google avatar

Suzanne W.

Yelp
New been to a Hofbrau before so omg! After seeing a YouTube video of this place was had to try it. My husband was working near by in Orinda so decided to got pick you food for our dinner. He said they were super nice and very friendly! The service was amazing! He got the beef sandwich and he got me the Ruben, and I have to say hands down it's the best Ruben I've ever had! He hasn't eaten his yet but I'm very sure it's going to be amazing!

Steed C.

Yelp
I had the open-faced roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and a side of cole slaw. I'm going back soon for the reuben sandwich.
google avatar

Tanya T.

Yelp
It's been years since I visited arriving minutes before closing. We got in and I was worried they wouldn't be so friendly or accommodating since we arrived shortly before closing. To our delight, the team there was so kind, patient, professional, and quick in their handling of our sandwiches and plate orders. I highly recommend!

Arthur N.

Yelp
This place sells decent food. You can get burgers to sandwiches to hot dinner plates. This is basically the east bay version of a san franciscos famous Tommy's joint. Plenty of space to dine even when there are huge crowds

Andrew G.

Yelp
terrible food. absolute slop. i ordered some trueky and a lot sausages and it was absolute atrocious
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
Great spot for us Keto jerks! Lol. Staff is always super friendly. Healthy portions. Had the roast beef, cabbage and green beans. All delish! And loved the cabbage! For sure getting again.

David D.

Yelp
The food was pretty good, but it felt like the employees didn't want us to be there. Could've used a little more spice. If you like half broth, then you know what you're getting. It's nice inside also. It was a little pricey, but you are in Orinda.
google avatar

Dana T.

Yelp
Dreadful food. I was fooled by Europa in the name, and expected more choices, but it's just a traditional German hofbrau. Done badly, as is the tradition. I got the turkey plate. It was expensive enough to be good. Mashed potatoes and piercingly sage soggy "stuffing" topped with sliced turkey. Hopefully bright colored green beans that had metallic "can flavor." Fortunately I'd skipped the gravy. All I could stand to eat was the turkey, and threw away all the rest. The unpleasant flavors were so pervasive I rushed home to brush my teeth. The atmosphere was equally uncharming, bare bones desolate cafeteria.
google avatar

Inverleith F.

Yelp
It's St. Paddy's day and no one is home to make me corned beef and cabbage. Boohoo! Where to go? A hof brau! Well, what do you know, here in Orinda is Europa and they were bustling with folks eager for a traditional Irish meal. They had a set meal which consists of corned beef, boiled potatoes, sliced carrots, cabbage and a whole wheat roll for under $23. It's not cheap but nothing is these days. To expedite the orders, they had an express cash only line in the back. I went there but wanted more fatty pieces so headed into the line. Not a bad wait and while I wanted more fatty, it's fine. I asked for no potatoes and the guys asked if I wanted more cabbage. Nice to offer this. However, I didn't get the carrots. It's okay as they looked pretty cooked since they were sliced very thin. I really like the whole wheat roll. Not sure where they come from. Very fresh. The order size is respectable and it tastes fine. Not tough at all. The guy in front of me got a sandwich which looked pretty light on the meat. I've been here before for the Reuben and it's skimpy. However, when I can, I will support the local businesses. The hof brau is a dying breed so let's keep Europa going.

Melissa J.

Yelp
An excellent 28 y/o old school pub/hof brau that roasts their turkey, roast beef and pastrami daily. several daily specials, lots to choose from. My new fav spot.
google avatar

Damon J.

Yelp
I have to say that this place is a must for excellent quality food! They have much to choose from and everything is delicious. Their Ruben sandwiches are very famous and for a good reason. The place is very good sized and has an open feeling to it. I enjoy bringing the ones I love here.
google avatar

Christina D.

Yelp
I had a Turkey dinner delivered. I asked for extra dressing and gravy. The gravy and the dressing tasted like it's been out for several weeks and had the most horrible aftertaste. The turkey was old and dry. The corn was dry and tasteless. I do not recommend this place.

Gena C.

Yelp
We have been longtime customers for years. Moved out of the area and drove back for lunch today. Food was good, staff was friendly except for owner at cashier. Paid my bill and when tip came up, I chose not to tip. The owner turned and said something under his breath and walked away. Not even a thank you for your business. There was no service to my table here. You go through a food line. Tipping has gotten way out of line. Never was asked to tip in years past. We won't be missed and we will never go back.
google avatar

Courtney A.

Yelp
I am actually pleasantly surprised. Some of the reasons why I knocked them down one star are east fixes, but there are a bunch of little things that contributed to being only 4 stars and not 5 I ordered the Ruben, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. All were pretty good. I am actually surprised. I went in and was hesitant to order so I got the "best voted item in the Bay Area" The Ruben was good but the bread was soggy. They put way too much sauce on the bread and it didn't last my short drive home. The green beans were good but they are canned which kinda sucks. The mashed potatoes and gravy are SO good but the guy was irritated when I asked for two scoops of gravy instead of one. I got two scoops of mashed potatoes.... Why not two scoops of gravy? Lastly, the place was SO SO SO hot. I wish they would have run the air conditioner. I do understand why they probably don't... electricity is expensive and it's peak PGE hours right now. It just deterred me from eating there which automatically reduces the quality of the food because I'm not eating it as it's being served. I do appreciate them working in that heat though. It can't be easy. I will come back and try this place again.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
Bright, open and airy! And SPOTLESS! Such a great discovery. And it was right under our noses the whole time. It's definitely worth the short trip down 680 to get here. Stuffed cabbage, Greek salad, pastrami, burgers real mashed potatoes and turkey carved right off the bone. I love this place and you will too.
google avatar

Yelp
I was really hopeful. When I first walked into this place, I was happy with the ambience and how clean and organized it was. Apparently they're known for their Reuben sandwiches and the best in the bay area so I ordered one. The man who served me was brash and unwelcoming. There was no how are you today or any small chitchat. It was what can I get you...very abruptly! I ordered the Rebin and it was done quickly. It was hot but not as toasted as I requested and they didn't have any dark rye only light rye bread. I can say it was OK, but it doesn't compare to Saul's Reuben sandwiches in Berkeley. They are a little more pricey, but they are very tasty and the staff is also very welcoming. So if you want have really good Ruben, go to Sauls not here.

Yelp
We finally came to check out this hoffbrau! It's tucked in a small town Orinda, who would have known that this place is truly a local gem! The style is simple, typia hoffbrau, cafeteria like. You walk in, get a tray and walk down the counter to order whatever you'd like that they have to offer. They have the typical carvery menu like roast beef, pastrami, turkey, corned beef, turkey legs, turkey wings, ham..yumm yummm. They also serve sandwiches and burgers. I opted for the roast beef carvery plate. It came with 2 sides and I opted for cabbage and mashed potatoes with gravy. The roast beef ca.e with au jus (i asked them to separate it and they gave me a small bowl). Hubby opted for turkey plate with mashed potatoes and gravy and sweet corns. Each plate came with a piece of sourdough and butter. With 1 fountain drink, our total came to around $43 with tax and tips. The portion was alright, just right for us. Now the food..wow oh wow! I have to say that it was the most flavorful hoffbrau food I've ever had. I was very very very impressed. The gravy and the au just...even the cabbage were all had seasonings..tasty flavors! The roast beef was medium-medium rare, not overcooked! The pastrami was perfectly seasoned, not just the outside but also the inside! I would certainly come again and again and again..certainly a great find! They were busy during lunch time (line started forming at noon) but the line moved quickly and their dining area was pretty spacious so there were plenty of seats. There were lots of takeout orders too.

Yelp
Sometimes I have a hankering for some cabbage roles and sauerkraut and this is the spot. The price point is just right and I love the cafeteria vibe. It reminds me of simpler times. The staff were friendly and gave great recommendations. I'll be back.
