Nice store, pretty good variety, horrible prices, and they nickel and dime you.
I’ve been here about 30 times, but not lately bc I moved away from the store, but have recently relocated by it. So I went in yesterday I found some things that I normally get, but they were marked up about 30% over Binny’s prices. I’m like, whatever, locally owned, I’ll pay it.
I’m waiting for someone to come up to check me out, and when they do, she politely asks if I would like a bag. As a Chicagoan, we all know that means they’re going to charge us the $0.07 for the bag. On this day, I’m not hating chicago that much, so I’ll pay the $0.07 tax. It’s whatever.
But she rings it up, and they tack on THEIR OWN bag fee of $0.25. Now, when I saw that, I got pretty annoyed. Like, really annoyed. But.. whatever, it’s locally owned. Obviously, 25 cents isn’t much, it just really puts a horrible taste in your mouth that they really hate their customers.
Okay, whatever. I’ll get over myself. Then she asks “Cash or credit” and I automatically say credit. And then she starts keying away at some things. With this new sour taste, I asked “Wait, is there an additional credit card fee?” She says “yeah, THEY charge you an additional 2.47%” while she’s tapping away doing some nifty math to charge me more (really didnt seem like it was Total x 1.0247%). You would think that a place that jacks up their prices so high, that they would have been computing their transaction fees into their pricing model. I guess not? IDK, I didn’t see a sign anywhere that indicated as such. I decided at that point that I’m done, and that I’m never coming back to this place:
1. Way overpriced products
2. They charge their own bag fee??????
3. You pay additional for credit card fees
I bought a set of things from Binny’s for $23.47. The exact same thing here was coming out to $35.45(I think?) and she hadn’t even added on the credit card fee yet. This place is exactly why mom and pop shops are dying. Emblematic.
